Pavilion a6220n does not read DVD but CD ok

I have a Pavilion a6220n running Windows Vista Home Premium, I intend to upgrade to Windows 7.

But just in time, I noticed that he doesn't read or write DVD, work of the fine conference.

I'd like to get this fixed first as in order to move to W7, I will have the DVD player works as it should read the file from W7 ISO located on a DVD-R.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled the driver, also deleted down filters, no help.

I also restored the Factory Default Vista and still it will not read the DVD.

When I insert the DVD just, it is there and does nothing, when I click on the DVD drive in my computer it ejects the disc saying

"Please insert a disk in the drive.

I tried several different discs DVD, DVD - R and DVD - RW, same problem.

These DVD drives work fine on other computers.

Any help would be appreciated.

May be that the DVD drive on your computer has become defective. its not the unheard. Try using an external USB DVD drive to install Windows 7. The DVD inside your system is very easy to replace.

I went on the internet and found no solution.

It is not a software problem, because my laptop does not start the DVD, but due to the CD...

    Hello

The issue could be linked to the anomaly of the player's laser lens.
Maybe the lens can not handle the DVD because of a physical constraint.
In most cases, the lens can not calibrate properly and therefore different media would not work.
In this case there is not much to do in most of the cases that the drive needs to be replaced.

But maybe you could try to clean the drive s laser lens using a cleaning professional who could be bought from the other computer dealers.
I don't very well if this will help but it s worth to try m

I really need my DVD player so I can watch movies on a holiday. Any help appreciated

    Hello!

The sound of it, looks like a hardware problem but on the other hand as you say that the problem has occurred after that you installed Vista. For this, there are very less reasons. but you can try the following, if it works.

    1. go in Device Manager, click on the dvd/cd rom drives and do a right-click of your player, click on uninstall and then you restart. The reader will be installed again when you restart. get a disc cleaner for dvd lens and clean you drive with it.

If the first did not help

    2. If you can do it yourself its good else take your laptop to a Mech and tell him to remove the drive and start the computer. then stop it and install the drive into the slot, tighten the screw and start your computer. This could help.

    on the other

    3. check if you insert a dvd does show all of the data at all? If another player gains a firend or ask Mech. install another drive and check it works.

    Hi Bill,

My mistake, I forgot that your laptop is a slot player.

You should find that any store computer will store a disc, which you can load into the reader who will perform the cleanup - the disc itself was fine on brushes that will clean the lens.  The only point I want to emphasize, is to make sure that when you ask one of these discs, make sure what you say it's for portable optical drive as some are not suitable for the drives in the computer.

  • Satellite A40: Drive does not read CD but DVD

I have a SatA40 (now almost 3 years ago) and cd/dvd unit does not work well, the cd cannot read or write, but the dvd reads all my DVDs.

Does anyone have an idea why we don't have, and the other does not? (Everyone I mention that he thinks it's strange - thought if does not work the other shouldn't be.)

    Hello

You sounds of description as the lens of the drive cannot calibrate in the right position.
Usually before the player will read or write the middle of what the lens must be calibrated.
In you case the lens can not calibrate and that's why the drive does not recognize the CD.

Usually in this case, the drive must be replaced.
But maybe you are a lucky man. Try to clean the lens gently. But be careful

Looks like the drive will need to be replaced. Reason to be after you restored and still the same problem of reading is then laser most likely has it reache use life. Reader of OD aren't so expensive that it just make sure yours is Sata connections and must match any player you just have to remove your plate and put it on the new drive and that will resemble nothing has changed.

  • After downgrading from Vista Satellite L30-101 does not read DVD

    Hey,.

Like many people, I didn't like Vista and so returned to the use of Windows XP.

In doing so, I lost a lot of things like the ability to watch DVDs and sound, most of these problems fixed so easily by downloading the drivers from this site.

However, even after the DVD driver download I can't read DVDs yet.
When you try to play through Windows media player I get say error message that I did not have a MPEG-2 decoder, in the section web site help, it suggests where to get one, but you have to play for each other.
After having one in the first place, I don't think I should buy a new one.

If anyone has a solution it would be greatly appretiated if they could let me know.

    Thank you

    PS I have a Satellite L30-101

I think you have a codec problem, but I'm not sure. Maybe you should install the latest version of Media Player and codec Xvid, DivX and AC3. These are free (google it!). Or you can try alternative software, such as WinDVD or PowerDVD, you can try the demo versions.

    ================================================

You have disk problems as the CD/DVD is actually 4 discs in 1 case (CD & DVD burning and)
Playback of CD and DVD). So it is not unusual for parts from 1 or 2 to not work so that others do
    correctly.

    A CD/DVD cleaner might help.

    ------------

Step 1: Please do all the same underneath if you did some before as is often total
a process that solves the problem.

Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double click on the device - driver tab.
Click on update drivers (this will probably do nothing) - RIGHT click ON the drive - uninstall.
RESTART this will refresh the default driver stack. Even if the reader does not appear to continue
    below.

Then, work your way through these - don't forget the drive might be bad, could be a coward
cable or slight corrosion on the contacts (usually for a laptop) and other issues.

Another possibility is that the cables are loose. Remove ALL power, then make sure that the cables in both
ends. Remove and replace, do not just tight. For laptops, you can often clean power and
contacts data with a pencil eraser.

Some DVD players do not use the Windows default drivers so check with the manufacturer of system and
manufacturer of device to see if there is a firmware or drivers for your drive if necessary.

Did you follow the Troubleshooting Guide for the reader who still does not work? There are
the entries in registry that the troubleshooter does not solve and those who "might" be the cause.

Check with your Maker system and a device for the two possible firmware updates and
the correct registry entries for your car.

Here are the keys that I of course are those in question - for the subkeys of the CD/DVD drive
as there will be other subkeys in these keys. Do not forget to ask specific keys involved as well as
    the parameters.
