  My system (portable Pavilion dm4, Win 7 Home Premium x 64)) is works well but I would like to restore a backup of data made with HP Recovery Manager. HP Recovery Manager has since been removed from the system and I don't have a recovery disk. I tried to install sp45415 that supposedly runs a silent installation for the Recovery Manager program, but it fails silently on my system. The notes say that it applies to Windows 7 computers and the Pavilion dm1 and dm3. There is no mention of the dm4.

  Y at - there a trick to getting sp45415 to work properly?

  Y at - it somewhere that I can download an installation package for HP Recovery Manager that works on the Pavilion dm4?

  Is there another tool that can restore the backup made by HP Recovery Manager?

  If you have uninstalled Recovery Manager he probably removed the recovery of files in the recovery partition. When these files are not deleted download Recovery Manager will install. You will need a recovery media to boot from to restore the files and the recovery partition. If you do not have a recovery media you order from HP.

  As for the files you are trying to restore - if it's a backup of personal files, photos, etc. to the outside hard disk or DVD must be a file .exe inside these files, probably of Restore.exe or Recover.exe. Double click on the .exe will extract files to a folder on the hard drive of your laptop.

  We had this laptop for about two weeks and since last week, the touchpad pointing device has been utterly extinguished.  I installed the latest version of the BIOS and the Alps pointing device driver.  These two have already installed the latest version, but I reinstalled in all cases.  I also did a hard reset by taking back in the battery and now the power button for 15 seconds and then put the battery and power on.  Nothing did.  The Panel said the Alps pointing device does not work correctly.

  Any suggestions?  It is time to return the laptop?

  It is possible that the setting you need have not enabled by default, so you better check the following.

  You have a few options.

  (1) download the driver from the support portal web for your laptop on HP servers and install it.

  (2) use your recovery disk to install the driver from the recovery of the value Manager

  I had problems with my touchpad scrolling intermittently does not not in Firefox for everything to doing some time-probably at least a year. I've probably tried all the common fixes without result.   I figured out how to stop the break when an AVG scan starts. It seems that it is the AVG scan notification that appears in the bar of tasks that causes scrolling to stop working. When I disabled the taskbar notifications in AVG, the scans run normally and my scroll continues to operate correctly. So, I guess I don't really fix anything, but found a workaround I can live with that.
