PE T110 RAID Expansion question

I have a PowerEdge T110.  I have two drives configured as RAID 1.  I swapped the old two drives of 250 GB with 1 TB drives.  I can't understand how I push the Ramdisk to make use of the larger capacity.  The physical disks show the amount of space available, but I'm not finding where to extend the virtual?  I read the documents, and he referred to ECAS (Online Capacity Expansion).  I don't see this tool anywhere. Am I missing/version of the software, etc..

T110 OS - WIndows 2008R2 (pretty up to date on patches)

PERC S100 - 1.0.1 - 0021 StarPort driver driver Version - 6.1.7.601/17514

Reference Management Server Administrator - 6.4.0 Dell

I looked in the management console of the RAID during the startup (Ctrl + R) and OMSA... nothing to increase the size.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Chris

Hello Chris

Expansion of capacity has been added in OMSA 7.0 if I remember correctly. You must remove OMSA and reinstall a newer version. When you have a version of the OMSA which supports the capacity expansion then when you select reconfigure the disk virtual it opens the wizard of reconfiguration. If space is available on all drives in the array, you will have a button at the bottom right to expand your capacity.

Thank you

We have a server PowerEdge T110-11 with two 600 GB 15K SCSI disks in a RAID 1 configuration via a PERC H200 controller.  This server is used in a production environment.  We want to add an extra internal drive on the server, but the readers (or reader) not be used for archival purposes.  Check-in will be only done periodically at defined intervals.  The plan of production a need for speed and redundancy of the RAID/SCSI setting.  The drive to check-in will not.  I don't know what is supported by the PERC H200 beyond two units SCSI that we have.  How would you recommend that we do that?  Should we buy two SATA drives and use them in a RAID 1 configuration as we have for SCSI drives?  All readers are saved on a Dell RD1000 disk cartridge system, in a way.  I don't know if we need RAID for this disk to archive, because it will be backed up regularly.  Others grow here to use an external USB drive for archiving, due to their very low cost.

Thanks for your suggestions, you can offer.

    Hello.

Support-T110 II up to 6 hard drives. It wouldn't hurt to implement these drives in RAID 1 or RAID 5 (for more than 2 disks) configuration just in case of failure before the archive is saved. If your archive is not so important, you can set the drives in RAID 0.

2 is compatible with poweredge t110 sata Server (Dell SAS 5I Raid Controller UN939 - UCS51) + hard drive?

3 - if (Dell SAS 5I Controller Raid un939 - UCS51) not comapatible with my case what is the best work of raid controller with poweredge T110 with a disk sata hard 4 to make them raid 1

"but what I get from your advice (JW063 - SAS, SAS6/IR controller card) cannot configure hard disk of 2 TB sata raid 1 and shown 1 TB > is it good?

    N °

A SAS 6/iR may use up to 2 TB of hard drives.  It also has a virtual disk BOOTABLE maximum (table) size of 2 TB.  So, YOU have the following items:

    • 2x2TB disks configured as 2 TB RAID 1, bootable or not.
    • 2x1To configured as a 1 TB RAID 1, disk bootable or not.
    • 2x1To configured as 2 TB RAID 0, disk bootable or not.
    • 2x1To disks configured as first 1 TB RAID 1 (bootable), AND 2x1To set up as second 1 TB RAID 1 disks.
    • 2x2TB disks configured as first 2 TB RAID 1 (bootable), AND 2x2TB disks configured as a second 2 TB RAID 1.
    • 2x1To disks configured as first 1 TB RAID 1 (bootable), AND 4x1TB disks configured as a second 4 TB RAID 0 (not bootable).

You can NOT have the following:

    • 2x2TB disks configured in 4 TB RAID 0 for OS bootable.
    • 4x1TB disks configured in 4 TB RAID 0 for OS bootable.

"but my case is that I want to 4 TB (4 sata hard disk 1 TB) configured for RAID 1 and shown 2 TB after raid 1.

You can't have a 4 drive RAID 1 - a RAID 1 requires only and exactly 2 disks.  A RAID 1 with two 1 TB drives is equal to only 1 TB of total space.  The only way to configure both drives of 1 TB to 2 TB show is to make a RAID 0 2-disc.  RAID 0 is dangerous, because if a disk fails, all of THE data on BOTH drives is unusable.

    That's what you do:

2x1To first 1 TB RAID 1 for operating system drives.
2x1To records in second 1 TB RAID 1 for your partition data per second.

  • Adding space to store data after DAS RAID expansion

    Hello all,.

I was browsing and found some jobs, but never a direct answer to my problem, so I hope someone can point my research in the right direction, at least.

I have a server (Dell 2950) with a matrix of drives RAID5 4 direct-attached storage.  I installed ESXi 4 (as a default value, possible stock) on this subject and have used for a while.  I decided that I needed more space, so I added a record 5th in the matrix RAID (via OpenManage).  I am now trying to use this space, but hit dead ends.  On the properties of the data store, when I click on the increase, it doesn't give me a measure to increase with. (See screenshot, attached, ignore the NAS1 data store, it is not related to this).

From my reading of the post, I think that my problem is that I don't have this new space in my table in one of my partitions.  And since I have already 4 partititions (stock ESXi config as far I can tell because I don't create manually a), I can't add another partition.

Here is my complication to my problem, I'm not a Linux guy, so I will try to understand both a > what I do exactly and b > what are the linux commands to do so.  Can I use SSH to access a console.

I think what I have to do is either remove that #4 (what is this thing anyway?) of extended partition and then add all my new space as a 4th partition or expand this 4th partition to incorporate all my new space.  And then I think I need to format this partition as VMFS.  Then, #1 question: am I right on what do I do here?  Question #2: Someone can get me on the right track to find the exact command/syntax to do?

The other bad news is that it is a production box.  The good news is, I have very good before you start and working out of hours possible backups.  I could just save it, wipe it all out, start over and restore, but that will be my production box down for a few hours for you (in the middle of the night, but I'd still like to avoid this if possible).  I prefer to do over time much less down, and I think that there must be a way to do that, certainly, I can't be the first person to never weant to increase the DAS storage on a box of ESXi... Wipe-out/restoration is my backup plan in case I just spoil the process...

    Any help is greatly appreciated...

    Jim

You don't destroy your store of data through this approach. Everything that do you is delete and re-create the (larger) VMFS partition using fdisk. It won't hurt to the data on this VMFS partition (unless you change the boot block).

Buy a LABELER and label each disk cable and your data.  Then remove the drives.

Buy 2 NEW READERS INSTALL AND INITIALIZE THEM.

Then replace the old disk 1 and see if it will rebuild.

You can't rebuild on a raw disk, it needs to be initialized and ready to rebuild.

You get two discs, so you do not accidentally initialize icon who still has data.

RAID 1 is an exact copy (or mirror) of a set of data onto two disks or more; a classic RAID 1 mirrored pair contains two discs.

RAID 0 is scratched.  If you lose ANY player you write all data.

  • Equium L100-186 - memory expansion Question

    Hi all

I had my L100-186 satellite for over a year and have decided to upgrade the memory as the current 256 MB is quite poor.

I bought 2x1GB sticks and put them with no problem. Unfortunately it is not now start up. I returned two sticks, assuming that 1 was defective, but having received new sticks with the same problem, I guess that's not.

I tried the two stick in themselves and they work. They both work in each of the clips as well.

Someone has encountered this problem before, or someone has a solution to this problem?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Jon

Hmm. very strange if you use right and same modules, then the two should work without any problems.
The laptop is able to manage 2 GB (2 x 1024 MB) max modules.

What you could do is to test the two memory locations separately. There is a location may be defective?
    What do you think?

However, I found some information on the modules compatible and recommended, and it seems that the DDR2-533 1 GB (PA3411U-2M1G) module should work!
    You need exactly a DDR2 533 MHz (PC2-4200) 200 - PIN SODIMM modules

    Check it!

  • Is it REALLY bad and memory expansion question

Hello! Can I buy a 4 GB Fuze + and add a 32 GB card, right? I figured, but then saw a YouTube video where the guy says 'up to 16 GB".

Also - is that REALLY that bad player? It seems that people either love or hate... some reviews most recent seem to say that with the firmware updates, it is now well. But it's just very confused with the conflicting feelings...

The rocket + is compatible with microSDHC up to 32 GB full.

As a player, the rocket more is a decent machine with a different processor compared the Clip + and Clip Zip; He uses the device of Freescale. As such, it works a little differently.

I love its unique characteristics. It's great for photos and video, because it displays the images and video with a minimum of fuss. For podcasts and audio books, I really like its reading speed variable-it corrects the pitch, a feature others do not have.

The biggest difference is his tiny Synaptics touchpad, the source of most of the user problems, especially if you use the player on the go, since you cannot operate the control without looking at the player. Volume control using dedicated buttons, however.

The camera takes a little more time to update its database of music, so if you have decided to store a very large collection, especially with 32 GB cards available, this can be a problem. The rocket + handles the database of music unlike his sister of the players file.

Overall, this is a really nice player, and its sound is clean, indeed, on par with models of Clip for sure.

  • Can the server PowerEdge T110 II add a network card?

    Hello

I need an additional NETWORK card for my T110II but it does not detect a TP-LINK TG-3468 PCI-express card.

Start the server, but I do not see the screen of boot rom (bios Integrated NIC) and Windows do not detect the new device.
The T110II do not recognize a card RAID SATA AS-Rock with boot rom too.

I think that the problem comes from the boot of these PCI-e cards rom. Is there a solution to detect these cards?
Or you know a network card compatible cheap gigabit?

I already asked my country DELL support, and I have no answer.

    Thank you

Sorry for the questions in the NETWORK card getting to work.  The system will certainly take additional network cards, the T110 II 4 PCIe slots:

    Two x 8 slots (one with x 16 connectors)

    One x 4 slot (with x 8 connector)

    A x 1 slot

The integrated port is the Broadcom® BCM5722 gigabit Ethernet card.  When it comes with Dell servers and 3rd-party cards, questions may arise if you have a network adapter that is certified to work with the device.  Dell cannot support the cards that are valid and tested within the server.

A very common that we see added to the system is the Broadcom 5709, NIC PCIE4 Dragonfly.  The card is popular because it can be associated with the on-board.

About your SATA RAID card, questions are the same it regarding uncertified maps.

Lastely, I would make sure you have cards in cracks, here is the link to the manual, System 68 page has details about the locations specific PCIe priority and system information

  • Sandy Bridge and PCI channels/performance question

I was doing emergency surgery on my old HP and I remembered that I have a couple of old graphics cards lying around. And that made me think of my collection in constant expansion of hard drives and never less in less free time, backups, and Sandy Bridge platform limited channels PCI and their (real? theoretical?) effect on performance with cards cards additional specifically RAID. If I'm covering old ground, let me know.

As I understand, there is not much to be gained by installing an old ATI HD2400 Pro or similar in a new computer, what I'm really wondering is - after installing the card and a third running monitor on it - of the main graphics card and related parts of my system would suffer a slowdown similar to what might be expected if a RAID card is installed.

(And no, I don't mean to revive the heated discussions of Sandy Bridge / X 58.) Is it you like someone ' one, anyone - let them be above!)

I am just wondering if it might be a worthwhile project to compare benchmarks with and without a second graphics card installed and if someone thinks it would be a logical way to see no effect on the allocation of 570's PCI channels alone, without the complication of a real external RAID array question (and the enormous benefits it would probably).

Very good new because this gives you plenty of options. With a BR burner installed you have 9 bays 5.25 "left.

It is to install 3 cages SuperMicro (you don't need to install them all at the same time, but nice for the future) to add up to 15 drives 3.25 "in hot swappable bays. Or you can choose to use two cages SuperMicro for 10 discs 3.25 "and add 3 Addonics cages for a 12 2.5" additional disks.

Lots of choices here and you is not really limited by your business. You may be in terms of cooling, however.

C: Velociraptor for OS & programs

D: 3 x Velociraptor in raid 5 on the mobo for the file exchange, media cache, this preview as you intend

E: initially 4 or 5 drives (1 or 2 TB, up to you) in raid 3 for media

RAID controller: Areca ARC-1680 iX-12 with 2 GB of cache ECC and BBM.

I suggest the version 12 in version 8, because he has the ability to extend the default cache 256 MB up to 4 GB, although one wonders if anything more than 2 GB is interesting, given the price difference between the 2 and 4 G sticks.

With this configuration, you have the option to add a multitude of disks to expand your storage space and increase the speed of your raid, if you wish.

So all that you need is that Supermicro two cages, disks and the Areca controller with cache and BBM.

    I hope this helps.

The T110 II is almost two years, then Yes, compared to 12 G systems, is using older hardware (I suspect that replacement is the T110 II should be out soon).  The S100/S110 is a special implementation of Intel RAID on board, so the S110 is not an option on the older boards that have the S100.

  • Qosmio G20: Question on the status of RAID

Small question. I want to determine if the RAID is completely disabled on my G20 (2 x 100 GB hard drives).

When I reinstalled the operating system from the recovery disks in the RAID set up, I chose the option of two independent hard drives so they now drive C & D with Mac on C and D data on.

If I go to the RAID console, it says "Can not get status", so I guess that the RAID is completely disabled but I wanted to just make sure.

    Thank you.

Yes, you are right. You need at least 2 disks for a raid configuration to choose two independent disks made (off since raid), and your raid is not enabled. Good day.
