  Were you ever able to view DVDs on this computer, or have you ever tried this before?

  Also, depending on whether the drive is detected (or not), you should try working with one or two of these pages:

• Pavilion 15 laptop: DVD does not play correctly

  Last year, I bought a HP Pavilion 15 laptop but not the has not used to play DVD until last night. When I inserted the DVD, the computer gave me a bunch of files, I assumed they were the video clips. When play you a DVD on a TV screen, you see the main menu, and other options such as subtitles or film scenes that you can select to start. But I could not see these selections on my computer screen. However, at some point, they have shown. When they showed up, I was not able to click on them. Basically, I could only click Arrow Start to start the movie in its entirety, if I stopped and wanted to select certain scene in the middle of the movie, I was out of luck and unable to do so. At least three times, the DVD stopped playing and says was a mistake, then I had to restart the whole thing again.

  Frustrated, I took my old laptop Dell Windows XP and played the DVD disc it. My old machine actually has everything I wanted to, it has a control panel with all the buttons to play, Pause, Stop, Rewind, forward and sound Volume, etc. He worked as a TV and listed all the options/movie scenes I could select on what I intended to choose.

  I have a hard time believing that a one-year-old Windows 8.1 has fewer features than an old Dell XP. Is there a setting that I don't tip? Someone has an idea, which is not set correctly?

  Thank you for your query.

  I understand that you are having difficulty playing your DVDs to the point 8.1 of Windows but it will play well in your XP machine.

  Microsoft did not include as many files codec in Windows 8 as in previous versions.  Here are a few links that I think can be useful:

  Thank you for your response.  I can't find somewhere - it now despite a lot of research - I read on a very simple solution to this problem which is (was) affecting hundreds of users HP.  In essence, the solution said that the DVD drive has in fact been recognized [as evidenced by his appearance in the BIOS] but has been "identified" and how to fix this problem was to go into the DEVICE MANAGER and delete the incorrect identification reference - then restart the computer and Windows 10 would correctly identify the DVD player and correctly in the DEVICE MANAGER list.  I decided to try this simple fix before one of the more complex solutions that were offered.  The simple solutioon worked!

I looked on the internet and found 2 that still carry the spare part (engraver of CD/DVD of HP RX881-69001) to 89.00 and other 181.00! I don't think so. Do anyone know of a CD/DVD burner compatible that I could replace it with but for less money then a replacement would cost. I have same need lightscribe. Thanks in advance :))

  Yes BUT the formats (PAL, NTSC...) is not our main problem, the problem is the areas of DVDs (or regions). Almost all DVD players on computers will allow 5 changes of area , it crashes with the fifth. My suggetsion, player to buy a DVD for $70 and it will play everything, any area/region locked.   I went looking for a replacement optical drive DVD PATA, but local retailers no longer wear them. We had a spare SATA DVD optical drive, so I bought an adapter PCI Sabrent SBT-SRD4 (Silicon Image SiI3114 RAID ASIC) to adapt the SATA optical drive to the motherboard. After the careful installation of the RAID adapter and cables, the BIOS would not restart, and the system froze. Bike only the power switch would be to restart the system. Even with the SATA cables disconnected, there was no improvement.

  Latest version of the mobo BIOS is installed: 3.26. On the Amazon site, there were several notes on firmware updates of Silicon Image, but it's a loophole?

  I do not think that the Sabrent SBT-SRD4 (Silicon Image SiI3114 ASIC RAID) PCI will work with a CD/DVD drive even if it was not locking up the system. Check out this set of IDE/PATA CD/DVD discs on Amazon that are always available for purchase.
