Pavilion 4070 - us: new hard drive for the recovery disks do not work! Help!
Hi - the hard drive on my Pavilion 4070 - crashed us, so I bought a replacement - a Samsung SSD 850 EVO, 256GB drive. The problem is that I can't seem to get the recovery disks to work, and neither Microsoft nor HP is willing to help me. Of course, Microsoft tells me they don't give me any help for Windows7 OEM versions and HP said that my product is no longer supported so they do not help me. This is ridiculous - I own a legal copy of Windows 7 and I can't get any help from the company who sold me the computer?
What happens when I go through the process of installation with the recovery discs, is that instead of the Windows installation continue as it is supposed to, I have "no boot device - insert boot disk and press any key any." I'm desperate, I tried two different options - one was the minimum image recovery, the other was a factory restore. Nothing seems to work. What can I do? Moreover, the original hard drive is not * completely * dead - I can still access most of the data on it.
Hello:
Yes... It works fine for me.

Currently my hard drive (750 GB) is having a problem. I have a spare hard drive (500 GB), I can replace the 750Go with the 500 GB hard drive using the recovery disks that I created when I got the pc?
Hello:
All I can say is that you have nothing to lose to give a try.
500 GB could be sufficient to allow the recovery discs, you did to work.

I'm not so happy owner of a HP Pavilion S3120N. I am running windows vista home edition. The motherboard went out so I replaced it with a Zotac GeForce 8200 - ITX Wifi series. Now the computer says it is noa a hp solution valid, and the recovery disks do not work. is there a way to fix this without buying a new operating system?
Yes, return the Zotac motherboard and get an OEM HP/Compaq M2NC51-AR / HematiteXL-GL8E motherboard. I know that's not the answer you want to hear, but the recovery discs are locked to a specific set of HP/Compaq machines with specific HP OEM motherboards. Apart from this, you will need to buy a new OS.

Satellite C650 - error reading disk and the recovery disk does not work
Hello
I have a toshiba Satellite C650, who has recently developed with a disc read error. I want to access the command prompt to try some possible solutions I've read on the internet.
I made a Windows 7 recovery disk using my other acer laptop which has also installed Windows 7 64-bit. When I use the recovery disk and it loaded the files etc it evokes just a black screen and the cursor.
Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening?
I tried to start my computer acer laptop from the recovery disk and it worked fine.As is - this does anyone have suggestions as to why I get the message "disk read error - press ctrl, alt and delete to restart?
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
On this virtual path, it is not easy to offer the exact diagnosis, but of course, there must be a problem with the HARD drive. Can you get a second one for test purposes and exchange it. Just to be sure if the HDD is troublemaker.
But there is something else:
> I made a Windows 7 recovery disk using my other computer acer laptop...
Sorry, but I don t understand this. Can you please explain what you did exactly? -

Not found boot device
Please install an operating system on your hard drive.
Hard Drisk (3F0)
F2 System Diagnostics
"For more information, please visit: www.hp.com/go/techcenter/startup"
I know it's important to run the hard drive test, but when I run the diagnostics of the system for the Test drive, it says:
"HDD test failed.
There is no hard drive.I was also on the proposed site and even after "reset my BIOS to default", it recommends running the hard drive test, which does not simply because it has not really helped me the "there is no hard drive. There was a YouTube video that I came across thus suggested pulling the hard drive and diconnecting and reconnect to correct the error in this case that the son is detached, but that no longer works.
SO, I don't know if there is anything more that I can do, I guess that the hard drive is super dead.
It comes with a Seagate ATA hard drive. I was wondering if I could replace it with a SATA hard drive or should it be an ATA? (Even has the material capacity to support a SATA drive?)
Also, it is even useful to replace the hard drive? Should I get a new laptop instead? This laptop is used mainly for just browsing online and checking emails.
Any help is appreciated, thanks.
Yes, the hard drive is so dead, that he not yet register as a hard drive. The dv6-1000 series certainly uses SATA, not ATA drives so I'm not sure of what you see. You can replace it with any drive SATA 2.5 inch width 9.5 mm thick.
Watch this video between: 53 and: 59 and see that it's a SATA drive. If yours is different, so you have confused with your model.

Hard disks are a small fraction of the cost of a laptop and if your what it takes to, I would say that to replace the hard drive rather than buy a new one.
It is an excellent drive at a great price:

How to install a new hard drive and create recovery disks before installing the new drive?

Windows 7 64 bitHello-
So for a while now, I get a blue screen randomly, popping up all the time and some time, who is going to "clear my physical memory" or something and then restart after like 30 seconds. I posted in the forums, once it all started and support told me to run tests and finally told me that my hard drive has been the reason for these constant errors. Then I backed up everything, in anticipation of a real accident.
I'm about to order a new hard drive from Newegg.com, and I would like to know if it is difficult to replace a hard drive in a laptop, or if I should have Geek Squad do it for $50. In addition, I don't think I have the disk for the operating system that came with my computer, how do I order that HP and how much is it?
And, last but not least, is there a message or a video with instructions on how to install a hard drive and operating system?
Here is the hard drive Im currently looking, if could let me also know if this would be my laptop and if it's a good idea that would be great:
Thank you very much.

The recovery disks do not work for the hard drive replaced in my Presario CQ4010F desktop PC
Hi all
I have a Compaq Presario CQ4010F Desktop PC (Windows 7 64-bit) in which the hard drive went bad. I bought a new hard drive which is a 1 to, the failed drive was 500 GB. So, I ordered disks system recovery, four in total. The disk labeled 'Use this first!' appear to be running fine, then prompted me to launch the next disc, which I assume is the 1 of 3 system recovery disk. With the computer, always, I inserted the CD 1 of 3 and have waited and watched as nothing has happened. I restarted the PC with the 3 disc 1 again and that will inspire nothing happened. Any help is appreciated in this matter.
Hello:
If you can't get the recovery disks to work (don't make sure that the keyboard, mouse and monitor are connected), then you can make your own windows 7 installation DVD and use that to at least get windows 7 installed and your PC back to the operation.
Here's how.
If you can read the Microsoft windows 7 25-character product key, you can download simple Windows 7 ISO files to burn on a DVD for the version of windows that is installed on your PC, and which is listed on the Microsoft COA sticker on your PC case.
Burn the ISO with the option to burn the ISO on your DVD burning program and burn it at the slowest possible speed that will allow your program. This will create a bootable DVD.
Or use the installation of Windows 7 USB/DVD tool to compile the ISO file that you download from Digital River. Link and instructions below. You need a 4 GB flash drive to use the USB compilation method.
http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msstore/HTML/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool
Use 25 characters on the PC product key to activate the installation.
The key will activate a 32 or 64 bit installation.
Then go to the support of the PC and driver page to install the drivers you need.
Link to downloads ISO of W7 is below.

Hi all
My hard drive died so I put a new in and installed Windows on a drive, but when I have just activated and put my product key does not work. In fact, I get this day by putting in and then it says character not aloud.
Please can someone help? All I've done is put a new hard drive in but guess that Windows detects that the product key has been used on the old, which explains why it won't work on the new. What should I do to activate the key?
Thank you
Richard
Thanks a lot for your useful replies. I've got in contact with Microsoft and they gave me a key and it worked!
Thank you

Satellite Pro C660-1LR - new HARD drive but no recovery disk
I need help for my son who is the Satellite Pro C660 1LR laptop.
In this portable hard drive is completely dead, I have not created a disk of recovery for this system of portable computers.
I bought a new hard drive that is installed... However, as you guessed it I have no access to reinstall an OS, this laptop works on windows 7.I'm not really tech savvy so if someone can advise me please do explain to the fool proof format! I try to avoid having to buy something expensive.
> I'm trying to avoid having to buy something expensive.
Problem is that you don't have many options in this regard.
If you want to have the factory again settings you must install recovery disc. You can order on https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx of course is not free, but, in my opinion, without a doubt the best solution. You can buy the Microsoft installation disc and install the clean version. You must purchase a valid license for it.
In this case, you must install all the necessary drivers, tools and utilities for more than one by one.Just in case you can get this installation of Microsoft and the free license you can save money.
Believe me, the best solution is the original recovery disk command.

Re: Satellite U400-11 q with Vista has new HARD drive but no recovery disk
Hello
Before starting a very important message: I do not usually work with pc... :-) At my work we have an IT Department for our PC :-))
However, now I have to work privately with a PC / laptop and I need help: I'm sitting in front of a Toshiba Satellite U400-11 q with a HARD drive completely newly formatted and unfortunately WITHOUT recovery CD or DVD!
So far I managed to format the new HARD drive and put a Windows Vista Home Basic (OEM software) from my old pc on this notebook. However, nothing works again (I want to get into the Internet, etc.).
So, I now have to put on all the involved drivers as well as drivers TOSHIBA original, right?
How can I do this? What drivers to I need? Do I have to download all the drivers concerned (total 113) one by one on the Web from Toshiba site?
ANY help is appreciated as I see myself spend all night in front of the PC...
Thank you
MFor the benefit of mobile work, you need to install all the necessary drivers and tools and utilities.
Each of them you can find on Toshiba download page under http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jspAny substance must be installed according to installation order. Here it is:

By the way: this machine works perfectly with Win7 32-bit so I highly recommend you to use Win7 instead of Vista.

How can I work around the limit of 120 GB limit in the BIOS or motherboard?
Do I have to upgrade the BIOS?
What are the problems should I expect to install 250 GB HARD drive?
Are there guidelines or references to help with this project?

Hi, I used Norton ghost 15 clone my old original (750 GB) to a new HDD (1 TB) hard disk, all seemed well, start in windows 7 from screen, but when he arrived at the office, there was a line saying "this is not a genuine copy of windows 7" and nothing shown on the desktop but a light blue background. I have my Win 7 DVD, but there is no way to indicate to the system on my product key. I'm stuck on a blue screen.
After seeing another suggestion to use MGAdiag, I created a new boot disk and it linked the diag. The output is cryptic, so I guess that I have validated only my new installation and there is no obvious way to point to the other disk. But the output is lower.
