• Equium won't start - how to access the recovery partition?

  Hi, my sister has a 2008 Equium A200-1V0 with Vista 32-bit, that no longer starts (probably due to damage of rootkit virus). It loads the BIOS but then goes to black screen with blinking cursor.

  This product key and sticker on it's just proof that you purchased the machine with an operating system preinstalled and legal active OS version. This key belongs to original OS (recovery image) that you got with your laptop and it is not a kind of universal key that you can use for the activation of the operating system if you have made the decision to install the clean version of the OS.

  In General, this key is totally useless. While your computer you've got legal copy and this version, that you can install so often desired. It must not be enabled.

  I've formatted Windows 7 with a Windows XP CD but did not setup. I wanted to know how to access the recovery partition to set it by default, everything exists on the laptop right now is Ubuntu, but I don't know, I saw an additional partition that must contain recovery files as laptop did not come with a recovery disk and unfortunately did not create a filter.

  How can I access the recovery partition on the laptop having in mind, I formatted the drive Windows 7 was installed on or should I activate or something like that?

  On the second partition of your laptop (data partition), you will find a folder named HDDrecovery and it contains recovery files. The problem is that you can use the HARD drive only with the pre-installed operating system recovery feature. It would mean in your case it s too late now and it s not in use anymore.

  You have created the Toshiba recovery disc as mentioned in the user manual? If Yes, you can use this disk to restore to factory settings. Just boot from this CD and follow the instructions on the screen.

  I'm afraid that you can't create partitions of recovery if they are deleted. End users cannot do.

  If the computer is originally shipped with Windows preinstalled by HP (OEM of Windows for example), you can buy HP recovery media. They are generally cheap. You can use it to restore your computer to factory default condition. Here's how:

  And once you receive the recovery [DVD or USB pen drive] media, here's how to use it to restore default factory/Windows to a condition:

  If the computer is originally not is not come with Windows pre-installed, but you install on your own after that, then you need to use the Windows installation media to reinstall Windows.   You can use the 8.1 Windows disk management utility to delete the partition. Right-click the icon to the left of the bottom and select disk management to call the disk management utility in Windows 8.1

  I made the recovery discs when I came to my computer, but I left with my parents... which is be the other side of the world (literally).

  I tried holding down the zero, F2, F8... of other ideas?

  If not, is there another way to do it from a live CD? (like the one I currently use to write this message)

  Unfortunately, you will not be able to access the files for recovery. It can be done if the laptop has only factory settings. You use updated the system with two operating systems. If you want to have the factory settings again you can have with using the recovery disc only.

  I put t know how long it will take but maybe you should communicate with your parents and ask if they can send you the recovery disc as soon as possible.

  Otherwise you will have to use the installation disk of Microsoft for clean operating system installation. It can also be good solution for a few days until what you expect of original disc.

  The "recovery Partition" in question is not a thing of Microsoft.  Ask that ever created it (the manufacturer of your computer) which will probably help you not because it's beyond their desire to do so.

  I suggest you create / have external media and numbers of series/product key in another place course of the computer itself.

  Thanks for the info. I think now I'll try to make a recovery disk using a linux boot disk as Hiren or Knoppix or Ubuntu even running from a live capture recording programs in the recovery partition and see if there isn't a way I can get to start. If the I386 file has a file winnt32.exe, which starts a new installation, I'm home free. For completeness of information, I will post what happens.

  I'm afraid that, as the recovery partitions are parties and if no recovery media is created, the only way to return to the factory default condition is by buying/getting recovery (DVD or USB pen drive) media. You can get the HP recovery media (website or by contacting HP support - these are the recommended means) or by buying some stores online.

• Size of the problems after the system partition resizing - are X 201 hard drives using a particular geometry?

  I recently copied my default system hard disk (320 GB / Western Digital) on a larger hard drive (500 GB / Hitachi) which I also ordered through Lenovo.

  Using a disk imager I first copied the old 1:1 the new disk drive. It gave me an exact copy of my original disk, with about 150 GB of space disk unallocated at the end of the training. I then put this copy in the system and it worked very well, I could start and work at it.

  -With the help of Acronis Disk Director 11 - I moved the hidden partition Lenovo restore to the end of the new drive, and then finally I expanded the system partition to fill all the available space before this recovery partition, giving me a system about 430 GB drive.

  These operation seemed to go very well at everything first, but in the end I got an alert that something had gone wrong and now the disk may be corrupted. Strange, I was able to boot from the disk and everything went well in the beginning but in fact - I now have a very weird problem: when you look in the Panel-online-online disk management management system all partitions are located and that I had the intention of size. The recovery partition (~ 17 GB) is at the end and the system partition is indicated as approximately 430GB and about 60% vacuum. Explorer Windows, however, always reports the size of the old partition (~ 280 GB) and only 10% of empty space, while if there is no resizing the partition space taken.

  In other words: different parts of Windows 'see' and report to different partition sizes. Running chkdsk does not resolve the issue.

  I then realized this phenomenon in the Acronis Disk Director forum and some guys Acronis replied, that problems of resizing and therefore also the difference could be due to the fact that IBM/Lenovo uses a geometry to non-standard head of 240 heads instead of 255 heads. ????  I then asked for details and - if possible - instructions - how we could solve this problem, but got no further response so far.

  Any idea what he's talking about? Lenovo indeed uses some non-standard disk or geometry? I would have thought, that the access disk is the disk drivers? Lenovo have to do here? Or BIOS of the device involved here?

  And finally: has anyone some experience with this problem and can give an idea how to solve this problem? I'd really like to * hate * restart everywhere have to reformat the hard drive and reinstall everything again!

I have no recovery disks and I don't think I can order a so I want to restore my new hard drive without the use of drives and using the my old hard drives at hp Recovery Manager

  I bought the computer to the United States, but I moved to China so im assuming I want to buy a new HARD drive that is not Hp? I don't know if it will work yet cause I hear it must come from a drive HARD hp to work

  You can choose the relevant HARD drive of any manufacturer you want, but if you want to re-create the recovery Partition, you need to do a "Factory Reset" with a set of recovery discs - if you don't have these, you will need to order them from HP.

  However, there may well be a workaroud allowing you to reinstall the operating system without having to buy these discs.

  Can you post back with what follows.

  1. the complete model number and the laptop Nr - see here for a guide to the location of such information.

  2 version full of operating system provided with your laptop (that is, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit).

  3. can you still read the activation key product of 25 characters on your COA label (don't post back with it, just to confirm if it is still readable) - an example of a COA label can be seen here.
