Pop box on computer asking me to activate windows.

I have a box come up on my computer asks me to activate windows, I have a copy saved Windows xp already and have done so for 3 years. This is the first time he came, what is a virus or a pirate? It seems that it is from Microsoft but told me to ignore it, it says I have 3 days to activate it.  It is said to reduce software piracy to activate windows now.

Try to activate again. If the online activation does not work, try the phone activation. If your computer has a sticker of COA above with your key, you can change the Windows key to him.

I really don't want to have to rebuy Windows...

Unfortunately, this is probably what you're going to do, buy another copy of Windows (or another computer).  When Windows comes pre-installed on a computer, the Windows installation is allowed on this computer and cannot be moved to another.  In order to have a component to show up and say: "it is the computer that I came!", this component is the motherboard.  Now that yours has been replaced, the Windows license that came with the old motherboard is zero and cannot be used any longer.

I am running xp pro so why they ask me to activate Windows 7?

XP has been activated years ago? now, they say both need equipment to enable the garbage.

There is nothing wrong with your report that I can see - so you should not receive not authentic or notice of activation.

The notification came at one time and then disappear later?

If Yes, then it is probably due to a "race condition", where two programs or more are fighting for the possession of a file--in this case, it prevents the system WGA, checking the status of the operating system, resulting in the notification. A plus later re - test then clears the air.

The addition of SH Devolo may have been the straw that broke the back - is the amount of RAM on the system? XP SP2 requires at least 512 MB for a reasonable speed, so if your system has less, I'd say you are trying to upgrade if possible.

I suggest that you run the diagnostic tool Microsoft Genuine Advantage in normal mode and copy and paste the results into a response for further analysis:

Run the tool and when it ends, click the copy button, open a text such as Word or Notepad file and select Edit, paste. You can paste directly into an answer here. Open a response, right click and select Paste.

    The question was:

My old motherboard and CPU have been damaged and have been replaced. I try to use the same license that I used on the old machine, but it is not valid. Is there something I can do or do I have to buy a new license?

    Excerpts of answers:

    J.W. Stuart:
If you have a version of Windows 7 OEM of your off lucky because the OEM key is linked to the PC/Mothboard forst installed it on.

    Andre Da Costa:
OEM licenses are bound to the first computer you install and activate it on

-OEM versions allow all the hardware upgrades except for an upgrade to a different model motherboard

-OEM versions does not move directly from an older Windows operating system

So, Yes, you must purchase a new license, a full version too: http://store.microsoft.com

  • Asking to activate windows

I'm on Windows 8, and whenever I turn on the computer asks me to activate Windows. When I try it tells me that Windows cannot be enabled at this time, please, try again later. I did this for some time now, but nothing helped.

I tried updating to 8.1 but may do so and that's what happens with:

«You're running a business or volume license of Windows 8 and cannot be updated using the Windows store.» Contact your system administrator for mote of information on how to update your PC windows 8.1 "

I bought this computer in 2013 of a chain of stores known and I went there;  I was told that when the message arrives, there should be a phone number to call me to activate, but if no number is launched.

  • I need to (re) activate Windows, I think it's the fault of my USB hub

I have been using a USB hub recently.  I only have a single reliable USB port (outside), so I plug it into that and into a less reliable port for more power.  Sometimes, it works very well.  Sometimes, the computer can not detect it, and sometimes the computer emits a high-pitched buzzing sound when I plug in the power cable from the hub to the second USB port.  Today when I plugged the power cable, the computer off.  Now the computer asks me to activate Windows, despite having used Windows on this computer for years.  I was not able to connect to the internet to activate online, so I tried by phone.  When I presented the telephone installation ID, the machine on the phone said they do not recognize it as a product "valid."

Is it possible I can get Windows working again, by activating or making it so I don't have to turn it on?

Assuming you can get connected, you can try a system restore, possibly from safe mode. Re-post if you need help with that.

You don't have to use the automated phone system, simply hold the line without pressing any button and you will be sent (eventually) to a real person condition you ignore their pleas. Explain your situation and they will probably (though not really) help you get activated.

Please mark it as useful or response, as appropriate.
