I tried to replace these five files in my profile with each of the seven backups directory, and none of the backups will produce my passwords. I can see the information encoded in key3. DB but this file is very old and is not my most recent saved passwords for sqlite, so back to this version is not an option.

  Hi, it seems I solved the problem by trying to downgrade to 3.6.3 using synaptic. for some reason, instead of decommissioning, it just uninstall the following six packages:

  Firefox
  Firefox-3. 5.
  Firefox - 3.5 - branding
  Firefox - 3.5 - gnome-support
  Firefox-branding
  Firefox-gnome-support

  then I went to try again to install firefox (it installed 3.6.8), but only the two following packages installed:

  Firefox (3.6.8 + build1 + nobinonly - 0ubuntu0.10.04.1)
  Firefox-branding (3.6.8 + build1 + nobinonly - 0ubuntu0.10.04.1)

  now all my passwords are appearing again (whew!) guess it was just a bad update or something...

  You have a backup, you can restore from? If Yes, go to the Finder and select your user folder.
