Outlook Express seems closely related to other programs.

I received a reply that I could remove Outlook Express from my computer, but after checking out, it seems to be part of other Programs from Microsoft.  I'm afraid to remove it - what happens if he messes with other programs?  When I try to reset all the Yahoo, it doesn't give me that option.  He's going only to Outlook Express.  Any suggestions?

You are right that you can't remove OE it's part of IE6 and your XP operating system.

When you click on a mailto link, it looks like a default mail client. Yahoo is only Webmail and not an e-mail client. It may solve your problem though.

How can I make Yahoo! Mail my default email application?
http://help.Yahoo.com/l/us/Yahoo/mail/YAHOOMAIL/settings/settings-10.html

You can also make the OE Inbox read-only and OE does not open, but I can't do that alone will make open Yahoo.

In OE: Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.

In Windows XP, the files of user OE (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder Options icon | Opinion, or in Windows Explorer. Tools | Folder options | View.

With OE closed, find the box of Inbox.dbx. Right-click on it and then Propertied and check the read-only box.

  • Maybe easily recovery Outlook Express folders and messages in WinXp Home v6?

I've performed on a system Windows XP Home sp3 v6.00.2900.5512 Outlook Express as the e-mail client.

Make a few mistakes that took place I lost a number of records and messages [probably of thousands] (and how I got the installation folder tree) in Outlook Express. Luckily (I Think) the program a few days ago asked that I want to compress the files Outlook and after doing so I have .bak files in the Recycle Bin.  I wonder if I can simply copy the .bak files in the own (whatever they are) subdirectory and everything back to normal?  I hope that no key of registry or something else needs to be done.

I would like to experiment, however, since I am running XP home, I can't have other options if I have something to spoil as food does not easily seem to work for me, XP Home lacks the ability to use ASR to restore the registry hives and I don't have any backup software file in order to get it right the first time means a lot to me :)

Also, I did a search of the hard drive and it shows that, in the subdirectory doc um ~ 1/name of user/Application data / identities / {x-x-x - x-} files such as Sent items.dbx (553 MB), sent items (1) .dbx (33 MB) & Envoy points (2) .dbx (75 Kb), the most important [sent items.dbx] is a few minutes more than the #3 file but it is much bigger and what if all I have to do is to take the files such as this one and put it in (which directory)? and he will restore that particular file this morning before the problem was which would be awesome!

Also, if not all the records of previous mail are located in either the bin or able to find in files of type xxxxx (1) .dbx as the subdirectory above is there anywhere else I can go to retrieve the messages/folders, which disappeared this morning. I have a program to undelete on the system but there of own set of problems and is not reliable or even running, at the present time.

I hope I have this in the right area as I see that 8 forums listed to choose from.

Thank you for reading this and any help or suggestions you may have,

    Mumford68

You have a corrupted message store.  That's why you have the type etc. (2) in the file names.  The best thing you can do is to backup all files dbx and bak you have and then save.  Then you can try the recovery.

Start of OE and set up a new identity.  This will give you a new bank messages and the new registry hive.  Then add your e-mail accounts and make sure they work.  Then, if you have any dbx with folders.dbx files directory, you can try to go to file | Import | Messages and then choose to import from a directory and not to another identity and then see what is important.  After this date, you can try to manually import files using the method described here: www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx#imp1 and you can try the dbx files and bak (just rename the bak to dbx), but do not try and import existing files such as Inbox.dbx box--instead create new folders and rename those you are trying to import.

If you have not yet recovered messages, my DBXpress program (www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/) will extract messages from the dbx corrupted files (as long as the files are not filled with zeros) and there is also an exclusive excerpt from disc feature that will bypass the file system and analyze the entire disk directly to messages , and if they are still there, he's going to recover them.

In the future beware of the antivirus software which aggravates the tendency to the destruction of messages in OE (see www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3) and back up frequently (see www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#6).

  • Cannot open emails from Outlook Express on Windows 7

Original title: Outlook express on exploere8

I just bought a new computer which has windows 7 and explorer 8 is installed, my old computor was an outlook express program that has lots of emails stored in it. I don't seem to be able to open these emails outlook express doesn't automatically come with explorer8?

Outlook Express is an e-mail Client program.  Internet Explorer is a web browser.  They are completely different animals.

Windows 7 computers lack any e-mail client program (unless the manufacturer of the computer or the seller has installed a). Therefore, you will need to download and install your own choice email client.

Microsoft to promote Windows Live Mail, the free successor to Outlook Express.  You can download the program ofhttp://download.live.com.   WLMail belongs to the series of programs, Windows Live, which includes Windows Live Messenger, etc.. However, you just install the items you need.

At present, there are two versions of WLMail available for download.  The latest stable version of the suite of programs live was "Wave 3"(version number 14.0.8117.0416).  However, you also have the option to install the version 'Wave 4' of the various programs.  I have no experience of the Wave 4 programs (which are beta (or test) releases), so cannot advise.

Once you have installed WLMail, you will need to copy the messages from your old computer to Win XP files in a directory on your new Windows 7 computer.  Then, you will be able to open WLMail and click on file / import - import messages and other data.  With the version of Wave 3, the menu bar (which provides the file / edit / view / go / tools / Actions & help commands) is hidden by default.  To display the menu bar on an ad hoc basis, press Ctrl. To display the menu bar, click Alt and M together. Then, press M (or select "Show menu bar").

You will find further instructions to the http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/importing-your-e-mail-contacts-and-calendar-into-windows-live-mail. However, a Google search led me to www.pcdon.com/080113OutlookExpress-WindowsLiveMail.html, which you can find easier to understand.

  • emails missing when outlook express compact

When outlook express is closed, he asked if I wanted to compact the files to save space. After compaction, all mails disappeared and are no longer in the Inbox. Where can I find them

Two reasons the most common for what you describe is disruption of the compacting process, (never touch anything until it's finished), or bloated folders. More about that below.

Why OE insists on compacting folders when I close it? :
    http://www.insideoe.com/FAQs/why.htm#compact

    Why mail disappears:

    About file Corruption:
    http://www.Microsoft.com/Windows/IE/community/columns/filecorruption.mspx

    Recovery methods:

If you use XP/SP2 or SP3, and are fully patched, then you should have a backup of your dbx files in the Recycle Bin (or possibly the message store), copied as bak files.

To restore a folder bak on the message store folder, first find the location of the message store.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.

In Windows XP, the .dbx files are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in the Solution Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder options | View.

Close OE and in Windows Explorer, click on the dbx to the file missing or empty file, then drag it to the desktop. It can be deleted later once you have successfully restored the bak file. Minimize the message store.

Open OE and, if the folder is missing, create a folder with the * exact * same name as the bak file you want to restore but without the .bak. For example: If the file is Saved.bak, the new folder should be named saved. Open the new folder, and then close OE. If the folder is there, but just empty, continue to the next step.

First of all, check if there is a bak file already in the message. If there is, and you have removed the dbx file, go ahead and rename it in dbx.

If it is not already in the message, open the trash and do a right-click on the file bak for the folder in question and click on restore. Open the message store up and replace the .bak by .dbx file extension. Close the message store and open OE. Messages must be in the folder.

If messages are restored successfully, you can go ahead and delete the old dbx file that you moved to the desktop.

If you have not then bak copies of your dbx files in the Recycle Bin:

DBXpress run in extract disc Mode is the best chance to recover messages:
    http://www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/default.aspx

    And see:
    http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#4

A general warning to help avoid this in the future:

Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They finally are damaged. Create your own folders defined by the user for mail storage and move your mail to them. Empty the deleted items folder regularly. Keep user created folders under 300 MB, and also empty as is possible to default folders.

Disable analysis in your e-mail anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that devours the CPUs, slows down sending and receiving and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs, account setting changes and has even been responsible for the loss of messages. Your up-to-date A / V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more information, see:
    http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3

  • "server not found" error in outlook express when you try to send an e-mail

    Outlook Express problems

When I sent a simple e-mail with pictures attached, I received an error box.  I get the same thing when I try to a business information by email.  The "error" box mentions Outlook Express with a lot of other jargin that I don't understand.  Help!

Your first message says the error message mentions Outlook Express, but the error message you provided did not mention the OE.

You also ask a question from Outlook Express in a forum of Win7 and OE last used in XP.

Please forgive my error in interpretation of your question because it is a little confusing.

    So..................

    1. What version of Windows are you using?
    2. What email program are you using?
    3. Who is your mail server?

See if one of these ideas to help you. How you saved as eml files should be good, that's how to open them now.

1: open OE and slide a .eml recorded you message an OE folder. (Maybe create a new folder in OE to avoid confusion). This message is now open in OE?

    2: create a file association.

    1. you saved eml files.
    2. right click on a saved file.
    3. Select: Open with on the shortcut menu.
    4. click on: choose [default] program.
    5 select: Outlook Express
    6. check: always use the selected program to open this type of file.
    7. click on OK.

3: Remove Windows Live Mail, as appropriate.
