PC Toshiba laptop tecra9100 receive a PXE - E61 error

I have a Toshiba tecra9100 labtop and I get an error PXE - E61 message. It says Media Test failure, check cable (it is a laptop computer, it doesn't have the cables that I can see). This occurs while the system trying to boot. It was a gift from a friend, so I don't have the system disk, which he continues to ask. I went to the Toshiba site and they said to change the boot priority but none of the combinations that gives me the laptop work. I also called them and they said that there is an error in Windows. Is it possible that I can get a Windows XP system disc, or is there something else I need to do?

* original title - I received a PXE - E61 and PXE - M0F my *.

Hi Arochellet,

These errors are not related to Windows, this would happen either by an incorrect setting in the basic input/output system (BIOS) or a bad boot as a bad hard drive device.

Make sure your hard disk is configured and detected correctly in the basic input/output system (BIOS). Your computer should list an installed hard drive either the title of the home page or the page of the basic input/output system (BIOS) disks.

Check the boot options are set correctly in the BIOS, almost all BIOS configurations must contain options specifying how your computer boots. For example, most computers should have their installation options to start similar to the example below.

-Floppy drive
-CD player
-Hard drive

Note: Change (CMOS) BIOS/complementary metal oxide semiconductor settings can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the configuration of the BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Changes to settings are at your own risk.

I suggest that you take the laptop in a store local tech to check any hardware malfunction or internal connections.

    Beginner of the computer here.

    I have a Satellite L450D-11V.

Last week I dropped and since I get a PXE - E61 error. Below, it says something on Realtek Ethernet and then the error message appears below the media cannot be detected.

What does that mean? and what do I do to fix the error?

Cell phones have several bootable devices such as hard disk drive, optical disk drive and network card.
In the BIOS settings it is possible to define which device can be used as first, second or last boot device.

If the first boot device is not detected laptop tries to use the bootable device second and third at least. In your case to some hard disks drive and optical drive reason undetectable bootable devices ant he tries to use the network card. For this reason, you can see this PXE - E61 error.

I can't say for sure but I'm afraid there is a serious technical problem with your HARD drive and it can no longer be used as ring starting m.
What you can do is to enter the BIOS settings and check if the HARD drive is listed and recognized correctly.

Also try start your laptop and press F12 to get into the boot menu. If the HARD drive is listed there he choose and press ENTER. What happens when you do this?

    Please post comments.

  • Satellite L450D - 13G - PXE - E61 error at startup

This laptop has run chkdisc spontaneously started since I bought it 9 months ago, but now I crashes followed by inability to start or do anything. PXE - E61 media test failed. Its still under warranty so I will not do any DIY material. Anyone know what it is or if I should send it to Toshiba? His work at the minute, but it is to his death a bad.

    Hey Ironman,

I found an interesting article on the site Web of Toshiba on this behavior and I think that it s useful to you:

  • Qosmio F60/05-PXE-E61 Media failure, check the cable of

Hi, I have a new laptop Qosmio F60/05 which is now having problems starting.
I bought on 29/12/2010 and used again except for the internet.
On a couple of occasions, an error has popped up saying that the computer has detected movements of hard drive...

I don't remember the rest of the message, but it's usually after I took the laptop on the coffee table for sofa etc.
Only now do I think it's a problem because portable computers are designed for portability and should be able to deal with this kind of movement.

Perhaps this error and the following are connected?
This morning I turned on my laptop and it took a while to start. Then the error messages came up saying that she had to restart and to restart the "Media Failure-check cable PXE - E61" error message "PXE - M0F outgoing PXE ROM" "Insert system disk in drive."

I'm not tech savvy and don't know what to do now that no system disk provided with the laptop.

I have read other forums on other sites that say it is a hard drive problem. Is this true and can I consider warranty return?
I can't believe, I get questions on a laptop the week old and I'm pretty bored...

    Help, please

    Hello

Message PXE means that laptop would not boot from other sources, but tried to boot from LAN. But LAN startup was not possible and that's why you have received this message.

In most cases the HARD drive was not found and so the laptop going at the start of LAN. In your case, I would recommend accessing the BIOS and check the status of the HARD drive.

But if you start windows in safe mode or in other modes, this means that the HARD drive is ok.

  • Error PXE - E61 satellite 1800-712

During boot the laptop displays briefly messages PXE - E61 Media test failure check cable and PXE - M0F out Intel PXE ROM.

It began after a couple of 'experts' tried to get a Combo CDRW/DVD drive replacement to work.

It seems to be no real problem, although I noticed that Windows Media Player can not play music files when other applications are running - it might just be a coincidence.

Can anyone suggest what I can do to solve what is this problem?

    Hello

PXE is a way to boot a system on a network. You should have a right of option in the BIOS to disable/PXE boot over a network. Or, it may be listed as the first boot device. If so, change the first boot CD-ROM device and secondly to HD.

  • What is a cheapest Toshiba laptop with PXE in the Bios with the XP support

I am a reseller of Toshiba.
A client asked me this question, and I was hoping someone here could help me answer:

    > What is the cheapest Toshiba laptop which has PXE in the bios with XPP?

Customer is downgraded to XPP, looking for a low cost which will always start LAN laptop. Good that now they buy the L300 and indicated they are not PXE bios. Any ideas to what series of portable Tosh they must migrate?

    Thank you

    Hello

PXE means that you might be able to boot from a local network.
AFAIK all laptop Toshiba supports this option.

But most laptops are pre-installed with Win Vista and delivered with Win Vista.
Some professional laptops come with a second disc that allows to downgrade the laptop to Win XP.
But these professional laptops are not cheap.

  • HP DV7-3063cl laptop PC: BIOS cannot locate the serial number of the new motherboard more PXE - E61: Media test failure, check

I have recently restored a HP DV7 3063 cl laptop that died a hot mother (MB). I replaced the MB with a new Board of Directors of HP when the price has been reduced to $100, updated the CPU with an announced as new AMD 640 M and applied Arctic Silver on CPU and graphics chips. I put in 4 G memory cool, got the computer to work and installed Windows 10.

    However, I have several problems:

    1. The BIOS cannot locate the serial number of the motherboard during the boot process and sends a message to the effect. I hit the ENTER button start continues.

I tried to access the BIOS to enter the serial number or other possible solutions, I found online. Help forum a HP had a BIOS software tool for editing of Compaq in 2000 but said it would only be on the desktop and HP staff will provide a BIOS for my laptop.

    2. I get two error messages that

      • PXE - E61: Media test failure, check cable of

      • PXE - M0F: Exit PXE ROM

I didn't know all the patches for this issue, but it only delays the process of starting shortly before it continues.

Finally, the computer starts Windows, but other problems.

    mhscholder,

There isn't any publicly available method to update information in the BIOS.  HP only authorized service providers can update the MB after installation.  You will get this message during boot every time.  You also won't be able to run a recovery since the recovery media is looking for this information.

The PXE errors generally occur during the initialization of the network is listed in the boot order before the hard drive.

Ouch! Please do not yell at us. We can hear you if you type normally, in different cases.

    Hello

    A couple of years ago, I bought a satellite L300 - 229.

The other day the screen empties and restarted with the following eror is
PXE - E61: Media test failure, check cable of
PXE MOF: outgoing PXE ROM no boot device, please insert the boot disk and press any key

I have not received a boot with the portable drive... Can someone give me some advice on what I should do next?

    Kind regards

    Alan

    Hello

The message appears because the laptop trying to boot from LAN.
    Why?
The laptop cannot find the boot device
I think that your HARD drive is dead or the master boot record may be damage.

To resolve this issue, you must install the system again probably you need to replace the HARD drive first and then you will need to install new windows.

If you have no recovery disk, see this page:

  • Portege R200 - PXE - E61: media test failure - insert system disk

My Portege R200 PPR21E-00K00QEN computer means the usual stuff of toshiba: IE

PXE - E61: media test failure, check cable of
PXE - MOF outgoing PXE ROM

    Insert system disk in drive

Now my model isn't a hard drive and I bought second hand, so I have no recovery disks.
I checked the HARD drive and its seems connected properly.

Would I need to buy an external drive and try a system disk or is there anything else I could try.

    Any suggestions or advice?

PXE - E61: media test failure, check cable message appears because the laptop has attempted to boot from LAN.
    Why?
Because it could not start the HARD drive, or another source like CD/DVD drive.
Usually this happens because of faulty HARD drive.

    So how to fix?

I think first of all you will need to replace the HARD drive.

Since the Portégé R200 doesn't support CD/DVD drive, you must install the system using bootable flash USB stick memory or you would need to buy an external CD-ROM USB drive that would be compatible with protégé R200

Any info is greatly appreciated and I have limited computer technical knowledge so just as easy to understand as possible thank you

    Hello

PXE - E61:Media test failed is displayed because the laptop is trying to boot from LAN.
This can happen because the LAN option has been fixed in the first start position in the BIOS or because the phone didn t find any other sources bootable.

In many cases, this can happen because the HARD drive was not recognized.
Check if the HARD drive is visible in the BIOS must include details of the HARD drive in the BIOS
If this isn't the case, then the HARD drive is unavailable due to hardware problem.

It would also be possible that your CD/DVD drive cannot read the disc, and so the laptop can not boot from the disc.

All these questions can be releated to hardware failure... ODD or HDD, or both...
