Photo Gallery crashes

In recent months, Gallery of photos Windows (and Live Photo Gallery) began crashing no particular reason - just when you browse the gallery. I tried to update the database, but it works for a short period. I read that the codecs can sometimes be a problem with video files, but I only installed the Vista Codec Pack. The crash report that library throws up is:

It's very frustrating because we use it (so far) great program for all our media cataloging and marking, and we do not want to change.  We run Vista SP1 from HP. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    a. click on the round of departure
    b. type folder options in the search box, and then click the program folder Options
    c. Select the view tab
    d. in the window of advanced settings, under hidden files and folders, select Show files and folders

For Windows Photo Gallery... just change the path:

    XP
    C:\Documents and Settings\ > user name<\Local>
    Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Photo Gallery

    Vista
    %UserProfile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows photo Gallery

After Renaming Pictures.pd4 you will need to re-catalogue
your photos and some tags may be lost. If the name change
Pictures.PD4 does not solve the problem... you can delete
the new Pictures.pd4 file and change the name of the
origin to Pictures.pd4 and the catalog file should
    be restored.

In later versions of Windows Live Photo Gallery...
the name of the file is Pictures.pd5.
