PC does not go on standby mode

Hello

I have a strange problem with my Pavilion (Vista 64 bit): it just won't go/stay in stand-by mode.

Whenever I go through start panel into position mode it seems to go through the process of orders-by only're - wake up' the very next second pressing strongly it's fans and check the dvd player (no matter if there is a CD-ROM/dvd-rom in it or not).

Same thing happens whenever I'm away from the PC long enough for him to enter standby mode automatically. He tries to stand by again after a certain period of time without ever stay in stand-by.

I had the problem since I bought the PC a few months - but having already had to return to the first person that I bought right away I didn't go through the hazzle and take the second return - once again.

Thank you very much in advance for your help!

Sorry for the late reply.

The question that you mentioned usually caused if the network adapter is set to wake the computer from sleep. If you are usign an always on Internet connection then there will be a constant activity in the network card and it wakes you up the PC as soon as you put in mode 'sleep'.

Please, check the following and verify that the settings are correct.

-Press the Windows logo and the R button to open the control box run.

-Type devmgmt.msc, and then click OK.

-It will open up the Device Manager.

-Click on + sign next to network card and right click on the name of the adapter listed.

-Select properties, then click the power management tab.

-If the option "Allow this device to wake up the PC" is checked, uncheck the box that and click Ok.

Try to put the PC to sleep/wake and check if it is in "standby mode".

I would like to know if the procedure worked. Give Kudos if it works.

    Hello

I have a problem with a Cisco C40 where the codec simply is not going to go into sleep mode. I tried every possible thing to make it work, but without success. When I use Putty and you connect to it and sent the normal control: xcommand Eve turn on it goes to sleep. I also did a system reset, without success.

When using the graphical interface and tell the system to go into mode after 1 minute, the system will remain forever.

    Hello JJLinker, welcome.

The issue is likely caused by "Wake by " settings in your power options. This gives a shot:

    1. click on START
    2. right click "My computer" and select "Properties".
"3. click on the tab"Hardware", then select Device Manager.
    4. expand the "Network adapters" category
    5. right click on each of the devices and select "Properties".
    6. on each, go to the tab "power management."
7 turn off the checkbox "allow this device to wake...". ' and click on 'Ok '.
    8. close all windows and restart the computer

I have no navigation bar since I closed it to have more space on the screen. It will not re - open. • Windows xp does not boot in any mode

I still can't find info on windows xp does not start in any mode.  Keep the loop on the screen where it has the Safe Mode, Safe Mode with network, last Configuration know, etc.  Any solution?  I appreciate your time.

Do you have household XP No Boot Troubleshooting as stated in the post sticky at the top of the forums?

They were practically useless, I'm happy that they were taking him down.

What is your system brand and model?

What is your Version of XP and the Service Pack?

Describe your current antivirus and software anti malware situation: McAfee, Symantec, Norton, Spybot, AVG, Avira!, MSE, Panda, Trend Micro, CA, Defender, ZoneAlarm, PC Tools, Comodo, etc..

The question was preceded by a loss of power, aborted reboot or abnormal termination?  (this includes the plug pulling, buttons power, remove the battery, etc.)

The afflicted system has a CD/DVD drive work?

You have a true bootable XP installation CD (it is not the same as any recovery CD provided with your system)?

    Fill in the blank:

My system worked well until: _.

If there is a problem starting, XP is configured to automatically try to start again and you can stuck in a loop not being able to go beyond the screen boot options, or none of these startup options you choose will work only.

Sometimes, when XP has a problem starting or falls down and tries to start again, it will give you a "short" menu of boot options and none of them will appear to be good to get your system going again.  You have tried them all!

The options are similar to the Advanced Boot Options menu XP, but the only option that you need (disable automatic error system reboot) are not offered, because XP went too far during the boot process and offers a limited number of boot options.

If this is the case, you must call Options menu advanced boot yourself until you do not see the option:

Disable the automatic restart in the event of system failure

When you get the XP Advanced Options correct start menu you want to see, he has options on it like these:

    Safe mode
    Safe mode with networking
    Safe mode with command prompt

    Enable Boot logging
    Enable VGA mode
Last good Configuration known (your most recent settings that worked)
Directory Services Restore Mode (Windows domain controllers only)
    Debug mode
Disable the automatic restart in the event of system failure

    Start Windows normally
    Reset
    Return to OS Choices Menu

You need to choose in this menu is the option:

Disable the automatic restart in the event of system failure

Then if XP does not start normally, you will see an error screen with information and clues about the problem and then you can decide what to do next.

If you do not see the automatic restart on system failure option turn it off, you must reset your system and start typing the key F8 on the keyboard until you see her disable automatic restart on system failure option.

If you miss the window of opportunity F8, you must try again and start tapping the F8 key with more urgency (earlier and more frequently) until you see disable automatic restart on system failure, and then select.

You must keep trying the F8 menu until you see disable automatic restart on system failure option, and select it.

You won't get past step 1 of KB307654 or install the Recovery Console or do a repair install without a real XP bootable installation CD that matches your currently installed Service Pack (very unlikely).

You have a real installation CD bootable XP that corresponds to your currently installed Service Pack?

  • After you have installed SP3 (on XP with SP2), the PC does not restart in normal mode, only in safe mode

After you install SP3, PC does not restart in normal mode, only in safe mode, without giving a clear indication of what is the problem or how to fix it - other than say to check settings in the Panel (not very useful).

PC is a Compaq Presario desktop with AMD processor, model #: SR1720AN product #: EL540AA-ABG

I reinstalled the operating system recovery disks, which reformats HD and installed XP with SP2.

I then installed the SP3 from a flashdrive (361 MB files). Everything went without hiccups, but final restarts, he won't get to normal mode, safe mode only.

    I did it twice.

    Any ideas? Thank you.

Here are the specifications of your desktop Compaq Presario SR1720AN. According to the specification, this model comes with a processor AMD and Windows XP Home Edition SP2 installed at the factory. According to your description, it seems that the HP recovery discs may have been poorly photographed for an AMD-based computer. Please see this Microsoft article and this HP document about your problem.

To solve your problem, please reinstall Windows XP SP2 by booting from your HP recovery disks. After Windows XP SP2 is complete restored and that your computer is operational, download the "Windows XP SP3 with AMD CPU upgrade utility." Run this utility, and then restart your computer. Then download the "Windows XP Service Pack 3 Package of Network Installation" for it professionals. You can also try to use the SP3 Installer on your USB. Install the update to Windows XP SP3 and then restart when you are prompted to.

    This solve your problem?

  • Vista 64-bit Black Screen of Death, with just a mobile available slider, the system does not start in safe mode.

My system worked properly on 25 April and then something happened and now the machine comes back with "Start menu options" but will not start in one of the listed options, modes result in the same outcome.  System also starts on the Vista CD.

System begins to boot normally, shows the tracer Green Windows at the bottom of the screen, then the mouse pointer appears and moves but the rest of the screen remains black.

That's it, that's all what he will do.  I checked the settings of the computer and ran the diagnostic tests available and everything seems to go fine and passes all the tests.

I worked on my own computers for over 20 years and never been stumped before, but I must say this is a first, and I have no idea what to try to do it now.

    Help or direction is appreciated.

original title: Vista 64-bit Black Screen of Death, with just a mobile available slider, the system does not start in safe mode.

See if there is a way to tecover clean your data before doing a restore to conditions of factory that will wipe the drive of all.  You can use Knoppix http://www.knopper.net/knoppix/index-en.html with a good ISO as Copier: http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm as well as a blank CD (which you will need to do on another computer).  Starting on this disc and lla should give you enough access to the system (if you do not have any other means) to backup your important data.

So since you seem to have no other alernatives, you can try retoring the original factory computer options. However, if it is a hardware problem as could very well be the case, you can still encounter problems after even this drastic step.  Then you will need to consider in a reputable computer repair shop (NOT Geek Squad or or a any of these big store centers) or maybe even go back to the manufacturer for repair.   Check out several options and compare the costs, quality and guaranteed and then make your best decision.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!
