Pixel dead Satellite L500-017 - HDD is moved to another laptop?

I recently got a laptop Toshiba Satellite L500-017 (recently as in, like, 4 days ago) and the bloody screen ALREADY has a dead pixel.

I intend to trade him because he is still under warranty, but my question is this; they will replace the whole laptop, or they will be able to move the hard disk to another computer?
Considering that I've already implemented so (80 GB of programs and music) on my laptop and the amount of time that I got it before he messed up, I think that it's just that they actually past it to spare me the time.

I mean, Holy crap I have yet a week and the screen has a dead pixel! What kind of manufacturing is it?
I would not normally receive so angry, but in such a short period of time, it's already messed up, and that is it pissing me just off the coast. I know that it is a single pixel, but I don't know if it'll be only a pixel, considering how long it took to arrive.

So my question is this;
because it is still under warranty, is it possible they can move just the hard drive on one with an another L500-017?

Hi mate

I'm not sure if the ASP would replace the screen if only a dead pixel is visible.
I found this Toshiba FAQ on dead pixels:

+ Information about the technology and pixel for LCD screens display fault tolerance +.
http://APS2.toshiba-tro.de/KB0/TSB9502LZ0000R01.htm

I think that you should simply visit your dealer where you bought this laptop and laptop should ask for replacement.
Usually the dealer should replace the entire notebook
But you must back up your data to another HARD drive because I doubt that they empty the HARD drive on another unit.

See you soon

I recently bought the Satellite L500-017 who has the dual-core processor Intel Pentium T4200 2.0GHz and came preloaded with Vista Home Premium.

Being a buff and new XP on Vista, I wonder why my dual-core CPU is erratically? Nifty box it jump around, watch same redlining of use of 90%, which seems strange for a dual-core. The AMD X 2 3200 + on my PC never jump that much.

Any ideas? Is considering wiping in all cases for Windows 7 x 64 or go back to XP x 64 anyway, I wonder if I'll have the same questions in one of these versions.

    Thank you!

    Hello!

I put also t know why this happens, but I guess that the reason is not the CPU, it s software. Maybe you run a large number of background processes or have installed a large number of software applications.

First of all, I would recommend deletion Toshiba TEMRPO because I founded this:

In addition, it would be interesting to know what software AntiVirus or InternetSecurity you use.

  • Satellite L500-1XC HDD Recovery help

Hi I have a Satellite L500-1XC of second hand, the former owner has installed Ubuntu (which I can't access because of password) as well as windows 7 and I try restore laptop to factory settings, but I just don't know how.

I tried to turn it off and holding, then 0 and pressing the Start button. On the bottom of the home screen says HDD Recovery at the bottom left of the screen, but after that, he just the part of the selection for me to choose Ubuntu or Windows 7 and then just charge the laptop as usual.

I tried to get the Recovery Media Creator, but I'm not. It seems that a lot of original Toshiba Utilities and supports have been removed.

If anyone can help me fix this laptop, I'd be so grateful that I can not really afford to buy a Toshiba Recovery disk.

    Thank you

    > I'm trying to restore the laptop to factory settings, but I just don't know how
I put t I think that HARD drive recovery would work because Linux has been installed on the HARD drive and I think that the partition table has been changed.
This might be the reason why the HDD recovery isn't working.

You can always see this Toshiba document that describes the whole HARD drive recovery procedure:
    http://APS2.toshiba-tro.de/KB0/HTD1303440001R01.htm

So now, drive HARD recovery does not work in this case, you can only use the installation disc.
You can try to install Windows 7 using the Microsoft disk (Toshiba drivers are downloadable) or you order the disc of Arvato:

  • Satellite L500-1DT: HDD Recovery of Win 7 is stuck in an endless loop

It's a so detailed bug report please bear with me.
If you can help, or can confirm that you have had the same thing happen to you, I will be grateful.

I've owned several Toshiba laptops before and I've even worked for Toshiba so worry, I like the machine. But I have a problem with his recovery software. I just bought a laptop Satellite L500-1DT with Windows 7 64 bit, on behalf of a non-techie who lives elsewhere. Since I know from experience that I have to sometimes panic calls from field in the sense of "it became too slow", "How do I get rid of the accumulated junk", "maybe he had a virus" and so on, the first thing I checked was ASR, which is how to bring the HD to "like new" condition.

So I started out in the machine, replied to the questions until I got in the appropriate operating system, then led the program "make a recovery DVD. Double layer DVD checked ok. With the freshly made DVDs, I swapped the HD for a spare part, I had (much less: only 40 GB instead of 320) and started the rescue DVD hoping it would fix my own system to the blank disc.

He did repartition the drive according to its schema, with more or less half the space for Windows and the other half for the data, including the recovery files. He did install the system in the Windows partition. It was then restarted in Windows 7 installed in order to complete the installation. There, the trouble began: an endless loop of reboots for hours until what I stopped it.

    Loop:
    * reset
    * black screen with bright logo 4 color windows «windows startup»
    * black screen with slight blade and "Setup prepares your computer for first use.
    * blue white screen "Welcome" with "please wait" and the crossbar with green blob, saying "the installation may take several minutes. Please do not interrupt or shut down the computer! »
    * blue screen saying it stops

    Repeat the above forever.

I saw him restart way more than 10 times over several hours. And whenever he's faking, that this is the first time she did it. Of course, this is not normal!

I tried to stop with ctrl-alt-del and the Task Manager, but the white screen would go even the Task Manager, making it difficult to kill any process or even inspect what they were on top. I stopped it by holding down the power button until it shuts. Then when it restarts it said that if I wanted safe mode. I tried. He went into the routine above and at one point he says that he could not proceed with the installation, if it was in safe mode. So he restarted in normal mode and then...! It is finally out of the endless loop!

Then he asked me all the usual language, record etc., questions as he did the first time I had turned on him. This seemed good. Finally, I walked into a newly installed operating system and everything seemed fine, except that I found out later that some programs that were there before were not installed.
With bravery bordering stupidity (*) I even Redid the procedure hard disk provided instead of my rescue: first I have nuked the windows partition, then I save the HD (with F8), not with the DVD that I had done. Result: similar rigmarole, with endless reboot.

After that I stopped it, it kind-of-worked, as above, but now some programs were lacking, such as the Toshiba DVD drive.

(*) motivated by: better try now with the computer here and all my tools and other computers ready at hand, that when the computer died at home of its owner, and that's the only thing left to try with me at the other end of a line call. Been there before.

Now, that specific (DVD player), that I could download it from the support page and it installed fine. But what else might be missing or not working not that I have not noticed? The restore process is clearly not working as it should.

I'm the first or only to whom it happens? I'm doing something wrong? Is there anything else I should try?

I need to make sure that the restore procedure works perfectly while I still have the computer in my hands. If not, there is no chance that I'll be able to do a remote reinstall for my non-techie, once I asks me to clean the laptop by phone a few months from now.

    Thanks in advance

[Update: just looking for the right place where I could post what I found that other people report the same problem.] This is definitely a bug in the software distributed for W7 - 64 overlay, not a problem isolated to my machine. See for example
http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=49421&TSTART=0 where the user kwarc described the same symptoms with a Satellite L505.

    Hello

First of all, I must say that I could recover my trouble free unit.
The installation of Win 7 went well and everything has been installed correctly.

    Back to you:
To me it looks like something wrong with installation maybe some HARD drive partitions were confues perhaps, HARD drive should again formatted, and then run the recovery procedure.
    You should test

    Regarding the DVD player:
As much as I know there is no DVD player for Win 7 64 bit. There are only available for Win 64 bit updated. If you need to install the DVD player for Win 7 32 bit version and then update using the patch released for Win7 64 bit.

  • Satellite L500-1DT - HDD the smart predict service failures

    Hello

I have a Satellite L500-1DT and the last days he started to say "your HARD drive has the smart predict function failures"-is that what I did for her or is it a problem to manufacturers? I only got two months.

Anyone know if I can fix it myself?
I have just in Spain and I'm here for the next two months.

    I'm useless with technology...

    Any help would be good.

    Thank you!!

    Kate

Please don't fix anything alone. New notebook has warranty valid so if something goes wrong the affected parts must be replaced and warranty will cover all costs.

Visit THIS page and read what means SMART.
In other words, your HARD disk goes wrong so please back up all your important data and contact the nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help.

I don't know where you live in Spain, but to find the nearest Toshiba authorized maintainer visit the Toshiba support page under
http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com > support & downloads > find an ASP contact them as soon as possible.

    So, back to your problem.

  • Satellite L500 - light of Wi - Fi with another Combo PCIe Mini card

    Dear Toshiba

I have 2 of L500-1UG notebook, with the mini PCIe RTL8187B card. (one 32-bit and 64-bit Win7 Home Premium)

This card has no BT and is only 54Mbps and because the laptop is out of warranty, I bought RALink Tech 2 - card Combo RA3090BC4.

Only open a notebook up to now, but I've tried the two RA3090BC4 in it.

When I turn on with the Realtek card, orange wifi light long transfer Windows 7 starts

When I turn on with the Ralink card, the orange wifi lights at all.

Win7 32-bit Home Premium (downgraded for reasons of test development software) detects and installs the drivers successfully. I installed the driver for Ralinktech.

Bluetooth installs fine and I transferred a 12 MB file, a mobile phone successfully.

I swapped the son of black and white antenna (it is marked 1 and 2, not the hand and to the).

    What else can I check?

    Is there a compatibility issue?

    > Is there a compatibility issue?
Probably yes. I guess you know that laptops have limited opportunities to upgrade and these upgrades are not supported at all. In the case that you are not happy with built in the solution of the WLAN card is the use of external devices such as USB WLAN cards.

All pre-installed software are also designed to work with original equipment components. It is not easy to help in this case.
I m also wondering how you can just buy a WLAN card and Exchange. I mean before doing this, it is important to check if these updates is possible or not.

Let's see if someone else has a good suggestion that you can do to make it work.

  • Temperature of the CPU in Toshiba Satellite l500-1ef

    Hello!

I bought Toshiba Satellite l500-1ef November and up to now laptop worked brilliant. Three-four weeks, touchpad and little space to the left of the touchpad began to be hot. I checked the temperature of the CPU in Toshiba PC Health Monitor (v 1.4.1.64), and it was about 30%, with 40% of the cooler. The temperature is increased over time and now, after four weeks, the touchpad is warmer, and is approximately 45-50% od CPU temperature, with 50 to 60% the use of the cooler.

I am using laptop for Internet only, work in MS Word and listen the music, sometimes I play Warcraft III on it, I have Windows 7.

Should I go with PC support, or it is normal in my model?

    Best regards

    Hi mate

It s nothing unusual that the touchpad would be hot from the CPU and cooling modules are placed near the touchpad.
So in my opinion, you shouldn't be worried about it.

Laptop s temperature can increase after a certain time of use
In this case due to the dust inside the cooling fans
If you wish, you can try to remove the dust using a jet of compressed air
I do from time to time and this helps to keep the temperature at the lower level

  • SWOP HDD Satellite A300 satellite L500

    Hello!!

I had a toshiba satellite a300, who unfortunately died... I want to take the hard drive to a put on toshiba satellite l500 computer laptop my cousin...
Siply I put it to l500 but it stacks to a point which shows over and over again something on test media and more...

    What I'm supposed to do?
Te strange (for me that I'm not very computer man) is that the BIOS setting shows the model of the hard drive...
I mean the l500 recognizes the drive... Please help me...

    Thanks in advance...

    Hello

Satellite A300 supports the same HDD as a Satellite L500. Both use the SATA HDD so the inserted HARD disk should work.
Its good, that the HARD drive is visible in the BIOS. This means that the HARD drive is recognized and in good condition.

I m wondering what you did after the disk HARD was inserted.
Have you tried to install the system using the Toshiba Recovery disk or another drive?
Have you tried to format the HARD drive first?

Tries to start form the system disk and format the HARD drive first.
Then follow with the installation of the system

  • Pixel dead on Satellite P100-347

    Dear all,

We just bought this great P100-347, and we know that it is one of the most powerful machines on the market. But there is a very annoying defect that we feel that this is something that everyone should be made aware.

After comparing the different brands of computer on the internet and in several computer stores, we have decided to go for another PC Toshiba laptop. The House and what came as a surprise was when we started for the first time, that we noticed a "glimmer of hope green/white" on the screen. Yes, consistent dead/no pixels. The brilliant green point just seems very annoying and spoils everything.

Immediately, we called Toshiba global customer. We were informed but expecting a call in 3 days. When we asked if we were to take back to the retailer in hopes of an Exchange or expect from Toshiba for the reminder. After searching the Internet for problems of dead pixels, we found that many people on this website have the dead pixel problem.

We like Toshiba and continues to buy the Toshiba brand, we hope to get this fault recognised by society. We would be grateful if a repair or replacement service may be provided.

Our view is that, turn on the computer right there in the shop after completing the purchase, in this way, if there is no default, it makes the resolution easier and faster for all parties involved and then you can just take home your perfect and beloved machine without a worry in the world.

Fingers crossed for our new Toshiba fixed/replaced.

    Hello

    I understand you very well.
During my investigation in this forum, I found some comments and advice on issues of pixel dead on laptop screens.
Usually it is not big thing to do because there is a kind of tolerance of dead pixels.

    http://support.toshiba-tro.de/KB0/TSB5400ZD0002R01.htm

Only if the number of dead pixel is larger, then the number described in the document above the ASP will replace the screen.
The best advice is to go back to the dealer and replace the notebook.

I think you should also check this document on dead pixels

  • Satellite L500-20 X - no recovery disk

    Hi all

Since yesterday my Satellite L500-20 x have only called Bluescreens 'Driver not less than or equal'--> Restart! It starts with win7 until the opening of the session, after that reboot every time. I try a lot of things to fix:
    Systemrepair (3Times) and no change
Recovery of SystemRecovery (per disk HARD no CD) work but always bluescreens and no change to solve the problem.
Memory check (from Win7) checked 3 times 100% ok.
Toshiba HDD Recovery (I try several times but it turned off each time by bluescreen process... so I can't do that - unpossible complete recovery!)

This is the first laptop I have buyed all and I've never heard of a recovery disk - so I don't create one! Now, I can't get in win7 - so I can't create it now. Anyone have any ideas? I want new windows to install... but I do not have the same Win Disk. Win = Win7 64 bit laptop all I have is WIn7 32 Bit for my HomePC.

    I need help!

    Salvation of the beam,

If you don t have a Toshiba Recovery disk, you can order one at Toshiba directly:
    https://backupmedia.Toshiba.EU/landing.aspx

It's worth a try if HDD recovery option doesn't work properly.

If you order such a disc and install the original on the HARD drive settings will be restored. A clean install factory with all the drivers and tools (on the settings in the box) will be restored, and if that doesn t work, this seems to be a hardware malfunction
