Photosmart Pro B9180 'Replace due to defective print head' WARNING

My B9180 gave me the msg "replace the defective print head" after a period of inactivity.  I'm using Snow Leopard on a Mac Pro 10.6.8.  The printer went through several periods of non-use, since I bought it used, but almost nine.  Usually, I experience white lines in my impressions after using the printer, I've always been able to fix by cleaning of the nozzles and/or the print heads, either automatically, or manually.  The last round resulted in the warning "defective printhead" even after repeated manual cleaning.  In fact, the process to put off the printer and back, with and without unplugging it, led to 'replace' warnings for ALL the printheads several times, only 2 print heads a couple of times a moment seems to be giving me just the consistantly 'replace magenta/yellow print head.  The strip of plastic that surrounds the ink nozzles is loose to the point of current on the PH.  My printer is no longer under warranty, but before I spend money on phone support and new print heads, I want to look at other possibilities.  The book says that if the manual cleaning of the printheads does not, HP support should be contacted, suggesting that there could be other possible remedies, before you buy new print heads.   I wouldn't begin to buy new print heads to find that again, they will not work because of some other problem.  I am also concerned by the other warnings of print head, even if they did not intervene now.

Also, opening lid for cleaning of the PH, I noticed a lot of ink accumulate in 4 coarse foam pads, each in its own little tray located inside the printer on the right side.  some of them were overflowing. / I carefully daubbed a part of the ink with q-tips, but I wonder if this condition could be or cause problems.

Ideas?

Finally got tired of waiting on HP.  Expected response Bob during the 'days of Forum' or whatever they called.  My problems with their goods should not have affected them too!

FYI, I ordered a new printhead magenta/yellow, installed and still had "replace print head faulty warning."  Has released the new printhead, cleaned of some sort of clear, gelatinous * beep * of gold contacts with a q - Tip and reinstalled.  Surprisingly, printer started working.  (Took a lot of time to do her routine 'thump, bump & hum'.)  Don't know how long it will last.

My next printer will be a Canon or an Epson!

  • Photosmart pro B9180 firmware update problem

    Hello

I have a problem to update the firmware on my HP photosmart pro B9180.

The firmware on it is very old, 20070426.

    I m running on a Mac, OS X 10.9

When I tried to start updating the firmware with the firmware update it got stuck after pressing 'continue' on the license agreement page. Through various positions, I found that I had to install the version 10.5 of the HP driver software to work around this problem. I ve done this and of course, he started the next step, "detect devices. The result is that he finds no demanding devices updated firmware that I find hard to believe since it s of 2007. The printer is on the network and I can normally access.

I now have it connected via USB to try another approach. The result is that the phase of "sensors" the update of the firmware ends unexpectedly leaving me with the ability to report it to apple or reopen the update of the firmware.

I ve also tried to use HP Device Manager to check the software updates. This property returns "server is not available. "Please try again later".  Tried for the last two days, but the results are the same.

Any help or pointers is appreciated. If need more information please ask

    Hi @Rohdekill

May I ask why you try to get an update of the firmware? I know you said feel you yours is outdated, but I want to say are you a program that allows you to search for an firmware update pushed?

From what I see, there is no updated firmware for this printer. There are updates driver for Mac and the Windows operating system, but no update firmware.

If you have a problem, I'd be happy to help you.

  • Impression of the long panoramas with Photosmart Pro B9180

Is anyway to get a Photosmart Pro B9180 to print panoramas long photo (up to 42 ")? I've read elsewhere that this is possible, but the maximum I was able to print is 13 "x 19".

I use the printer with an iMac 27 ", OS Lion and PS Elements 10. I tried to use the tray with paper which was 36 "long. PES 10 allows me to set the desired print size, but it seems to never work when I send the file to the printer. It gives a message that the paper is too short, and then abandoned.

    Hello

The limits of dimensions mentioned above are the maximum sizes supported by the mechanism of printing equipment and have actually no much to do with the software...

A larger size is rejected by the censors of the printer... You will not be able to get around him with a software solution

  • Photosmart Pro B9180... Pulling hair out after Win 7 64 of the Vista 64 update!

Since the upgrade to Vista 64 for Win 7 Ultimate 64 I was able to print in any way useful to my HP Photosmart Pro B9180 via a USB connection or a network of residential group.

Now, after vainly trawling online and for a solution to my problem for several weeks now, I fear that the £600.00 so-called 'linchpin' my fledgling photographic printing company I've conquered, is in fact a total and absolute "lemon", this much praised (at least I thought that this was the case, having found very little negative comments!) professional photo printer must be honest , "is not fit for purpose". At least when we're trying to operate in an environment of Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit, that is.

Unless, of course, anyone here can help me.

After download, install as administrator, do Photo - not if - smart printer by default, uninstalling, cleaning of the drivers and reinstall the Windows 7 driver package: PS_BSIZE_CDA_B9100_Net_Full_Win_WW_130_140.exe several times, Windows still reports that while the printer was installed, it was necessary to troubleshooting. But when I try to the sentence, it is unable to identify what the problem is, before simply dead shooting me and then... Well... Groundhog Day, this is what comes to my mind.

If I try to add B9180 in devices and printers I get this error message: "Windows can't open add printer." Access is denied. "I tried a new install via a network of residential group, but Windows has reported that it did not have the rights to add the printer to the network!

As it is, I can't print from any photo editing software, I use mainly Photoshop for JPEG-types and Phase One of the Camera RAW data or Microsoft Office or Open Office document. They all report that no printer is installed on the system when it is clearly. Oddly, it will print if I right click a thumbnail, but it's of little use to me really, as if we were working "blind".

I tried every step possible troubleshooting available via the support site of the product here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=uk&lang=en&softwareitem=mp-74847-1&os=406...

In vain I tried some novel I've done for myself and also didn't find any help on Microsoft or in Win 7 user forums. I have an out with HP support ticket, but I'm not holding my breath!

By the way I can print using the HP Photosmart Essentials program that installs with the driver package, but the software is simply too simplistic for my purposes.

The situation sucks big time in my opinion and I'm pretty much at the end of my home, with no ideas on how to get to where I want to be on the left.

Of course, any help is welcome.

I'm curious, if you can add any printer?

Try disabling the Windows user account control.

  • Printing with an empty cartridge because of the defective print head

I had a problem with my printer saying that my yellow cartridge is very low, even if I just install it. I spoke with HP yesterday and they told me it was probably a defective print head, and they would have me shipping another. They assured me that even if it showed that my yellow ink was low, it was not really. In the meantime, I'm trying to print something this morning, and I get a message that the cartridge is empty and I have to cancel printing.

Is it possible that I can get the printer to operate even with him saying that yellow is empty (even if it isn't)?

Please read this post then provide some details.  What printer model? What operating system?

  • Photosmart Pro B9180: Exhausted ink with new cartridge message

I had 2 showing depleted, inks Light Cyan and Magenta, so I replaced them both.  After a bit of memorization and re - insert, I managed finally to get the LC to be accepted, but kept showing Magenta empty ink Replace cartridge. Finally I managed to get the printer to accept the cartridge by removing the yellow and magenta and the closing door ink cartridge so this printer it has advised both cartridges where either missing or damaged. I then re inserted the Magenta cartridge and closed the door and waited for the error message about the yellow show and then re-inserted cartridge yellow. The printer then went to the ready state. Hurrah! After a print test sheet and a couple of head cleans and then some photos on plain paper I tried to print on photo paper. At half way through printing the machine stopped and threw the message for the Magenta cartridge is exhausted. I cheated once again the printer twice to remove the yellow and magenta cartridge and put back as before. It has managed to get at the end of printing, which indicated that the heads remain a pure which I proceeded to do. Unfortunately the printer cannot again print throwing up the message that the Magenta cartridge was exhausted and needed replacement.

After doing a lot of research online, it seems it is a common problem, but what I failed to find are solutions even on the HP forum.

Is this a problem with the cartridge having questionable chips? Is this a problem with the printer, chiefs or general design?

I really need an answer that will prevent me from buying inks Dungeon I am wasting money. I have tried all resets as described in other posts here. Unfortunately once the exhausted ink message nothing different pose can be done as the printer all crashes.

Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

    Hello Jabzi,

an update on printer problems. Following your last message, that the printer has again stopped work while I followed your advice and tell me the magenta was exhausted that I knew, that it could not be. In any case, I decided that the cartridge must be defective, so I ordered a new one. The next day, waiting to get to the printer, I let on, ran his daily routine of maintenance and the problem corrected itself, is great. I ran a few prints which still showed heavy bands/bad colors, so I ran routines cleaning and alignment that has made the problem worse. What I noticed, is that the banding seemed to be linked to black ink and there are large gaps in the text. I changed the black photo that has been reading about 25% full I had read a similar post where someone had problems with a low black cartridge. I also pulled the print heads and thouroghly them cleaned manually. The two black print heads showed signs of ink muddy accumulate but color heads everything looked very clean. After cleaning and reinserting the heads the printer ran his routine alingment and produces best alignment prints that I had. I then printed the test page, was also excellent showing no missing text and three print heads that fell in fair condition were now show as good. Since then I've produced great prints.

That I summise from all this is that the problems seem to have stems printheads being blocked preventing ink flow and giving messages erroneous re cartridges is exhausted. Everything that was probably due to the printer being unused and left off for an extended period. Once the heads had been cleaned and enough ink has flowed to purge the ink heads has been lying in it for a period the printer was able to function properly.  At least I now have a spare cartridge magenta on-site as well as a printer to work.

I hope it's useful to anyone having similar problems.

    Thanks for your help

    Concerning

    Alan

  • Defective print heads reported

    Hello

My Officejet 8000 A809 has print runs streaky - the black cartridge seems to be the problem.

I ran the print head cleaning utility and it showed the black print printhead correctly but when I tried to print a document it printer reported that cyan/magenta printhead were defective and had to be replaced. I had a paper jam while the unit was running - if this means something :-)

These print heads are genuine HP and less than two weeks old. However I have heard and replaced two of them (with genuine HP products), but the printer continues to report that the print heads are defective.

What is the problem here? Any ideas?

    TIA... Brett

    Forget it, silly me!

I was confused with the cartridges printheads.

    Sorry :-)

    Hello there @qtoigoo ,

I understand that you are facing a problem with your Officejet 8500 continuously clean the print heads. Normally, this occurs if the print heads are going downhill. My best advice to you would be to try clean the contacts on the print heads manually and reset of the printer. Who can help.

  • Impossible to print on Mac 10.6 Snow Leopard - Photosmart Pro B9180

Hello.  I installed 10.6 and I can't print. When installed it detected that I had drivers for the B9180 there and has given a message to tell new pilots would be installed compatible with 10.6. This is the error message when I try to print:

"You must install the software to use this printer. To install the software, choose software update in the Apple Menu. If the software for your printer is not available in software update, contact the manufacturer of your printer. »

So I uninstalled the old drivers for 10.5 because it said the were not compatible with 10.6 on the link below and I thought that was causing the problem.

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c01855252

Still have the same error message.  Then I uninstalled all the HP drivers and ran the update from the Apple software.  I need HP drivers and install them, it detected. But it still does not work.

Anyone got any ideas?  I'm going round in circles on the HP website and Google trying to figure out if 10.6 has built in drivers for the B9180.  Any suggestions gratefully appreciated.

Thanks for replying so fast. Very much appreciated. I downloaded these drivers from Apple Support , but they did not work.

I had already seen the HP link

However, read the HP link made me think about something else.  It tells you the impression Q should be already there but if not it tells you how to add the printer.  My printer was already there after the installation of 10.6 and that's how I tried to print (using the old feel Q) so I decided to remove the printer and then add it to the.

It worked!  So I can now print 10.6. Hooray! I tried only a basic page, nothing complicated and it came out OK.  I'll test with some of my work, and I hope it will be OK.  (There is another post here who complains of a dominant in the green color prints - hope that I do not understand this).

Thank you once more you answer - although I had seen the link forward - looking again made me try something else and it worked - in any case, the problem is solved thanks to your comments!
