Path of VMdirect and Dell Poweredge T110 II

No matter who got the e/s working on the Dell Poweredge T110 II DirectPath?  On the Summary tab, I have a warning indicating that the host hardware does not support the DirectPath of IO.  I have virtualization enabled in BIOS.  On the configuration tab I also have the error "Host does not support configuring passthrough" my processor is a intel Core I3-3220 3.3 Ghz.   If someone got it works with the latest BIOS?  I have to use USB external drives for storage of files and not facing one of the internal locations and just use the internal slots for my build of ESXI raids.  Any help in this would be appreciated.

Thank you

Stephen Bailey

I discovered that my CPU does not support directpath i/o, so there is no hope in getting this work.  I found a work-around however to get a crossed USB device.

While VMdirectpath i/o would be nice there is also a USB device transfer which is another way to allow direct communication with a hardware device to a guest operating system.  ESXI allows transfer USB Device (this can be done without vmdirect path).

When I first tried this (I didn't know at the time that ESXI 5.0 did not support USB 3.0) device usb 3.0 had not passed through and I thought it was because of a misconfiguration of the vmdirect path.  I did some additional research after I discovered that my processor didn't support directpath and found documentation for transfer of USB device.  All I had to do was add the USB controller to my guest operating system configuration then added a "usb device" to the configuration of my guest operating system who found the name of the device is connected.  I was then able to add a USB 2.0 device and my guest what OS is very clear.

  • RAID and Dell PowerEdge T110 ESXi 5.0 configuration

I just do a fresh install of ESXi 5.0 on a Dell server, which has 2 x 250 GB HDDs in RAID 1 configuration. However, in the management of ESXi I am presented with 2 drive 250 GB each, which should be visible as a single drive. This is something that Windows 2008, on bare metal, took care, and what should I do with ESXi to fix this? I just need to reboot the server and enter the RAID configuration? I need to be careful because I don't want to lose any existing data. Thank you.

    Welcome to the community,

ESXi supports only RAID controllers that are transparently logical drives to the operating system. In your case, it seems that you are using a RAID controller for software that requires additional drivers for the RAID of the operating system, which are not available for ESXi.

  • Dell PowerEdge T110 II add on the video graphics card that works

    The system configuration:
    Dell PowerEdge T110 II
    BIOS 2.8.0
    RAM 2x8GB

For many reasons (for example feeding bus PCI), it is difficult to install a Dell PowerEdge T110 II graphics card.  The ATI Radeon HD 5450 is a good choice for the Dell PowerEdge T110 II because if its (approximately 10W) low energy consumption.

After trying several HD 5450 (listed below), a graphics card that works is a "VisionTek Radeon HD 5450 - graphics card - Radeon HD 5450 - 2 GB memory DDR3 - PCI Express 2.1 x 16'.

Edit: Thanks to paikat for the following references, (see his assignment for the links, where to buy)...
    VisionTek manufacturer: 900356
    Reference Dell: A6173020

This card works when the monitor is connected to the VGA/D-SUB/DB15 connector. I wasn't looking to connect to HDMI or DVI connectors.

After you install this graphics card, passed the BIOS Setup:
Integrated Devices > integrated video controller: enabled

    by saying:
Integrated Devices > integrated video controller: Standard

and allowed to move from "Standard" to "Distributed" so it now says:
Integrated Devices > integrated video controller: distributed

Note: Install the card with the monitor connected to the integrated video port / edge, change the BIOS to Distributed settings, restart the computer and then connect the monitor to the Discrete / distributed / video port to Add on.

I have read this thread and seen the suggestion of VisionTek, it also works with the card mother E3-1230V2?

My guess is the Dell PowerEdge T110 II uses the same motherboard for various configurations of CPU, but this is only a guess.

Also, are there better options eventually with the support of 12 DDR5 and directx?

None that I know, but I've only tried a few cards. Please let us know if you find cards better than the VisionTek 900356

    SR2002
I saw a thread suggesting ASUS GTX650-E-2GD5, someone at - he of the inputs on this card?

I tried a GeForce GT 610 2 GB and it did not work.  Check the use of the GTX650-E-2GD5 (DPT) power and make sure that it is less than 25 watts (see below)

    Quick notes:

    1. the location of PCIe x 16 is actually a "full-size x 8 slot" (also known as an x 16 slot / x 8) and the video card needs to work in this type of accommodation.

    2. video card power (TDP) is a limiting factor. Technical guide Dell says "the system supports a maximum power of 25 W for all four cards PCIe.»  and said Dell owner's manual "ATTENTION: to ensure correct cooling, not more than two cards of four extension may have more than 15 W power consumption (maximum 25 W each), not to mention the integrated storage controller card."

3 install the card with the monitor connected to the integrated video port / edge, change the built-in BIOS devices > on-board video controller 'Activated' / 'Standard' to 'Distributed', restart the computer and then connect the monitor to the Discrete / distributed / video port to Add on.

You can see one of the 2 CPU servers with 4 or 6 cores per processor. Similar to your T110 would be the T410. Add the second processor enough RAM and hardware raid controller. You can have SAS rather than SATA drives and you're better off with several discs smaller than smaller disks for better performance.

  • ESXi and Dell Poweredge T410 install issues...

Hello, we just bought a spanking new beand Dell Poweredge T410 with S300 raid Card... useless day, Esxi 4.0 or 4.1 will not install on it... We get an error message during the installation:

"Could not find a data device to decompress the image for.

This server was prchased Feb 2011... can someone tell me how I can get installed on esxi?

The S300 controller isn't a device supported for ESXi. You must add a supported RAID controller. There are many other RAID controllers available for this server. The Perc 5 and 6 controllers are also good choices and are available on sites like e - bay, etc.

  • Dell PowerEdge T110 is not using all the Ram installed

Hi, my name is Juan Marrero.  I work for bike Stop, Inc. in Puerto Rico.

I've recently upgraded the processor and RAM to our PowerEdge T110 server.  Initially, there were only 4 GB of RAM.  Now he has installed 16GB but only 8 GB are usable.

The processor is an Intel Xeon x 3430 and has been upgraded to an Intel Xeon x 3470.  No problem here.

The specifications of the memories are: 4 GB DDR3 PC3 - 10600 ECC Unbuffered DIMM (4 of them)

for a total of 16 GB of RAM.  I searched the internet and found nothing in the BIOS to not limit to 8 GB.

Is there a limitation, no matter what the motherboard and processor say they can handle?

I thought. The Foundation is limited to 8 GB:

  • ESXi 4.0 and DELL PowerEdge T100

    Hi all

I have a question to any user of the T100 Server (or anyone abe to solve my problem). I want to buy a DELL (round) Server compatible with ESXi 4.0. But I have a problem with the compatibility logging, I found a document from DELL:

    http://support.Dell.com/support/eDOCS/software/eslvmwre/vs/AdditionalDocs/compatbltymatrx/compmat.PDF

Who informs on the compatibility of the T100 with ESXi 4.0 server. On the other hand on the compatibility list VMware it is said T100 is compatible with ESXi 4.0 but with Intel Xeon 33xx series. I have not found an exact match as Intel Xeon 3300. But in the configuration of the server, I found a processor like the Quad Core Intel® Xeon® X 3330; 2.66 GHz, 2x3M Cache, 1333 MHz FSB, 95W TDP.

And my question is this compatible with ESXi 4.0 Server and CPU? Anyone tried this configuration or knows answer this question with certainty? It would be very helpful because if I buy T100 which won't be compatible with ESXi 4.0 it will be useless. Please do not suggest other DELL PowerEdge servers - I have no money for them.

    Thanks in advance.

The selected processor would be correct. I don't know if controller SAS 6iR has of a cache battery module, but it is worth for the performance of the disk.

  • Dell PowerEdge T110 II and 220V power supply

I recently bought a PowserEdge T110 for our Church.   However, I see that the block of backup is setup on a 220v system.   How can I configure the PE T110 11 to accept 220v power?   Previous old units of tour I worked with had a switch in the back, but it does not seem to have one.

    Mango1,

With the T110 II, feeding is automatic, so there is a switch to change the voltage. The switch has been removed due to progress in technology and simplify the servers and their configurations.

Hope this helps to answer your question.

  • ESXi 4.1 and Dell PowerEdge 860

I can't find Dell PoweEdge 860 to VMware hardware compatibility list.  And it is not in "Die ESXi 4.x compatibility" Dell either.  But I found a few post on someone managed to install ESXi 4.0 on a USB key.

My 860 PE has a SAS 5/iR adapt (RAID controller).  Someone managed to installed ESXi 4.1 (U1 or U2) on this model?  Should I use generic ISO image to ISO from VMware or custom Dell?

    Thanks in advance

Right, in my view, this is going to be a monologue

    So I finally tried Dell's custom ISO for ESXi 4.1 U2 (VMware-VMvisor-InstallerCD-4.1_Update2-502767.x86_64-DellCustomized_A02.iso)

ESXi software has been installed without problem.  My RAID controller is correctly recognized as SAS 5/iR adapter.  And things are obviously well run.

However, there is something quite disturbing: the disk data store has the property

    Hardware acceleration: unknown

More, even if my drives are SAS 15krpm, disk i/o is really slow (especially writing). When the server was using Windows Server 2003 R2, the writing on the disc was faster.  I don't know if there is anything I could do...

I just hope that this server could last for the next two years, after which I might be able to have a new

Anyone know why the server backup doesn't let you choose the RD1000 as a location for the backup on. It is not yet listed. I see it in the list of files in the drive 'e '. but will not appear in the backup software.

    Hello ttcmartin,

What is the operating system that you are running?  If it is windows 2008, 2008R2, or 2012, you will need to use a 3rd party software backup to get the player seen.  Since windows 2008 if you want to use a tape as your backup target device you must either get Microsoft DPM or a 3rd party backup software.

  • Cannot install Windows Server on the new server Poweredge T110 II 2012

HI - just took delivery of my new Dell PowerEdge T110 II with two 1 TB drives in RAID 1, but without any operating system installed.  On the Windows Server 2012 Standard edition installation, the installation routine is unable to detect readers when it comes to choosing the installation location.  I can 'find the pilots', but on the insertion of the Dell supplied DVD, it does not find everything.  I changed different settings, rebooted and tried several times without success.  Entering the system at boot configuration screens, I can clearly see my 2 x 931GB disks and the virtual drives installed on them (I even removed the implementation of RAID and the virtual drives at some point to see if that was the problem).  Any help appreciated.  Regards, Barry

    Hello Barry

You should have received a disc entitled management of system and Documentation Tools. If you start on this DVD, it takes an option to install an operating system. Follow the on-screen instructions and it should load the required drivers. If this does not work then let me know what RAID controller you have.

I bought the controller raid (Dell SAS 5I Raid Controller UN939 - UCS51) when I put it on the server, I found when I start my server, but when I press CTRL + C to set up raid but I can't find my sata hard drives

2 is compatible with poweredge t110 sata Server (Dell SAS 5I Raid Controller UN939 - UCS51) + hard drive?

3 - if (Dell SAS 5I Controller Raid un939 - UCS51) not comapatible with my case what is the best work of raid controller with poweredge T110 with a disk sata hard 4 to make them raid 1

"but what I get from your advice (JW063 - SAS, SAS6/IR controller card) cannot configure hard disk of 2 TB sata raid 1 and shown 1 TB > is it good?

    N °

A SAS 6/iR may use up to 2 TB of hard drives.  It also has a virtual disk BOOTABLE maximum (table) size of 2 TB.  So, YOU have the following items:

    • 2x2TB disks configured as 2 TB RAID 1, bootable or not.
    • 2x1To configured as a 1 TB RAID 1, disk bootable or not.
    • 2x1To configured as 2 TB RAID 0, disk bootable or not.
    • 2x1To disks configured as first 1 TB RAID 1 (bootable), AND 2x1To set up as second 1 TB RAID 1 disks.
    • 2x2TB disks configured as first 2 TB RAID 1 (bootable), AND 2x2TB disks configured as a second 2 TB RAID 1.
    • 2x1To disks configured as first 1 TB RAID 1 (bootable), AND 4x1TB disks configured as a second 4 TB RAID 0 (not bootable).

You can NOT have the following:

    • 2x2TB disks configured in 4 TB RAID 0 for OS bootable.
    • 4x1TB disks configured in 4 TB RAID 0 for OS bootable.

"but my case is that I want to 4 TB (4 sata hard disk 1 TB) configured for RAID 1 and shown 2 TB after raid 1.

You can't have a 4 drive RAID 1 - a RAID 1 requires only and exactly 2 disks.  A RAID 1 with two 1 TB drives is equal to only 1 TB of total space.  The only way to configure both drives of 1 TB to 2 TB show is to make a RAID 0 2-disc.  RAID 0 is dangerous, because if a disk fails, all of THE data on BOTH drives is unusable.

    That's what you do:

2x1To first 1 TB RAID 1 for operating system drives.
2x1To records in second 1 TB RAID 1 for your partition data per second.
