P7-1490 Pavilion saying that the hard drive needs to be repaired or replaced

Could Netflix streaming on the computer and look at the poster on the monitor have shortened the life expectancy of the hard drive at all?  Otherwise, I do not use the computer that much, and I'm surprised that the drive lasted only 1 1/3 years.  What part of a computer using streaming more?  The processor, hard drive, both?

No, I sincerely doubt that the photos could cause such a problem.

If the drive is empty, do a full format (not quick format) to make it clean.

Just to be sure, it will be useful if you could do a bad sector scan.

Here is a link to help you with bad sectors.

When cross you again the problem, bring it to a HP service center and fix it.

Have a good!

  • Satellite M200 Vista shows that the HARD drive is full of 98%

This problem showed about 2 months ago the system started running slowly and after a bit of research, I went to computer and found he showed that the HARD drive was full of 98%. Then I went and disabled the feature of shadow copy that reached about 3 Gig. After that, the performance was still hurt, so I decided to do a system restore. All reformatted once was good again until a week ago, and the same problem came back once again.

This laptop is running Vista Home Premium SP1, 120 Gig drive HARD, Kaspersky Anti-virus, it has very limited connection to the Net, as it is mainly used to store and transfer music on an Ipod (20 GB of music).

Any thoughts? Maybe a hardware failure?

    Thanks in advance.

    Craig.

Hardware failure is very likely, since you are clearly able to access your hard disk without problem.
Looks like you are using software that could be gradually fill the hard drive with data, such as a log file, it is difficult to say.
With the erosion of the space, you might want to periodically check each folder in drive C (right click, properties) and see how it changes for each new session.

Also clean the temporary files would help such as for:

    "c:\temp".
    "c:\windows\temp".
    "%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temp.
erase internet files of Internet Explorer cache / temporary
deactivation and reactivation then "System Restore" (do this only if you are satisfied with Vista is running stable)

    Hello

Thanks for posting in the HP Support forum.

This message is an indication of a hardware problem - your hard drive (HDD) has been corrupted

This isn't a problem of Windows or software. Defective HARD drive needs to be replaced.

If your computer is still under warranty, you must consult and inform the HP support team. Contact them, let them know and check replacement options

    > > http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-phone-assist.html

    > > http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/contact.html

If your computer is NOT under warrantly, you will need to buy new drive HARD on your own OR buy new SSD.

    SSDS is highly recommended > > http://ocz.com/consumer/ssd-guide/ssd-vs-hdd

Good vendors include Samsung, Intel, OCZ, etc...

If you don't know how to replace it, you can check with friends online or make the computer to HP authorized service center, where the faulty part can be replaced (not that if the machine is not under warrantly, it may cost you a small fee).

  • My office wouldn't boot and I received a S.M.A.R.T. message that told me that the hard drive was bad. I changed the hard drive, but it is always the same. It is running windows zp.

My desktop computer running windows xp. It begins to start but stops and keeps trying to start. It does not start in safe mode or any other mode. I have mfoundm a message that says S.M.A.R.T. and told me that my hard drive was bad. I replaced the drive hard drive with another drive that has been loaded with xp but it stil is.

I think that the answer to the replacement hard drive is in your question.

I replaced the drive hard drive with another drive that has been loaded with xp but it stil is.

You can not take a hard drive that was in another computer when the Windows installation, place it in another computer and boot from it. You will get a boot loop. It will start to load Windows then suddenly, re - start. This will be repeated again and again. You must install Windows on the disk hard while it is in the computer that you intend to use it with.

  • Question about reinstalling windows on a laptop that came with it, but the hard drive failed and had to be replaced.

OK, until recently, the hard drive of my laptop couldn't, and I had to replace, no biggie, I really care about this laptop in any case. Then I threw ubuntu top and let it go from there. But recently, I wonder, if I could get windows again for her, for free. I am sure that it is not under warranty, but I could go and check of 90 percent. I have no back ups for it because it was cheap.

Devices with Windows 8 generally have incorporated in their BIOS product key and use the following tool to get the product key:

  • Replacing the hard drive and Recovery console repair turns into a nightmare of activation

I took the hard drive of a computer dell laptop is no longer used and put it in my current toshiba laptop (in which the hard drive was dead prior).

I had my laptop to accept the hard drive by using the recovery console and do a chkdsk with the repair option. After repairs the laptop now wants to be activated.

So now I use my laptop with a hard drive built to a dell computer. Of course, I uninstalled all the bloatware and replaced all the drivers with the right. the hard drive works fine with my laptop. This isn't the problem.

My problem is that windows will not activate. It is a genuine copy of windows xp home edition, purchased from dell. I got through all of the activation methods and they tell me that the installation id is invalid. I'm basically a big circle with phone support to web support.

If my product key is known to be valid for windows xp family when he was on the hard drive in the computer dell laptop, why is it not valid when traded to the computer toshiba laptop and why used someone help me with this problem. I can't be the only one that this has happened?

as a reminder, swapped a hardrive is no longer in use of the computer, a work computer. has ran chkdsk to fix disk errors, after reboot windows is enabled is no longer and requires activation. Activation Assistant will not accept the installation as id being valid and would call support, when I go to real profit online to activate it also error. How can I activate this well-known work product id? I'm not hacking because he is no longer in use, basically, I am on a windows xp home edition right now and nobody will help me.

    Thanks in advance

    Dan

The hard drive Dell has a "Dell" OEM of Windows XP version and a "Dell" product key (and might even be locked BIOS) that will not work on your Toshiba.

As with all versions once installed on a computer/motherboard OEM it cannot be moved to another PC.

    Hello

This backup after pressing F11 is a HP backup option, not a Microsoft option.

I suggest that you contact HP or ask their Support Forums.

It's the normal advice I'd give to record data; but we have no idea of the State of your hard drive.

    Saving your files:

You can remove the hard drive and put it in a hard drive USB enclosure > plug it into another computer > and try to read and copy your data in this way.

Or, you can download Knoppix > make a bootdisk to > start your system with it (IF your material is all work) > and copy your data from the hard drive like that.

Unfortunately, yours is one of the models where you have to take the laptop almost all path that starts to get hard disk. Do so would void the warranty. I'm a big advocate of the SSD, but in your case, the difficulties and probable spending cuts against the fact.

  • I replaced the HDD with SSD but Win 7 has always said that the HARD drive is inplace!

Everything else works fine. Error correction of the control panel says there is an error, but it did not fix it. 'Computer' shows still a 75 G HARD drive but the CPU is using my Samsung SSD 250 G 820. How can I change the C: drive in "Computer" to read my new SSD?

Before any thing let double check that you're not missreading disk management, disconnect your external drive and all other devices, re-booting, it starts?

    If it isn't

    Disconect all the external devices

    (1) if its a dvd win7 real victory dvd insert & re-booting, it starts from the dvd victory, early in the process if it detects remove them all partitions, then continue the installation using all the free space.

Then connect to the internet and allow windows updates important to do its thing, it may require several reboots and update runs.

Install your anti virus program, if a PC brand visit the site PC manufacturers and install drivers specific to win7 for your model, if a generic desktop computer, motherboard manufacturers site for their drivers.

Check the basic operation of the PC before going any further, if all OK just reinstall your media origonal programs.

If still OK connect the external drive and simply copies the data in different places of the library on the ssd.

    ---------------------

    (2) if it is a game of manufacturers PC recovery discs insert the cd & re - start, depending on what options that don't give CD a destructive restore (clean install)

After completion do not install anything, unless you use a disc of recovery of PC manufacturers and theres a separate utilities/drivers If yes drive use.

Then in management records check which is shown for drive 0 if it shows the space unallocated to the rt, C C: rt-click and select Extend Volume > type following in the unallocated total shown Mo > next > finish

Then connect to internet for the important updates to do its thing, then proceed as indicated in (1) except for the drivers

What is the E: drive? Hard drive? CD/DVD drive? Something else?

If it is a hard drive, it's a partition on your hard drive only or a

If it is a part, how big is it? How it is there? You did

    Hi michaelavatar,

Also, please try the following links to clear up space on the c: drive.  As temporary internet files, the windows system restore points, etc. These spaces as time will pass.  Restore points can take a lot of space as windows create more restore points.  Prior to links, always good to backup data and files first.

  • Replaced the hard drive, need help with drivers and utilities!

    Hello

Yesterday, I replaced my old hard drive with a new WD, and I reinstalled Windows Vista.  Everything goes fine until I jumped in the utilities and drivers (Resource CD) supplied with the laptop.  I guess I thought that the CD all the work, would do to reinstall all the necessary drivers and utilities...  Now I'm stuck with a laptop computer that cannot connect to the internet, and the screen is too big.  I don't know there is more wrong with my laptop than meets the eye.  On the CD of drivers & utilities there the list of drivers and some of them have check marks, others do not.  I tried following some online course on which those who/what order to upload, but I don't even have some recommended drivers on the Dell.com site (specific to my Inpiron 1545 model)!  I know that I could download them immediately the site, but I don't even have wifi to do.

In addition, I read the performance of a Dell Factory Image Restore and I tried it.  When I get the black screen with no option, I have to click on "Repair computer" but the option is not available either... I thought that maybe it would be an easy way to restore my laptop (readers and all) to the original settings.  Maybe the option is not there because my computer is practically empty, with nothing to restore? All I have on my laptop at the moment is Windows Vista 64 bits and drivers a couple that I don't know much.

Bit of help and advice would be great.
