Pavilion Slimline 400-314: cannot delete the renamed user profile

Greetings!

I've been enjoying the nuances of Windows 8.1... right.  In any case, I have Win8.1 64-bit on this excellent HP SLimline PC.  Now, I need help with the operating system.  I am an avid user of Windows 7 and like it a lot. My four PC's the only one with 8.1 and I have some learning curve experiments, of which this is one.

So, I got this computer since July 2014 and did not otherwise than with the administration of the accounts.  The problem is that the account administrative principal (Yes, I use two accounts, one for the daily work and an administrator account to manage the computer - life is safer like that).

The username admin account had to be changed, so I did.  You would think that changing the name of the account automatically would do this in all areas of the system filiing.  In this case, not so much.  WIN8.1 has created a new profile.

I'm not saying that the name of the profile has not changed for purposes of connection, he fact and that seems fine.  However, looking at the users listed in the Explorer file and also on the network, the old user profile still exists with all rights and privileges of the Administrator profile normal.

I think that's not good for two reasons; It is confusing on the network. It also creates a set of accessible files because there is no way to connect to clean.  And it may pose a security problem.

Also, note that has not degraded the function of the computer, but it appears sometimes in unpredictable circumstances.

What have I done to alleviate this problem?   Initially took a chance on system restore. I do not have a restore point will go back far in time to correct it.  Then I tried the old "select and delete" some content. Not a good idea and the system let me not in all cases.  I don't know that it needs to be done by the operating system.  I'm not sure I want to change the registry immediately, but maybe it's my only choice.

So, I'm at a stand still for the resolution. Not wanting to rebuild the computer, I need a way to rub user profiles and delete the one which is supposed to be deleted.

As always, thanks to all those who can suggest a positive way to correct this problem. It's probably very easy... maybe

Banhien... Thanks for all your help in this matter.  Between your good suggestions and a little thought on my part, I was able to remove the 'extra' account on the computer.  To change the standard account using your idea was the key, except in this case, it was a little more complex.

Note that there are only meant to be two accounts on this computer.  Here's what I had to do:

1 log on as an administrator.

2. change the administrator account.

3 Rename the account administrator to the name that it was before I renamed it and capture a standard user.

4 restart the computer (even if it is perhaps not necessary, just a good idea so that everything lines up again)

5. open a session under the 'new' admin account (that I changed standard user)

6. remove the standard account renamed and all of its associated files.

7. create a new Admin account as the administrator

8 change the original standard user, turned administrator, standard user feedback.

Now, I'm back for two accounts;  an administrator account and a Standard user account.

Restarted the computer.

Set up the 'new' account of the administrator

Thanks again for your help. Have a great day.

    @Richard_384, welcome to the forum.

You should go to control panel / display / change display settings.  There, you should check the Advanced display settings / advanced resizing of text and other elements.  If this does not help, check the ease of access.  Maybe it's the Magnifier turned on.

Please click on the button + Thumbs up if I helped you and click on accept as Solution If your problem is resolved.

  • HP Pavilion Slimline 400-314: power on password

A friend brought me his computer for repair and looking for the admin password to start.

    Hello:

There is a rider of password on the motherboard with that you have to finagle.

To clear the password BIOS follow these steps:

    1. turn OFF the computer and unplug the power cord.

2 move the jumper of password of pins 2 and 4 (by default) on pins 4 and 6.

    3. connect the power cord and turn on the computer.  Password should be gone now.

    4. turn OFF the computer and unplug the power cord.

    5. then replace the default password jumper (pins 2 and 4).

Below the diagram of the motherboard... the password jumper is marked on the motherboard (in white) on the lower right part of the image (where you see blue jumpers).

You need to understand who is who, because there is no diagram to jump.

It seems to me that a blue jumper clears the CMOS memory, and another erasing the password.

  • HP Pavilion Slimline 400 - 020l: Compatible for HP Pavilion Slimline 400 graphics card - 020l

    Hello

Please give me recommendation or choice, compatible (vga) graphics card for HP Pavilion Slimline 400 - 020l available on the market.

    Hello

You need an active UEFI, low profile graphics card low power with support of full size.  Sometimes graphics cards are supplied with two brackets.  Your PC has only a 270-Watt power supply, so your pickins will be limited.

I saw a few cards that could work but all graphics cards manufacturer recommend a greater power.

A higher power Slimline power of Athena could work in your PC.

You can use GPU - Z to determine performance (band memory bandwidth) as a starting point for when you are looking for a graphics card.

"Windows resource protection could not start the repair service."

I restored Windows 8.1 at the factory of HP with the same result.

I tried using 'Online Dism/Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth' and get:

    Error: 11
You cannot service a 64 bit OS with a 32-bit version of DISM.
Please use the version of DISK that corresponds to the architecture of your computer.

Anyone can get an idea as to why ' sfc/scannow' and the DISM command does not work?

    Thank you.

I suspect that the recovery partition is corrupt and that it would have to use HP recovery discs.

I have another solution that doesn't cost anything.  You can download and burn an ISO of Windows 8.1 from the following site.  He won't get the HP software or bloatware, is a commercial version.  Have on hand your license key:

  • HP Pavilion Slimeline 400-224: upgrade memory on Pavilion Slimline 400-224

I want to upgrade the memory of my HP pavilion slimline 400-224.  After opening the case, how do I determine how many memory locations is available?  The current Council of the memory is SK Hynix 4 G 1Rx8 PC3L 12800 S-11-13 - B4.   It seems to be another location, just underneath and take-away.

Can you tell me if this machine has one or two slots for memory...  Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

Here are thespecifications of your machine. It allows two modules of 8 GB.  You said 4 GB installed.  Which would jive with your Visual (only 1 modules installed). If it was mine, I would opt for a corresponding module of 4 GB and do with it.

HP PartSurfer does not list the SK Hynix 4 G 1Rx8 PC3L 12800 S-11-13 - B4.  Another curious point, the specs list 6 GB installed. It would be a 4 GB and 2 GB modules.

  • Pavilion Slimline 400: Installation problem

I tried in vain to install my old Bejeweled game on my brand new HP Pavilion Slimline 400 office.  No matter how many times I clicked on the Install of the game on my screen button, nothing happened.  Oddly, I had no problem installing the same game on my laptop.  The computer is running Windows 7, while the desktop is running Windows 8.1 (I don't know if it's 32-bit or 64-bit).  The version of Windows would have something to do with it?  Is there something I can do?

If you can read the whole page, you will notice that the OS is Win7.  No mention of Win8. You can find new versions for WIN8 on the web.

Cannot delete the file.  Says "not not found could not find this item check the location of this object and try again."

I got this file from my friend got sent - is a word document, I had on their computer.  So I tried to use Disk Cleanup to delete temporary files, temporary internet files and files program downloaded.  Does not work.

When I check the properties, there is no security tab so I can't transfer ownership in this way.

I don't want to experiment using the way of the transfer of ownership command prompt as the name of the file is several sentences long.  I can't rename it either, of course.

Windows 7, a week and I already have a stupid problem which has already lost an hour of my time.

What I did was to create a Notepad file that was empty and saved in the same location as the file that won't go away.  Once registered.  I click with the right button on the new file and rename the exact name as the file problem.  Don't forget to change the file extension (ex: .doc)

    ex file problem: word.doc

    new file: word.doc

as long as they match eachother exactly you should see the file problem disappear and once that's gone, you can delete the new file created.

  • Cannot delete or rename a file Word via Windows Explorer

Windows 7 - Word 2007. Modification of a file .doc (compatibility mode) where the word went into a loop where it ignored all the entries. I waited for half an hour and finally had to stop the word with the Task Manager. The file that was opened at the time cannot be deleted or renamed. Same results when the system is booted in safe mode. Message is "the action cannot be completed because the file is opened in Microsoft Office Word. Word is NOT open at this stage. Result even after a reboot and no further action other than the attempt to delete the same message.

If the file is opened in Word and immediately closed with no action of any kind, always the same result, cannot delete the file and the same message is given.

Surprisingly, the file can be copied but try to remove the copy gets the same message.

How can I delete the file?

Hello, Azam, thank you for your interest for my problem

Re: Virus Scan - I use AVG and ran the scan with no problems found

Re: Safe Mode, see my original post. I tried without success

However... I found a way to remove the file. The BACK DEL cmd line feature deletes the file. We have to be careful and make sure that absolutely nothing reference file. The first time I tried to delete the file that I had Windows Explorer open and the file was clicked and the first page was displayed in the preview window and the DEL command failed, noting that the file is open in another application.

When I closed the window of the Explorer and retried the DEL command, it worked!

Unfortunately it took me almost two days to think about trying the DOS command line utility. I won't forget her now.

    Thanks for responding.

You ask if I have problems and I still have another major unresolved problem. It is, however, deliver a MS Word. If this isn't your cup of tea, perhaps you can point one word on it gurus.

I posted this a few days ago on the Office Online site in the area of the floor. There has been no response...

Here is a copy of the message:

    -------------------------------------------

    Word 2007 and Windows 7.

I have a file called v1.doc who was already involved in a situation where while I just changed that word went into a loop, and after waiting half an hour, I had to terminate Word by using the Task Manager.

When I reopened it v1.doc Word seems to have recovered the file correctly, but at the top of the window where the name of the file is indicated, there is now the "(Read-Only) text '."

When I try to save the file Word tells me that as the current file is read-only, I must give the file a new nane what I do: v2.doc and speech issues.

When I opened v2.doc I expected the read-only attribute is missing since the new name has been provided. However, v2.doc file has the same note "read-only" at the top.

Record (using Save as) as v3.doc v2.doc continues the same process.

I can't get rid of the read-only attribute and therefore every change requires a new version of the file.

If we check the file properties in Windows Explorer the read attribute alone is NOT defined.

    ---------------------------------
I could not remove these files are older versions v1.doc, etc that I note above

Any solution to this problem would be highly appreciated.
