  • My Outlook Express messages are saved as .ids please help

After getting a virus tds, I tried to backup my Outlook Express messages by copying the identities under the application data folder. The problem is that in the exact folder where Outlook Express said that it stored the messages that I have 3 files with the correct names: Inbox, saved etc. but extensions are .ids NOT .dbx and the files are only about 1 KB. My Oulook Express reinstalled does not recognize these files and rename the .dbx does not help. Of course since they only about 1 KB of real data probably isn't there somehow. So even if Outlook Express has actually done this folder as folder where it was stored, is it possible that my messages were stored somewhere else, under data of demand or they are lost forever? I will state that I have no file .dbx anywhere!

    Tina.

    Do this first:

Select Show files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder Options icon | Opinion, or in Windows Explorer. Tools | Folder options | View.

Now, do a search and look for *.dbx

Don't you think that all dbx files that are not part of your new message store folder? Note the location and after return.

In addition to the problem that is described in this article with temporary files, Outlook Express can have an empty message, if Internet Explorer is configured to display, coding for automatic selection. If so, disable the automatic selection in Internet Explorer and choose rather Western European (ISO). If your program has an option to read HTML messages as plain text, the HTML version of the message may appear as an ATT0001. HTM attachment (the number may vary).

Outlook express 6 does not work anymore so I went to windows live mail, but I keep getting error messages re; Outlook express, even if I do not use it. How can I get rid of error messages?

You are welcome. If you ever want difficulty OE, you need not to be able to access first.

To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder Options icon | Opinion, or in Windows Explorer. Tools | Folder options | View.

The path to the message will be very similar to this:

    C:\Documents and Settings\Your User of utilisateur\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\ {long string of letters & numbers} \Microsoft\Outlook Express

Simply deleting Folders.dbx and OE should open after that.

How can I copy book addess of Outlook Express on your laptop running xp, to a new laptop running Win7 and office Outlook 2007.

I don't know if Outlook will import directly a stand-alone WAB. He could.

    You might try that first.

If this does not work, you have two easy options.

1 export the OE address book to CSV file and import that into Outlook. (Make sure you check the mapping of the fields before making the final import)

    2. install Outlook temporarily on the XP machine and import the addfressbook. Transfer the pst file that result to Outlook on the new, open and copy all contacts in all.

Network adapters [00000008] ULi PCI Fast Ethernet Controller failure

After setting the network card to make IE work, then check OE.  If the OE still has problems, check under Tools | Options | Connections and tools | Accounts | Mail | Properties | Connection to be sure, the settings are correct.  You may also need to remove your e-mail account, close OE and then add it back again.

  • Problem with Outlook Express "Message has not been downloaded."

I'm having a problem with emails and attachments removed once I open and view them.  More specifically, when I opened an e-mail message by using Microsoft Outlook Express 6 with an attachment, I am able to see the file and open the attachment.  However, when I go back to this same email one or two weeks later, I see the following is message "Message has not been downloaded" Outlook Express has not yet downloaded this message. »

Please let me know what is the cause for this.  I have very important emails that have disappeared.

In more of Bruce's response, if you lost messages (and it seems you if messages do not appear) and then check your Inbox for a bak file is a backup of the dbx file that you can restore.  See www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#2 and see point 4 on retrieving the messages.  I suspect the problem is due to having interference from antivirus software because it is probably what causes this loss, then see item 3 on this page also, as noted in Bruce.

  • Outlook express message files compact

Once my machine started to the top I get the outlook express compact files pop up message.  I did not and have never used outlook express for email, so why OE delivers this message.  I tried to completely remove the OE my machine, but all attempts to remove or rename files either result in a "file in use" message, or in the case of an attempt to change of name, the system creates a new copy.  Full scans the machine AV don't identify any issues of Trojan or malicious and all software security patches are applied.

Can anyone tell how to stop this message occurs please?

    CHRS Bert

Leave you compact once, correct? If you did, here is the complete list of opportunities.

The problem is with the registry counter which gives you the prompt after 100 closures of OE. It is increased faster than it should be, and even if you do not OE.

There are a growing number of programs and actions that can cause after installing SP3. You have following situations?

Keyboard IBM rapid access (pilot) RAKDLL. DLL
    Search Windows {office}
    MailWasher
    Nero-plug-in (s)

Opening of EML files while OE is closed will also help the County to register.

Different antivirus, antispyware, and third-party firewall, especially if they were running when you installed SP3.

In the case of Windows Search, (the offender #1), you must be told to stop indexing OE.

Windows Search. Set Desktop Search Options:
    http://www.Microsoft.com/Australia/windows/desktopsearch/search/options.mspx

In the control panel. Indexing Options. Change. Clear the check box for Outlook Express.

In the case of Nero Scout, see point 2.3 page 8 here.
    FTP://ftp6.Nero.com/user_guides/Nero8/Scout/NeroScout_Enu.PDF

In the option to exclude indexing of selected file types, remember to add these file types:

    .eml, .dbx & .nws

  • How can I get rid of an Outlook Express message that appears at startup?

    The message is placed:

To free up disk space, Outlook Express can compress...

I don't even use Outlook Express.

If you are comfortable in the Windows registry, you can navigate to the following address:

    \Software\Microsoft\Outlook Express\5.0 HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Identities\ {Long ID Number}

    Name: "Compact Check Count".

    Value = 0

    Otherwise, I'm out of ideas.

  • Any URL in MS Outlook Express I click on does not take me to a web page.

I've asked this question before and did not get a resolution of the problem.

Windows XP SP3 updates to all windows.

I installed an anti-ad software that invalidates any URL in MS Outlook Express or other 3rd party applications (Skype, Yahoo IM, etc.)

I tried to reinstall Windows XP CD to repair the problem without reformatting or erase other my data.

Please find a solution. This problem lasts 2 to 3 weeks.

You needn't msjava.dll.  It is an optional file and has nothing to do with your problem.

    See www.oehelp.com/ielnk.aspx and www.oehelp.com/oelnk.aspx and www.oehelp.com/oedef.aspx

Also, make sure you have uninstalled the software 'anti-ad' and see www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 for other programs that may interfere with the functionality of the OE.

Remove your e-mail account, close OE and then reopen it and add your account to mail back again and see if that fixes things.  If this isn't the case, then some diagnostic test you run must also explain that you can not control the SMTP server yourself, and if he has any questions, then you should contact the vendor of the SMTP server.
