  Some time previously, on print quality default settngs, black would be weak or incomplete on the last lines of a page. If there are more pages, each would start fine but have poor quality down. I changed the setting from standard to high quality and the problem seemed fixed. These days the poor quality near bottom of page returned. Now the black print at all, even after a new cartridge and the head cleaning. Colors print OK. I need to replace the print head?

  In fact, remove the ink tanks & placing the printhead in a flat shallow of Windex for 2-3 hours has helped produce a nozzle test print which was sharp as a cleat, black included.

  When you installed the printer cartridge, did you remove the protective sticker on the cartridge? Sometimes people forget to remove this and install the cartridge.

  It looks like a case of rejection of the cartridge. You can have a bad ink cartridge, or something more serious. If you have tried all the steps in the document below, then you should try to do a hard reset. If this does not work, the cartridge may be bad and need replaced. Sometimes you get a bad right cartridge against the package. If after changing the cartridge again and again all the troubleshooting steps did not receive the printer print, then you may need to replace the printer.

  To do a hard reset:
  1. make sure that the printer is turned on.
  2. pull on the power cord from the printer.
  3. pull out the power cord from the wall.
  4. wait for 30 seconds.
  5. plug in the printer and turn it on.

  C6280 has the printhead and ink cartridges that are separated. This resembles the printhead may be bad clogged or has failed.

  I would say try "clean printhead" a few times more, if still no black not printed, the print head may have reached its endoflife.

  Of course, I can't speak for cdurso, but for my part, HP refused to help me with the reset of the region. Some representatives of the foreign customer support told me simply repeatedly that my printer was obsolete, and that I had to buy a new one. However, I found a solution very simple to my problem. I simply pulled the chip on the ink cartridge in the region that the printer has been set to, and I stuck on my new cartridge. I think that this would negate my ink level readings, but it allows me to use the printer, which now works perfectly. I just have to ignore the "expired cartridge" message I get every time I need to activate or reset it.

  Reset the printer.  Turn the power off and then hold the # and 6 keys during and shortly after turning it on.

  Browse the internet: it seems that this problem occurs with the most HP printers.

  See for example: some forum someone temporarily solves the problem by performing cleaning operations for (more than) 7 times, which cost five new cartridges to replace, and after a month or if the problem recurs.

  I wouldn't do this because I don't want to empty an another XL cartridge and then discover the problem recurs.

  The printer (bought in April 2010) is connected through the USB port on a Mac Pro 8Core with OS - X 10.6 (I always use only paper HP and HP original cartridges)

  This "Absolutely" worked for my c309! He started printing gray yesterday, then I finally got the blank pages. My first thought was that HP has screwed me again! lol but I tried the post above... I have unplugged the printer for more than 25 seconds, held down the 3 and # buttons simultaneously for another 25 dry more plugged in printer and now the buttons down then made for another 25 sec.  Had to reset the lang. and the country, but after a few minutes he printed a perfect test page and I was able to print all my docs now!  It was a solution easy vs on the removal of the water and heads/cartridge, etc.  I would try this first and if it doesn't work, then you can try other patches.   He has not worked for me.

  I had already ordered a new Printhead and installed yesterday.  But it didn't work after aligning the print head process either.

  I have tried resetting by unplugging the printer and hold the # and 3 buttons on the keyboard.  He rolled and then he started printing in black ink.  Yay!

  I don't know if the old print head would have worked if I had tried the # and 3 button Reset the process, but I'll keep the old one just in case where (after I wash again).

  Just happy to have a machine working again.  Testing time to go buy more ink after you run most of the color cartridges down with reset and alignment.

I did the thing to chat online with technical support and that's what I got: on the front screen of the printer, press the arrow to the right, and you should see an icon "Setup." Press on that. Then press tools, then scroll down to "Clean print head." Press the key. When it's done it spits out a test page and voila! It now prints. I hope that this works for some of you all!
