  August 18 at 14:49, I received a call from someone claiming to be a Microsoft technician. I barely understood what they said because there accent of the Middle East, but he said that it would be just a matter of time before my computer would crash because of the amount of errors on my computer. He then asked me to start my computer and to now hold the window by pressing the letter R and type eventvwr , and then press ok. A screen came up and on the upper left corner, was asked to support customs seen by double witch clicking grew to administrative activities and double-click on it. I was then invited to watch the center of the screen and above and asked if I could see administrative events and how much was there. I told her that there are 528 events. He then told me to scroll down on the list and all I could see were triangles (warnings) yellow and Red errors, 528 combined overall. He then told me that this list would continue to multiply until my computer would crash. He began to talk about a guarantee of microsoft which would prevent this list to build up again in the future. I told her that I had never heard of a software microsoft warranty. I asked him how this warranty was going to cost me, and he said it would be $ 109 for three years. First, I need to transfer control of my computer to a microsoft technical repairs and that I must leave my computer for a few hours, the time required to carry out all the repairs but first, I have to go to a website called www.ammyy.com . On this site, that I was told that I would be able to transfer control, and when repairs were fix, the technician would present me with a form, I have to fill in for Microsoft software guarantee for an amount of $ 109. I was wrong as well transfer controls because I started to suspect a fraud and I told him that I would not go further with that and that I was going to hang up the phone. His appeal is still on my phone but the number is not available so I can't remind him or provide Microsoft with phone number here. I hope that this information will be useful to Microsoft.

  Fake phone calls to technical support

  Calls unrequested telephone of this nature are almost always a common scam and are well known by Microsoft. Do not let them give any info, do not give access to your PC, not give them all the money and do not go to all the websites that they suggest. One moment.

• Phone call from "Windows"? -is it a scam?

  Today, I received a phone call from someone who said they were by Windows and that my PC has reported errors? They asked me to type in the menu "run" to display errors, and then they asked me to go to this site http://www.teamviewer.com/en/index.aspx. I had to hang up at this point to come out but nobody knows nothing about this or received a phone call?

  It is a scam! Not to follow their instructions or advice and not to provide ANY information to them.

  Because they use the internet lines and/or phone to complete their fraud, there may be federal agencies in your country who are interested in discovering their calls. Their report directly to the appropriate agency if you feel you can contribute to their arrest and the charges.

  Microsoft do NOT pick up the phone and start dialing customers and never phones/e-mails asking for personal information or asking them to visit a web site! Please do not take into account these calls and hang up immediately.

• Phone call from Windows saying I had many junk files - is it a scam?

  I have Windows Vista HP on my laptop.  Last night, I received a phone call from someone who said he was from Windows & my computer is slow because I had so many unnecessary files.  I was skeptical, but he did as he asked, via start > computer > etc, then typed in 'unwanted Prefetch"as indicated by him who brought up a list of files, which many have been marked! Error.  He kept saying: ' Oh my God ' when I told him this topic, but that Windows could help solve this & not to worry.  Guests were about to happen, so I asked if I could remind him.  Wasn't the answer, but he was going to call again on Monday night.  "Are you in India?", I asked.  "No, Oxfordshire, but I'm of the India.".   I again asked her name/number - he said Sam Hoggard and began to give me the - 5210-01865 - number when my phone battery ran out and cut the call.

  I can't find that any info on this situation from the web, so my question is - is this likely to be a real call?  Windows are proactively calls users?

  Thank you for posting and this bring to our attention.  I can assure you that Microsoft DO NOT contact customers by phone this way.  The engineers of the technical support of Microsoft with customers by phone, only time is if the client contacts the help desk first and asks that we call them.  It looks like the command he had run just listed files but just to be on the safe side I am you provide a link to a post in our security and our Forum of privacy that deals to get rid of spyware or malicious software.  I highly recommend that you read and follow the instructions in the Microsoft MVPs.  The scans are free and I invite you to run all 3 they recommend.  Here is the link to this post:

  Let us know what are the scans.  If they detect viruses or software malware and you need assistance with remove them if please post a reply and let us know.  Make sure that you include the name of the detected virus/malware, error messages Word for word on the screen that you get, and a description of any behaviour of Bazaar that you noted with your computer.

  Keep us informed and, obviously, if this character happens to you call back do not respect its instructions!

• Phone call on Windows - legitimate errors?

  I just got a phone call, unsolicited, a woman claiming to represent 'Windows', noting that mistakes from my computers have been detected.  She was willing to provide the ID of the computer for the affected computers.  This sounds like I've been hacked.  Microsoft made the unsolicited calls?

  None of my firewall or Internet security suites save a problem.

  Unless you have a prepaid support contract with Microsoft, then Microsoft never call you about the problems with your PC.

  Without a doubt, it's just another scam.

  While your computer will download the files automatically to Microsoft to let them know when the problem occur (assuming that you have accepted the option of customer experience). However, all files that are downloaded are completely anonymous. Microsoft do not have an idea from the files, so all you should ask yourself is "how this woman knew had problems on your PC. The answer was a simple guess.

  As long as you don't give them access to your PC then you'll be fine.

  About a week or two ago, I received a call from someone who said it was the appeal of WINDOWS.  My PCwas work perfect, but I was told there were problems.

  I did not understand what problems he spoke and asked him if he had the right number.  He did not ask my number when I said that if I

  told him to send me a letterexplaining the problem, if something is wrong. Then, I clung to the top.  Is that what you received no other complaints like that?  The

  next time I used the PC, something is indeed wrong - it is very slow now.  I guess that Microsoft would call, not "windows".  In fact

  This is a scam and that is becoming more and more common lately. But even worse, if you let them into your computer, who knows what damage they did here or what confidential information they stole.

  So, if you did. I highly recommend that you do both of the following immediately:

  1 do a clean reinstall of Windows.

  2. change all your passwords, especially all of banks or other financial sites.

  It's a SCAM! Microsoft does not make that neither have they partners that do and don't they hire contractors or individuals or even to find volunteers to do. There are probably thousands of these companies out there do every day - we get two or three posts like this (or more) each day ask about it. You are lucky who have recognized the scam enough not to be sucked in and eventually identify theft, infections, hacking your computer, convince you to buy software or services you either did not need or that do not really exist at all and all sorts of nefarious stuff. You'd be surprised how much contact us AFTER THAT that they realized they had been duped asking what to do. Don't waste time talking to these people, not give them any personal information it is, don't be fooled by what they can get allows you to see on the computer - in fact, not do anything they suggest on your computer or even to visit Web sites they recommend and for the love of God don't give them access to your computer.

  Microsoft knows this is happening, but with these companies popping up like dandelions, or closing and changing names when discovered and operating mainly from abroad, it would take an army of lawyers to sue each other. They do the best they can, but they are just too many and more added every day. People need to pay attention to these things. They occur not only by telephone, but also by e-mail, instant messaging, mail and all the ways imaginable. Forget not that Microsoft doesn't this and hang up or remove the emails or messages or mail from someone claiming that they do because they know the information on your computer or that you want to get information from you to confirm your account so that it will not be closed and asking you your name of user and password and all sorts of other personal information. Microsoft DO NOT!

  I just got a phone call from a man named Philippe de Windows Support. He said that he was receiving reports of errors in my windows and asked me to check Computer Management Applications to find errors. He asked me to remove these errors. I could not remove so he said: if I went to a Web site that he could delete them for me. I refused to let him to the computer via the code and said that I would like to remind him. His number was 02032865123, he said, that it has been supported Windows. He had an Indian accent. It is a call?

  This is HOAX and FAKE for sure. Microsoft will never contact you unless call you them first and ask for help. Microsoft will never know which PC encourage error.

• Received a phone call about Microsoft Security Essentals scam

  I got caught in this scam. I received a phone call and allowed access and paid by credit card for the technician assumed to install at a price of 210 euros microsoft security essentials software and another program called registry reviver.

  I was taken because my laptop was able to test reports errors and at times he would go blue and then to restart and so I fell for the scam. They were very professional and answered all quries that I had.

  Please tell what should I do now and what they might do with my information.

  In my opinion, I had to cancel the credit card used to make the purchase and see if you can return that money to the CC company. Then I would run a full scan using Microsoft Malware removal tool.

  I just got a call stating that they checked on errors reported from my computer, and then asked me to go my computer for the filter current log page... are they legitimate?

  She asked me to work my way to the page "Filter current log" and then left-click on 'critical' 'warning' and 'error '.

  I told him I had another call, had to leave. (It was for me to check on the ligitimacy of this call before doing anything to my laptop)

  The initial phone call showed as being of CA, but when I asked for a number to call back on, I was given a 01 number.

  Calls - call display unknown name showed & number.  Said I was outside and I could take a message :)

  I was just called by what looked like a firm technical overeas stating that my computer has not received the automatic updates. It sounded like a scam, so I put the phone down. Anyone else had a similar experience? I notice that my computer has not received an update since April 24, but it was checked this morning and indicates that there are no new updates available at this time. I'm puzzled.   Unfortunately, this is one of the many scams Microsoft Windows which is in circulation. You were wise to put the phone down on these people. Whatever they want basically is access to personal data on your PC, for example, the passwords, bank details etc.

  Just to set the record straight, Microsoft will contact you about problems with your PC UNLESS you have a contract to support prepaid with them.
