Operating system, re - install

Vista professional Lenovo N500.  Can restore is no longer exteranl hard drive.  Microsoft is sending me a Bus Vista install DVD to replace the operating system.  When I re - install the Op Sysem I'll lose custody of Lenovo functions?  The internal dirve will be as it comes out of the box and I have to start again with all my settings?  Thanks for any information, ideas and suggestions... You cannot restore of backup/recovery to the Start button?

No recovery disk created?

When you install Vista from scratch, you have provided NOTHING of the Lenovo

programs and drivers. You must download and install any that you

need or want to Lenovo support: LINK

Just put the model number in the box quick path on the right side.

Yes, you will have to start with a generic installation of Vista, which, in

in many ways is better, as you can customize to fit your tastes.

It takes just more research or experience to know which drivers and programs

you really need.

  • initiate an operating system already installed

I think I remember VMware had a feature to boot an OS that was already installed. I think it was the 'raw' mode I have an operating system already installed on another partition, can I somehow it load with workstation?

Can I give 10 euros and you stop it here?

grave: the man - you have only a single drive - with a shared boot partition...

That adds a lot of extra trouble than that... . If you want to configure this AND survive this scenario without a disaster in the first 2 weeks, you should eat lots of things that you can not be used to? -do not know... no offense intended...

just one example: you will need to create a boot as a virtual disk from scratch partition and must adapt it so it starts the existing, 2008.

you will need to find a way to effectively prevent Windows 7 mounting F: at startup

you need to configure the way 2008 so that it starts in both scenarios - it's average real system functionality will suffer - and inside the virtual machine, it will not run smooth as a newly created virtual machine

may I suggest you now first of all create a new VM 2008 and run it for a while.

This virtual machine will run better then what you can get using the average dualboot.

Then reconsider if it's worth all the hardwork you will have to do to get something that does not work as well as own virtual machine.

Don't know if you are aware of the limitations of a virtual machine in dualboot fashion?

the sound card you have now in the original 2008 will not work

the video card, you have now in the original 2008 will not work.

the original network adapters will not work

3D video support does not work

integrated card readers or PCI-card does not work

    and so on...

to summarize: you have selected a really really advanced scenario, but it is possible

    I have a similar system here: 2003, win7 and 2008 on a disc.

I do not use dualboot here because the results really are not worth the pain of setting this up correctly.

Anyway - its your decision - but please please just install a VM 2008 normal now - just to know what you can expect.

    Keep in mind:

If you have installed a brand new virtual 2008 VM it will go faster and more stable then the original 2008 used as a machine virtual

If you then still plan to try it - get Skype - we have a long way

  • Install Windows on SMU-8133 (with time real operating system already installed)

    Hi all

I have an SMU-8133 NI with a real-time operating system (OR Real - Time PharLap 13.1). Now I want to install Windows on it and make it dual-boot (I want to keep the original real time operating system). So my question is how do I install Windows without erasing the current real time operating system?

I tried to just install Win7 (starting from USB) but it says "Windows cannot be installed on disk 0 Partition 1" because she needs NTFS (what we have is the FAT I think). If Win7 is unavailable, Windows XP is also correct, but I still prefer Win7.

    Thank you!

As a general rule, Windows don't play well with other operating systems installed on a drive, there will be some efforts to preserve the existing installation of RT OS if it is a requirement.  The simplest approach would be to wipe the entire disk, installing Windows and then reinstall LabVIEW RT.

If you can start from scratch, you must first make sure that the partitioning is correct.  Since you did not purchase this as a Windows / controller dual boot RT initially, you do not have Windows installation media OR, correctly configure the partitions from disk for you.  You will need to do this manually during the installation of Windows.  The best approach is to create two partitions, one for the RT and a Windows.  RT the partition must be the first partition on the disk.  Install Windows on the second partition.  Once Windows is installed, convert the 1st partition to FAT32 using the built in Windows or a 3rd party partitioning tool utilities.  You should now have a system with Windows installed correctly and ready to be fitted to RT.

Change your SMU-8133 to boot RT using the BIOS Setup menu or hardware DIP switch.  It should boot to safemode RT.  From another host PC, find your target in MAX.

You can now put your target if you want to switch to the FAT32 file system the system of dependency files.  You can do this through MAX, or by using the utility RT USB key.  See herefor details on this step.

Warning: Before doing this, ensure a MAXIMUM target shows already the correct amount of disk space for partition 1, you created.  If the RT operating system can see a usable partition (FAT32 or dependency) it will set up only that partition by avoiding to touch the rest of the disc.  If the 1st partition is not used, the formatting process will claim rather all of the disk because no usable partition has been found, and you may lose your Windows installation.

After that, you can perform the installation of the RT of MAX software as usual.

If you try to preserve your existing installation, you can try to combine the above process with one of the options available for the creation and restoration of RT disk images, although I am not very familiar with these tools and can not comment or creating an image on a single disk partition and restaurant then a disc multi-partition will be successful.  Here is a good linkto start with which describes the options available.

  • Image vs cloning on the new HARD drive with an operating system already installed.

First of all, I'm NOT tech savvy.  I apologize in advance.

After several warnings error that my hard drive was in danger of failing, I was finally able to install a new HARD drive.  Windows has had some difficulty in installing Windows 7 to new HARD drive, but I finally found a solution.  So here's my current situation.

I have the main drive (old) (C:\) which has Windows 7 and all my data on it (it is a Seagate 1 TB HARD drive that came installed on my Dell Studio XPS 8100).  I installed a new WD Black 1 TB HARD drive and was finally able to get Windows to download on it (it reads now like two distinct? score?) E:\ and F:\) see photo.

    Now, my question is this...

I want to save all my data from my old HDD and put it on my new HARD drive.  One that I have this, I would like to remove the old Windows 7 HDD and use it as "extra" space

Make a clone of the old HARD drive to the new since I have already installed the new Windows 7 HARD disk?

Please advise and please keep in mind that I might say things correctly and I can't understand though if the answers are on my level.  I appreciate any help!

OK, so here is what I would do to try to avoid problems of compatibility or driver, as far as I can:
-Turn off your system completely and unplug from the power outlet wall
-Disconnect the old drive in your system (SATA and power cables)
-Place the new WD Black on the main port SATA (should be labeled SATA0)
-Turn on your system and put your OS drive you can do a completely new installation of the operating system.
S ' ensure that you have updated all the drivers and the operating system after the installation
-Turn off your system and plug your old drive
-Turn on the system in the BIOS and make sure the WD Black has the priority starting on the old HDD
-Boot into the operating system and copy all data from the start of your old disk partition that you want to keep for the WD Black
-Go to disk management and delete the old boot partitions and the old drive system
-The old HDD should be your secondary drive now and you can freely move files between the two disks
N ' have in mind that due to the new copy of the OS, you must reinstall all the games and programs in order to operate because of the new system registry

This should put you on the safe side and prevent any compatibility issue or driver which is possible during a clone or restore procedure. :)

  • Can I use a legitimate DVD Win7 product key to activate the operating system already installed?

I used a DVD Windows 7 Home Premium I bought from Amazon to install on 2 computers, THEN discovered the 2nd computer would not accept the product key.  I don't want to reinstall the OS and I can't seem to find a place online legitimately sell just a product key, so if I buy another DVD on Amazon, the product key that comes with it will allow the existing installation to activate, or do I have to spend a day or more to reload the operating system, drivers, programs, settings etc, just to stinking activation?

This information is partially incorrect. OEM System Builder licenses come with a product key.

Yes, it does not require a clean install, but because you already have Windows 7 Home Premium installed to use your retail disk, all you have to do is to change the product key, no installation required.

  • VMWare vSphere install on a machine have an operating system already installed

    Hi guys,.

I'm new on the VMWare products and I can't use VMWare specific terms when asking a question.

I wonder if it is possible to do the following:

Install vSphere to hardware that is already hosting a Windows 2003 server operating system. This Windows Server operating system would become the first VM for this platform. Then, we would add VM more to the system. We would like to avoid to remove the current operating system, and then install vSphere, followed by the installation and the configuration of the current Windows operating system as a machine virtual.

    Best regards

  • XP pro will not validate: upgrade Windows 7 tells me that I need a valid operating system to install

Can anyone shed a light on my dilemma please?

I have a legitimate Windows XP pro (OEM version), purchased copy in good faith of Amazon.co.uk in March 2005. Everything I've done is update the motherboard on several occasions. The drive never left my possession, but which would have been, I activated XP pro 20 times! This time around (Christmas) I've updated the motherboard once more and now I was rejected validation by Microsoft.

Yesterday (December 28), I received a phone call from Microsoft (possibly in India) informing me that they refuse to validate due to the fact that I broke the rules of my license.

I was told that I GOT to upgrade to Windows 7!

Reluctantly, it seems, I have no choice I'm not familiar with any other operating system.

The only problem is now, it seems that I am not authorized to upgrade to Windows 7, I have not an operating system valid in order to allow the upgrade to run?

Is this really the case? I buy the complete package as opposed to the upgrade?

    Can anyone help please?

    Dave :-(

Probably motherboard changes have invalidated your xp license. An OEM license is not transferable to a new motherboard.  (a new motherboard is considered a new computer)

You need a full commercial license in your situation. An upgrade license requires an activated license of qualification.

    Hi Mike,.

I can't tell you why, who started, but I can help you disable this menu and safe you 30 seconds:

    1. System opened by clicking on the button start , right click on computer and then click Properties.

    2. Click Advanced system settings.  If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    3. Click the Advanced tab, and then under Startup and recovery, click settings.

    4. Under system startup, in the list operating system by default, unchecktime to display list of operating systems.

As an alternative, you can leave this checked and simply reduce the number of 30 seconds.

    Hope that helps!

  • HP Pavilion dv4-1120br: doubts about the BIOS update for my model with the operating system current instaled.

    Hello

I have a HP Pavilion dv4-1120br, I know that this model of HP laptop is old, but I instaled the 64 bit of Windows 10 on my machine and saw that my BIOS is version F.30 and the last of them available on the site of HP F.66 has.

The problem is that this model is not suport for Windows 10 because, as I said, is too old. Can I download and run the update of the BIOS for Windows 7 64-bit available in the Web site, or I need to downgrade my OS to Windows 7, update the BIOS and then pass it back to Windows 10?

    Thanks for the help!

    Cantarino

    Hello;

Let me welcome you on the HP forums!

Your second proposal is correct - as the updates to the BIOS on the HP site are specific to the OS version and if you try to run one for Win7 in Win10, it will refuse to run.

    Good luck
