Partition Time Capsule to back up 2 computers?

Can I partition a Time Capsule to save 2 wireless computers using Time Machine?

You don't need to (and cannot) partition. Just set up Time Machine on each computer normally.

  • Best way to put up the time Capsule as back-up only?

There seems to be a lot of discussion on this issue, but I can't seem to find one that tells me what I need to know...

    The goal

I'm trying to set up my Time Capsule to support my Mac Pro wireless, but do not use it as a router. My plan is to connect the TC to my router (which is in another room of Mac Pro) with an ethernet cable, and then for the first backup only connect the TC for the Mac Pro with a long ethernet cable. Once the first backup is complete I remove the cable Mac Pro and have the TC backup Mac Pro incrementally.

    The Situation

I tried setting up like this yesterday and it seemed to have worked, but returns support painfully slowly despite the ethernet connections. I don't know if the Mac seems to realize that it is connected to the TC with an ethernet cable - do I have to change any settings? It took 24 hours to save 200 GB and there is an another 400GO to go. He managed approximately 500 MB in the last 10 minutes. I have updated TC up as the router and the backup and I have never had any problems - I could easily back up the entire hard drive in a 24 hours period when it is connected with the ethernet before disconnecting and wireless backup. Could someone go through with me step by step how to configure this so I know that I just did?

    Thank you

    ID

P.S. The TC is in question is a 802.11n (2nd generation), 1 TB

As an update - if I turn off the WiFi, the connection to the TC is lost, then obviously the ethernet connection does not, and it's wireless backup, where the slow pace. Can anyone help?

  • How long backups stay them airport time capsule if I make my computers of restoration

I want to completely wipe my MacBook Pro and set it up as if new to it clear of files that I don't use often, but I want to keep these files on my Time Capsule airport.

Ive seen a lot of posts about how after a random time ATC (airport Time Capsule) automatically deletes files that are no longer on this computer that you backed up previously.

QUICK SUMMARY OF THE ISSUE: can I have factory restore my computer and leave my old files to my Time Capsule airport or do I have to connect an external drive to ATC?

    Thank you

    Firefox

Connect an external hard drive to your computer and put the files it contains. The files you want to keep should be at least two disks; You can fail at any time.

This can be done when the drive is connected to the time Capsule, but supported formats are more limited, and the process will be slower.

  • Can I use the Time Capsule wireless for multiple computers without using it as a router?

I am looking for an external backup for 2 computers drive.  I have a desktop iMac and MacBook Air.  I like the idea of being able to back up my MacBook Air wireless, but I need to make sure that it will work the way I need to.

I already have a wireless router that works well for me, I don't need the time Capsule to act as a router. I'm just needing a wireless backup drive.  So, the question is, can I use the only time Capsule as a storage device for backup of wifi or do I also have to use it as a wifi router?  My fear is that the router service is not as good as the router, I currently have.  I live in a big House of 2 floors, making it very difficult to receive a strong signal throughout the House.

can I use time Capsule only as a backup wireless storage device or do I also have to use it as a wifi router?

Time Capsule need to connect to your router/modem existing using wired Ethernet wired, permanent.

If you plan to use the time Capsule to back up your Mac with the help of the application Time Machine on every Mac, the Mac will have to save on the wireless signal Time Capsule for the process to be officially supported by Apple.

While it is possible to turn off wireless on the Time Capsule and try to save it to your existing wireless network... and it pourrait work... but there will be no Apple support backup problems... so it would be a good idea to plan to use Time Capsule wireless backup purposes.

  • I have 2 imacs and a laptop computer and you want to back up all three wireless via time capsule on my existing wifi network. If we can also use the time capsule as my wifi and replace my uverse wifi, that would be great. possible?

I have 2 imacs and a laptop computer and you want to back up all three wireless via time capsule on my existing wifi network. If we can also use the time capsule as my wifi and replace my uverse wifi, that would be great. possible?

If you want to make sure that you will be able to get the Apple support in case of problems or questions with your backups, you must use the wireless Time Capsule to back up your Mac.

As long as the time Capsule provides a wireless signal, you can decide who to your 'main' network, then use it wireless Uverse for "guest", or children. If you do not need the Uverse router/modem wireless at all, it is possible to turn off wireless on the device and make it work only as a support modem/router...with Uverse wired.

At this point, you can start thinking about how you want to configure things and get back in touch if you need some advice on how to do it.  We need to know what operating system that uses the Mac that you normally use to administer the time Capsule, provide good instructions, if you need it.

  • Mac Mail will constantly be disconnected with Time Capsule

It has been ongoing for more than a year: I the time Capsule AC version (bought fall 2014) and uses a Macbook (version slim retina released in March 2015.) 12 "I am constantly the mailbox in offline mode in the Mail from Mac application.  The status bar displays "Error of account" and when I click on the error box, it gives the following message:

    DRAW THE ATTENTION OF

There may be a problem with the mail server or the network.  Check the "iCloud" account settings or try again.

The server returned the error: connection to the server "p15 - imap.mail.me.com" on default ports has expired.

If I temporarily turn off Wifi and turn back on right, the error messages disappear and download new messages.  Everything works fine for a few hours, and then I start to see those! exclamation points! next to my mailbox.

Initially I thought it was a problem with the Macbook.  They did a replacement under warranty of the wifi module into the Macbook.  Still the same problem.  So yesterday, I noticed that my iMac 27 "retina is sometimes as well.  And also, it is fixed temporarily by activating / disabling wifi on and outside.

Interestingly, my business partner, who has the same version AC Time Capsule and retina macbook 12 "even I experienced the EXACT SAME SYMPTOMS in his house.  (Mailbox log in Mac app, remedied temporarily by activating / disabling wifi power).

It's to drive us both crazy.

Both have tried to remove the email accounts of our Macs and rebuild them.  Still the same problem.

Is there a problem of connectivity between the time Capsule AC and some Mac computers?  I do NOT notice the problem when I'm connected to all other routers in other locations and mobile.

If anyone has a thought on this, I would appreciate it a lot.  I am about to replace my Time Capsule with another brand of router in order to solve the problem, but all other routers are so ugly and I don't want some Darth Vader looking black thing with 8 antennas in my living room.

I assume that you are running the latest OS to el capitan?

The iMac is also updated for later?

El Capo had e-mail problems... so I assume also that you have updated to the latest patch.

Your experience with the laptop when you suggest that mobile are still correct... It is the TC at fault.

There are known problems happening... not universal, which is a shame because then it would be imposed on Apple to fix... but it is not uncommon.

I would recommend a reconfiguring of the TC... See the list below.

I understand your network a little better.

    1. what modem do you have? Brand and model please.

    2. your ISP using IPv6 or spend now?

    3. is the work of TC as main router or bridge? (The answer might be inherent in the 1st quarter, but if it is a modem router I need the exact details).

    4. is the modem, also located in your living room... If you run ethernet instead of modem, a router could be installed right next to the modem... and the TC has changed to the bridge? It can work perfectly as a WAP right and for the TM backup when you remove its role in the delivery.

Darth (breath in) Vader (exhale) Asus or Netgear router... which I suppose you don't not aesthetically... get to work extremely well.

Start from a factory reset. No files are lost on the drive hard in doing so.

    Universal factory reset

Turning off the TC... That is, remove the power supply cord or the power at the wall outlet, wait 10 seconds... Hold the reset button... be nice... Turn on always even now in reset... and keep holding in for another 10 seconds. You may need assistance because it is difficult to hold in reset and power on. It will show the success quickly flashing led front. Release reset... and wait a few minutes for the TC to reset and return with the factory settings. If the front LED flashes quickly you missed and simply try again. The reset is quite fragile in these... Press the key while it is just click away and not more... I've seen people bend lever or even break. I use a toothpick as a tool.

NB. None of your files on the hard drive of the TC are removed... This simply clears the settings of the router of the TC.

    The installer the TC.

And then redo the configuration of the computer with the Mavericks - Yosemite - ElCapo. (MYELCAP)

    1. the use of very short names... NO APPLE RECOMMENDED names. Without the space and pure alphanumeric characters.

for example TCgen5 for the base station and the name of the TCwifi wireless.

If the problem is using wireless TC24ghz and TC5ghz with fixed channels like this also seems to help stop school dropouts. (I recommend you do cela.. 2.4 ghz 11, 9, 5 GHz use 36 or 149)

    2. use all passwords also consistent with 1. but maybe a little longer. IE 8 and 20 characters of mixed cases and numbers... no alphanumeric non-caracteres.

    3. If the TC is router, you can ignore this point. It is only a problem when the TC is bridged.

If ensure that the TC is always the same IP address... you will need to do this on the main router using a dhcp reservation... or a bit more complex setup by using the static IP address in the TC. But it's important for deriving from intellectual property in all directions when MYELCAP do not remember his name for 5 min after a reboot done for poor network management.

    4. check that your share on the computer name does not change... (It was mostly from the Mavericks)

Make sure that it is also in line with the above... short without space and pure alphanumeric... but this change will mess up your TM backup... so be prepared to make a new, full backup. Sorry... keep this one for the second round, if you want to avoid a new backup.

5 attach the TC disc into the computer manually. (Expired for El Capo... just use Finder...) Connect the box below search)

In Finder, go, connect to the server in the main menu,

Type in SMB://192.168.0.254 (or whatever ip of TC is that you made static. It's a default router 10.0.1.1 and I encourage people to stick with it unless you know what you're doing).

You can use the name... SMB://TCgen5.local where you replace TCgen5 with your name of TC... local is the default domain of the TC and does not change.

However the names are not so easy as... the IP address nor reliable. They are not at least not in Yosemite. The field can also be a problem if you are not clogged or wireless directly to the Treasury Board.

    6. ensure that IPv6 is set to link-local only in the computer. (Depends on your ISP and if they moved to IPv6.. e.g. comcast).

For example wireless open network, wireless and Advanced preferences / TCP/IP... and the difficulty of IPv6. link-local only. Do the same for the ethernet if you use it.

In the TC configured only IPv6 local link... assuming you're on IPv4 yet.

It is very important with some ISPS like cox cable at this time.

It is a lot more jiggery pokery, you can try, but the above is a good start... If you still find not reliable... don't be surprised.

You may need to do more work on the computer itself. for example, to reset the NVRAM/PRAM/SMC... helped some people. A clean installation of the operating system is also useful if you update installed.

These changes could amount to little more... practical household good network... but I salute them as a starting point.

It's going to ruin your Time Machine configuration... So if you change the TC its location in the network name must be passed to TM... so open TM preferences and put the backup to the new location. TM will then say that he will make a new backup... once he starts, he will find the TC and original backups... check it out... and then do another differential... so no problem. If you are prompted to you want to use the old and new locations of backup just say a new.

  • Set Up airport to back up several computers in the small office

I'll put up a new Airport Extreme. I want 4-5 computers in a small office in each have separate backups only the device. How to configure?

We need to get some clarification please, in order to provide the right answers.

I'll put up a new Airport Extreme

The AirPort Extreme is a router only. You connect a USB hard drive to the USB port on the AirPort Extreme, if you want to backup the disk attached to the AirPort Extreme.

If you really wanted to say that you have an Airport Time Capsule... peripheral that is actually an AirPort Extreme with a built-in hard drive that could be used for backup purposes.

What device you ask here... an AirPort Extreme... or... an Airport Time Capsule?

I want 4-5 computers in a small office in each have separate backups don't unit

All of these computers must be Mac if you want each of them to properly back up using Apple's Time Machine backup applications.  Is this the case?

One more comment... While your plan may be OK for a very small office... the AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule are designed mainly for light home use... not professional use. Thus, it would be a good idea to have a backup plan additional for each computer.  In other words, you don't want to rely on a simple backup solution if Macs that will be backed up data are valuable to you.

For example, say you use a Time Capsule to back up each of the Mac at the office.  If the time Capsule has a serious problem, you'll probably lose all backups of all Macs at the office.

In this regard, the faster and more reliable backup type would be to have a hard drive connected directly to each Macs at the office... then you might have a double backup system.  Mac could automatically back up to a Time Capsule for example, and also on the hard drive that is connected directly on the Mac.

Here the essential to have a solid plan to backup... ask yourself what would happen if the drive you use for backups at this point failed. Because it goes... you don't know when.

  • Time Capsule loses connection to the internet every day

I have a time Capsule airport of 5th generation TB 3 (802.11 AC, A1470).  For the past year, I lost the connection Wireless to the internet once a week or more.  In recent weeks, he has taken place more frequently and often now also 3 - 4 times / day.  During the internet cut, the light on the Time Capsule still green watch, but none of my devices are able to get to the wireless (3 iPhones, iPod Touch, iMac and 2 MacBook Air, Bose Speaker).   I can restore internet connectivity by cutting and then by restarting the power of the time Capsule.    All phones and computers are running the latest software updates.  Airport Time Capsule is running 7.7.3

We do not know if you have a service provider problem, a problem of modem or a matter of Time Capsule.

Provider number... check with your service provider to ask them if they are experiencing loss of momentary service due to new installations of equipment on their service. They will most certainly say that their service was perfect and the problem lies elsewhere, but it does not hurt to check.

Modem question... If the modem loses its connection to the service from the provider, even just for a moment, then the Internet will go down and the time Capsule which landed.  Unfortunately, there is no easy way to test the modem.  All you can do is connect a computer directly to the modem for a few days and check the connection from time to time to see if it fell.

If so, this indicates that you that you might have a problem with the son of Internet that come into your home to the wall outlet, if you do not want your provider to send a technician to check and test the line to come in your House.

If the wiring checked out OK, then you may have a problem of modem and the modem will probably be replaced... regardless of his age. If the modem is more than 4-5 years old, then it really must be replaced at this point.

If you have not replaced the Ethernet cable from the modem in a few years, it would be a great time to do this.  There are some modems that just don't get along well with Apple routers... Motorola 6121 SB, SB 6141 and SB 6183 come to mind.  What is the number and model of your modem?

Matter of Time Capsule... If there is no connection drops during your modem 2-3 days 'test' with a computer connected directly to the modem, then the time Capsule becomes the suspect.  About everything you can do in this case is to reset the device back to the default and then put settings in place again to see if this will help the issue. If you don't want to do it... and you have an Apple Store close to home... you can take the time Capsule to them and make them run tests on the Time Capsule.

As you can imagine, 99 times out of 100, no problem you will find when you take the Capsule in the Apple Store because the drops intermittent are by far the most difficult problem to resolve.

  • Parameter problem to the airport Time Capsule

Already, we currently have a WiFi system with a NetGear router and a modem from Time Warner.

I just want to use the airport Time Capsule to back up my Mac.  My husband has a PC.  I followed the instructions but the airport still comes up in the utility.

Mac OS X El Capitan 10.11.6 and the latest 802.11 ac 3 TB so I don't know what I'm doing wrong.  I plug an Ethernet cable at the airport, then in the Modem - nothing after I plug the power - Amber flashing light.  I have changed ports unplugged and plugged back in French - restart the Modem.  Nothing works.  I bought it so it would work straight out of the box - so far, I have spent a lot of time trying to understand it.

  • Initial backup, Time Capsule will not end.

I recently started to use my Time Capsule to back up my early 2014 MBA 13 '' again. However the initial backup will never end. The TC is not used as a Wi - Fi router; It is connected to the existing wireless network.

When I started having this problem initially. I erased the disc TC and more fresh and Time Machine, under System Prefs, told me that the backup has been chugging along just great. Well... now, after he had all of August to reach the end of time Machine always shows me "waiting for full first backup."

If I choose "save now" widget menu bar or if I let the system restart automatically backups TM shows Control Panel "backup x of x, XX, XX" and the second number continues to increase. The backup will never end.

I searched the Ko of Apple and these discussion forums and not found the answer. What can I do to make this backup finish?

    TIA.

The TC is not used as a Wi - Fi router; It is connected to the existing wireless network.

And that's probably the problem, because Apple does not officially support backups Time Machine to TB unless you use the wireless TC, or connect the Mac directly on the TC using a wired Ethernet cable connection.

Things can work with your existing wireless network, but it will be no help if it is not. Sometimes in situations like this, a Mac will back up OK wireless, and another Mac will have problems.

As you try to add 'new' backups 'old' backup, Time Machine can also have issues with this, try to compare the old and new files and get confused about what to keep and do not keep. In this case, the recommended solution would be to delete older backups of the MBA and then start again and try a new backup.

Wireless is never recommended for a first full backup. It's OK to use it, then much smaller incremental backups.

If you try this course the existing wireless you have and still have questions, other than to try to save on the wireless TC, on the only other option to try would be to connect the MBA directly to one of the LAN port <>- on the back of the TC using an Ethernet cable.  Since you have an MBA, who does not have an Ethernet port, you can buy a bolt of lightning for the Ethernet card.  Maid in Gigabit Ethernet Adapter - Apple

  • My Airport Time Capsule can act as a WIRELESS access point

    Hello.

I brought a Time Capsule with my Mac Pro. It worked well since yesterday.

I have set up the time Capsule as a WIFI, bypass at my local network access point. There is a router (cable) works at home.

It's my Mac Pro AirPort Utility and my iPhone, my Time Capsule is displayed with an exclamation point saying "device not found". I can't connect to the disk on this subject by afp share, or smb. Time Machine function is gone too. He failed trying to connect to the share drive from another computer connected to the time Capsule by cable network.

But at the same time, WiFi works well.

I tried to recycle energy. Sharing disk will be available. But if I start the Time Machine backup, it will not be a few seconds.

    Any idea?

    Thank you.

There are several posts here related the issue.

Luckily, you have set up your new Time Capsule for Back to My Mac (BTMM)?

If so, the 'temporary' solution is to delete/disable the option of the CCMM, as follows:

    • Run the AirPort Utility.
    • Select the base and then station, select change.
    • On the tab of the Base Station, go back to the section of my Mac at the bottom of the window.
    • If you have entries here, select it and click then the minus sign "-" button to remove it.
    • Click on update and allow the base station restart.

If you have not enabled CCMM, we have other options for you to try.
