Outlook express stops responding

Running Microsoft XP SP3 on a Dell Vostro_200.

Usually use Mozilla Firefox, but recently downloaded Internet Explorer 8 (also to try to solve my problem)
Using Norton Security Suite that I got when I subscribed to the internet service Comcast high speed.

It is that half the time when I try to launch Outlook Express to access my email, it's just
is sitting there and when I try to shut it down he said. .   Is not responding...!       It is very annoying as
You must then close everything, send the error report to Microsoft, and try again to launch.

What problem and how can it be fixed?

You may have a damaged identity especially if it's the default main identity. File | Identity | Add the new identity. Create a new one and try it. If all goes well, you can import your messages and address book from the old identity and delete it.

Note: Do not use the main word in the name of the new identity.

General precautions for Outlook Express:

Do not archive mail in the receipt or sent items box. Create your own user-defined folders and move messages you want to put in them. Empty the deleted items folder daily. Although the dbx files have a theoretical capacity of 2 GB, I recommend all a 300 MB max for less risk of corruption.

Information on the maximum size of the .dbx files that are used by Outlook Express:
http://support.Microsoft.com/?kbid=903095

After you're done, followed by compacting your folders manually while working * off * and do it often.

Click Outlook Express at the top of the the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work offline (or double-click on work online in the status bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed.

Disable analysis in your e-mail anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that devours the processors and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs and account setting changes. Your up-to-date A / V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more information, see:

And backup often.

  • Outlook Express stops when you select a particular email

I received two emails from Emirates on 12/13/2011. On the selection either of these messages, a blank page appears momentarily in the message window, and then I get an error window saying that Outlook Express has encountered a problem and needs to close. The Microsoft error window notification appears, I agree. I'm unable to remove these messages and they are constantly reported in the form of unread messages in the Inbox.

Check: File | Work offline and in: reviews | Layout: uncheck the preview pane. Can delete you it now? If this isn't the case, follow these steps.

Move all the messages you want to save to a local folder, you create without touching the corrupted message and then delete the Inbox as follows.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.

In Windows XP, Win2K & Win2K3 the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder Options icon | Opinion, or in Windows Explorer. Tools | Folder options | View.

With OE closed, find the box of Inbox.dbx and delete it.  A new Inbox will be created automatically when you open OE.

You must register or message store corruption and you certainly have interference from antivirus software.  For the latter, see www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 .  To resolve the problem, go to file | Identities and establish a new identity.  This will give you a new registry hive and a new bank messages.  Once this works very well, and then click file | Import | Messages and you can import them from the old identity.

  • Outlook express does not

I use Windows XP with Internet Explorer 8 and Outlook express 6. Until 10 days ago everything worked very well. Then everything changed. Now, Outlook Express starts to load up and "authorising officer" appears on the bottom of the screen, as if the messages are subject to download but nothing happens. Some of the icons show also in grey the usual colors. I can't access anything that it is - old stored records or addresses and cannot create messages. When I click on any tab, the words "not responding" appear alongside Outlook Express on the top of the screen.  I close the program using ctrl/alt/del and report the error to Microsoft, but nothing has been resolved.

Everyone else has had a similar problem please?  Is this a Microsoft problem or has my computer developed a fault?

    Help/advice would be much appreciated.

  • Microsoft Outlook Express 6 stops responding

    Problems Outlook 6

When you try to close Outlook 6, my computer crashes. The error message pops up saying encountered send problem error report. I have to constantly click on the end button and now ends the answer no window. How can I stop this happening?

A version of Outlook? Or Outlook Express 6? If OE, try a new identity.

When I click on anything it either in the Outlook Express Preview window to stop answer and I have use the ctrl-alt-del combination for her all over again. Anyone out there have the same problem? If so what did you do about it.

Original title: I'm under Oulook Express 6 Windows XP Home SP3 environment.

    Bruce:

The problem has been fixed (I think) but in a most unusual way. Let me explain.

When I was closing down to give the computer a rest yesterday, there was a pop up saying that vprotector expected to close. He really wanted the process of closing until I clicked on finish the process. Curious to know what vprotector is, I searched on the net and got a lot of shots, saying: it is a virus and should be deleted pronto. So I searched the hard drive for the vprot. * and found in the folder program files for AVG!

I then went to AVG to see if it's really a part of AVG and they said yes. If there is a problem with vprot, the toolbar is at fault and needs to be reinstalled. There was one click here to download and run the part of the program to fix the problem. However, I had WebRoot antivirus running that stopped the download of this program as a virus. Because I trust AVG, I've disabled WebRoot and reinstalled the AVG search bar.

I haven't restarted WebRoot and computer flying along as it should, and OE is the link to IE when I click on a link as it has always done.

Seems to me to be the faulty AVG toolbar and a cross with two virus programs upward was at fault. Thank you for your time. Your reply gave me a chance to think differently this problem could arise.

Computers are really complicated machines and we have to be complicated to deal with their problems.

    Thanks again,

    Fred

  • Outlook express is to steal my bigpond email inbox emails, how do I stop this?

I have an e-mail (Telstra) Bigpond account and somehow outlook Express (OE) has been set up under the default display.

My emails will appear in Bigpond for a few days and then completely disappear and then appear in OE.

I don't want to have what is happening, I want to keep my emails in the Bigpond email account and stop using OE or disable so that continues to steal emails. Is there a way to do it, and I can all the old emails back across to the Bigpond account move?

Outlook Express cannot run all on its own.  YOU must start it.  ERGO, if you do not want to read e-mail with Outlook Express, simply do not run.

If you can't refrain from starting, remove the mail account of it.  If you do not want to do it again, then change the settings for the account to leave a copy of messages on the server.
