Optical Audio Jack on a Terminal Airport Express, which digital optical connector/adapter is necessary?

Optical Audio Jack on a pattern common Airport Express (model A1392, purchase of 2015) - digital optical connector/adapter is necessary?  My stereo has a TOS connector, but I'm not familiar with the analog/optical socket on the side of the airport.  What type of cable connector does?

It's called a mini-TOSlink. It has the same dimensions as a headphone jack 3.5 mm, but it is simply a small tube. You can buy adapters to the mini jack to the TOSlink Jack standard to stick on the end of a normal wire, or lead with a type at each end. Some equipped trails a couple of detachable adapters provided.

For example:

I have an Airport Express, which gives an unexpected error message when you try to connect to a router WEP (Verizon) existing iOS9.3.2

It flashes orange, but can not be reconnected to the router or to the title of the Setup Assistant or Airport utility.  Is there a way to reconnect to WIFI or should I bite the bullet and connect via Cat5e and be done with it.  My VPN works much better without AirPort Express connected.

Sorry, but there is no WEP settings AirPort Utility on the iPhone or iPad, or any Mac version of AirPort Utility which was used for the last 4 years or so.

If you have an older Mac still running AirPort 5.x utility or a PC with the AirPort for Windows utility installed on the device, the WEP settings that could be used to get the Express to connect to a WEP network there.

As you know, WEP has not been secured for a number of years, and there are any number of free utilities available on the Internet, which is crack a WEP network in a few seconds. Thus, all those who want to be on your network will not have problems to do very quickly.

    But it's your call.

  • Problems connecting to an AirPort Express, which already extends another Express.

Hey everybody, I just want to know if it is possible for an Airport Express to connect to an OTHER Airport Express which is already expanding an Airport Extreme.

    Post edited by: Kas1302

It is possible for the Express to connect to another Express which is the extension of the network already... BUT... the 'last' Express will not extend the network once again, if that's what you're really asking here.

This is because Apple doesn't allow the wireless signal to be extended only once, not two.

It would seem that the last Exrress is the extension of the network, but it is not.  It is 'join' the wireless network, and when he "joined", it doesn't provide any additional wireless signal coverage.  However, the last Express could still work for AirPlay, or a USB printer remotely.

Feature of "extend" Apple works as the hub and the spokes of a wheel.  The main router is the 'hub', and an Extender would be located at the end of "sticks". As such, he communicates directly to the main router.  You can have multiple devices, the expansion of the network at the end of the other rays, but each Extender must communicate directly with the main router.

  • I want to use a Terminal Airport Express to extend network provided by my Fios router/modem without going through another airport base.  Is there a way to do this?  I understand that Apple does not support this, but surely there must be a way to do this.

Can someone tell me how to set up an Airport Express Terminal to expand Network provided by my Fios router/modem without going through an airport as a base?  I understand that apple does not support this use, but my applecare Advisor said it's possible.  Thank you!

Unfortunately, your AppleCare Advisor is wrong if he or she has told you that an AirPort Express to extend wireless signal of a Fios router/modem.

Function of "Extend a wireless network" Apple is an exclusive feature that was designed by Apple engineers to extend the signal from another wireless only router from Apple. Thus, the AirPort Express... or any other router Apple besides... would not be able to extend wireless a Fios network.

SO... you have the possibility to locate the Airport Express where it is needed... And... Connect it to the Fios router/modem with a permanent, wired Ethernet cable connection, then the AirPort Express can 'extend' in this way.

Or... If you are ready to add a second AirPort Express, connect the first near Fios modem/router with an Ethernet cable, then the second Airport Express could extend the signal first Express wireless.

Another way to say the same thing, is that if you want an Apple AirPort router to extend wireless network... then you need two Apple routers to achieve this goal.

  • Adding a switch to a Terminal Airport Express

I need to add ethernet connections to a box in my house. I have currently a router (WAN/LAN)-> Apple Airport Extreme-> via WiFi--> two Apple Airport Express. I need to add more ethernet connection where the Express is, I can add one, say Netgear, switch connected to the connection to the LAN of the Express and expand my network with say 5 additional ethernet ports?

Sure.  Do not forget that the Express has a 100 Mbps Ethernet port, so any device connected to the switch will be limited to 100 Mbps, even if you have a switch to 1,000 Mbps.

  • How to test the signal strength of an Airport Express, which extends a network?

I am trying to understand how my Airport Express is actually help to expand my network, and if I should move somewhere different. Any help would be appreciated!

Current situation: my base station is an AirPort Extreme in our apartment computer room; for the internet, which is plugged into the wall. The wifi network is extended in the living room via an AirPort Express (version 7.6.4). There are on the same cabinet as the AirPort Express to Apple TV. The Airport Express has an optical cable connecting to a sound bar (which has an additional HDMI connection to the TV).

I don't really know if the AirPort Express Terminal, he does something useful. The network is set to be extended, best I can tell: Airport Extreme network Mode is "Create a wireless network", and network Mode of the AirPort Express is "extend a wireless network. But still, the wifi on my iPad and iPhone signal strength seem to fall much in the living room. Apple TV usually broadcasts music from my desktop computer (in the computer room) well enough, but if I try to play music from my computer via the Apple Express at the soundbar, the connection is terrible and fall. (Which could be a problem with wifi, or could be an aging Airport Express question, could be a cable problem or might be a sound bar problem...)

An example of what worries me: if I go to the Airport utility on my iPhone and a glance at the Airport Extreme, it has 4 Wireless, including Apple TV clients. But if I look at the AirPort Express, there sometimes a client wireless (iPhone), but never shows the Apple TV: even if the Apple TV is about 30 cm of the Airport Express. It's as if the 30cm distant to the Airport Express connection is weaker than the connection of two-rooms-distant Airport Extreme, but I am probably wrong that.

In any case, is there a way to test what speed is through the AirPort Express, compared to through the extreme? I tried to use applications like CloudCheck on my iOS devices, but those only measure the speed of my network, and it is unclear whether or not he uses the Extreme or Express.

Thanks in advance and all apologies if I used (almost inevitably) 'Express' when I should have used "Extreme", or vice versa, somewhere at the top.

One way to see the strength of the signal is the Alt (option) key while clicking on the WiFi icon in the menu bar.

But you see not directly related to the airport of arrival. Also the Airport utility does not give much information.

You can see a lot more with the free app (Appstore) called "WiFi Scanner".

The problem could be that the place you have chosen for the Airport Express can be better: it should be somewhere in halfway (in force) between the Real and where you sit with the iPad/iPhone.

  • Airport Express which runs from the BT Home Hub

    Hello

I have an iMac and a Mac who need backup, and I also want to extend the signal wi - fi upstairs in my house.

I bought a time capsule from the airport, the main Airport utility and tried to implement.

Can I GRT at the stage where it broadcasts a Wi - Fi connection name and I can connect to it OK but it does not connect to the internet.  I'm clicked on edit and go to the WiFi settings and set it to the BRIDGE and put in the name of wifi BT HH and password but still nothing.

I googled this and there seems to be some discussions that say it last only another apple product and some that say you can use it with HH BT wireless?

Can someone give me an asnswer difinitive please and tell me how (if possible) to implement wireless to expand the wifi signbal.

    Thank you very much

Function of "extend a wireless network" Apple owns... .it will only extend wireless signal from another router from Apple.

At one time... over 3 years ago... it was possible to configure time Capsule to connect to a router from another manufacturer. It is a parameter to "join a wireless network.  But he could not "extend" the network when he does this.

The "Join" option has been removed since more than 3 years, because it was highly reliable.

If you want to use the time Capsule with the Home Hub, Time Capsule must connect to the Home Hub using wired Ethernet wired, permanent.  Then, if you wanted to "extend" the signal Time Capsule wireless wireless, you might add another router from Apple, such as an AirPort Extreme or AirPort Express.

The bottom line here... If you want wireless "extend" an Apple product, you will need two routers Apple to do.

  • Terminal Airport express "could not extend network" after working fine for a week

I bought an express airport last weekend and got on the rise and working on the 2nd floor of my house without any problem.  I had problems with reception shotty in my son, which is the furthest from our extreme airport room.  On Wednesday night, trying to connect to the woman in his room I continued loss of reception and so when I looked at my express it's orange flashing.  Pulled up to the airport utility and it says that the connection was excellent, but that the airport base station could not extend the wireless network.  The only thing I can think is that I used my iphone to listen to music through my apple tv the same day and I'm not sure if that set something off somehow. I have the express several times using the soft/hard factory redefined and methods without success.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

BTW, I created this as an extended network. Try to read and understand any bypass but do not know if this is the right way to go

  • Extend an AirPort Extreme with a Terminal AirPort Express increasing the number of users?

I have an AirPort Extreme 2 years ago. Based on the technical page of the product, the router can theoretically connect up to 50 users. That's more than enough if used at home.

However, I intend to deploy a network of airports in our new office building and we have more or less 50 employees. Because everyone has a smartphone that it needs to connect, I try to at least 100 users/devices. Which includes all the network printers. Obviously, an AirPort Extreme is not enough. Another thing, I have considered is that the office building is 2 floors and all the walls are made of concrete, which means the distribution of the wifi signals is affected.

I thought to extend an AirPort extreme with 3 more AirPort Expressare (mobile network). It's 2 APs on each floor. That should solve the problem of distribution wifi. I'm not sure the first problem - 100 or more devices into a single network.

So extending an AirPort Extreme with 3 more AirPort Expressare (making a roaming network with 4 access points) increases the number of potential users of 50 to 200 (assuming that each access point can connect to 50 users)?

In theory, Yes.  But you must take this specification of 50 users with a grain of salt.  Once there are 20-25 users on the same airport access point, things will slow down significantly. The system will operate as of cold molasses with up to 50 users on the same access point.

Quite frankly, in a business application, you need a software router. Apple routers are designed for home use.

Another way to say the same thing, is that Apple does not routers Apple at the Apple Store. Who could tell more than anything whatsoever about the suitability of the products in your proposed network.

My advice would be to get an IT professional in and review your needs... before you move further.

  • Hello! If you are using an airport extreme and an Airport Express, which must be configured as the primary Base Station?

I like to keep my extreme in my apartment (which doesn't have an Ethernet port) for reasons of flight. Any tips?

Given these choices, I would say that you use the extreme as your primary access point.

However, your comment about no Ethernet port to your apartment. In order to use a base station as your main router, it must be connected to a modem that provides an Ethernet port.

  • Is my Airport Express now superfluous?

I used an Airport Express as a work-around.  Isn't it more that my network is going through my Time Capsule.

Probably yes.  If your Time Capsule is newer then you have probably no need of the Airport Express on your network.

The only reason why you can still have an old Airport Express on the network as well would be if you use it to listen to music to the speakers via audio jack mini of the Airport Express.

Unless you are notified, network is actually good reason to remove the Airport Express to your network it can contribute to a "double NAT" configuration, or even a configuration with two DHCP servers on the same network.  They will be both very undesirable.

  • Airport Express - no internet if audio cable is connected

    Hello

I have an Airport Express for several years already and it worked perfectly fine for me until today.

I didn't know that the internet connection has stopped working. After trying different things, I realized that the internet connection works when I connect the audio cable to the the Airport Express - airport service program in the internet sign suddenly gets Orange and green not as soon as I connect the audio cable to use for AirPlay. When I disconnect the audio cable again, it works again.

Any ideas of what this could be?

In this way, that I can't use Airplay longer.

    Airport Express: Version 7.6.7.

I tried the update of the AXE, but this did not help.

Thanks to everyone for your ideas!

    Best regards

Is the Terminal AirPort Express the only router in the current configuration of your network? What is the brand and model of the Internet with a modem or gateway that you have the Express directly connected by Ethernet?

  • The AirPort Express Terminal is good enough for me?

I need a new wireless router to replace my Netgear WNDR4300 'antiques '.  The network is only 2-3 laptops and iPhones 1-2 at a time, over a printer and Chromecast device.  We occasionally video stream, but not often.  Critics say the AirPort Express is best purchased as an add-on to an existing network, but I can't justify more expensive options from the airport.  I don't need the 11ac 802 that offer other options, and it seems that margin would be a problem, because it is limited to 5 GHz.  We have a two-storey house. Is the simple terminal AirPort Express good enough for my home network?

The AirPort Express, pourraient deliver similar performance to your old Netgear router in terms of signal strength and the beach... but the only way to know with certainty if the Express will be good enough for your needs is to try in your home.

Try to locate the Express up high on a shelf or Cabinet, if you can, to help in the dissemination of the signal.

Fortunately, if you buy through Apple, you have one day 14, no questions asked return privilege, so if the Express does not provide the performance you need, you can return the unit for Exchange or a refund.

  • iPhone not recognizing only no internet after installing the new cable router attached to the Airport Express Terminal.

My configuration is modem cable to Airport Express which is connected wireless to a Time Capsule.  I am able to surf with my laptop, it's the iPhone 5 s is no longer is grateful for the internet.

When I turn off the wifi on the iPhone, Airport utility displays only the Internet icon with the green light. The cable modem has no possibilities of wifi so I do not understand to THE.

When I turn on wifi, the wifi devices present with green lights and the internet shows a yellow light.

Through the different ways for a solution.  Power cycling my net and telephone.  Forget this network don't forget the password and I have to choose the wifi and enter a password. Still seeing internet.

Why should you have the Airport Express? The Capsule is also a WiFi router.

I would use an Ethernet connector at one end a DIN 5 pin to a pair of speakers beolab 2500/2300. I don't want to use the PIN audio output on the Airport express, as it is analog. Can I use the Ethernet connections on airport express at the exit of music over wifi to a set of speakers?

    Sorry, but no.

I don't want to use the PIN audio output on the Airport express, as it is analog

Perhaps you weren't aware that audio port on the AirPort Express audio book Terminal analog or digital, according to the type of connector used. See this link on the AirPort Express specifications to confirm... http://www.Apple.com/Airport-Express/specs/

In other words, for the Express deliver audio analog, connect a standard stereo mini plug with connectors appropriate to the other end.  To ensure that the Express deliver audio digital, plug a mini Toslink cable to the audio port on Terminal AirPort Express.  An example is in this link...
