The school where I work have a TECRA R950
When I boot the laptop I have a password (it is not a bios password) but I do not know
How can I reset this password?
Thanks for the reply

When I boot the laptop I have a password (it is not a bios password)

Why do you think this is not a BIOS password.
Are you able to access the BIOS by pressing F2?

If this is not the case, the laptop is secured by password BIOS and this unknown BIOS password can be removed only by the authorized service provider...

If you do not know the password, you can request assistance from the ASP

  • Tecra R950 - 16L - display sometimes dark rest under tension

    Hello

I have a Tecra R950 - 16L for about 3 months now, everything works fine. Since a few days, I now the problem that sometimes, especially after I transported the laptop before, the internal screen is black after that I turn on the laptop.

Blindly, I can type my password and see the disk activity that windows probably begins, but none is displayed.

After I move the laptop and shake a little sometimes it works again and the computer remains work until I move the laptop again (at least this is what seems to make the effect occur).

Seems to me like a connector loose on the screen or something like that?

Is it possible to fix this on my own?
I need my cell phone all the time and do not want to send it for repair if it is not not 100% necessary.

    What do you suggest me?

    Michael Czierwitzki

    > Seems to me like a connector loose on the screen or something like that?

Yes, it seems that there is a bad connection or maybe something wrong with the sensor cover.

    > Is it possible to fix this on my own?
    I don t think so.
You would need to check what's wrong exactly. Once this has been verified, you would need to disassemble the laptop and it's not easy. Finally and above all you need compatible parts to replace the affected hardware I put t would think that you can do

    > I should I my laptop all the time and do not want to send it for repair if it is not not 100% necessary.
Well, you could ask the Toshiba authorized service provider for details and how long such repair would take.

  • Tecra R950-15F - need to WiFi disabled by deafult

    Hi all

I'm new to the forum and I have a question whose answer
I couldn't find on the web and here in the forum (at least with my keywords; please direct me if failed).

For some time I am owner of a Tecra R950-15E running Win7 Pro 64-bit and am very satisfied with it.
The only thing that bothers me a bit is the Wi - Fi mode.
I know that by pressing "FN + F8" I can turn the wireless (WiFi and 3G) modes on and off.

It seems that by default the wireless modes are turned on after starting the system.
I would like to have everything turned off by deafult (primarily to conserve battery power) and only turn it on manually when I really need.

Now I have to do the reverse by turning off manually after the system starts and I have not found a setting to change to my preference.

Does anyone have an idea to fix it?

    Thank you
    tecra14

I m very surprised of your question here in the forum, because usually the laptop / system must remember the last State of Wi - Fi.
This means that Wi - Fi should remain disabled, in which case the WiFi has been disabled just before logging off the power.

Try reinstalling the driver WLan just to check if it would solve your tiny issue.
You will need to uninstall the WLan driver before you start a new installation.

  • Tecra R950 fan speed

    Hello

I have Tecra R950 (PT530A - 00S 001) and find that the fan works almost full/high speed all the time.

I am running Windows 8.1 and run on the balanced power setting.

Is it a common problem with this model?

Someone can give me some info or measures to be taken to diagnose the problem or should I just send it to Toshiba as a guarantee?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello

I wouldn't say it s common issue because of fan activity depends on its portable use.
The fact is that the CPU/GPU performance leads to a temperature higher due to the dissipation of the heat and this leads to a stronger fan activity

There's not a lot of parameters that could be changed next settings in the Windows Advanced Power Options. Here you can change the method of cooling under operation on battery and you can also decrease the max performance of the processor to 100% at a level more down to let's say 80-90%

  • Tecra R950-104 - can I replace ODD with SSD?

    Hello

Is it possible to replace my DVD drive with an SSD with a HARD Drive Caddy?

My laptop is a Toshiba Tecra R950-104.

    Kind regards

    Luis

    Hello

I found on the internet some UltraSlim SATA HDD/SSD mounting frame that allow the use of 2nd 2.5 HDD/SSD drive instead of ODD in Notepad Tecra R950 but to be honest I m not 100% sure if the BIOS recognize such additional device.

I know that computers Toshiba laptop (Portege and Tecra) series different takes in charge these updates in the past but this replacement was not supported by each laptop model.

It depends on the BIOS and in the event that the BIOS recognize the 2nd HDD/SSD drive, the system should be able to recognize 2nd HARD drive

    Hello

  • Upgrade HDD/SSD 500 GB on Tecra R950-19th

    Hi all.

I would like to know if it is possible to upgrade (buy and then replace) my HARD - SSD (256 GB) drive to a 500 GB/1 TB on my Tecra R950-19th.

If so, you have online stores to suggest buying?

    Thank you.

I think that it should be possible to use this HARD drive since the SATA controller is able to manage these sizes because of 48-bit LAB (Logical Block Addressing)
Usually there is no big difference between HARD drive manufacturers, but I recommend you to check some reviews and read some article on HARD drive, you are interesting in.

What you need is a SATA 2.5 HARD drive (speed is not question for the compatibility of devices)

  • Disk failure HARD Tecra R950-104

    Hello

I have a Toshiba Tecra R950-104 with almost a year.
Everything works fine except the HARD drive.

In this period (almost on the year), I got 2 hard drive failure (hdd 2 had to be replaced!).
Fortunately the issues occurs within the warranty period.

Y at - it problems with this machine, about the drive HARD (it's a 500 GB, 7200 RPM Toshiba HDD).

    Thank you

    Hello

HARD drive problems do not portable but depend on the use of HARD drive and use of portable.
The HARD drive is a wearing part. Sooner or later every HARD drive was going to die.

This problem can occur because the HARD drive is affected by shocks while moving the laptop. In addition, there a lot of different hard drives on the market. Some are less expensive because of the low quality and some HDD cost more because of good quality.

If you keep the eyes on the quality of the HARD drive.
But to be honest, I would never buy a laptop HARD drive. I replaced my HARD drive with an SSD. Its much faster and more sustainable as a HARD drive

  • Re: Tecra R950-18F: win 8 Pro starts a new SSD drive

    Hello

Having a few issues with the victory 8 DVD pro included with my laptop.

BIOS is set as UEFI + secure boot, win 8 pro dvd starts and I can start recovery, after a while, he asks disc 2 and starts to recover win 8.

After completion and reboot, it does not start and shows just the toshiba logo.

Factory hdd with SSD OCZ VERTEX 4 is replaced by the bios.

    What could be the problem?

    > Drive HARD factory is replaced with SSD OCZ VERTEX 4 recognized by the Bios.

You have the same start-up problems 8 win using the original HDD equipped Tecra R950?

From my point of view, it would be possible that this laptop does not start successfully because of the new SSD.

I recommend you check the previous HARD disk.
If the laptop could start correctly, the problem is related to the new SSD drive.

In some cases, it would be possible that the SSD firmware must be updated.

  • WLAN Driver works do not (Tecra-R950-116 PT534E-00E00CGR)

I'm stuck with installing the driver WLAN Notepad mentioned above on our image of 64-bit Windows 7 preconfigured.

It seems to be a combined WLAN and Bluetooth Card (Atheros Wireless AR9485WB-EG). Unfortunately, the problem is complicated by the fact that the model is NOT in the data base of Support from Toshiba. Perhaps because it has been customized to measure for our Organization.

If neither "autodetect my model" or enter the serial number on the Toshiba support work, gives just "model not recognized." Not very professional.

After putting the Image on the laptop, there are 4 unrecognized devices in the Device Manager.
One is titled the network controller, 3 are more unknown.

I downloaded the home page of Toshiba Atheros driver.
It installs without error but peripheral is always displayed non-functional in device Manager.

In the Forums from the Toshiba Support I picked up the end to install the filter of BT first driver package, but did not help.
I tried 3 third-party drivers. There was a constant error "Access Violation" or "file not found".

I did not save the Image of the laptop came with.
You spend your recovery media order would lead to large administrative overhead because it takes the credit card or payment in advance.

    Anything more I can do?

    Hello

The laptop supports map of WB225 WLan Atheros b/g/n including the BT feature.

The Atheros driver for the Toshiba UE driver page should be compatible:
    [Wireless Lan Driver v 9.2.0.489 | http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_driver_details.jsp?service=EU&selCategory = 2 & selFamily = 5 & selSeries = 241 & selProduct = 7562 selSh ortMod = 3563 & language = 13 & selOS = 30 & selType = all & yearu pload = & monthupload = & dayupload = & useDate = null & mode = a llMachines & search = & action = search & macId = & country = al l & selectedLanguage = 13 & type = all & page = 5 & ID = 82924 & OSI D = 30 & driverLanguage = 42]

You must pay attention to the function of BT, to install the driver WLan, then Atheros BT filter package and then the Toshiba BT stack in order to get the work BT and Wlan.
