Outlook Express wants to compact files several times per day
I deleted most of my Deleted messages and sent folders and I greeted the OE to go through the process of compaction, but happens several times a day and it's driving me crazy! I went into the Maintenance tab under Tools, but it doesn't seem to be a solution. I have to save at least 3 months of messages in these files for commercial purposes. What can I do to prevent it from appearing?
Compacting does not delete messages, only the space wasted. If you don't lose messages, it's either because of damaged files or disrupt the process of compaction.
If you compacted it completed successfully, and you see the prompt earlier that 100 closures of OE, then see if you have Windows search installed. If you do, you need to tell Windows Search to stop indexing OE.
In the control panel. Indexing Options. Change. Clear the check box for Outlook Express.
If you have lost messages during compaction, see this.
Two reasons the most common for what you describe is disruption of the compacting process, (never touch anything until it's finished), or bloated folders. More about that below.
Why OE insists on compacting folders when I close it? :

Recovery methods:
If you use XP/SP2 or SP3, and are fully patched, then you should have a backup of your dbx files in the Recycle Bin (or possibly the message store), copied as bak files.
To restore a folder bak on the message store folder, first find the location of the message store.
Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.
In Windows XP, the .dbx files are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in the Solution Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder options | View.
Close OE and in Windows Explorer, click on the dbx to the file missing or empty file, then drag it to the desktop. It can be deleted later once you have successfully restored the bak file. Minimize the message store.
Open OE and, if the folder is missing, create a folder with the * exact * same name as the bak file you want to restore but without the .bak. For example: If the file is Saved.bak, the new folder should be named saved. Open the new folder, and then close OE. If the folder is there, but just empty, continue to the next step.
First of all, check if there is a bak file already in the message. If there is, and you have removed the dbx file, go ahead and rename it in dbx.
If it is not already in the message, open the trash and do a right-click on the file bak for the folder in question and click on restore. Open the message store up and replace the .bak by .dbx file extension. Close the message store and open OE. Messages must be in the folder.
If messages are restored successfully, you can go ahead and delete the old dbx file that you moved to the desktop.
If you have not then bak copies of your dbx files in the Recycle Bin:
DBXpress run in extract disc Mode is the best chance to recover messages:
http://www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/default.aspx
And see:
http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#4
A general warning to help avoid this in the future:
Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They finally are damaged. Create your own folders defined by the user for mail storage and move your mail to them. Empty the deleted items folder regularly. Keep user created folders under 300 MB, and also empty as is possible to default folders.
Disable analysis in your e-mail anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that devours the CPUs, slows down sending and receiving and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs, account setting changes and has even been responsible for the loss of messages. Your up-to-date A / V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more information, see:

And backup often.

Outlook Express wants to compact my messages whenever it ends. How do I stop this?
Outlook Express wants to compact my messages whenever it ends. How do I stop this?
I advise all to first understand what is happening and then decide how best to treat for your environment:
If you are talking about a message that says:
To free up disk space, Outlook Express can compact messages. This can take up to a few minutes.
Automatic compaction of Outlook Express files was introduced in Service Pack 2.
If you are using Windows XP, there is a registry value called:
Compact Check Count
It is located in the registry for a key that looks like this:
\Software\Microsoft\Outlook Express\5.0 HKCU\Identities\ {51909A0B-63EE-4EB3-A9A2-7CFA23C1ADCF}
Whenever you leave OE (not when you open it), the value of the counter increases by an increment (increment is not a verb so you can't increment something and a counter cannot be incremented). When the value of the counter gets to 101, the next time you close OE asked you to compress messages.
There are two things that will increase the value of the counter.
Exit from Outlook Express will increase the value of the counter.
If you have Windows Desktop Search installed, it will increase the counter every time it works which is usually at least at each reboot.
If you use Outlook Express, and Windows Desktop Search, the counter will be increased more frequently — whenever you close Outlook Express and whenever Windows Desktop Search launches when you restart.
Even if you are not using Outlook Express and only using Windows Desktop Search, which will further increase the count, so when the counter gets to 100, Windows Desktop Search will prompt you to compress messages during the next reboot.
This is because Windows Desktop Search is configured by default to search for the Outlook Express database if you are using OE or not.
No matter how the counter is increased, if you use at least one of these two, eventually you will see this message appear sooner or later. But you can stop it when you understand.
You can compress data when prompted (which resets the counter to 0).
You can change the registry and reset the counter to hand to buy some time until you see the message again.
If you do not use Outlook Express and only using Windows Desktop Search you can tell Windows Desktop Search to never watch the Outlook Express database (or uninstall the Windows Desktop Search if you do not use).
To remove the Option of Windows Desktop Search index to the database of Outlook Express follow these steps:
Click Start, settings, Control Panel, Indexing Options, change, clear the box Outlook Express, OK, OK, to save the settings and reboot the system so that the changes will be effective.
After the Outlook Express recommended for use (which would include the normal database maintenance) will prevent you from seeing the message in the first place. If you see the message that you might want to reconsider how you use Outlook Express and the risks of data store corruption of occasional or misuse (risk behaviours).
Most people using Outlook Express or Windows Desktop Search agree just remove the indexing Option in Windows Desktop Search and keep the meter that is built into Outlook Express so that they will remind to compact the database from time to time. If you had to sort of do not maintain your Outlook Express files, it would be risky for your messages.
Here is an article with some other information:

Why have I not Outlook Express wanting to compress files?
I can't find Outlook Express in my Add / Remove programs as I believe that I deleted it from my computer because of conflicts with Outlook 2003. Lately, I have a pop up message saying that Outlook Express can compress the files. How to remove or delete it from my computer because I don't have Outlook Express on my count. It's a Sony XP with all the latest updates etc.
Outlook Express would never vanish "because of conflicts with Outlook." These two programs have nothing in common, and we don't even know the other exists. Your question should be posted on a forum for Outlook Express: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/networking-windows_xp?page=1

Firefox crashing several times per day
Sometimes, when I am trying to load a page (no matter if I just navigate in a Web site, opening a new tab/window, or by train to load a Web site for the first time) firefox will crash just completely. Here's my last five accidents reports:

Any help would be greatly appreciated because at this rate, I'll have to switch to Chrome to save my sanity. I don't really like chrome, but at least chrome does not crash all the time on me.
Until I uninstalled firefox and then reinstalled, I double checked my modules and programs and found "Good companion" as an add-on and a program. I looked and it's apparently malware, so I uninstalled. Since then, Firefox broke down and it's been three days that I got rid of him. Before, Firefox broke several times a day.

How do I set a reminder that reminds several times per day
How to set a reminder that reminds several times a day as three times for the same drug? is this possible?
No, not with the native application of reminders. You can see the app store, however. You might also consider to use the alarm in the clock application.

MBP is overheating and I have to restart several times per day
Hello
My MBP is overheating, slowing to a crawl, and I have to restart several times a day (which may or may not help the issue).
The machine is:
MacBook Pro (retina, 13 inches, end of 2013)
2.4 GHz Intel Core i5
DDR3 4 GB 1600 MHz
No expandable RAM (which is beyond me why they would make a non-expandable machine. I discovered after I bought it).
During the day I am running:
Mail application (with very complete box - this might be a contributing factor? Can I archive the emails registered)
Safari (with different tabs open, sometimes a lot sometimes just)
Messages
EverNote
Chrome (with different tabs open, sometimes a lot sometimes just)
... and from time to time, but not always:

I'm not game. I'm not streaming video. After a few hours of use, several times a day (often 2-4 times just one afternoon) the machine slows to a crawl and I reboot, which may or may not solve the problem of the speed and the heat.
I ran the activity monitor utility, and there are applications that I do not sometimes recognize using 11 to 18% of CPU (bird and soangent). Anyone know what here?
Thanks for all the ideas. I bought this MBP in June. It was the refurb decision-making, where I got all my Macs over the past ten years. It is the worse of them.
Thank you.
Bird and soagent are the normal processes of Apple. Bird is one of the procedures used with the synchronize documents iCloud. soagent is used in conjunction with the Messages. In normal circumstances or will require an excessive amount of time processor. If you use Messages with a Google or other account not Apple (in other words, not exclusively iCloud) poor performance could be correlated with these accounts.
In any event 11-18% seems a bit much for me. Try to uninstall Evernote as well as all Google products. Or the other could possibly conflict with push social agent and / or document the Apple process synchronization. Google is disinterested or impossible to implement effective OS X apps.
Try to remove all accounts non - Apple Messages, but also completely remove Google from your Mac. You can always reinstall it and Evernote once again after a repair. Your data Google and Evernote is stored on their servers. Back up your Mac in any case, as a precaution.
Mail application (with very complete box - this might be a contributing factor? Can I archive the emails registered)
Perhaps. "Comprehensive" is relative. Some people keep dozens or even hundreds of thousands of e-mail messages. The practical limits of some Mail are, I don't know.
4 GB is perfectly adequate to run El Cap on a MBP of the retina. It would be premature to suspect material deficiencies, but products Google will introduce a new Mac, regardless of its configuration.
Run Apple Hardware Test to confirm that your exhaust fan MBP works normally. Apple Hardware Test is for Macs produced before June 2013. Later Macs use Apple Diagnostics.

Hi Julie,
Looks like you found a kernel panic, and they are more and more frequent. There is a great article here that should help you determine if this is something you can troubleshoot I would recommend that you take a look:
Thank you for using communities of Apple Support.

Y550 BSOD / reboot several times per day
At first, I thought I had problems with a recent update of the MS software, but now I'm leaning towards maybe (?) I have some hardware issues (hypothesis!).
After a brief search, I ran memtest on my Y550, but one that is transmitted without any problems. In fact, in these last days, I notice that my Y550 will crash and reboot several times a day.
Here's what I can find in memory.dmp that I * think * may be useful (?).

Mail crashes several times per day
Two questions.
1 mail blocks 5 - 10 times a day. Two things I noticed, it's: my junk mail will not empty and most of the spam is my gmail account. I can't erase my Junk folder and it always comes back to the unread state, with the blue dot on the front. Number of emails are a server, which brings me to the next question.
2 How can I block an entire server?
Thank you
Try to connect directly to your Gmail account within a web browser and permanently delete your junk mail.
Open Mail in SafeMode, now Shift while clicking on the icon of the Mail application.
In the toolbar, go to the mailbox > rebuild.
Leave Mail rebuild (this may take a while).

Your report form given above.
Kernel panics are often caused by out-of-date software / drivers.
First remove the Chuck to its flower > Uninstall Soundflower
This pilot because of the panic of the kernel for many Mac users as indicated according to the results of a search of communities to Support Apple here.
Restart your Mac. If it generates a different kernel panic, visit the Web site where you downloaded the software pace and are looking for the instructions to uninstall. Ditto for the VBS drivers.

PIX 515E, 7.2 (1), restarts randomly several times per day
Hello
We have a PIX 515E race 7.2 (1) that reboots randomly. It has happened 4 times this morning and has been for several days.
There is no significant syslog messages prior to the restart of the box. Monitoring CPU and memory usage shows nothing ununusual.
No failover and without VPN. Pretty basic config, a flow low traffic.
I've attached the crashinfo file - I looked through and it is meaningless to me.
Someone at - it an idea?
see you soon
Chris
The inspect esmtp is causing your ASA crashing. See: CSCse41795

Crashing several times per day
After the update a few days ago, Firefox has started breaking more than once a day. I could just use Facebook or something sudden and it crashes... Maybe it has something to with Java?
I looked your accident report, see this bug report: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=640904
And especially the #31 comment: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=640904#c31
Try with Ant Video Downloader disabled. Also, try with FF in safe mode. If hangs stops, one of your add-on is guilty. -

I do not see the plugin container in the task manager of Windows since the last update of Firefox and now FF freezes several times per day (since the previous update, before yesterday). It takes several minutes after that I see this until it thaws, and it is faster the "end task" and restart Firefox to wait. This most often seems to happen when the computer has been idle for a certain time, rather than when I use it.
Be sure to let the process of plugin-container in the firewall.
