Pavilion a6500f: can I add a second SATA hard drive to my HP Pavilion a6500f?

I have a HP Pavilion a6500f running Windows 7 Home Premium.  I would like to add a second hard drive to 500 GB 7200 RPM to it as a slave drive.  Can I do this?  And if I can how do I know what size must have the hard drive?

That your system is 8 years old, I suggest you these:

(1) clone the old drive to a new drive, either 500 GB or 1 TB.  Use it as your new drive system.  Modern Sata 600 drives are 6 Gbps with 64 MB of cache memory. It will have better performance than older Sata 300 players with 32 MB cache / 3 GB/s.

(2) your old-school, like the reader of the term 'slave' was a reference to the IDE/EIDE, cabling system.

(3) all you need is a standard WD or Seagate 7200 RPM disk 3,5 '' hard. Both offer a free disk assistant program to facilitate the process of cloning.

I have a Satellite Pro P200 with a single internal hard drive. There is a second Bay in the computer of another internal hard drive, but I couldn't find any information about it. There is enough space for a 2.5 "SATA but I do not see a connector.

I contacted Toshiba Dutch customer service who said that it was official policy not to provide any information on a second internal drive. They also said that they would not provide parts to make it possible.

    Can anyone provide more information?

    Hello!

I think that if there is no connector you cannot add a second HDD.
It of Nice to have a second Bay, but it's nothing without a connector.

Not in the way you probably do. Here is the Service Manual:

    Manual

See Page 50. Unlike the Envy 17 and Pavilion dv7, Pavilion 17 has that a single hard drive Bay. The only way to add a second hard drive is to remove the DVD (optical drive) and insert a DVD to the hard drive bay adapter. The manual shows how to remove the DVD player and you can buy the adapter at amazon.com or jacobsparts.com. Note that this is a 9.5 mm thick disc, not a 12.7 mm. Both types are available. I do not recommend the adapter DVD player solution because you lose the use of the optical drive, and also because the interface of optical drive is usually not as fast as the main hard drive interface. Always fast enough for simple storage and you can run a video of her, but you do not want to edit the video of this disc, for example.

    https://www.jacobsparts.com/items/HDDBAY-02/

If you decide to go the route of adapter DVD I would buy a large capacity 5400 RPM SATA 2.5 inches wide and drive hard thickness 9.5 mm. No sense in buying a reader more expensive high-performance.

  • Second SATA hard drive not detected by Bios and Device Manager

Original title: second SATA hard drive

Hard drive not detected by the Bios and the device under Vista Home Premiun Manager

    Hi trinitario,.

Because the hard drive is not detected in the BIOS also, it may be due to a hard drive configuration that should be changed or a rider. If you need to get in touch with a Local tech-store for assistance.

Note: change in the BIOS/complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) settings can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the configuration of the BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Changes to settings are at your own risk.

  • HP m9340f, install a second SATA hard drive

Hello!  I tried to install a second SATA hard drive in my m9340f without success.  It is a 2 TB SATA drive, it should be compatible, but on the power of the system will not even to the last POST.  No message screen or the BIOS errors.  When I disconnect and remove the new drive, the system is back to normal.

Anyone have any success installing disks second in this model of HP?  This is the first record additional SATA hard I never put in a system, then am I missing a step?

    Thank you!

Thank you all for the quick responses!

I was able to fix this by taking two actions:

    (1) I applied an update for my BIOS.

    (2) I went to a reader from different manufacturers.  A Hitachi 2 TB drive did not work, but a Western Digital works perfectly on the first attempt.  It was with the same cable and connection of motherboard that has not worked for Hitachi.

Please mark this as resolved issue.

    Best regards

  • You can a second Sata hard drive in the M series?

    Hello

Can I install a second hard drive in the M series?

In particular, I would like to install a Seagate Barracuda SATA 1 TB drive.

I know he has a Bay, but I can shelter the disc in another case.

    Thank you

I think it depends on the version of the m series that you have.

the series m72e (small footprint); There is only a single 3.5 "sata bay.

on the motherboard there are 3 sata headers (cd player / hard drive + 1 other).

the way I did it was to order a double silverstone 2.5-online adapter disk 3,5 '' screwed into the slot of the drive (be careful; not all Player cards have lower fastening screws).

This allowed me to put a ssd 2.5 "and a 2.5 hard drive" in the case.

otherwise, it would be pretty tight/impossible to squeeze in 2 size 3.5 "hard drives in the m72e

  • Desktop P7-1039: can I add an extra internal hard drive?

I would like to install an extra internal hard drive on my desktop HP-P7-1039. I can't find anywhere in the literature if there is an available for an extra drive Bay. If it is available, can this disc type and size I install?

    Thank you

CErepair guide, it seems that there is place in the hard drive to another hard drive cage.  The existing hard drive is 1.5 to, but a slow hard disk standards.  Not to exceed 2 TB Windows has problems with the disks.  So look for a disk 3,5 '' SATA, 2 TB or less from a manufacturer of your taste.

  • How can I add an extra internal hard drive to my dell dimension 8300

I installed an extra internal hard drive to my dell dimension 8300. He only appears in "Device Manager" and shows to work but he does not appear in 'my computer' and has not assigned a drive letter. It's a western digital 1200js-22mhbo. My drive root 'C' is also a wd1200jd from western digital. Can someone tell me what I do to get it to show up with a drive letter, and I have to format it? Also, there is a way to format so I can install programs on it as my "C" drive or I just will be only able to use it as extra storage? Thanks a lot for your help!

    Hello

    • Click Start
    • Click on run
    • Type diskmgmt.msc and press enter
    • You will be prompted to initialize your new drive, move (drag) the message on one side, so that you can see the disk management window in its entirety and make sure your new drive is the disk that should initialize
    • Click on the button next wizard
    • Make sure that your new hard drive is selected (boot disks), and then click the next button
    • Make sure that your new hard drive is not selected (the disks to be converted), and then click the next button
    • Click on the Finish button
    • In disk management, right-click the unallocated space on your new drive and then click New Partition...
    • Make sure that the primary partition is selected and click on the next button
    • Leave the default partition size (all your new drive), and then click the next button
    • If you do not want the suggested default change drive you want allocated letter and click the next button
    • Change the volume name if you want but leave the rest of the information as the default and click the next button
    • Click on finish

Disk management will make formatting your hard drive and displays its progress in percentage. When it's over your disk will be ready to use.

If you want to install programs on this disc you could make custom installations and select : \Program Files instead of the default of C:\Program Files. Some installers do not have this option.

You can move your documents on this disc folder, if you want to see...

  • Help! I can't import again second internal hard drive.

Lightroom doesn't let me import photos on my new internal hard drive. It lists only the OS (c :) and don't let me no change to my new hard drive (b).  What should I do?

    Picture2.jpg

I suggest that you try to assign a different drive letter, one that is drive D or higher. I think Lightroom is still old-fashioned and considers the player B must be a disk.

  • AG3-605-UR1C supports a second internal hard drive?

I would add a second internal hard drive of my AG3-605-UR1C. Is this possible?

If it's important, the player that I'm considering is Seagate Desktop HDDSATA.

Thanks in advance for the answer.

your PC has 4 SATA ports on the motherboard, so if you have 1 HDD and 1DVD, you have 2 spare SATA ports to be used, and there is too much room on the chassis.

It can be larger than 32 GB, but it is not the boot drive and its only real function is as a cache of acceleration for the main mechanical hard drive, for which really impossible to use something bigger.

  • Can you put a 500 g SATA hard drive in Pavilion a750w?

Can you put a 500 g SATA hard drive in Pavilion a750w?  The bios is version v3.26, and the operating system is XP with SP3.  40 gig HD is full and you are looking to replace it but do not know what the size limit is with this bios version.

Here are the specifications of your HP Pavilion a705w desktop. This is based on the assumption that you converted the 5 and 0 and the fact that you mentioned a 40 GB hard drive.

You already have the most current version of the BIOS of your computer and running the most recent service pack of Windows XP. Your computer and the operating system should support a drive of 500 GB without problem. The only problem is that your computer isn't any SATA ports, only 66/100 IDE (PATA). Look at local retailers and online for the IDE drives.
