PE SC440 and PERC H800/810

Hi all.  Can't find a good answer online and thought, that I would ask here.

The PowerEdge SC440 will support a PERC H800 or 810?  I'm looking to connect a MD1200 or 1220.

Any ideas or comments are welcome.  Let me know if you need further information.  Thank you!

Macc23,

Unfortunately the SC440 will not support the H800 series controllers. The only controllers supported for the server the U320 scsi controller or SAS5/ir. Which can take in charge the MD1200/1220.

Sorry I don't have the answer you are looking for. Let me know if this helps to clarify things.

Since you're under 2008 R2, you might be able to run the Package version of update for Microsoft Windows, but since 2008 R2 is not supported on the T7600, it may not work properly, then you can try the hard drive version.  Since the H800 is not supported on the T7600 at all, it is possible that none of the Dell drivers will work.

  • MD 1220 / PERC H800 - how Raid 1 virtual disks?

Hello I'm trying to configure Raid 12 1 (two pairs disks) in my Inbox MD 1220 with PERC H800. I started with 12 discs as 12 virtual drives Raid 0 and have recently added 12 additional physical disks for a mirror. I am able to mirror 9 virtual disks but when I select my 9th virtual to the mirror, no drives appear as available. The other 3 drives are there in the 'ready' State, but manage to open or the BIOS configuration utility seem to be able to use them as candidates of mirror. My computer is running in a kind of limitation of Raid 1 with Cabinet / card? Operating system: Windows 2008 R2 Datacenter Open Manage 7.4 Latest firmware / drivers for PERC H800 thanks! Hi Joey

I just tried OMCleanup and reinstalled 7.4.  He exhibited the same symptoms showing is not the physical drives in the H800.  I can't find a download 7.2 but would be willing to try the previous versions.  A previous version of OM worked with the same controllers / speakers / computer, but I do not remember the version where I improved.  (I am an individual shop and am not very informed when it comes to managing open, its versions and how to install/uninstall).

I can still kill the DSM SA connection Service by running a foolish occupation for the H800 report.  The report H700 works fine.

  • PERC 6/E and PERC 6 / i Firmware download - it's actually the same file?

My Dell PowerEdge R710 has two PERC 6 / i and PERC 6/E installed. Both with RAID arrays active. I do an update of the system (BIOS, iDRAC, the life cycle, OpenManage and PERC firmware). I noticed that I have downloaded two files DUP of the firmware for the PERC 6 / i and 6/E and they seem to be identical in all but name.

    Do both?

    • SAS - RAID_Firmware_3H5G8_WN32_6.3.3 - 0002_X00. EXE
    • SAS - RAID_Firmware_F96NR_WN32_6.3.3 - 0002_X00. EXE

It is advisable to run updates for internal/external controllers, because they "may" have differences in the firmware. The payload for updates in THIS version are the same... an update can update them both, but I suspect it will update the device it was intended.

  • MD1000 and Perc 5/e, senior players then 2 TB?

    I have a MD1000 on a perc 5/e controller.

The vehicle currently has 5 - 2 TB SATA disks and I want to expand.

Should a TB drive 3 or 4?  I see that option on a storage site but Dell itself sells no larger then 2 TB.  I was unable to find out if the perc 5/e can handle a drive of this size.

    Kind regards

PERC5 and PERC6 series will not be able to use disks longer 2048 GB. They can make the virtual disks in this size, but they cannot simply use physical disks of this size.

Only the H300/700/800 and above are supported on the physical disks over 2 TB.

  • PowerEdge R720 and PERC H710

For the life of me, I can't the controller to detect the physical disks. These are Dell brand discs. Any specific ideas of the BIOS settings, maybe I need to change?

The box has been initially implemented RAID 10 on the S110 raid, but I removed that and tried with the software raid times off and on and still no luck.

Don't see anything that would indicate a firmware issue, but:

If you have not changed the cable then this is the problem. The willing S110 to a different connector than the PERC.

In the diagram #24 is the S110 connector you are currently using. #22 is the PERC connector, you need to use now. Here are the part numbers for the cable:

If you have the 3.5 "HDD backplane - MX3P7

    Hello Arjan

Yes, you can use SSDS in RAID 1.

The controller supports the TRIM and cancel orders mapping. SSD MLC are grade consumer SSD which will not have the life expectancy of SLC.

  • PowerEdge R710 and perc h700, disc not visible in OS

    Hey,.

We have PowerEdge R710 with perc h700 raid 5 controller physical drives under raid6 running. We have recently added a sixth of the road which is much smaller (512 against 4 TBS) we want to just format and use it as a normal drive in the OS (Ubuntu 12.04.5).

However, the drive is not visible in the operating system. When you enter the settings of the RAID controller that it says that the drive is READY but not configured and all the options to the title of operations are grayed out. How can we make this hard drive is visible in the operating system?

    See you soon

The H700 does NOT support non RAID, so all records first must be configured on the controller, before its presentation to the BONE. You must configure (initialize) as a single drive RAID 0.

  • Dell PowerEdgh R420 and PERC H710 mini RAID setup

    Hello

I'm a little new to the RAID configuration.

I have 4 hard drives SATA, 2 1 TB HARD drive and 2 2 TB HARD drive. I just want my 1 TB on a RAID 1.

    When I did, I couldn't find the 2 x 2 TB of HARD drive.

Is it possible to access the other 2 HARD disk when they are connected to a controller?

I think I understand what you're getting now.  You are unwilling to LOOT the other two drives of 2 TB. So, what you see is correct. The operating system will not show other readers because they must be configured in RAID if they are logged as such.  You will need to create them individually as long as two separate RAID 0 VD.

Then you will see the BIOS RAID PERC of the VD 3 total.

    VD0 - OS RAID1 (disks 0 & 1)
    VD1-RAID 0 (disk 2)
    Vd2-RAID 0 (disk 3)

In Windows disk management, you also them as 3 separate logical drives that you can work with.

  • PowerEdge T710 Tower Perc H800 / H700 not Compatible

Hey I have a dell poweredge t710 Tower Server, when I update Perc 6 / i in H800 / H700 its give me error 'this update Package is not compatible with your system configuration. In fact I want to raid 4 TB Hard Drive in my server, that's why I need H800 / H700...

You can't update a PERC 6 / i with PERC H700 firmware. It is not an update of the firmware you need - you need a new/different controller card.

  • DELL PowerEdge R710 and PERC H700 RAID driver for WIn 2008 Std

    Hi all

    I have a DELL PowerEdge R710 with a controller RAID PERC H700.

I try to install Windows 2008 Std 64 bit, but I can't find the driver. Even for the site web at support.dell.com. Can someone help me.

    THX in advance

Even if you use a driver of 2008, it should at least recognize it, then you must be using the wrong driver or something wrong :)

If you are installing 2008 R2, make sure that you use this file:

If you install 2008 x 64, make sure that you use this file:

With one, you must first unlock the .exe (right click on the .exe, properties, unlock), unzip / extract the files (run it and make a note of the default location), and then copy the 4 files on a CD, USB, etc., then when Windows tells you that he is not all hard disks, click on the link drivers load below to load the drivers from the media you have chosen.

  • MD1120 with PERC H800

    Hello

I have a R710 with a unused H800 controller in it. I would hang a few of MD1120 turned off the server, but there is no information of compatibility for this combination.

The H800 documentation claims that it is backward compatible with / 3 Gb/s, but don't not specify clearly he will work with the MD1120. I guess I would need to get a cable SFF-8470 SAS SFF-8088 just to connect.

But before we go through all of this on a production server, I wish I had an idea of if it would work.

Any guidance is the most appreciated!

    -Tom

It is not a supported configuration (only the MD1200/MD1220 are officially supported on the H800), but I suspect it would work very well.

Indeed, you would need to look for a suitable cable. Dell will probably not sell this cable as it is not necessary for the supported configurations, but there are many other providers that will probably sell it.

  • RAID works using MD1200 r.620 and 6 GB/s SAS HBA?

We have a r.620 with Dell SAS HBA already in which is attached to a tape of 124 t library.

Just got a MD1200 and I plugged in the other port on the SAS HBA.  I can see the drives in Windows Disk Manager.  I can also see Open Manage, but there is no option to use RAID functions or create virtual discs.  Should there be?

In fact, OpenManage said "Connector 0 (no RAID)" with regard to the SAS 6 GB/s HBA.   I searched online for drivers for this card that allow RAID and can not find.  Am, I watered?   How the RAID to work on the MD1200?

    Hello wardog25,

For the MD1200 you use a PERC card because it will allow that you create a raid array. The SAS 6hba that is used for your 124 t isn't a raid card, so you will not be able to create a raid on this map. For a MD1200, we recommend that you use a PERC H800. Here is a link to the Guide of interoperability for the MD1200 & if you look at page 2, it lists the supported raid controllers. FTP://FTP.Dell.com/manuals/all-products/esuprt_ser_stor_net/esuprt_powervault/PowerVault-md1200_Reference%20Guide_en-us.PDF

Here is a link to buy a PERC H800 if you need.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

  • 2nd R710 PERC causes high rpm fan

I installed a PERC H800 alongside of the already installed PERC 6 / i... Before installing the H800 server was quiet, the fans ran very low.  After you have installed the H800 fans run at 11-12 K rpm all the time.  Anything else except the addition of the second PCI card.  Is this normal?  Is that all I can reduce the fan RPM?

The BIOS version of the R710's 6.4.0, firmware version 1.98

The version of the firmware on the H800 is 12.10.7 - 0001

    The version of the firmware on the 6 / i is 6.3.3 - 0002, A-00

    Edit:

    http://ServerFault.com/questions/715387/how-do-i-stop-Dell-r730xd-fans-from-going-full-speed-when-Broadcom-QLogic-netxtr/733064#733064
Found this, which is encouraging, but the IPMI raw codes do not work for the r710

I consider this matter closed.  I spoke with Dell technical support by chat, it turns out that this server was still benefiting from the support.  They proposed initially that it was a temperature issue, which is obviously was not that the environment has not changed for this server in more than a year.  They also suggested that I have to move the map to the location PCI-E #3 by their engineer.  Apparently they are priority directions of slot.  I don't know if he was moving the map that made the tour or the fact that I had to turn off the system to move, but I was able to get all the fans (even fans of power supply) at a healthy level of mind.  Just so there is no confusion, here are the commands I used:

    ipmitool 0 x 30 0 x 30 raw 0x01 0x00 (this allows you to replace the system fan speed)

gross ipmitool 0 x 30 30 x 0 0 x 02 0xff, 0x2c (it changes the speed of the fan, the last hexadecimal value has a range of 0 x 00 to 0 46.  I found that 0x2c is around 6 K rpm and pretty quiet but still allows sufficient air circulation to cool the system)

I don't know yet why a RAID DELL card that is approved to be used in this server model this would cause.  I already have far too many hours trying to solve this problem, so I'll live with running these two commands in a cron to restart.  Yes, it should be run whenever the system is able to roll.
