Outlook Express will not let me delete emails that I receive.

Outlook Express will not let me delete emails that I receive.

Spend most of your messages out of the Inbox, if you can and move the messages you want to record off deleted items, and sent items. Locate the OE message store and then close OE.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.

In Windows XP, Win2K & Win2K3 the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder Options icon | Opinion, or in Windows Explorer. Tools | Folder options | View.

With OE closed, find the Deleted Items.dbx and Sent Items.dbx files and delete them. New files will be created automatically when you open OE.

Compact all folders as described below.

To avoid this in the future:

Do not archive mail in the receipt or sent items box. Create your own user-defined folders and move messages you want to put in them. Empty the deleted items folder daily. Although the dbx files have a theoretical capacity of 2 GB, I recommend all a 300 MB max for less risk of corruption.

Information on the maximum size of the .dbx files that are used by Outlook Express:
http://support.Microsoft.com/?kbid=903095

After you're done, followed by compacting your folders manually while working * off * and do it often.

Click Outlook Express at the top of the the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work offline (or double-click on work online in the status bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed.

Disable analysis in your e-mail anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that devours the processors and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs and account setting changes. Your up-to-date A / V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more information, see:

  • Outlook express 6 will not let me delete emails

    I can't delete emails from my Inbox on my outlook file Express 6. I can read them and then they show that I have, however none will remove.

    [I swear to you that I had already answered in this post!]

    1. move all the messages that you want to keep out of the folders Inbox, sent items and deleted items and in other local OE folders have created you for archiving (backup) of such messages.

    2. Note the location of the store of your identity (http://www.insideoe.com/files/store.htm#storemain).

    2B. turn on "Show hidden folders and files" via start | Control Panel | Folder options | View (see http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial62.html).

    3. close OE.

    4. in Windows Explorer, navigate to your storage folder, find & delete the files Inbox.dbx , Outbox.dbx, Sent Items.dbxand Deleted Items.dbx.

    5 empty the trash.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    To avoid such problems in the future, comply with the following restrictions:
    N ' not use Inbox or sent items to archive messages.  Move them to local folders created for this purpose.
    -Empty the deleted items folder daily.
    -Frequently perform a manual compact of all OE while records that "work offline".  More on http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm
    -Do not cancel automatic compacting, where it would happen and do not try to close OE via Manager tasks or stop your Automatic compaction machine can take place.
    -Disable e-mail scanning in your antivirus application.  It can cause corruption (i.e., loss of messages) and offers no additional protection:
    I have adobe Premiere elements 13. It will not let me delete audio or do fade in or out. I can move the yellow to the bottom line until the volume reads - 0.0, but the noise is still there during playback. I can click on fade in and fade out and the yellow line that chart volume takes a strong recovery or dip at the beginning or at the end of the clip, but there is no change in volume when I play back. What I am doing wrong?
    Thanks for the follow-up report.
    Just a lit bulb. Maybe the answer, maybe a spleen.
    Look carefully at the audio track of the timeline in the vicinity of title of the file.
    The title of your file audio timeline shows: level of Volume or something else. If something else, click the tiny triangle where
    the red arrow in the screen shot is sharp and select the Volume and then level so that you end up with
    Volume: level as shown in the screenshot.
    Hope it's the factor involved.
  • Oulook Express 6 it has an error and will not let me delete the email
    Original title: OUTLOOK EXPRESS 6 WINDOWS XP
    There out wrong and won't let me delete the email.  He still receives new e-mail.
    no problem viewing or respond.
    Anyone know an easy solution?
    the error code:
    An unknown error has occurred. Account: name, Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, secure (SSL): no, error number: 0x800C0133
    Do as I have indicated above, but instead of moving most of the messages in your Inbox, all move them and delete the Inbox.dbx file as well.
    If you move all messages from the Inbox for a reason, do the above and then come back and move messages in the Inbox and then delete the Inbox.dbx with OE closed box.
    This is due to floating files, the result of many messages in the Inbox, or lack of compaction.
    Move all messages you want to save out of the Inbox, deleted items, and sent items in local folders, you create. Locate the OE message store and then close OE.
    If there is no message in the Inbox you want to, but can not move after return, before doing anything more.
  • My outlook express will not delete some e-mail, how to fix this?
    I tried to remove a few emails and it won't let me.  I was able to move it to the junk e-mail folder, but not delete it.  I also can't just delete it in the junk e-mail folder.  Any ideas?
    First of all, OE doesn't have a native junk folder. However, I assume that you have the damaged dbx files.
    Spend most of your messages out of the Inbox and move the messages you want to record off deleted items, and sent items. Locate the OE message store and then close OE.
  • Outlook express will not send emails, but will receive. (see the error message below)
    I get the following error message:
    The connection to the server has failed. Account: ' pop - server.tampabay.rr.com', server: ' smtp - server.tampabay.rr.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, secure (SSL): no, Socket error: 10060, error number: 0x800CCC0E
    My ISP watched my settings via remote access and all settings are correct.  They think it's a problem with outlook express.
    I looked through this and other forums.  My AV is not set to scan outgoing emails.
    My AV is not set to scan outgoing emails.
    1. Is it simply to start?
    2. What AV program is installed?
    3. Analysis of the e-mail never activated?
    If 1 & 3 are Yes, then I would suggest you completely remove your AV program and then reinstall it. Do and choose custom installation and remove from the analysis when he he offered e-mail messages. More often than not, disable it fair analysis of e-mails is not good enough.
  • IE9 mounted; Everythings seems to work okay, but outlook express will not download pictures on my emails. is there a link?
    get out has been requilring you click a button to download the images coming in when opening an email.  This button is not displayed and the images are not displayed in newsletters, etc.
    so, dave and Divic, I just remembered!  I thought about all the boxes with the little red exes in them... I have the solution!  why it happened, I don't know, but fixed it!  [I am senile that part of the time - I'm just aging, being widely exceeded my 03:20 and 10] I have had this my ' puter tips produce for years and have not had to use it.
    One of the main areas where people can see the red X's in their email. If you use Outlook Express and have problems to see pictures in your email, open it and go to Tools, Options and choose the Security tab make sure the box "block images and other external content in HTML e-mail" is unchecked. Now, if you send an e-mail message and people are complained to you in the pictures does not show up, try this: open OE and go to Tools, Options, tab to send . Under the Mail Sending Format section, make sure that HTML is selected, and then click the HTML settings button. From there on, check the box "send pictures with messages" is checked. That should solve all your problems of mail.
    You can also go to the control panel. Internet options, then on IE set as a default value, to fix it.
