Photosmart D5160: d5160

3 days after printing on several CD via the box the printer stopped and upward came flashing light.

HP Solution Center gave me 'Problem of cartridge' message on the left hand (Tri Color) cartridge.

HP Print and Scan Doctor gave the same error.

Uninstall, reinstall, same problem.

Reset via a power all night... same error. Tried new cartridge. Cleaning the contacts electrical cartridge tried. The same problem.

USB power down reset and disconnected... the same problem. Therefore, the printer itself

Then begins the strangeness. A material that test using OK + works (sometimes)! The result is a perfect impression. The red LED stops flashing. Left cartridge error clears. Everything looks OK.

For about 10 seconds. When the cartridges Park the Red led starts flashing and the cartridge lcd error return upward.

Stranger still. I tried a self-test with USB connected and immediately (within seconds) after the self-test of the printer worked perfectly and some text printed!

If the printer can print. There is ink in the cartridges. But I can't use it. Any help appreciated.

BTW, the test included a lot of numbers and a few "event system". Anyone know what they mean?

TIA

Tony

Hello Gemini,

Thank you for your answer and the link.

First of all, I'm using remanufactured cartridges. I tried the contact cleaning steps yesterday with no effect, it's cartridges and printer contacts... yes I used water distilled.  I have tried 3 different brands third without effect. Also tried to reset power off. I just gave it a try more. Still no effect and started typing this message...

After a few minutes, I looked around the printer and saw the red light was not blinking and error messages that have been deleted. A test page printed from the PC worked OK! So, problem solved, thank you very much. This printer has been excellent for years and I wouldn't needlessly it's bin.

I still have questions, however.

Why are there the error status took so long to clear? If this is normal, then such a delay can be very confusing when troubleshooting by reversing the cartridges etc.

Some errors of locking or set flags to a hard reset is required to make them disappear?

I'm going to accept as a solution, I cross my fingers the question does not return as soon as I do that

  • Printer Photosmart D5160

    Dear Sir.

A couple of days, I installed a new desktop computer with windows 8.1. In the past, I have worked with windows XP and can print directly on my cd/dvd. But now with windows 8.1 this will not work. The printer, but works very well. Should I upgrade my Photosmart D5160 printer with new software for printing directly on my cd/dvd?

Thank you for your response. I don't want to have two printers, no room enough, so I'll buy another.

  • Can't print CD/DVD Photosmart D5160

I have a new Mac OS X version 10.6.6. I was able to print directly on CD/DVD with my old Mac, using the HP Photosmart D5160 printer and printer DVD tray.  Not the same with the new Mac.  HP Photosmart create Mode, I chose to create a label, select the label of CD/DVD of 5 inches, but I cannot even enter text in the text box and when I choose 'print', I simply get the wheel spinning forever and if I force quit.

I checked my HP manual, online, Apple support, this forum and I still cannot find a solution to this problem.  An idea / solutions out there?

Thanks MB Justice and Printdoc for your help.  The additional hotfix, I managed!  For others who might see these messages, I would say follow Printdocs instructions in the post #4 with a change.  After uninstalling your software and then reinstall your software from the original CD, following with an installation of the update to it, contained in MBJustice msg #9 of this string.

    Eternally grateful

  • Photosmart D5160 with Windows 7; Unable to print on CD/DVD

I installed my Photosmart D5160 on my new HPE180t.  I used the "HP Photosmart and Deskjet full feature software and drivers" for Windows 7 64-bit.  Before, with Windows XP and HP Photosmart first, I was able to print on a CD/DVD.  Now, HP Photosmart Essential replaced HP Photosmart first, and I'm unable to print on CD/DVD.

This same question was also documented on this forum, but no resolution found: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-All-in-One-Install-and/Photosmart-D5160/m-p/154007/highlight/tr...

I chatted with HP Technical Support online and they had me install Roxio Express Labeler for Windows Vista and run it in compatibility mode.  The result was that I was able to print on a CD/DVD, but the image has been moved to the top.  HP technical support said that I should buy a third-party CD/DVD printing software and they suggested call me Nero to determine what software to use.

    My questions:

    1. is this a known problem, the fact that the D5160 impossible to print on CD/DVD with Photosmart Essential and Windows 7?

    2. If someone has had this problem, what do you do to solve the problem?

    3. Another option would be to buy a new HP printer that prints on CD/DVD?  If so, what printer?

    Thank you very much

    new computer: HPE-180 t, Windows 7 Pro (64 bit), Nvidia GeForce GT 220, Intel Core i7 - 930 quad-core CPU @ 2.80 GHz, 8 GB of RAM

That's what I did to solve my problem:

    1. buy a HP Photosmart D7560 h

2 use Windows Photo Viewer to print on CD/DVD

Note 1: The only way to buy the HP Photosmart D7560 h through HP's through its "upgrade" program, because this printer is no longer available via the HP shopping site.  Do NOT buy the D7560 h through the 'upgrade' of HP program because you will receive a refurbished printer.  After talking with the resolution of HP service, they advised me to buy this printer to a retailer who sells this printer yet.  I bought my new HP Photosmart D7560 h from newegg.com.

Note 2: This printer (D7560 h) also uses the HP Photosmart Essential 3.5 when you use Windows 7, like the HP D5160.  When I installed the EP 3.5 and only had a printer is installed (as opposed to a printer and scanner HP), the 3.5 HP allow for printing on CD/DVD via the HP Solution Center.  The problem (not being able to print on CD/DVD via PE 3.5) occurred when I plugged in and installed my HP Scanjet G4050 scanner, which also uses the HP Solution Center.

Note 3: I believe tha the D5160 could work with Windows 7.  It may be able to print on a CD/DVD, if you do not have an another printer/scanner HP device installed on your computer.  It may be able to print on a CD/DVD using the Windows Photo Viewer.

Note 4: To replace the cartridges of 5 ink (XL) on the HP Photosmart D7560 h, it costs a total of $115.

Let me know if you have any other questions.  Bottom line... I am able to print on CD/DVD with the D7560 h on Windows 7 operating system but I don't have to use the Photo of Windows display program.

    Take care

  • HP Photosmart D5160 prints everything in red only

My Photosmart D5160 started printing everything in red. In any document (usually, we print our business letters in black only) red.

The standard Test page printed from the PROPERTIES tab is completely red, although the Windows logo in the upper right shows a hint of pink and yellow.

What happened when the cartridges, color and black (genuine HP 344 and 337 respectively) were half full. There is no error message on the D5160 Billboard and the LEVELS of INK display this ink in both.

There is no configuration setting I see requiring everything to be printed in red.

I tried a download of the latest driver from HP site... Basic installation failed half way through.

Then I uninstalled all HP software, removed the printer and tried a reinstall of the base on the site of HP driver (I have more... lost installation CD)... It seemed to work and at the end of the process, it will automatically restart the PC. When Windows came back to the top, it says the installation failed, then he collected information about the problem, sent automatically to Microsoft to see if there is a fix for this problem. He returned and downloaded a fix for the "problem"... Unfortunately, I didn't record what was the known problem. Hotfix installation failed thus leaving me with no printer at all.

I ran a system restore available promptly to see if I could restore to before the problem of red (I don't remember when he did) - system restore worked and I have a printer installed again, but she still print red only. Red is now counted - so I have cartridges that have a lot of ink, but as the Red runs, I can't print anything.

Anyone has any idea what the hell is wrong?

    Thank you

p.s. I'm under Windows XP Home V2002 SP3 with all the latest Microsoft patches up-to-date.

Try to print a self-test of the only printer page. Maybe it's a hardware problem with the printer itself. If you print the test page and you get the same results in RED, while this isn't your software, it has something to do with your cartridge or print head.

Even so, full to halfway, you can try to replace the cartridges and see if you get the same result. If you get the same result, it will be your print head.

  • Photosmart D5160 randomly disconnects. All of the solutions posted, followed by new ideas?

Basically, the printer continues to go randomly on and off line. Even when he is online, when I click on the button "print" of the computer, the printer then goes offline! Sometimes it - if you're lucky, but the times are very rare! The printer has not been damaged or something like that and this problem started just by itself. Seems a shame to dump the printer when it actually works.

I use an iMac G4 PPC running OS 10.4.11. I searched the previous posts on this problem, but none have been resolved. I have followed the steps of troubleshooting HP, reinstalled the drivers, made the 'power brains' a few times, plugged the power directly on the wall (not a surge-protected power strip) and still nothing. I changed the USB and power cables, changed the USB port plugs on, in fact, I did everything suggested. I am quite fit to using a Mac so I've done everything I can think of, such as deleting the prefs etc.. I even tried to use it with my Macbook, and it does the same thing!

    Any suggestions?

    widgets10,

  • New D5160 ink cartridges will not work

My printer photosmart D5160 HP need of ink so I bought the black (98) and three color (95) and install. They have not been rewarded. I used the tool kit to see if the ink levels are detected and no cartridge is detected. Red Exclaimation of printer lite flashes. I have several times gone out cartridges, cleaned the contacts and install. I turned off the printer, waited 10-15 minutes and turned it back. Still nothing. I had this problem 2 years when I replaced the cartridges but ultimately the printer detects them. I have a problem with the cartridges I bought or is it the printert? Everything was good with printing until I became a faded print copy and decided to change the cartridge. No error message, no flashing lites. As soon as I removed the old cartridge and reinstalled - it's at the beginning of this flashing red exclaimation lite.

I am running Windows XP HD on a Toshiba laptop. I hope I have provided enough information for someone who could help me.

I got a solution to my problem thanks to Advanced Tech Support with HP. Did you know that the printers are defined at the regional level? Yes, indeed. USA is region 1 and region 2 is Europe. It is defined by the settings of the software. HP has kindly give me the region codes to reset my printer to region 1 USA bought German so he will accept cartridges USA version. Perhaps in the future these regions will disappear and the world community, that we all will be Preval? In any case, Bravo to the team Advanced Support HP that has therefore reactivated me.

  • D5160 - out printed striped, even after cleaning and replacement of cartridges

    THE SYSTEM CONFIGURATION:

    1. I bought my HP Photosmart D5160 (12/20/06) more than 3 years ago.

    2. I use ink cartridges only HP (98 for black, 95 for tricolor).

    3. I print photos on photo paper professional glossy inkjet.

    BEFORE THE PROBLEM:

    1. until a few months ago, I've been printing photos without flaw with the parameters mentioned above.

    2. sometimes after HP new installation of ink cartridges, a printed photo will print with streaks.  To resolve this problem, I would be 'Clean the print cartridges' through the 'HP Photosmart D5100 Toolbox series' and the photos would then print flawlessly.

    PROBLEM:

    1. beginning about two months ago, I am unable to have my photos Print flawlessly.  Photos Print consistently with some scratches.  I use the same paper, as I always have.  I buy HP ink cartridges at the same address as I always have.

2 using the HP Photosmart D5100 series 'Toolbox', I clean the ink cartridges and make an intermediate clean, then a first.  Problem remains.

    3. I then cleaned the cartridges manually by the doc following HP (http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01711664), but the problem remains.

    4. I then replaced black and the tricolor ink cartridges and the problem remains.

    QUESTION:

It is time to buy a new printer or is there something else I can try?

    Thank you

  • Window printing preferences Photosmart 5520

The Properties window of the printer for my D5160 late used to look something like this:

By comparing the Properties window of the printer (for example, the inside Word on my Vista PC) for my new 5520 new seems very basic:

This brings me to wonder if I had installed the complete driver.  I installed from the CD.  It seems a lot more hostile user driver D5160 who introduced many shortcuts with icons to quickly access the print speed, better printing, photo, etc. with the drop down menus to further customize the settings and the ability to save settings customized on a screen.  I'm sure all the same options are there in the new driver but not too easily accessible, certainly for others less users lean back on my computer and there seems to be no way to save the custom settings.

Can anyone say if this is the best I can expect, or I missed something out somewhere during the installation and there is a more user-friendly version?

There has been some changes in how drivers are designed for the for the 5520 Photosmart D5160.

Some of these changes have taken place for many different reasons, but one of them is that many of these options are integrated into the software normally used for printing. Many of these custom settings are in programs such as Microsoft Word and photo printing software. Instead of doubling these services and leading to conflicts of drivers, these options were left more to the software providing information for the print driver on is made on the rear part.

It is the correct printing preferences screen for Photosmart HP 5520. I hope this helps.

  • Printing problems

I have a Photosmart D5160 and it will not print black. Color is fine, but when you print a black-and-white document it prints nothing. The cartridges are both complete and there is no error coming. I did the test pages, but this color shows only. Any ideas? I wrote to HP and have heard nothing back. To make a call to the technology Office cost 60 p per minute. I hope someone knows the answer to save me a quid.

The print head is part of the ink cartridge.  If you are replacing the black cartridge will result in a fresh print head.  If the black cartridge is aged one year and as the original, I guess that it is not full.  One thing to check - Remove the cartridge and it spot on a damp cloth.  If you do not get a high spot of ink cartridge empty is likely or obstructed.  Even if the cartrdige were clogged I would expect some nozzles to work, my guess would be so empty a cartrdige.

Can you suggest a source for a maintenance/repair for the D5160 manual?

If I can access and remove the roller of pickup/feedingstuffs having failed, and identify the part number, is there a source for these parts?

    Hi Ray,

We do not recommend trying to fix your printer this way. Also it is not anywhere you can get parts of this type. If you like this model of the printer, you can probably find a cheap to replace him on the line.

  • D5160 paper jam-remove incorrect papers. now what to do?

    I messed up.

I panicked when the page I just printed has been reduced in the printer. I caught and it went out. Now the red light blinks and there is no troubleshooting information on my CD Manual for it. Can it be fixed? The printer can be reset?

I solved my problem! Incredible. I was persistent in the search for a solution and found this place...

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c00730872

I had to RESET the printer by disconnecting the cable cord (while the printer is on and open the access cover), then disconnect the power cord from the power outlet. (it's perhaps to allow dissipation of the current in the electric transformer?) Wait 15 seconds (at least), and then reconnect the power cord to an outlet and then the power cord to the printer. Let the printer to power on and then close the access cover. All right.

I have now a small note on the printer to DO NOT pull the paper from the printer if it gets 'sucked' in the printer!

I am posting this here just in case someone else made the same mistake that I did.
