OpenManage for VMWare ESXi has no possibility of tasks of virtual disk

OMSA v 7.1 and 7.2 for Windows (and earlier versions) allow the user to perform many tasks on virtual disks, including reconfiguring - expand a RAID array with a new drive.

This is not true for managing open for VMWare ESXi - although you can monitor the status of the RAID and disks with the browser of the OMSA interface type, you cannot perform tasks - can not even make a high beam Flash.

It is a huge problem, because the PERC controllers (H700 and H800, for example) don't allow you to develop virtual using hard drives not Dell disks when you try this during startup in the bios.  (These controllers only allows you to create new virtual disks using drives not Dell).

This test was conducted using the latest firmware (12.10.4 - 0001 A10) and drivers for the H700 and H800 and multi-server r610 ESXi 5.1.

Other people with VMWare have been affected by the present?  The only solution is to have two player networks connected to the computer, and create a simple Windows with OMSA, boot in Windows Server to expand the table using OMSA for Windows.

I would be interested in the comments of others, including those of Dell.  We spent hours on the phone with Dell; This seems to be the only solution.  (Yes, Dell released a firmware version last year that has ceased blocking non Dell readers, but it only works for the creation of a new virtual disk, do not expanding one existing).

Yes.  It came through a discussion in the Dell | Servers | Discussion of the RAID community.

en.Community.Dell.com/.../20263442.aspx

There is a CD bootable linux called OMSA Live that you download from PowerEdge (linux OS) systems management.

This OMSA PERC H700 and H800 control and allows you to do everything.  When you reconfigure the RAID and the PERC card starts the reconstruction, although it seems risky, you can restart under VMware and the reconstruction of the RAID continues on.  And you can analyze with OMSA for VMware.

You can find all downloads for VMwre to https://my.vmware.com/web/vmware/downloads. What you might want to look for are the links "Download trial" to "VMware Workstation" and "VMware vSphere. BTW. is there a reason you ask for older versions?

  • Driver RAID for Vmware ESXi 5.1 on Dell R420.

My project is to install Vmware ESXi 5.1 on a Dell R420 with Raid1 configuration. The question I have after configuring raid1 in raid utility is created using the, I launch the installation of Vmware ESXi 5.1. What is ESXi 5.1 sees not the raid1 partition but rather see two disks as are they worn can't in raid1 configurations.

I need to have this in raid1 config, can any who share an idea about my problem please or point me in the right direction.

I did some research but nothing seems to help resolve this issue.

    Thank you

    Sheriff.

    Sorry for my previous response:

DELL-Daniel My - when I boot in the BIOS of the controller, I see the raid in a raid1 configuration.

Mgr dev you are right, I did research more when you all answered. I see the PERC S110 pilot was a software raid controller and thus the vmware esxi wouldn't work in a raid configuration 1 (software raid).

  • Hyper-v 2008 R2 for Vmware ESXI 5.5 problem

    Hello world

We are migrating to Vmware ESXI with HP 3PAR storage we have some important servers as vms on Microsoft Hyperv 2008 R2, I downloaded and installed the VMware vCenter Converter Standalone Client on the host Microsoft hyper-v connected to the localmachine as administrator and also to define the credentials of esxi distance everything works fine until it blocks 33% retried the process several times but without success , I collected the log, if I understand correctly this is something related to timeout or something maybe someone clears me on the issue, thanks a lot

also a question should I try to install the stand-alone converter on each virtual machine, hyper v or should I install on the computer host and make the conversion?

is it possible to make the conversion without turning off the virtual machines?

    Thanks in advance

You do not need to install the converter on each machine, only the converter agent, which is installed automatically when it is not found on the destination computer.

  • VMware ESXi 4.1.0 and snapshot problem - no disk space

    Hi all

We now have a big problem with our free space on the disk. We are using VMware vSphere (vSphere Client ver 4.1.0 and VMware ESXi ver 4.1.0):

Our vm has 2 HDD (500 GB, 1 TB). Now we have only 20 GB of free disk 1 and several snapshot files. To remove the snapshot, we need more than 20 GB of free space (corect?). What we need to do more free space? We can move snapshot files from the first disk to the second disk?

    vmware_1.png

    snapshot.png

    Thanks for any help

    concerning

    Dragan

First of all, you can redirect your new snapshot on another store/disk as explained in this article "http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1002929".

Secondo, you can delete snapshot older and smaller but not all together as explained in this article by Duncan Epping "http://www.yellow-bricks.com/2008/01/07/delete-all-snapshots/."

  • BUG: Breaks VMware Fusion when there is free space on the host < 1.9 GB... result = > 1,9 GB never use for anything! (note: I do not use a virtual disk!)

    Hello

first some info on my system:

    -

    MacBook Pro

Processor: Core 2 Duo 2.2 GHz

    RAM: 4 GB

    HARD drive: 112 Go - 2 partitions (80 GB Mac OS x 10.5.6 32GB, Windows XP)

    ---

VMware Fusion version: 2.0.4 (other affected versions 2.0.3/2.0.2/2.0.1/2.0)

Allocated to the virtual machine RAM: 1.5 GB

Under Windows XP in VMware (boot_camp) partition separated - NO VIRTUAL DRIVE! -separate the NTFS partition.

    -

    Now the bug/problem:

Every time that free up disk space on the host partition (MacOsX) becomes less than 1.9 GB the VMware Fusion makes a break with this runtime message:

    -

VMware Fusion has suspended this virtual machine because the disk on which the virtual machine is stored is almost full.

To continue, free at least 1.9 GB of disk space.

    -

Please prove me wrong, but makes no sense to me, because the result is that these 1.9 GB is never used (or VMware) :-(

In advance, VMware Fusion allocates approximately 1.9 GB whenever the virtual machine is started then in my opinion this runtime check is redundant and the audit should run only before you start the virtual machine.

Anyone know how to move this bug to developers or solve the problem?

It's very annoying not being able to use almost 2 GB of disk space :-(

Thanks for all the relevant answers :-)

This is not a Bug! and this is the expected behavior to avoid crashing on OS X and or damage to the system as a result of unexpectedly running out of space.

If you are currently running disks tight on space you have a bigger problem then do what it's programmed to do my protect the stability of the system, because the user is not paying attention to the State of their own Fusion system.

Free and maintain a suitable available space as required by the programs that you use, and how they are used.

It's a result of error of the end user, because you shouldn't be filling your drives and should always maintain a reasonable percentage of free space.

  • VMware-mount has the ability to mount the dynamic disk?

I understand that there are 2 types of VMDK / disks: basic and dynamic. I would like to know if vmware-mount exe has the ability to set up dynamic disks? If so, how?

I tried to use the command vmware-mount as:

    " X: vmware-mount ' [storage1 | ] http://communities.VMware.com/community-document-picker.jspa?communityID= & subject = storage1 "[ ] VMDKName.vmdk ' /h:IPAddress u:UserName /s:Password i:DataCenterName/vm/VMName

but he did not succeed. It gives the following error, even if no one is using the VMDk nor is the machien powered:

"Unable to mount the virtual drive. The disk can be used by a virtual machine, may not have enough volumes or mounted under a different drive letter. If not, check that the file is a valid virtual disk file. ».

    Any help is appreciated.

VMware-mount current does not support dynamic disks.

  • Is it possible to reduce a virtual disk in Fusion 3.1.1

I brought on a Windows XP-based computer by using the tool of migration (Fusion 3.1.1) for the Mac, and it works fine.  However, the XP machine had a 750 GB with only 135 GB disc, and the process still led to a virtual disk of 698 GB (160 GB on the Mac file system).  My Mac has only a 500 GB drive, and although not currently a problem, I wouldn't let the virtual disk to grow without limit.  Thus, using the partition EASYUS tool, I have reduced the size of the XP partition in the virtual machine to 160 GB.  It resulted in my virtual drive, from about 160GB to 220 GB on the Mac.  I then ran the VMware tools on the XP VM to reduce the virtual disk, which went very well and found with the virtual disk, from 220 GB to 240GB on the Mac.  Not exactly what I expected. Are there tools that I can load it on the Mac for this clean?  Seems kind of silly to have a 240 GB housing file a 160 GB XP partition.  The virtual disk is configured as a single file (not the 2 GB strips) and is NOT previously affected.  Any advice?  FWIW, I've already shared to the top of the original machine, so I can't he re-partition, then re - import.

    Thank you

Starting with the stop of the vm.  .  .

    (1) settings: Add 2nd hard disk of smaller size

    (2) start the virtual machine

    (3) partition disk "nine."

    (4) copy the XP partition and mark it as bootable. Note that your partitioning program must be able to deal with the copy of the partition which is the current boot drive and EASEUS and others handle this very well.

    (5) judgment, does not suspend the

    (6) settings: Remove all the hard drives, but follow the files.

    (7) settings: Add once again this 2nd hard drive of the smallest size, noting that it is now the "Primary Master"

    (8) settings: Add once again the old boot drive, noting that it is now the primary slave

    (9) starting with the smaller hard disk again

It's not very different than the steps 'real hardware.

  • Problem installing OpenManage for VMWare vCenter integration

    Hello

I'm trying to use Dell OpenManage integration with VMWare vCenter and have downloaded and deployed with the OVF file.  The virtual machine appears to have installed correctly and I recorded 2 servers by IP address vCenter.  I can connect to the DellAdminPortal page and sign in.  In the Administration Console under vCenter record I see two vCenter server and I get the message

    Success
The vCenter 172.17.1.30 has been saved successfully. Open a new client vSphere for vCenter 172.17.1.30 so that the changes can be implemented.

However when I connect to my with the Web Client vSphere vCenter I don't see the icon Dell OpenManage integration under the Administration category.  What Miss me?  I also checked the Administration-> have management and I can only see vCenter Orchestrator, Log Browser and SSO Admin UI Plugin.  About Dell OpenManage.

I have connected several times and have even restarted the VM OpenManage, but nothing appears.  Any suggestions on what I can do to get this race?

    Thank you

    Scott

Our web customer support is for vSphere 5.5 only. Please make sure it's the version of vCenter that you run.

"If you are on 5.5 check if there are two plugin files in C:/ProgramData/VMware/vSphere Web Client/vc-packages/vsphere-client-serenity /" If there is, we have seen that removing the oldest file and restarting the blank Server fixed this issue.

  • Support for VMware ESXi 5 MPLS

I'm curious to know if the virtual switch can provide that some MPLS support so that can be unloaded from the VM? At present the virtual switch looks like a switch single layer2. Is it possible to get more features in Vsphere Enterprise?

He basis of VMware, but not rack mounting.  It works just like a virtual machine on each ESXi host.

You need to ask cisco for the licensing costs.

  • integration of OpenManage for vmware

Hi all, I'm new to this forum,.

I have a question, is it possible for the OMIVV to have 2 interfaces nic, for some of our blades, where the idrac is a VLAN different then the management VLAN.

I hope that it is possible

    Hello jfasioen,

OMIVV device is equipped with a NETWORK card interface and the functionality of the plug-in will be affected, if it is changed. This is why you cannot add another NIC interface.

However, OMIVV can access and manage the iDRAC in the other VLANS, provided the network in which the device is connected and the other network where your blade iDRAC is connected, has inter connectivity.

    Thank you

  • CSR 1000v for Vmware Esxi, cannot ping / output

    Hello

I just installed file eggs a 1000V CSR in my personal laboratory in an ESXi.

    I followed this link:

    http://www.fryguy.NET/2013/12/27/Cisco-csr1000v-for-Home-Labs/

I have a 1 Giga interface in the vlan by default with the VMXNET3 adapter type as suggested.

Whenever I turn on the CSR I have configure the interface and I unshut it. Negotiation is automatic (I tried to link hard but without success).

Problem is that since my pc I can not ping the CSR giga1 interface and vice versa. But on both sides, I see the arp of the interface.

I tried to change the type of adapter on vmware (VMXNET2 or E1000) but without any help...

If I turn on a debian or Windows VM on the same network card on the same vlan I can ping or reach it.

I tried to debug the ip packets, but nothing shows up some questions.

Config is a default one... there no ACL, not security features, nothing... just an ip address on the giga1 and the no command closed.

    What is there?

    Thanks in advance

    Hello

Can say you that it was really the problem.

  • Reference Dell Custom Image for Vmware ESXi 5.1

    Hello

where can I find the custom image Dell for ESXi 5.1.

I can only find the ISO Images for 5.0 (4.1). But none for 5.1. Unfortunately the original ISO Vmware image will not work because it does not find a NETWORK card in my Dell R420. Which seems to occur as long as the original image from Vmware does not include the card driver NETWORK Dell to the R420.

I saw that today there is a download section at support.Dell.com for ESXi 5.1 with about 36 files to download. But no ISO Image for ESXi 5.1 as it is 5.0 and before.

Hope someone can help or knows how Dell will bring the custom image.

  • How to compare premises, iSCSI and storage NFS for VMware ESXi 5 with IO Analyzer?

    Hello

I have 2 hosts ESXi 5.0 with a few virtual machines running. I would compare the IO throughput for my local storage, iSCSI and NFS vmware storage store. Can someone point me to the right direction? I read the documents and tutorials, but I'm not sure how to compare tests from these 3 options.

I have a need to compare the following storage options.

Local disk on the ESX host

    iSCSI on QNAP NAS device

    iSCSI on EMC e 3100

    NFS on QNAP NAS device

    NFS on EMC e 3100

IOmeter seems to be good tool based on reading, but still not clear where to make changes to pass tests of storage to another.

    Thanks in advance,

    Sam

If you use IO monitor, then you must simply vmotion the VMS to the data store for the device you want to test, and then run the test (and Records results).  Can vmotion for the following data store and repeat.
