Partitioning a disk

Hello

Windows 8 operating system is installed in drive C I also have another drive D. What I see through the exploreis file is given below.

Lenovo (D): 22.9 GB free of 24.9 GB

Windows8_OS (C :), free of GB 892 752 GB

The properties of the two readers are (a) Type: Local disk, and (b) file system: NTFS

I want to have three partitions of disk C (is it a good idea?) so that I can back up my computer in them. Can someone help me in this matter?

Thanks, KRKinsey

Hello Ken,

Thanks for the reply. It helps.

You are welcome. Happy to help you.

By personal backup did you mean backup of operating system and the operating system files not?

Yes.

"Drives hard removable two identical" don't you mean these drives must be large enough to hold the data of my 'C' drive so that I can use these again and again for the backup?

Yes.

When I use them again and again, this is what they are overwriting the previous data?

It depends on what backup program you use and that you have selected.
In my case, Yes, that's what I'm doing. But we are all different and have
different needs; That's why I talked about 'my personal backup plan. "

  • How to resize partitions of disk on Satellite A300-14V?

    Hello

A drive in my Toshiba Satellite A300 14V 320 is divided two equal C: and E: volumes. The c: volume contains Vista OS, programs and lots of user data. The E: volume is the folder HDDRecovery contains it is about 4 GB, but when I check the properties of the volume E: I see 30 GB of used space. Could someone explain what is the problem?
And there's a question related - why I am able to reduce volume E: only for about 12 GB and not able at all to expand the C: volume by Windows tools? Do I have to use commercial software to perform the task or it is easier and cheaper to reinstall the system with a disk-resuscitator?

    Thanks and regards,

All new Toshiba laptops have this partition structure. On the second partition you have folder named HDDRecovery that contains the recovery image. This image will be used if you want to install HARD drive recovery facility - http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD9102IR0000R01.htm

On the second partition, you can also save all your important data. This second partition is not reserved for the recovery image only. Very important, it is follow:
    # When you want to install the OS by using restore DVD disc the whole HARD disk will be formatted and all data will be gone.
    # When you use second partition of disk HARD recovery option will not be changed. This means that all data stored on the second partition will be there even if you have installed the operating system again.

It is therefore recommended that you save all important data, music, movies, photos, or different documents on the second partition. If you want to use this HARD drive recovery option in the future please do not change the partition structure. When something is changed, it can happen that you will not be able to start the installation of HARD drive recovery.

If you care about second partition and if you created recovery DVD discs, you can with the partitions all you want.

If you have any other questions please let me know.

  • Why does windows partition hard disk of 500 GB so that 60 GB fills the drive c, then d ' drive is empty (295 GB free)?

    Original title: hard drive partition

Why does windows partition hard disk of 500 GB so that 60 GB fills the drive c, then d ' drive is empty (295 GB free)?

It depends entirely on the Installer Windows at your partition layout described no.1 is not standard.

By default on a totally blank disk Windows 7 installation will create two partitions. A system reservedMB 100 partition which will not have any drive letter and is not normally visible on computer. The rest of the disk will be the operating system.

Your drive C is 60GB because someone chose her for this size. It seems that if the computer has been upgraded, 60 GB would have been appropriate for Windows XP.

  • Expand or move the virtual machine to another partition / hard disk

I tried to expand my 90 GB disk but nothing changes, i.e. the virtual machine is still to 60 GB. I have VMware Fusion 6 (Mac/Windows 10) and my VM is monolithic mode. In this true HD, I even 50 GB free and I can't increase the amount again in an attempt to rectify this problem and I can not to decrease either. I thought to change the location of the virtual machine to another partition/hd with more space, but I don't know how. So I need little help to choose and implements one of the solutions below:

    - or regularise space for the new amount

    - or move the virtual machine (vmdk) to an another partition/HD

    - or to convert monolithic mode to 2 GB split

    What is the best solution?

    Thanks in advance

    It's help me;

Resize a Windows Partition with disk management tool

When you maximize your virtual hard disk, you must also expand partition of your guest operating system to take advantage of the extra space.

Fusion resizes the partition of the guest operating system when you resize the virtual hard disk. If you hold the Option key when you click apply to resize the drive, you can manually resize the Windows partition. For Windows 8, Windows 7 and Windows Vista you can use the operating system's disk management tool to resize a partition.

    Prerequisites

Check that your virtual hard disk is large enough to accept the increase in the size of the partition. See resize a hard disk.

    Procedure

1 right click on computer and select Manage.

    2. double-click on storage.

    3 double-click disk management.

4 in the list, right click on the partition to expand and select Extend the Volume.

5 follow the prompts to resize the partition and click complete and the question of the partition in the disk management pane displays its new size.

    6. close the computer management window

  • VMware converter 5.5 failed with the error failed to partition the disk of destination

I tried to convert the centos linux server physical to virtual. However, I received an error message at 1% as below,

Error: Impossible to partition the disk of destination.

FAILED: an error occurred during conversion: "CalculateGPTPartitionLocations failed!"

Conversion of GPT partition is available vcenter converter 5.1 and higher, so the GPT partition on the source server will not be a problem.

Tried several ways as the storage of data changing but still receive the same error message.

    Anyone encounter this before?

    Hello

Unfortunately there is a bug with Linux P2V Converter when the destination drive is greater than 2 TB (is not whether TPG, it's size). Sorry for the inconvenience.

The solution would be to reduce the volumes instead of destination and/or their distributed on multiple disks. Another solution would be to leave unchecked high-volume and clone them manually after the conversion.

Another misfortune is that these workaround solutions are not possible in your case - the root volume occupies approximately 4.3 TB, and the two 'start-up' and '-' are needed to perform a conversion with the reconfiguration.

The options I can think of are:

-make a manual P2V, i.e. to create the destination (with partitions, logical volumes and base) computer created and formatted, clone the data (for example the converter uses tar via ssh) and manually configure the virtual machine. The final step is, fixing/etc/fstab, installation of GRUB and rebuild the initrd image

    -install new and copy data

-Optionally divides the volume of root on the source machine if possible and then convert it. For example, to add a new drive temporarily and move some data so that all volumes become smaller than 2 TB.

    Kind regards

  • Partitions of disk, and Apple TV

I have a shared pictures library on a disk partition.  I would like to be able to access this library when you use Apple TV, but when choosing the library to view via iTunes, the file is gray.  How can I access this file via Apple TV?

When choosing the library via iTunes, you don't choose the library file, you must choose the "Photos" application and then in the Photos itself you must set the library that you want to use as the system library.

  • cannot start on Mac after resizing partition bootcamp, disk management.

    Hello guys.

    I have a 13-inch MacBook Pro (9.2) 2012 with OSX 10.9 running. CORE I5, 4 GB ram and a 500 GB hard drive.

I used Bootcamp to install windows 8.1 which succeeded, but I wanted another partition to store data, so I cut 100 GB of the Bootcamp partition. and everything was fine (the recovery partition has become visible) until I rebooted and I could not start or from Mac or Windows when you press and hold alt on windows boot only show, but she always ends up with an error and restarts.

I suspected that the problem is in the startup code. I used a Mac Osx bootable Installer to enter disk utility and you see Macintosh HD and under that
    Disk01
    Disk02

    Disk03

and I can't do anything without verification or partitioning is available. I have reset NVRAM and I ran FSCK as suggested by some article. and nothing works.

    No recovery disk is available.

Is there a possible way to correct the situation without losing any data. ??

  • I want to make three partitions of disk on the Satellite A200 - 1 GB

    Hi all

Last night I noticed that there is a small sound comes out when the hard drive is being read. The its same as the desktop sound disk hard drive. In desktop HARD drive is normal.

I thought that laptop HDD looks not that she even has the same hard disks of office technology.

    Is this also normal thing?

The other thing is I thought to divide my second partition (drive D) into two partitions, because I can then have three separate partitions.
If I using disk management it will give any question?

In the desktop, I did a lot of operations on disk with Win XP, but I have no experience on mobile phones. is there a difference between desktops and laptops running Windows XP Home edition?

I hope I can divide my second (93 GB) partition in two 45-GB & 45 GB.
Someone can give some idea about it and is any body have done this surgery?

S of my laptop HARD drive makes a sound strong and 2 years it worked ok.
I presume that it s no big deal due to the fact that the A200 is not an old series and the HARD drive is new.

    > The other thing is I thought to divide my second partition (drive D) into two partitions, because I can then have three separate partitions. If I using disk management it will give any question?

No everything should work. But I think that XP OS is not able to create a HARD disk partition. You will need to use a 3rd party as if by magic the 8 Partitions for example program.

Feel free to create a partition.

    Hello

I had a similar problem, create a second partition with partition magic.
After a long time of investigation, I found the right solution
The magic of the scores could not create the second partition because the files on the HARD disk are not defragmented.

First I ran chckdsk and after restarting again, I defragmented the HARD drive.
