    Hi, I just buy 2 Ipads for kids, wifi only. What was my surprise when I realize that they don't have GPS build in (Incredible right?)

    So I'm looking for a way to install the GPS chip in devices, I'm not interested on external devices so complex for them...

    I don't care warranty or something like that, anyway, I'll have to buy another device very soon if I can't solve this shortage.

    I'd appreciate any help

    Thanks in advance,

    iPads have no serviceable parts by the user, so you cannot add a GPS chip. Start shopping for that new device.

  • Slate 6 None GPS chip!

    Hello

    IM this announcement as being the answer I got to call the hotline.

    I don't agree with what I was told, but the engineer said that he checked with the senior level technicians before you give me the answer.

    It told me that the slate 6 does not have a GPS chip but rather gets its info from data such as 3 G GPS.

    It was clear that it has no GPS chip, so there is nothing to fool you or difficulty in the phone.

    If there is no problem, it will be the carrier sending GPS coordinates.

    My feeling is that the technology is confused over what is A - GPS and how it works and why it is different from GPS.

    Its different you are attended and the other is not, but both are GPS.

    Also if I use a test GPS application, I can see what satellites I'm under.

    Maybe I'm wrong, for now, my slate 6 cannot be used as a GPS device unless I want to know where I am within a radius of 100M, which puts me in the bad roads and navigation does not work.

    FYI

    I tried Google maps and a GPS paying program.

    Slate 6a one integrated Marvell 88 L 1000 GPS location processor hybrid. This is equivalent to a GPS receiver.  See Specifications for the slate voice 6 tab.

    It is built into the chipset.

  • TPT2: GPS works do not at all

    Hello

    On my TPT2, I have most of the newer drivers and were essentially fine a few months of work. On a recent trip to Toronto, I decided to try to use the chip GNSS with Bing Maps and Nokia here. Neither can pinpoint my location.

    I tried to reinstall the driver of GPS chip (which somehow has never been updated since 2012?) and now shows Device Manager, under sensors, sensor geolocation of GNSS of Broadcom works correctly, but somehow, the location of Windows provider is disabled, becase "the device is not functioning properly because Windows canoe load the drivers for the device.» (Code 31) ».

    Someone at - it the GNSS sensor works correctly in their tablet, and if they were having problems, can you tell me of possible corrections?

    Thank you.

    Thanks Gcoupe. Fixed, but with a few adjustments to your tip.

    The Setup program for the GNSS is a command, not a standard MSI file. Then when I tried to install from Windows Explorer, the command line window resulting showed a bunch of messages "Access denied.".

    My solution:

    1 went to Device Manager, uninstalled both devices and checked the box in the GNSS uninstall to 'remove' the pilot.

    2 restart the computer.

    3. open the (accessible from Windows + X) administrator command prompt

    4. went to C:\Drivers\Win\Gps\

    5 typed install.bat.

    6 drivers installed correctly.

    7 Windows location sensor appears as needed, but still not 'live' in Device Manager.

    Location now works correctly in Bing Maps, Metro, IE and Firefox.

  • GPS robustness in the BB device

    Hi guys, recently I met some problem in 8110 GPS, the 8110 has a weaker gps chip, and sometimes I could not the gps information, so is it possible to update the GPS? (We can update GPS in the menu BB device (Option-> Options-> GPS-GPS > Advaced refresh), but how can I update from the code) I want to say how can I update the GPS of my code?

    Your code to reset the LocationProvider seems to me.  I was delaying sponsor in hopes that you would get other entries in this issue.  Not sure I can help more other which suggests the upgrade of the unit to the 4.5 OS to see if that helps.

  • Cellsite modes & GPS

    Hello

    I write an app for BlackBerry "BOLD" 9000,9700 (with GPS chip) and the Curve 8900, 8520 (without GPS chip) that uses location information. I use JDE 4.6.

    I use the following code to get the LocationProvider object

    Criteria criteria = new Criteria();
    criteria.setHorizontalAccuracy(Criteria.NO_REQUIREMENT);
    criteria.setVerticalAccuracy(Criteria.NO_REQUIREMENT);
    criteria.setCostAllowed(true);
               criteria.setPreferredPowerConsumption(Criteria.POWER_USAGE_MEDIUM);
    locationProvider = LocationProvider.getInstance(criteria);

    //if GPS chip is not available or if there is no satellite coverage (i.e. inside a building) use Cellsite
    if (locationProvider.getState()==LocationProvider.OUT_OF_SERVICE || locationProvider.getState()==LocationProvider.TEMPORARILY_UNAVAILABLE){
              criteria.setHorizontalAccuracy(Criteria.NO_REQUIREMENT);
              criteria.setVerticalAccuracy(Criteria.NO_REQUIREMENT);
              criteria.setCostAllowed(true);                       criteria.setPreferredPowerConsumption(Criteria.POWER_USAGE_LOW);
              locationProvider = LocationProvider.getInstance(criteria);
    }

    What does this code is trying to get a locationprovider object that uses the assisted mode (I place my criteria according to the GPS BlackBerry development guide). If there is no coverage of a chip or a GPS satellite I try to get a locationprovider who uses the Cellsite mode.

    This code works for the BlackBerry Bold 9000 and 9700 only when I saw the sky. However, it does not work with curve devices or work with "BOLD" devices when I've not seen from the sky.

    The following pictures are taken from dev GPS guide by RIM on the configuration of the objects of criteria for the cell site towers assisted modes

    My code is doing exactly that!

    In this Capacity GPS BlackBerry link, it says that 9000 "BOLD" only supports standalone mode. There is no reference to the Bold 9700 and Curve 8900 and 8520. Moreover, I know that the 9000 "BOLD" support cellsite mode because personally, I use applications on my 9000 "BOLD" who recover my position so that I have no sky view (like Foursquare).

    Also, I know that my carrier allows for triangulation of Cellsite. I develop the same application for the iPhone and I am able to retrieve the user's location based on the cell site information.

    Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening?

    Thanks in advance

    I solved this problem a while back on another thread and thought for those who might find this thread please refer to the solution here:

  • Socket/GPS

    We need to build a GPS Tracking application

    then weneed to connect to GPS all the time

    We need to connect to GPRS all the time (we do not discuss here why connect all the time, it's a long story)

    We therefore need suggestion how to start doing: discussions, communication of thread,

    Thank you guys

    Just to summarize the previous posts and you give a bit more information.

    To keep the GPS chip and to make sure you are feeding a continuous supply of patches, you must use LocationListener and set it to a new location every 10 seconds or more.  This drain the battery of your device, rather quickly, in my experience, don't expect it to last more than a day.  You can see a sample that you can use in the demo GPS.

    The GPRS connection is not related to this treatment.

    Remember to keep open the socket, you will need to send data, the wireless business is another drain on the battery.  However, be aware that this connection will be lost from time to time (if only when your device is running out of battery!), so you have to design a store and a mechanism before you overcome this problem.  The socketdemo should help you get started.

    I don't really know if you want to use a socket connection, or just send the data http quite frequently.  http data are perhaps easier to do, see the httpdemo for an example.

    Do not expect to create something like this in a few days.  You will have problems integrating the code examples I gave you, and then incorporate these so that you have the appropriate user interface to control you need.  Then you will discover that some of your data is actually not valid and you will need to design heuristics to throw data dud.  And then you find out it is not so easy to create an outlet, restrict even just you to GPRS.

    Good luck.

    List of BB devices equipped with autonomous GPS capability.

    I would like to know the list of devices have the capability of autonomous GPS (GPS chip set that can operate in stand-alone mode without using the assistance by the provider, only satellites).

    BB Storm is an example.

    I know that some providers block some GPS capabilities, but first of all, I would like to know which devices have real autonomous GPS?

    First of all I m asking about 9000 "BOLD".

    I found the next list very well explained. -> GPS BB capacity

    It will be very useful if the BB team can release list updated with new features and more vendors (maybe all providers for North America).

  • Activity app illustrating not road

    Just saw this on iLounge this morning.  Apparently the iPhone App activity is supposed to now show the routes of your workouts as well as the temperature at the time of the workout. I guess that they have managed to do this pairing of the iphone with the Apple Watch rather than to use a Apple Watch 2 (with GPS chip) that watch has not yet been made public

    Unfortunately, doesn't seem to work on my phone... Would have someone seen this work? No idea how to operate.  The watch and phone are already set to the location of the monitor and the movement

    IPhone 6 s IOS10 running

    Apple Watch running watchIOS 3

    I just noticed this also and was looking for the meaning of the colors on the road.

    This appears in the title of the activity, but it's under a workout. I just do a walk outdoors, opened without purpose, and when I finished the road appears under activity/workouts.

    I don't have to do anything else to make it work. I take my phone with me on my walks.

  • WeatherBug: App incompatible with the installed version of the operating system (HP Slate 7)

    Greetings!

    First post of this forum and a relatively new user of any kind of Tablet.  Yes, sorry if I miss some "Exchange of detachment" to ask for the help.

    There is a NEW Tablet and after download/installation of operating system updates, went to download WeatherBug on Store.  WeatherBug was not available.

    I found an alternative download site, but was messaged that the version is not compatible.

    It seems strange that I've installed WeatherBug on all everything I have.

    Android version: 4.1.1

    Kernel Version 3.0.8.

    Build number: HP_Slate7 v1.05.8_user

    Thank you!

    Hello BigSkyMike, welcome to the HP support community!

    Unfortunately, since the Slate7 has no built-in GPS chip, programs are written and require the chip will be displayed as "incompatible".

    There are solutions, and these have been discussed in other threads like this one:

  • Why I can't download Sky on my HP 2800 7 slate?

    I tried to download the app Sky go through Google on my Tablet (HP Slate 7 2800). A message pops up saying that my device is not supported for this application. Why? !!

    Hello MaggieE, welcome to the HP support community!

    The usual cause of this error is due to the fact that the author of the program wrote the code in the application that looks for the presence of a GPS chip in the device.  As the Slate7 of entry level has not, it gets deemed 'not supported '.

    There are workarounds for this problem.  Many users install the application to another device Android (maybe a phone), then extract the program believed in what they call a "APK" (.apk is the file name extension, in your case, it might be "SkyGo.apk").

    There are other threads discuss this problem in this section and guidance how 'load side' application.

    Here are the basic instructions, if you are interested:

    Extraction of the APK is not officially approved by HP. If an application is not available in a specific area which is a restriction that the developer has put on the application. Such a restriction could be due to the licensing of content.

    There are two main steps in order to extract the APK-

    (1) extract the application of another Android device, or download the APK file directly. If you download the APK file also, please be very confident of the Web site. Because you will be "forcing" the application to install and don't not download through Google, it is possible the application has been infected by malware or otherwise damaged.

    To perform step 1, first install the application on another Android device, and also to install an "APK Extractor" application. (there are several to choose from and available for free in the game of Google store).

    Once the application is extracted, copy the file to a MicroSD card, or use another means of transfer for example transfer or by e-mail.

    Insert the MicroSD card into your 7 Slate, or download the file.

    You may need to install a file browser to locate the file on your tab 7. These are also available in the store from game Google free.

    You must change a setting of security on your tab 7; Click settings, security and place a check in "unknown Sources allow installation of applications from unknown sources. You will get a warning about the potential of malicious software by changing this setting.

    Once the security setting has been changed, find the APK file and simply "click" on it to open it. It will install everything as it was downloading from the game store.

    I will state some things well-

    (1) this process is not approved by HP. I am a volunteer, offering my free time to help other users.

    (2) If a request is blocked in your area, then installation can cause problems or even violate certain laws or license.

    (3) download an APK on a suspicious Web site could introduce viruses/spyware/malware or other undesirable behaviors. Do not download APKs for files that are not free Google game like this would be piracy.

    (4) installation of an APK that "requires" GPS may not work fully, although in many cases, you can manually enter in your location and it will work.
