  Error number: 0x800C0133 = a corrupt Inbox.
   
  Move any message you want to save to a local folder that you create if you can.
   
  Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.
   
  In Windows XP, Win2K & Win2K3 the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder options | View.
   
  With OE closed, find the box of Inbox.dbx and rename it to Inboxold.dbx. Another will be created automatically when you open OE.
   
  Now, you have an Inbox clean and fresh. Check the Windows Recycle Bin and the message OE store folder for a file Inbox.bak. If you have one, note the date of creation and after return before doing anything. If you do not have a bak file, DBXpress is your best chance to retrieve your messages.

  Do not archive mail in the receipt or sent items box. Create your own user-defined folders and move messages you want to put in them. Empty the deleted items folder daily. Although the dbx files have a theoretical capacity of 2 GB, I recommend all a 300 MB max for less risk of corruption.
   
  After you're done, followed by compacting your folders manually while working * off * and do it often.
   
  Click Outlook Express at the top of the the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work offline (or double-click on work online in the status bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed.
   
  Disable analysis in your e-mail anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that devours the processors and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs and account setting changes.   My computer was working very slowly I did a restore to system (F10) factory. Then, I realized after that although it is very very fast now, I lost EVERYTHING. After playing a bit, I found a lot of files in 'C: Drive', which included bookmarks, photos and many documents. One thing which is a MAJOR problem of e-mail contacts.

  I've looked everywhere for contacts and I can't seem to find them anywhere. Does anyone know much about it?

  I opened outlook express this morning to discover all of the emails in inbox missing.  What's past and how to bring them back?

  This happens often.  Records often self-destruction in OE and messages have disappeared.  Check your Inbox for an inbox.bak file which is a backup of the Inbox.dbx file (see www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#2 and also point 4 on this page).  If there is no bak file so you will need a message recovery program, as my program of DBXpress (www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/), which may or may not be able to recover the lost messages (but if any program can, it will be).

  If you use XP/SP2 or SP3, and are fully patched, then you should have a backup of your dbx files in the Recycle Bin (or possibly the message store), copied as bak files.
   
  To restore a folder bak on the message store folder, first find the location of the message store.

  You can not make OE your email client by default if you are not using OE. You can do the following and start using OE, but why don't you just save the scan to a Windows folder and then start a new message from Hotmail and fix it? Using OE with Hotmail is a chore, if you're not used to it.

  First of all, please note that Windows Mail is not provided and does not normally work under Windows 7. Perhaps mean you Windows Live Mail, which is a differnet program and also does not come with Windows7, well that many manufacturers together with the computers they sell.

  Windows 7 doesn't have a native email client integrated as previous versions of Windows, so you can decide what email client you use first.

  Remember - this is a public forum so never post private information such as numbers of mail or telephone!

  Last night, there was a sudden unplanned shutdown down of the PC (turn off).  After the reboot (late last night) and go to the Inbox Outlook Express, only e-mail messages today were from this time (2 / 26 +)!  I can't find any obvious backup file for old messages (more than 26/02/2010).

  (1) what might have happened?  I got shut-off before without any problem.

  (2) where the old emails can be (if not actually erased)?

  (3) how can I get these emails restored to OE (if they still exist)?

• Outlook Express - lost personal folders/Messages

  Deesktop my wife is under XP (updated latest & greatest) and Outlook Express 6.0.2900.5512. I'm not sure what she did, or how she does but she managed to lose all her personal records & associated messages. They are not in a local folder 'system', including the deleted items folder (a lot of messages here, but no records incorporated). At Pooffffff.

  Someone at - it suggestions on how I should go about 'research' for them, by what name (s), etc. ??? Reboot was not a solution - majic didn't happen!

  Make sure that it wasn't another identity implemented by accident or due to an accident. Locate the storage folder and also see if there is another folder in storage along the way.
