Please choose which operating system to start: (timer on)

When I start it, I get a black screen with white text, asking me to choose a system to start - and a countdown timer.

I have two identical choices (identical wording - Microsoft Windows XP... for this purpose). By selecting the first load my Windows XP. The second seems to load an earlier version and invite you to select Admin or (other) user. Selection of a user for the second version is not let me go. There is no program or OS this backup. I want to know is, how can all I eliminate the second choice. It causes no problems, I just want it tidy.

I added this to the previous answer;

If you're on sp3 follow these steps:

1. go to start, my computer, local disk, right-click on the boot.ini file, click Properties, ensure the read only checkbox is disabled, if necessary press on apply, ok, ok

2. now, double-click it to open the boot.ini file (should open in Notepad)

3. first of all, go to file, select Save, save it somewhere you can find it as your desktop or in your documents,

then revert to the original and edit it by removing the line:

"multi (0) disk (0) rdisk (0) partition (1) \WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional "/ fastdetect / noexecute = OptIn

Save and close.

Open the file and check to see if it says this:

A simple example of type

[boot loader]
timeout = 30
default = multi (0) disk (0) rdisk (0) partition (1) \WINDOWS
[operating systems]
"multi (0) disk (0) rdisk (0) partition (1) \WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional "/ fastdetect

3. If so close and restart, you should have no possibility to choose that starts now.

  • Select the operating system to start

    I just upgraded my Dell Dimension E310 from Windows XP to Windows 7 and there is only one question. Whenever I start my computer just after the Dell Logo I get a screen which requires me to either select the "previous operating system" or "Windows 7" - I select Windows 7 and everything works fine. ".  I deleted the "Old Windows" files to save 29GB of storage space and of thought that would also clear the splash screen, but it's still there.  Is there a way to disable this screen?

    Thank you

    Never mind - found this and it worked

    Do a right click 'My Computer' go to 'Properties', click on the "Advanced" tab click on the 'Settings' button under 'Startup and recovery' section choose the choice of OS you want TO boot into virtue uncheck the "default operating system" section 'System startup' box "Time to display list of operating systems" click on 'Ok' your done! , next time you reboot the system, it won't give you the boring OS choice menu! IF you chose the wrong pair, don't panic, you can simply press F8 in the boot process and there is an option to select the choice of os.

    Hi DreamMeng,

    You can try to use third party software to back up data and check.

    You can use your favorite search engine to navigate on the third-party data backup software and that the software allows to save data.

    Note: The use of third-party software, including hardware drivers can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the use of third-party software can be solved. Software using third party is at your own risk.

    You can also make contact with the Local Techshop for assistance to the protection of the data.

  • T of what guest operating systems will start the VMware Support for EFI?

    Is there a list of support guest OS for the EFI firmware?  Mianly supported by VMware - do not try, fail, call support technique etc etc.   My experiences on the TP forums, I guess that there is not.  Some OS (such as Windows Server) come with a screen to choose BIOS/EFI firmware.  If not, you need to go to setting > Hard Drive OPtions-> advanced _ > boot using EFI.  In particular there at - it versions of Linux that you give you option of BIOS/EFI firmware before the confutation of VM is complete, so the hard drive then be custom.

    We will officially support the EFI firmware for any guest operating system to which all the following conditions are met:

    • We list this guest operating system, supported in the VMware Compatibility Guide for operating systems and your virtualization product.
    • The guest operating system supports EFI in the operating system installation media.
    • Support the guest OS EFI has no catastrophic flaws (for example Fedora 12 x 64, FreeBSD 11, Centos 6.0 through all the 6.2 have catastrophic flaws).

    New computer virtual assistant of 11 workstation has only the option of EFI firmware for Windows clients.  Special mention, do not yet support us Easy Install for non EFI customers in 11 workstations.  For all other customer support EFI OSes, you can do a manual installation after choosing the EFI firmware in the virtual machine settings > Options > Advanced > Boot with EFI instead of the BIOS.

    I don't understand your concern about the personalization of the hard drive... Could you elaborate?

    See you soon,.

  • Guest operating system and NTP time synchronization

    Previously he had problems with operating systems using VMware tools to synchronize the time with the ESXi hypervisor. These problems are solved in 5.5 ESXi?  Is the current best practice to use an external NTP server or it's OK now to the OS to sync with invited ESXi?

    Thank you!

    I'm not aware of technical problems. If the host is synchronized correctly, you shouldn't have any problems with the client VMware Tools time synchronization. That you should keep in mind is that a guest must only synchronizes time with a single source. In an announcement which is usually a domain controller. Also mak sure you synchronize the ESXi host time from a virtual machine running on the host.

  • BlackBerry Smartphones please explain the operating system on Cbeyond

    I have seen posted on another site that... "Just found an official os 4.7.1.65 for CBEYOND Tour". I am not new to BB, but, I understand that an OS is only official release by RIM and or your carrier. So I went to the Verizon site and hooked up to the DM and neither shows an OS update after the release of 11-19. For me, this means that everything that this so-called new OS's, it is not official. So I posted asking for clarification on this other site and basically flamed and in other words, has said that I was a * beep *.

    Would someone care to explain that to me? In addition, part of the answer that I received from the OP was "all operating systems are the official versions of the RIM whether or not a particular carrier decides to distribute to its customers." But if, as he says, was official, why would we fled said that (at least my carrier) will void the warranty if I load on my phone before they officially released it?

    Hello!

    Well, how you were treated on Cbeyond is not something that we can really attack us... but we can talk about the rest.

    RIM releases indeed of many operating systems for carriers, some better than others. But, is the carriers that are in control to declare a statement like 'agent'... because they must provide support, it's for them to decide what they will adopt and therefore support. Each carrier controls and their versions supported for their customers. Therefore, you will find that different carriers are on the "latest" versions even for the same exact model BB.

    Several times, a version that has been published by RIM sneaks in front of carriers... What are the leaks. They are intentional? Who knows... but we know that they are there and many decide to use them. Often, this has another advantage to provide very valuable feedback concerning a particular output level.

    As for the cancellation guarantee - it is a common myth. With the help of a leaked version do not void your warranty - however, your operator may decide to not provide that pick you up until you go to their supported version. They are in their right to argue about that. The best practice is to never reveal to your carrier that you have used a version of the device not picked up OS... and, when return you to their supported version, if the behavior you're looking for support still exists, then you will be completely in your contractual rights to get this support.

    I hope that helps clear some of them for you!

    See you soon!
