Player Windows media... no decoder.
When I try to play a DVD, I get a message... "Windows media player cannot play the dvd because a compatible decoder is not installed on your computer"... Help please. I have Windows xp Home SP3
You need to install a dvd decoder. This would be included in the dvd playing software such as powerdvd, windvd etc. If you can find an original disc you will be ok, otherwise you will need to buy it again. You can find a free dvd decoder by searching on the web, but be very careful, because the codec is registered if 99.9% of the time, you will have to pay for it.

How to install Windows Media Center &; decoder: Please help!
I have a HP desktop computer. There not yet 2 years old, I have Windows Media Center (WMC) and I could watch TV very good about it until I'm the cable box. I simply plugged the cable into the Tower, no problem. Now that I have the decoder, I'm confused as to what's missing to make it work! It is said that the IR hardware & IR control cables are missing. What does that mean? Also, how far I will use? Do I have to use a universal? Oh, and it shows the channels that are supposed to be here (for example: it comes through that channel 53 is supposed to be MTV, but there is no video or sound).
Thank you!!!
-Lisa
Set your tuner, PC TV channel 3 or 4 according to the cable box output channel. The decoder is initially connect to the wall and the video output is connected to the PC. Use the remote control for the set-top box to change channels. If the PC is to drive the sound then you will also need to connect audio cables (red and white) from the cable box to the audio inputs of the TV tuner card.

None of my video clips to ring when shown on windows media player 11. speakers work for all applications. How can I turn on the sound. It is not on mute and as strong it goes upward.
System probably lack you one or more audio codecs. Codec is short of compression and decompression of that particular video file and the correct audio part may be not available.
I recommend one of the K-Lite codec packages available here to download and install. The regular package should be enough, but you can opt for the full package.
Once you have downloaded the package on your computer, you can right-click on the installation. EXE and run as administrator to avoid any problems with the installation.

If I remove windows media player windows Media Center always works
I never use windows media player but I use XP Media Center Edition 2005 to record TV programs, I have watch on a different media player.
Can I remove Media PLayer without harming the Media Center?
Thank you very much James
You can't really uninstall Media Player from all current versions of Windows, it is a central element. It is best to not not muck on that. Also notes that some readers of third part depend on Media Player components working properly, ask only trouble if you muck on this.

the Player Windows media, rip a CD takes forever
When I copy a CD it takes forever. This has changed recently because it was fast. It takes between 15 and 20 minutes to rip a standard CD. It is used to do this in 2 or 3 minutes. I tried to uninstall and reinstall the latest version, but it did not help. I am ripping to MP3 format 128. I ran CCleaner and Avast. Any suggestions?
Hi razorray1,
- Did you the latest changes on the computer?
- Do you have any third-party DVD burning software installed on the computer?
- What version of Windows media player installed on the computer?
Method 1
It is possible that some third-party programs installed on the computer is causing the problem.
I suggest that you put the computer in a clean boot state and check if it helps.
To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows XP by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.
See the link below to learn more about how to clean boot.

Reset the computer to start as usual
When you are finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:
(a) click Start, type msconfig in the search box and press ENTER.
(b) If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password or click on continue.
(c) under the general tab, click the Normal startup option, and then click OK.
(d) when you are prompted to restart the computer, click on restart.
Method 2
If the previous step fails, consult you are facing similar problem ripping CDs any other size of file and check if that helps.
Also uninstall any of third-party DVD burning software installed on the computer and check if it helps.

Hello
I can't share my media using WMP 11. When I try to do, opens a window of options asking how I want to share media files (with xbox, other users, etc.), and I select the options and click OK. Then, when I return in the sharing of multimedia files to see if the media are indeed shared, a window opens informing me "Media sharing has been disabled because a required Windows setting or component has been changed. For any additional help, click Help on the Web. When I click Web help, the error code above, with a few troubshooting not. You must ensure that Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service is turned on. However, when I get to the list of Services, WMP Network Sharing is not. It is also a step to confirm the ownership of a registry subkey. When I try to access the subkey HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Preferences\HME\ [security ID], however, there is no security ID subkey. Instead of that, by virtue of the MCH, there is a list of "default (name), REG_SZ (type) and not the value (data)".Suggestions about how to fix this would be greatly appreciated. Would it be useful to simply uninstall WMP and start over? If so, how to do that? I saw an obvious way to do it.
Thanks a lot for your suggestions.
