Photo xfer on new computer projects

Moving from old MBP to new iMac. I decided not to use the Migration Wizard, but pure install. For Photos, I left iCloud fill the new iMac (meaning I have not even copy on the old file Photos Library.photoslibrary.) The only thing that does not transfer to the new iMac (that I know) are projects. I had done some books on the old MBP, and lists of projects don't transfer via. Is it possible that I can get just those old MBP and move them to the new iMac (without having to transfer the entire .photoslibrary file?

as you have noticed, iCloud library do not transfer projects and faces, see:

Use iCloud photo library on several Mac - Apple Support computers and Photos

Is it possible that I can get just those old MBP and move them to the new iMac (without having to transfer the entire .photoslibrary file?

Projects may be transferred as part of a library.

You can copy the library of photos on an external drive and delete all albums and photos that are not necessary for your projects and can transfer only that trimmed photo library.

    ===========================================
Sorry, but I don't have the exact solution for re - associate the
originals with edited versions.  The only thing I would like to know
to try would be to place the originals in the original Images
    folder on the new system.

Maybe... I say just that maybe if you copied the photo gallery
exclusive database of the old system and used it to replace
the database on the new system. (Just copy and paste the file in)
the appropriate on the new system folder, and when you see
... dialog box you want to replace? with? Select Yes.

Also... you could instead of replace your new database...
rename it... Pictures.OLD for example. So if the replacement
do not re - associate files... you can remove the replacement
and rename the OLD version in what it was and the Gallery
must be as it was before the change.

Depending on the version of your photo gallery might be the database
    Pictures.PD5, Pictures.pd6, Pictures.pd7...

The path to the version of Win XP is:

    C:\Documents and Settings\ > user name<\Local>
    Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Live Photo Gallery\
    Pictures.PD4, Pictures.pd5 or Pictures.pd6

    Windows Vista:

    C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\
    Windows Photo Gallery\Pictures.pd4 or pd5 pd6

    Windows 7:

    Windows\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\
    Windows Live Photo Gallery\Pictures.pd6

(Sorry, but I'm not sure of the path in Windows 8 but if you)
do a search for PD6 PD7, you should be able to find it.

The former article is a user experience
with the shifting of the database... maybe it would offer a few ideas:

  • Am new computer... How can I copy photos and letters of words from microsoft of old computer until I've set up a new.

New to this... to save the old letters I "crushed" the years and the photos saved on my old 2003 computer Gateway with XP.  Cannot find how to back up the info.      wouldn't go down old computer before doing this.    New computer YES... HP smart Touch with screen 23 inches.    Help someone?

It all depends on where the data is stored. Microsoft recommends storing files of photos under "My pictures" and Word files under 'My Documents' if it's your daily practice, backup the contents of these files to a Flash DRIVE or online and then recovery on the new computer will do the trick.

If the storage in the folders mentioned above is not your practice, it's more time-comsuming.

    For Word files:

    1. click on start

    2. click on search

    3. click on "all files and folders".

    4. type (without quotes) ".doc".

    5. click on search

6 hover mouse on one of the results until the highlight

    7. on the keyboard, press the CTRL and. Everything is selected

    8. on the keyboard, press the Ctrl and C keys. Everything is copied

Put on your backup media and on the keyboard, press the Ctrl and C keys. Everything is stuck

    For photo files:

    1. click on start

    2. click on search

    3. click on ' Photos, music or videos.

    4. click on "Images and pictures.

    5. click on search

Stick the USB drive in the new computer and copy.

Otherwise, you can save online and retrieve files on the new computer.

If your computers are on a network, it is even simpler.

Windows easy transfer is the easiest method, assuming that you know where all the files are located.

    Hope this helps

  • new computer... photos now on D drive... on C previously... lightroom cannot find them

My old computer had a diving C only.  All the photos and lightroom saved on the C drive.  On the new computer OS on C, all documents, photos etc on D.  Lightroom displays more my files.  How can I fix it?

Are the images in the same folder on the D drive structure as they were when they were on the C drive? If this isn't the case, then you must place them in the same structure.

If when the C they were in C:\Users\YourUserName\Pictures\Lightroom and then some subfolders they need it then the same D:\Lightroom\ structure files, same subfolders.

Otherwise, you will have to reconnect them individually or by new subfolders, they are now in.

  • Problem: Editing and original photos transferred from the old to the new computer

He had previously installed on my old computer.  On my old computer I could see my photos modified 42000.  On the new computer, I see now more than 85000 pictures.  I have my edited each image and the original unedited version.  Is there an easy way to remove the photos so that I'm alone with my modified photos?  This has happened once before when I got a new computer and I deleted the unseen photos, one at a time (there were only 5000 photos at the time).  Help please.  It will take me an eternity to eliminate more than 40000 photos one at a time.  PS I'm almost 70 years old and not very computer.

    Number of questions:

How to transfer your files, photos and catalog to the new computer? I suppose that use you the recommended backup / restore process:

Displacement of Adobe elements Organizer catalog by using the backup and restore | Photoshop and first Elements 6 or later version

You see 85000 files count in the organizer or in your browser (explore / finder)?

I also assume that your modified photos appear in 'version sets' in the Organizer?

If so, there is a faster way to keep only the edited version.

I have a problem of my catalogs of PES 10 displacement and the photos attached from my old computer with Windows XP on my new computer with Windows 10.  How can I keep my original photo folders tree arrangement when I restore backups of catalog on the new machine?

The problem arises because Windows 10 is equipped with a new tree structure with new names for many of its branches.  Tree of Windows XP starts to Local Disk (C), and then does the following: Documents and settings, Susan [it's me the user], My Documents, SusanPhotos (the folder that I created that contains my photos) and then several subfolders and subfolders with my photos grouped by theme, for example the Puglia Italy and Italy-Roma.  My new computer Windows 10 has a different tree and different names for a large number of branches from early on: OS (C) [instead of Local Disk (C)], users, Susan, Documents [instead of the old My Documents], SusanPhotos [what I created] and then the subfolders and so on.

Because of the new tree and the new names of the branch, I can't find a way to restore my PES 10 catalogues and photos attached to them to where I want to that they.  What I want to do is put the files from SusanPhotos to the Windows 10 Documents folder so that I find myself with the following tree, essentially the same as what I had on my old machine: OS (C), users, Documents, Susan, SusanPhotos, then the original subfolders with my photos.  Apparently 10 PSE does not allow me to move folders of photos in the Organizer, so that the pictures stay connected.

PES 10 offers 3 options for restoration: Original, personalized and customized, keeping the original structure of the file.  Here's what happens to each:

    (1) original creates new folders with the old names and the structure of the tree, parallel to the tree Windows 10 has instead of inside the tree Windows 10.

    (2) custom with the original structure of the file is the restaurant where I want (within the SusanPhotos) but retains all branches superfluous-instant initial tree of Windows XP, production: BONES (C), users, Documents, Susan, SusanPhotos, Documents and settings [carried over from the old computer], Susan, My Documents, SusanPhotos, Roma-Italy and Italy-Puglia and so on.

    (3) custom (without checking the original file structure box) makes every SusanPhotos but without any organization: OS (C),..., SusanPhotos, Italy-Puglia and Italy-Roma and all other folders at the same level instead of in their original nested groups with subfolders.

The first two methods you end up with a tree that is chaotic with two parallel trunks or a single trunk but with several redundant layers carried over from the old computer.  The third ends with no tree at all.

One solution would be to make a Custom Restore with the original structure of the file and then use PSE10 to move the folders that I would like.  However, AFAIK, PSE10 I cannot move entire folders of photos, only of individual pictures.  With thousands of photos in hundreds of cases, the time required for the movement of individual pictures is prohibitive.  PSE10 allows me to move the catalog folder, but apparently not the folders containing the photos.

The result is that at this time I have no solution to my problem.  Can you help me find a way to restore my photos while keeping their original organization?

One solution would be to make a Custom Restore with the original structure of the file and then use PSE10 to move the folders that I would like.  However, AFAIK, PSE10 I cannot move entire folders of photos, only of individual pictures.

You simply use the 'Files' Panel on the left. Your folder tree appears. Simply, you drag and drop the folder to move with all its subfolders in the desired master file. That works exactly as in Solution Explorer, so be patient, you receive no message of progress until it is completed.

You did a good job to understand the situation. I think that might help you is to understand that changes in the way default folders are created in a different version of Windows can be ignored if you do not use these structure 'default', from the shortcuts to your main folder of the user.

I create a master folder 'My Photos' directly under the C: root.

When I restore, I use the "custom" choice, as you have discovered, I only specify this folder in the restore process, and I completely ignore the default shortcuts to 'Documents' or 'Image '.
