Permit required for music I already own? -Media Player 12

When moving my music collection from my old PC to my new one I found that, when you try to play certain songs, I get a message saying "license - a license is required to play the selected song or video. However, a license for this file is not found, has expired or has been altered.    To obtain a license for this content, please visit the website or open the software application in which the file was uploaded originally. You may be required to open a session or buy the song or the video.
Some of these songs were stolen in a CD, I had over the years, that which some I have more. Others have been downloaded from Virgin Digital, which is no longer in existence. Then the message above does not apply to one of these groups, and frankly, I find it very embarrassing that I am being prevented from listening to music that I bought and paid for!
Someone has an answer to this?

You just got yourself in the most sensitive area of Digital Rights Management (DRM). Here's a quote for you to Web from Microsoft here:

This problem occurs because the Windows Media DRM system maintains information based on the hardware configuration of the computer. If some components are changed, Windows Media DRM may not work because he can see the change as an unauthorized attempt to move the content protected to a different computer.

This problem may occur if you have made one or more of the following changes to your computer hardware:

  • You recently changed hardware components, such as the CPU or the motherboard.
  • You have changed one of the settings of Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) your computer that affect hardware components, such as disabling CPU hyper-threading.
  • You moved the hard drive from one computer to another computer.

To resolve this problem, restore your computer to the hardware configuration of origin or on the original BIOS settings. OUCH!

If you can not fix as suggested in the line above, your best bet, if possible, is to connect to the online music store where you purchased the tracks and try to sync, in which case, the license is updated.

What should have happened until you have changed your hardware is backup of your licenses with Windows Media Player. This information is stored in the folder
%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Microsoft\Windows\DRM (example: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\DRM) which is a hidden folder.

  • Music streaming with Windows Media Player

Have a new Smart TV, try streaming music from my laptop to the tv using "Play To". Streaming is set to automatically allow devices to read my media' and device (Panasonic Viera 40AS640) options allow all rankings of custom files. When I select any file of music in my library, and then select "Play To" it connects to the device, but when you select the file to read the error message "Media is not available" appears under the title of the track, replace the title of the Album and the name of the artist.

Anyone know why this is happening and what I can do about it? Music plays well through Media Player to my PC speakers, I have Windows 7 and Media Player installed (Version 12).

The "Fix It" tool is useful and if the problem persists it is also running the tool from Microsoft FCS value too - follow the instructions on the page linked here...

Anyway - glad to hear it works fine now. Having finally got "play to" work I find I use it rarely - I only listen to music (to a Marantz music player) and "Airplay" is much better for it - he plays the Siamese tracks seamlessly, and I like the system of library iTunes also. That being said, I'd rather 'play to' work not!

  • can I sync music from my windws media player for my ipod nano 4 GB. When I press sync. Player is not my camera still recording, it is compatible

I am trying to sync music on my ipod and it is compatible but my media player has not listed it as a timing device.  It is recognized in the computer and peripheral but not in media player. Help, please

    Hello

I suggest you follow the steps below to synchronize your Ipod Nano with Windows Media Player 11.

    1. start Windows Vista. You need to have administrator privileges in order to synchronize your iPod, only access to the shared folder on the computer (by default, every account has access to the shared folder).

    2. connect your iPod to your computer using the supplied USB cable. If your iPod has not already been recognized as a device in the system, recognition will be held at the moment (requiring the installation of the drivers and software components that are necessary in order to recognize your iPod).

    3. place the music files you want to synchronize with your iPod in the shared folder. You can also place your music in a folder within the shared folder (for example, a 'My music' folder).

    4. open Sync Center by clicking on the "Start" menu followed by "All programs", "Accessories", then "Sync Center".

5 set up a calendar for your iPod to be synchronized or simply choose "Sync" in the file menu to start a manual synchronization. This will automatically update your iPod with the latest music from the shared folder.

    6. sync your iPod by using a double sync method, which will avoid any loss of data on the iPod as well as download the music from your iPod to your Sync Center, you can listen on your computer as well.

If you want to synchronize the Ipod Nano with iTunes, you can follow the instructions as shown in the link below.

I have a palm pre and for some reason I can't synchronize my palm to windows media player. The unit shows there is music on my phone but I can't access it. I tried to drag files from WMP directly, tried to drag the library Windows on the drive without success!

I'm doing something wrong? WMP is not recognized by palm?

I can do it with iTunes and MP3 sites, but these options are not easily available to me (they belong to friends!), can someone help please?

kellysedgeman, just a guess here, but are you sure that the files that you drag from WMP are mp3, and .wma files?

Windows Media Player is in default to copy the CD in wma files.  You must tell it to rip to mp3 files.  WMA files are not supported by the pre.

  • transfer music downloaded to Windows Media Player

I have Windows Media Player version 11.0.6002.18311 which I use to rip and burn music especially. When I download music, it usually goes in my folder of music on the hard disk and eventually finds his way in the WMP library. Sometimes I physically open it to give him a bit of a kick of thumb. But recently I downloaded an Album and tried to burn it with WMP, which can be fickle in the best of cases, and accidentally deleted in the process. After extraction and replacement of files in my music from the trash folder I can still play them on my computer through WMP, but I can't get back them in the library for some reason any. Can you please help.

Hi, I'm not trying to be difficult, but in my version of WMC, there is no option advanced under Tools, which in itself is already quite difficult to find, and I couldn't locate a topic "Organize" or whatever it is on the management of libraries, sorry.

You cannot view, add, or delete items in the library of Windows Media Player 11
