Pavilion dv2 laptop: how to connect as administrator

I used my HP recovery disks to restore my laptop to condition factory & now want to install the updates of Windows (Vista), install programs, etc.  Vista updates are installed by Service Pack 2. I have installed/activated Microsoft Home & Student 2007. Then (via Control Panel / Windows updates) I clicked «get updates for more products» Forcing an update of the Windows Update software.

Then, there were 163 updates... 17 load without problems... then there have been 158 updates (163-17 = 158?). I tried to install those & told me I need to log on as an administrator.

How to open a session as an administrator?

I am the only user on this computer. I never connected as administrator (before or after the use of HP recovery discs). Whenever "authorization" is required, I always just clicked OK or whatever... no opening of the special session, or password was necessary.

  • Pavilion dv2 laptop: how to drive to create an Image for Vista?

Due to d/l & updated Vista installation problems, I decided to use my HP recovery disks to restore my laptop as long as you plant. It seemed like the most logical approach to carry out several tasks, such as deleting a 2nd user & general cleaning of the data files, etc. I bought this particular computer (way back when) mainly because he was physically small enough to fit in my purse backpack for use when I travel abroad (to download, review & backup images). I should have more a thorough investigation of speed, memory, etc. before you buy, but that's water under the bridge.

Vista reloaded without problems, except that it took a few hours of babysitting, because I had never done this before and don't know when / if my contribution may be necessary.

In any case, because of the time needed, I thought I would create system images at different stages along this restore process... as having been shipped from the factory. After installing all the updates of Windows; After the installation of "programmes" (PhotoshopCS6 & Microsoft Office); etc. Recently for the 1st time I went through the process imaging system (creation, does not) on my Windows7 desktop.

I was surprised to learn that the imagery of the system is not integrated with Vista. Told me 3rd party software is necessary. My needs are simple: I would like to copy (mirror image) physical disk 1 (partitioned C & D) & restore & up & works quickly, if necessary.

I also have a laptop XP even more old, used only for the scanning of slides. It's not really a priority, but it would be great if I could find some imaging software that will run on XP.

I Googled, but I'm really not qualified to judge what I found. Excellent sound even from those that are free. Price is of course a matter of concern because it is (I hope) of little-used software.

I use the second copy to synchronize my data on my desktop backups & will probably start using it on the laptop too.

Does anyone have recommendations for imaging system software?

    Thank you

Macrium has worked very well for me and others I suggested. Windows XP 7.Haven't yet tested on Windows 8. On my list of things to do this weekend.

You can create a bootable cd to boot from and to restore the Image even on a startup hard disk no. I use a drive external hard usb for images and it is generally fast enough to restore an image.

The other two, that I mentioned have been recommended as works fine as well - I have just haven't tried because I use Macrium since 5-6 years. I love him so much although I bought the paid version for a laptop to test, but the free version does almost as well, and I use it on other computers in the House. If it does not suit your needs, one of the other two must.

  • HP Pavilion DM1: Laptop does not connect to Internet

My HP Pavilion dm1 is not connecting to the internet.  I know it's a older laptop (I bought it in 2011) but everything has worked very well so far.  It shows my network is available and I was able to access the internet from my phone to my roommate, but my laptop does not connect.  I have tried all the usual stuff... rebooted the laptop several times, ran troubleshooting, unplugged the router and the modem.  I noticed it happened after I installed an update of Windows, so I uninstalled the updates and still no luck.  What should I try next?

Thank you for visiting the Forums HP's Support and welcome. I looked in your question about your problems of HP Pavilion dm1-3025dx laptop and with the wireless for Windows 7. Here is a link for the wireless connection troubleshooting.

Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant. Simply download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system, it has built in support troubleshooting wireless.

By mistake, my little brother have formatted the recovery partition. I'm not able to refresh the PC through update & recovery option in the settings of your laptop... I have the unique language of HP Pavilion 15 notebook.windows 8.1. Please guide recreate me the partition...

    Hello

Thanks for posting in the HP Support forum. Welcome!

I'm afraid that you can't create partitions of recovery if they are deleted. End users cannot do.

If the computer is originally shipped with Windows preinstalled by HP (OEM of Windows for example), you can buy HP recovery media. They are generally cheap. You can use it to restore your computer to factory default condition. Here's how:

    > > http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/bph07143

    > > http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-phone-assist.html

And once you receive the recovery [DVD or USB pen drive] media, here's how to use it to restore default factory/Windows to a condition:

    > > http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03489643

    > > https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PC3sUc3lr3E

If the computer is originally not is not come with Windows pre-installed, but you install on your own after that, then you need to use the Windows installation media to reinstall Windows. You can get Windows installation ISOs from the Microsoft web site and then burn it to a DVD > > https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows8

  • Pavilion DV2 1030ea - how to turn on hardware virtualization?

Hi, the processor in my new laptop (that I've recently updated win7 for free through the free upgrade offer from HP!), but some software that I use for work only runs under XP so after installing the software "windows XP mode" from microsoft, it tells me that my hardware virtualization is disabled and must be enabled in the bios Unfortunately HP totally paralyze the phoenix bios removing all semblance of configurability and there is no option to turn it on, is what someone found out how?

    any info is much appreciated

    TIA

OK I worked on how to do it myself, for anyone who is interested to do this first download a tool called symcmos.exe, starting back with a diskette of win98 or a freedos prepared the USB (to do and not just a windows command prompt) with symcmos.exe on the same diskette/usbstick and operating the prompt back ,

    symcmos-V2 - Lcmos - output.txt

When it's finished restart in windows and then edit cmos - output.txt and find the line that reads

    (017D) [0000]

    and change it to show

    (017D) [0001]

then save it as cmos - output1.txt on the disk/usbstick

Now restart in dos with the diskette/usbstick drive and run

    symcmos-V2 - Ucmos - output1.txt

Once it's initialization complete in windows and you will find that your hardware virtualization is now activated. Why HP in their wisdom decided to disable parts of the processors capabilities is beyond me! but there is always a way to turn these things lol.

This mode is for a HP DV2-1030ea with F27 bios version. I may be able to help others with different laptop/bios versions so if you want your on virt material just after here

  • HP Pavilion 17 Laptop: How I PERMANENTLY set the clickpad to disable when you use a mouse?

I know how to go into the settings and change so that the clickpad is disabled when the mouse is in use.  I leave the mouse plugged all the time because I don't like the clickpad.  However, I have to disable the clickpad whenever I restart the computer.  As if by magic, the parameter disappears whenever the computer is turned off.  I want him to stay permanently.  How to make that happen.

It is important here to ensure that you do not change ANYTHING else (don't hit the DELETE key on anything)

OK, right click on start, then run
    type: Regedit

    hit return on your keyboard

Yes, there are a LOT of things here, but it is organized.

you have the menu at the top, you want to hit edit and then find

    type: DeleteUserSettingsOnUpgrade

If you look at the bottom of the regedit window, you will see the location, and MUST say: Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTP\Install

If Yes, then on the right side (in regedit window), you do a right click on the DeleteUserSettingsOnUpgrade, and click on edit.    Change a 1 to 0.

The logic here is the 1 means 'yes', a 0 would mean no..   We do NOT want the user settings to remove on the upgrade, so that we modify the value.

Once you make the change and press 0, you can go out, and that will solve the problem.    Note that you must always indicate the pilots to turn off the touchpad when an external pointing device is connected if you don't have already done.

The advantage of doing this, rather than turn off the touchpad, is that you can unplug your mouse to travel, and you don't have to make time before changes.

  • Pavilion dv2 Notebook: how to uninstall items in "All programs" which are not displayed via programs and features

I do not play games on my computer. I uninstalled 'My HP Games' (32 items) via the control panel. However, there are 11 items that appear in the games through "All programs", but are not displayed by the intermediary of "Control Panel / programs and features. There is also a link to eBay.com, in "All programs" that I would like to delete.

    How to uninstall these components?

    Hi @jarhtmd,

    Thank you for your response.

The sample you provided it seems there are some games that you should be able to uninstall in Add Remove programs.

For example, 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Chess'. When you look in the programs listed do you see "Microsoft Games\Chess, if so you should be able to uninstall."  It would be listed under Microsoft Games / and the name of the game.

As some of the Microsoft games that came with the Windows installation you can not have an option to uninstall them.

Those ending with "lnk" is just links. Try right click and delete.

    Good luck!
