Photos library forgotten intermittently in iMovie

Hey everybody!

I'm helping a friend with his computer which is having a weird problem where iMovie forget intermittently the computer's default photo library.

I searched the forums and feel a little Google-Fu to no results. Hoping that someone here has heard of him and can help.

Hardware specifications:

iMac 21.5 "(retina 4K, end of 2015)"

3.3 Intel Core i7, 16GB, Iris Pro graphic 6200

10.11.5 OSX

Photos Version: 1.5 (370.42.0)

Version of iMovie: 10.1.2

Symptom of failure:

When you open iMovie library of Photos may not appear in the sidebar called "libraries."

Friend is then unable to take pictures from Photos to slide directly into the timeline without doing it manually by moving pictures on the desktop, then in iMovie.

Temporary difficulties (though not ideal):

Opening and closing iMovie has 50-75% likely to appear at the library.

Notes:

1. a friend has a large library of Photos (600 GB and more) of his travels and compiles pictures and videos to family and friends.

2. due to the huge amount of space needed for ALL of its data/backups (not only the pictures), she was sold and configure a Lacie 5big network RAID (20 to total)

3. the iMac internal 2 TB HDD software account and installed OSX. Its Home folder is located in the 5Big and OSX heading towards it.

4. the question is extremely intermittent, opening and closing of the application while the photo library is present can remove next time, iMovie is open.

Things I've tried:

-Creation of a new library of Photos (empty) adding like 20 pictures and then defines it as the default library in preferences. (Question persists)

-Updated all updates of software available.

-Re-install OSX 10.11 and then upgrade to 10.11.5 again.

-Checked to make sure that 5Big is not put the discs "to sleep" after a while, removing the connection to OSX. (It is not)

-Check all the cables and connections to make sure that the drive is connected properly and safely.

-Machine closed down, started 5Big first, he gave 10-15 seconds to establish and then lit iMac to see if OSX has had enough time to 'find' the iMovie library.

-Make sure that the Photos (the application) is closed before opening iMovie, tried also with Photos open before you open iMovie. (Issue still present in both scenarios)

I guess something is in conflict with OSX and RAID 5Big... but I have no idea where to start looking.

Help, please! Please and thank you!

Aaron.

Aaron, your friend already tried to repair the photo library?   Repair is described on this help page: repair your library

https://help.Apple.com/photos/Mac/1.0/?lang=en#/pht6be18f93

The external drive file system is compatible with Photos for Mac?  If the format of the disc is not Mac OS extended (journaled) it won't work perfectly.

And the complete folder on this drive?  How was the link created?  What is the home folder encrypted by safe?

In iMovie-> my media-> library, I have NO 'Libraries of Photos' for some reason any.

    Here's what iMovie should resemble:

    Thank you!

    Brad

The library of photos that shows in iMovie is the designated as library system in photos app preferences. I guess that is ok for you as I assume that your question that photo library showed upward in iMovie for you in the past since you said how to get that back. This is a known problem that the photo library is intermittently showing in iMovie. A solution that seems to work is to open the pictures before you open iMovie. For your multiple iMovie libraries, it is possible that when you updated to iMovie, you had an iMovieProjects folder and the iMovieEvents folder on more than one player?

  • Photos of the app and iMovie problems

In iPhoto, you can drag and drop files directly into iMovie, but since I have upgraded to the new Photos app I have to drag on the desktop then in iMovie. Does anyone know a fix for this... If it exists?

Your system photo library must appear in iMovie with your other libraries (such as iTunes) in the list in the upper right panel, avoiding any need of drag-and - drop.

  • I DELETED VIDEOS FROM PHOTO LIBRARY AND THEY REMOVED OFF THE COAST OF IMOVIE!

So I was about to export a video to my iphone out of storage ram. So I decided to remove the videos from the library until I discovered, it removes off imovie! I didn't know that! Like imovie takes lots of storage. I deleted the videos of recently deleted, so now they are gone!

Is it possible to restore them?

And if you're advising me to download something, no malware or viruses please.

If you have enabled iCloud photo library, that's how he wanted to work. iCPL synchronizes all changes and actions, including deletions, across all your devices and computers.

The only way for you to restore these files is from a backup, preferably on your computer.

  • How can I get the iMovie video files in the photo library?

How can I get the video files of "iMovie - bibliotek.imovielibrary" in the photo library?

Is to select your library from the libraries pane and choose my brackets at the top of the screen. Then select the clips you want and share file on the desktop. Then import in photos.

  • My iMovie includes an iPhoto library but not my photo library. How do I update to include Photos?

I didn't use iMovie for awhile, but have been the installation of the updates. Now, I want to start a new project with pictures of my request for Photos. The photo library is not displayed in the list of iMovie libraries. How do you get pictures of Photos for use in iMovie?

Try opening the pictures before you open iMovie. Some reported that they can open pictures and close it, and then open iMovie. IMovie is inconsistent about the display of the photo library, sometimes it works ok and other times it is necessary to open the first photos to iMovie of wake-up call that it is all over.

  • iMovie and photo library

How can I open my of Foto-photoslibrary in iMovie (10.2.2 It is gray and I cannot import into iMovie.

You do not import the photo library in iMovie. iMovie automatically displays the photo library. When you say that it is grey, I assume you mean in the preferences of Photos. This means that it is the library system, which is what you want. If you don't see the photo library in the library list in iMovie try opening the pictures before you launch iMovie.

  • I can tell iMovie 10.1.2 that my photo library is located on an external drive?

Hello, since the 10.1.2 update my library of Photos became invisible to iMovie.

Other threads indicate clear that it shouldn't be.

I think that the reason is that it is on an external drive, but iMovie does not detect.

Is that what I can do about it? My internal drive does not have a sufficient space.

Your photo library is designated as the library systems? In preferences/general pictures you can see the location of your photo library opened and select it in the library system. If it's already the library system, using as the library system will be grayed out. The library on an external drive should not be a problem for iMovie.

I deleted all of my photo, My Photo Stream etc. flows including shared library iCloud.

I have also ensured that the recently deleted album is empty. I disabled iCloud photo library on each device. It should not be a trace of left.

However, I always told my library back 1.9 GB of my storage iCloud. There is an option to turn it off completely but it will take 30 days, which is a long wait when I don't know if it will work.

  • iCloud library download not any photo library

    Hello

I decided to start using iCloud photo library, so I checked the option "Préférences"-> "iCloud" Photos (version 2.0). He started to download items very well, but I noticed it is not downloading the entire library of Photos. My photo library contains 7065 photos and 151 videos, but Photos only started to load about 2500 points on iCloud library after activating what is 16.5 GB (see screenshots). When you look at the size of "Library.photoslibrary Photos" is 46.5. Does anyone know a reason for this difference? Thank you

It'll take some time according to the signal from your ISP and Wi - Fi.  Make sure that your signal is good.

  • Not recognized by Word or Photoshop photo library

Work on a MacBook and recently installed Sierra 10.12.  Everything worked fine until all applications 3rd party such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint, (office 11 14.6.8), Photoshop Elements 10 has ceased to recognize the new photo library.  iPhoto and photo booth developed but not the photo library itself. The actual program pictures works fine. I also see the library by email and online (as a download on shutterfly). 2 hrs with tech does support last night and 3 people later no resolution.  Reinstalled Sierra. No change. Everything is updated.

Just weird it was working one day then stopped working the next day.

Any suggestions besides to annihilate the entire disk?

How you are trying to access your photos? Directly (which is not possible) or by using the media browser?

a work around is to export the photos (menu, file == > export) to a folder on the desktop and use there

  • Should I Photostream if I use iCloud photo library

Hi, I use iCloud library on my MBP, two iPhones and iPad and I still active Photostream.

I'll try to find our knowledge if I need Photostream as well as use iCloud.  I have more than enough storage for the moment in the cloud then from what I can tell Photostream is not something that would fail me if I turned it off.  At the same time, I can't find a definitive answer anywhere!

Grateful that if ever I decide to stop using the cloud, I can turn Photostream for my last few thousand photos.

I also try to work if there is anyway that I can reduce the amount of space on my iPhone which currently takes about 13 GB of photo library.

    Any help would be welcome.

    Thank you

    Matt

If you do not use my Photo Stream, turn off all devices.

You need my photo only, stream if you also use older devices with iOS 7 or more, which can not support iCloud photo library. But if all your devices are set to synchronize with iCloud photo library, you don't need my photo stream. It might even cause problems.

  • Relink 'Library of Photos' to iCloud photo library

This question relates to a clean install of Mac OS Sierra

I have my library of Photos in pictures file, and there all my uploaded images. When I format my computer, how can I create a link to this file with iCloud photo library, so I don't have to download anything new?

I still did not understand the exact procedure for this and want to avoid download it all again as I have in the past. There must be a way to link to the top, since I downloaded them all already.

    You can not

If you restore a library or repair one that it triggers a total upload to make sure that everything is in harmony, there is no way to avoid that - you just start a new library and let ICPL fill the iCloud - he loses people and all

  • How to separate the Raw files of the photo library

My photo library is over 700 GB. I have a lot of raw files that are 30 MB or more. How can we separate the raw files in a separate file or a separate library?

Duplicate your photos library in the Finder and then remove all the BULLIES of the first library photos and all photos that are not the RAW files of the second library.

You can search for RAW photos with a smart album:

    File > new Smart Album

Then set the rule set to "picture is GROSS."

Of the other library use the rule 'The Photo is not BELIEVED'.
