Open Outlook attachments as ZIP files

Although attachments can be .pptx or .doc (mainly), they sometimes open or save in a .zip file.  Then I have to go where it is saved and open it with [word, powerpoint]

No matter what setting I have to change to stop this?

Thanks in advance for any help,

Hi jbentonmail,

(1) since when are you facing this problem?

(2) is this problem limited only to Outlook attachments?

Method 1: Run the fixit available in the link below and check if that makes a difference

Difficulty of broken desktop shortcuts and common system maintenance tasks

Note:
Fixit would attempt to recover bad sectors on the hard disk, in the course of this process there are chances of data loss from that particular area.

Method 2: Run the fixit available in the article below that addresses the issue similar-Worth to try

When you run an .exe on a Windows Vista-based or Windows 7 computer file, the file may start another program

Important This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. If attachments don't open automatically, create an association.

    1. download and save the attachment to the office.
    2. right click on the saved file.
    3. Select: Open with on the shortcut menu.
    4. click on: choose [default] program.
    5 select: Word (Viewer)
    6. check: always use the selected program to open this type of file.
    7. click on OK.

This should allow you to open these attachments directly from email address now.

  • I can't open a zip file because when he saves, he is not a same folder open or "rip"! What is going on?

I am trying to download fonts on my new laptop, using www.dafont.com. I used this source to download fonts to countless times on my previous laptop. I have windows 7 and now I also have WinZip and whenever I download a font zip file, it asks me if I want to open or save the zip file, as usual and no matter what I choose, the saved file icon is a white sheet (not a zip file you can open) and he says it's a ' zip '. When I click on it, I get the pop up notice that says "Application not found". I tried several fonts from different suppliers, so I know that this is not a defective or damaged zip file. Help, please!

Alright.  Normally, at this point, the best thing I could suggest would be to make a new profile on the PC, that re-creates all the association.  It takes about 3 minutes to do and does not hurt your files or programs installed.

However, if you are ready to try another tool called 'Types', you may be able to manually fix the file type where the registry import is a failure.  You can get it hereand once installed you can change the .zip association and make you what it "opens with" this command:

    C:\Windows\Explorer.exe /idlist,%I,%L

  • Extract the zip file

Today, I downloaded a zipped file and the "extract all" option is missing?  When I double click, it doesn't open the program the zipped file is supposed to play in (i.e - iTunes, Windows Media Center), but nothing does not appear or play?   What should I do?

    Hi LadyJ03,

Make sure that the downloaded file is not corrupted.

Important The method below mentioned steps show you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. You can perform the steps described below and check if it works.

Restore and return the file Association in Windows Vista if Original

    1. click on Start and then type regedit in the start search and press ENTER.

    2. navigate to the following registry branch:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\ [ext]

Replace the [exe] with the real extension of the file you want to restore the file type association to return to the default Windows Vista original. If you are not sure, simply browse through all the Sub-touche under FileExts.

    3. delete the subkey named UserChoice.

    4. exit the registry editor.

  • Microsoft Outlook Express cannot open attachments in the file, that they were created

When I try to open an attachment in my email address, the program goes directly to Microsoft Word instead of going to this type of program, the attachment was created for example Adobe.  It started just do this in the last 2 weeks. What should I do to get the Outlook Express to open attachments in the file of type, they are created

You will have to do for various types of files. I use PDF files for an example.

    Create a file association.

    1. download and save the attachment to the office.
    2. right click on the saved file.
    3. Select: Open with on the shortcut menu.
    4. click on: choose [default] program.
    5. Select: Adobe Reader.
    6. check: always use the selected program to open this type of file.
    7. click on OK.

This should allow you to open these attachments directly from email address now.

  • How can I get Outlook 2007 to read attachments and .eml files?

I'm a web developer, working from home.  Many of my clients tell me through programs such as Yahoo Messenger and Skype conversation.  Often, they send messages to an end-user for me on yahoo or Skype which are .eml files.  These files describe bugs or other mistakes which experienced end users.

I don't understand why I can't read the 'eml' files in Outlook 2007.  Currently, windows 2007 wants to use windows live mail to open these files.

Is there an add-on third party who will give this feature in Outlook 2007?

I solved the problem for users of 64-bit Windows 7 and Vista 64-bit users

    (1) Open regedit.exe (the registry editor)
    2) access HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Microsoft Internet Mail Message WLMail\shell\open\command
    (3) change "C:\Program Files (x 86) \Windows Live\Mail\wlmail.exe" /eml:%1 to "C:\Program Files (x 86)" \Microsoft Office\Office12\OUTLOOK. "» EXE' /eml '%1' (don't forget the quotes!)
    (4) restart your computer

In this way, windows thinks that "Windows Live Mail" is still the default program to open .eml files.  However, we have changed the registry so that instead of open Windows Live Mail, we open OUTLOOK. EXE.  What I mean is that if you open Control Panel, click default programs associated with Windows Live Mail .eml files, we have decked out the registry so that it will open opportunities-even if Windows has always said that it is associated with Windows Live.  Confusing, I know.

The best analogy are these old commercials where "we secretly changed detergent Lisa's favorite new all temperature Cheer!  In this case we secretly changed Windows Live Mail with Outlook when it comes to open .eml attachments.

In any case, this tip worked for me.  I can open the .eml simply files by double-clicking them.  You can always change things if you decide to upgrade to Windows Live.

  • Can't do a right click on or open zip files. How can I fix it?

I have an annoying problem where explore seems simply do not recognize the zip files.

I can't double click on it, I can't right click on them, I can't support on entering them. By clicking on the 'OPEN' button in the top toolbar still works, however.
I tried to install and uninstall 7zip and change the default to opening program, but nothing seems to solve this problem. Anyone know how I can fix this problem?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi MonkeyMagics,

Here is a zip file (you need to use your workaround to open it).  Inside is a registry file that contains the configuration for default ZIP.  Simply run the registry file to import it in your registry.  It should work instantly, but a reboot may be required.
  • Open zip files attached to my PDF

    Hello

in our company we are archiving old Lotus Notes mail - in databases with Acrobat Standard XI in PDF format that works very well. All attachments of mail will then find in the created PDF file.

However, we only are able to open attachments .zip from the file PDF. Other accessories such as .docx or .xlsx are accessible without problem.

I already read this has something to do with the philosophy of Adobes security which prohibits potential dangerous file types. But if I am the creator of the PDF including attachments then I want to and need to open my attachments.

So my question is: are there workarounds or official means to get access to my zip attachments? Such as changing the settings during the creation or extraction of attachments using other PDF software?

    Kind regards

    Florian

Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do in the PDF file that you create. This is a security feature that should be set on the installation of drive of recipients.

  • Problems with the opening of attachments when the user has restristed privilege to run executable code from Program Files and Windows folders.

I'm trying to prevent users from running potentially dangerous files. According to the Windows policies so I put. Users can run any application Program Files, files (x 86), windows, and folder to all users of the program office. Users have no permission to write anything in this files. When the user double clicks for example document.doc on his desk - document opens fine with MS Word. But when the user tries to open this document in attachment directly (by selecting open with MS Word, instead of the economy) - he sees an error - "this action is limited by local politics. Ask your system administrator. "(not exact text).

So I want, users able to open attachments from Thunderbird automatically, but not able to run any application or link, except Program Files, Program Files (x86), Windows and all users' desktop folder. How can I get this result?

    Thanks in advance.
    Calvo is serious.

PS Sorry for my bad English. It is not my mother tongue.

    Thanks for responding.
I discovered what was going on.
This strange "bug" affects multiple computers with Windows 7 Ultimate in my case.
When you create a SRP (software restriction policies) it creates two rules by default to run programs: windows folder and the Program Files folder. I manually add "C:\Program Files (x 86)" in places without restriction. BUT Windows and Program Files folder to default rules directly, but through registry keys. And this part seems difficult. You CAN run the executable files of Program Files. You CAN run the Program Files (x 86) executables. But if Thunderbird or Firefox try to run MS Word or excel or editor for.doc or *.odt opening or another file - downloaded files running programs blocked by SRP.
In order to fix this, simply replace the rules for indirect paths like % HKLM/software/microsoft/windows... etc % with direct, for example "C:/Windows" and "C:/Program Files /". After that, everything works fine. Attachments and downloaded files automatically opens without a problem.
