Hi JeanNU
I hope you thought of it now - if not - the key is to install the update to Windows Media Player by using Internet Explorer security using the "Run as Administrator".
This by doing a right click on Internet Explorer and choosing the "run as Administrator" mode.
Then open this page:
http://drmlicense.one.Microsoft.com/Indivsite/en/indivit.asp
and choose the upgrade option.

I got information on how to do it here:

  • Windows Media Player 11 - DRM with OverDrive Media Console problem

I have WMP 11 installed on my laptop and Windows XP Professional.  When I try to download Audobooks of the public library using Overdrive Media Console software, I get the following error:

Error 0xC00D2751: A problem has occurred in the digital rights management component.  Contact Microsoft technical support.

I also noticed that when I click on the OverDrive Media Console software, the system information section States the following: "version of Windows Media Player DRM: .

I'm used to be able to listen to these audio books using the OverDrive Media Console, and Windows Media Player software.  Why I get this message now?  I would add that I recently had my laptop computer upgraded to a newer version that is different.  Can this be part of the problem?  How can I fix it?  Thank you.

This is because the ProgramData folder exists only under Windows Vista/7. To reset the DRM system, follow the instructions at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929642 (article mention Zune, but can be applied in more general cases too). Tim Baets

  • How to get Windows 8 to open the documents in software installed for example the Overdrive Media Console software

I have a new Dell Inspiron running Windows 8.1.  I also loaded from office of Overdrive Media Console.  When I go to my library and select an audiobook and click on 'Download' the system asks me if I want to open it or save it to a location.  In the past, under XP, the system just open Overdrive Media console and downloaded this application.  Why 8.1 don't let me do the same thing?

Which varies a little on the browser you use.

    For Internet Explorer

When you click on the download link of file like this link here, you will be greeted with a prompt like this.  Click on Open and the file should open in the program, so that it is associated with.

    For Chrome

Chrome saves the file first, before giving you the choice to run it. Then click on the link (and choose a backup location if you have not defined a default value), then when it is done downloading, click on the file in the Chrome icon to launch (it will also start using the associated program)

You can have a default download location too. If worry of browsers allow you to choose the default download manager download location.  That, itself, all is Ctrl + J in both browsers.

  • the upgrade of my safety for OverDrive Media Console, win 8

When I went to http;//drmlicense.one.microsoft.con/indivisite to try and upgrade my safety for OverDrive Media Console, the update button was shaded grey and I can't access it.  I have Windows 8.  I am trying to download a digital book.  I see that e.lake8 has the same question.  Pipolo answered but when I tried it I do not have these screens, just a screen with a single button that was not available.  Thank you

    Hi Susan,.

Have you tried to open Internet Explorer as an administrator and see if you can upgrade the DRM license?

If you have not tried, then try to open the link by following the steps below.

    http://drmlicense.one.Microsoft.com/Indivsite/en/indivit.asp

    a. make sure you close all the Internet Explorer Windows and media player when you try the link and the steps provided here.

    b. open Internet Explorer rights grants administrator and copy and paste the link below.

    c. you can try to right click on Internet Explorer icon and choose 'Run as administrator' and try to open the link.

If the previous step fails, I suggest you disable the firewall and check if that helps. If you have any third-party security firewall, you can check with the user manual to do the same thing.

Note: Turn on the firewall once you have completed troubleshooting.

If the problem persists, you can also go through the steps and check if it helps.

    a. When you are connected to the Internet, open OverDrive Media Console software.

    b. go in Tools > Windows Media Player Security upgrade.
A dialog box will appear, informing you that Windows Media Player requires a security update to read content protected by DRM.

    c. click "OK" in the dialog box.
Windows Media Player opens and the 'Windows Media Player' dialog box is displayed.

    d. click 'Upgrade' to download and install the required security component.
Windows Media Player indicates that it is "connection to the server. Once connected, the security component is downloaded and installed. Windows Media Player indicates that the safety component has been upgraded successfully.

    e. click the 'Close' button in the 'Windows Media Player' dialog box.
The 'Media usage rights Acquisition' dialog box is displayed.

    f. click the 'Play' button in the 'Media usage rights Acquisition' dialog box to complete the upgrade.
Windows Media Player plays a short file, confirming that you have completed the upgrade.

    g. click the 'Cancel' button to close the 'License Acquisition' dialog box If you wish, you can also close Windows Media Player at this time.
You have completed the Windows Media Player Security Upgrade.

You can browse the article which contains information about the digital rights management. Here is another article on the OverDrive Media Console software.

Hope the above information is helpful.

  • DRM with Overdrive Media Console error message

I have a HP pavilion dv5230ca laptop, under XP (SP3) with Wi - Fi and purchased in August 2006.  I would like to listen to audio books through our online library.  To do this, I downloaded the Overdrive Media Console application that is required.  When I perform the Windows Media Player Security Upgrade, which is required before any audio books can be downloaded on my computer, I get an error message: "this is a problem to retrieve the identification of digital rights management machine.  Contact Microsoft technical support.  When I go on the Microsoft site, it says if it is a software problem and the computer was purchased with the software already installed, and then contact the manufacturer (HP).  Before talking to someone at HP, I checked in your forum, but there seems to be no reference to my specific problem.

The only info I can add is that this laptop had an accident in 2007 and we took it to a professional to be restored.  Everything went well with it, except for this problem.  (I can't tell if this problem would have occurred before the accident that I tried to access the audio books so far).

I'd appreciate any help you can provide. Thank you

I found a solution to my problem.  I find the DRM folder on my computer (it is a hidden file, so first go to windows Explorer, tools, folder, view tab options, is selected * Show hidden files *, deselected * Hide protected operating system files).  Then to C/documents and settings / all users, and there it was.  Renamed * DRM.old* then through the procedure to update the Windows Media Player Security Update in the Overdrive Media Console software and update was successful and was able to download audio books immediately.  I hope this helps others.

  • Windows Media Player 12 DRM Security Upgrade 2.5.0.1

GOOD NEWS for anyone trying to upgrade Windows Media Player 12 DRM security (if any)!

If you have, as me, the way to http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/indivsite/en/indivit.aspsite. Discover the button upgrade is grayed out, and remains Gray, EVEN after trying to reset your DRM settings (which, if your computer came preloaded with Windows 7, your computer turns on all the HAL 2000 on you and refuses to let you do), try the following:

First of all, make sure that you run Internet Explorer as an administrator (don't ask me why it's necessary, but it is):

    1. Left click on the Windows Explorer icon,
    2. Left click on all programs,
    3. Scroll down for OverDrive Media Console Software folder, click to the left to show what programs are in the folder
    4. Right-click on the icon of the OverDrive Media Console software in the folder of the OverDrive Media Console software
    5. In the drop-down menu, choose 'Troubleshoot Compatibility' in the menu dropdown.
    6. Choose "Troubleshoot program" on the page "select the Troubleshooting Options.
    7. Select "program requires additional permissions" on the page "what problems have you noticed?
    8. Click 'Next' (Note: in page 'Test compatibility settings for the program', section 'Settings applied', your user account control must show "Run as administrator.")
    9. Click on the "Start the Program" button on the page "Test compatibility settings for the program."
    10. Click on the button "Yes" when asked "Do you want to allow this [OverDrive Media Console] program to make changes to this computer?"

The computer will then take you to the internet.

    1. Go to http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/indivsite/en/indivit.asp. page,
    2. Find tools in the menu topline bar,
    3. Select "Compatibility view" drop the menu drop-down (if the upgrade button is dimmed, outside, on the page, there should be an icon of page damaged next to this item).
    4. This will bring up a text box labeled "add this site:  If "microsoft.com" is not yet entered in this box, you want to do.  Click on the button Add to the right of the text box, and then click the close button. *
    5. The upgrade button should now be black and update of Windows Media Player 12 DRM 2.5.0.1 security should apply when you click on it.  (Note: If the upgrade is successful, when you click on the Windows Media Player Security Upgrade tools in the menu of the Overdrive Media Console software program, he will tell you that your version of Windows Media Player security upgrade is 2.9.0.1)  Don't ask me why he didn't tell 2.5.0.1)

I won't tell you how many days and hours spent combing the Internet for the answer to this problem, but I will say that all the instructions I found to reset my DRM and my user account controls - both the links I followed OverDrive Media: site and sites support Microsoft - did not help.  I was also disappointed to find out that Dell, who sold me my Alienware Aurora R4 for 7 months ago, could not help me with this problem because even if they have installed the software, it is not covered by the warranty.  (They would be happy to sell me a software warranty for $230 / year, however.) Microsoft could not help me - unless I agreed to pay $100 first - because I have not bought the software directly from them.

Please, if you try this and it doesn't work, please post a reply.  I'm sure I have listed all the steps I took and if I missed all that I want to correct this post with the steps / missing information.  I don't want ANYONE feeling too frustrated that I was trying to get this problem is resolved.

    * Please note the new information added in step 4 on 09/12/2014.

I, too, did any proposed at each site to install this upgrade. The 'upgrade' button has never been grayed out, but after I click on it I get the error message "Windows Media Player has encountered a problem while playing the file." I don't play a file or music or whatever it is, just try to update the security settings, so I guess that the upgrade file is what is meant. I had a lot of hope for your correction! Any other suggestions?

    Debbie,

Just curious - when you went to the indivsite page, have you tried selecting compatibility view from the menu on the menu bar of topline drop-down tools before you click the upgrade button?  I know you said your button is not grayed, but perhaps he'll do before the upgrade can be applied.
If you have selected the compatibility view from the menu on the page indivsite drop-down tools until you click the upgrade button, do you have a digital one coded to go along with the error message error "Windows Media Player has encountered a problem reading the file'?  Please let me know. I have some other suggestions based on your response.

Yes, it is set to display all websites in compatibility view. And no, no digital error code comes up with the message. Either way, if it helps you, after I closed the error message button is grayed out and said "Upgrade Complete" But, no upgrade has been applied, it is always the version 2.5.0.0.

I could finally accomplish this task by running IE as an administrator and disable protected mode. Worked like a charm.

  • Can not read audio data on Windows media player with the Overdrive Media Console software

Title: protected audio not playing is not on windows media player 8

cannot get the Overdrive Media Console software to play nice with windows 8.  I get the error that should be upgraded the security of windows media player.

but when I go to the web page to make the upgrade, that it will not allow him.  I use http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/indivsite for the upgrade.

OverDrive Media Console tech gave me instructions to add http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/indivsite as a trusted site - did that, then disable "Protected Mode" - to do this, restart my laptop and it still I cannot improve security.

Can you help me?!!  Thank you!

Hi Vijay, I was in conversation with a technical support through my library on this problem.  They sent a lot of bugs yesterday but none of them worked either but today the found magic.

    Here it is:

running of IE as an administrator

    go to http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/indivsite/en/indivit.asp

Press F12 to enable Compatibility Mode

go to developer tools, and then click navigation Mode

Select "Internet Explorer 10 compatibility view

This will allow the button update to Windows Media Player

And now everything works fine!  Thanks, Vijay!

Are you having to provide updates through Windows Update?  If so, I suggest that you perform a clean boot , and then run Windows update.  If you continue to have a problem with a certain update you need to download and install it manually.  Alternatively, you can consider removing the Overdrive program and new test.
