  The solution was to uninstall the program "Toshiba Recovery Media Creator' and system settings/Programm features.

  I have bould last year and it worked well on my old pc with XP
  Now, I have a new computer with Vista on it and I want to connect to my external hard drive, but it gives no reaction on my pc.
  The password screen does not appear, I tried different think and Regen, I installed but I can't make it work

  I have the same problem. But I've found a workaround.
  -Connect your HDD to PC VISTA
  -Select the CD drive with your browser (password)
  -Run ONSPCLCK.exe
  -Select 'Options '.
  -Select "Disable security password"
  -Enter your current password
  -Unplug the HARD drive
  -Connect the HARD drive

  now, it will work, but without any protection of password :(

• Drive external DRIVE does not appear on my PC

  I have the old HDD on my PC that I put in an envelope so that I can get my old files and data of it.  It appears nowhere on my PC (and I tried all 6 USB port) but will show and work very well on my small 80 GB Dell Latitude D630.  The PC didn't it in Explorer, Device Management, disk management, or anywhere else that I can think to look for him.

  OK so my sister has been using my computer last night, when it was made using it she just closed it witch automatically put in mode 'sleep' and gave it back to me. later that night I opened this herd all the normal sounds of the laptop but the backlight does not turn. the screen looks completely black, except that I see a darkness where the hp logo lights across the screen in the lower right corner. in fact when I use the scanner of thumb to activate windows I can see the date and time, dimly lit in this corner and can move the mouse on and see. I connected my laptop to my TV via hdmi and it works absolutely fine, which is how I'M writing this issue right now. I tried to update the drivers for my graphics card, but that did nothing.   I have installed Windows 10 Technical Preview version 10049 and connected my drive from 750 GB Hitachi touro in USB 3.0 and it WORKS!

  I can't believe that after several years of frustration with this device with Windows 8.1 incompatibility it finally works great in Windows 10! Please check if you also have Windows 10 TP if your Hitachi drive works as well

  The Toshiba drive is more steady and is almost impossible to work with now. I checked with Device Manager that says the drive is working correctly.

  I've uninstalled and reinstalled the driver, cleaned and Defrag the disk (when I was able to access) but it works still very badly now!

  What else can I do to find out what is the problem with this Toshiba drive and return it works reliably?

  Somehow I'm the drive working again, I went in 'tools' and all reset setting 'default '. Now the drive works, but I transferred some data on the hard disk, just in case. Wish me luck on this...

  For me it s case. You have updated firmware and this kind of DVD is not listed in the list of firmware. As Stefan has suggested, try a different brand of DVD.
