Portege 2000 - how to install Windows XP without ODD and FDD?

I have this Toshiba Portege 2000 old OS crashed a few days ago. This laptop is not an optical drive and a floppy drive.

The first thing is mind is to purchase an external optical drive which I did, but it does not seem to boot from it. I have trouble to install Windows XP but nothing helped.
Can you guys please help me?

The last option I have in mind would be to install Windows XP on a network. The portege 2000 is able to boot from PXE, the thing is that I don't know how to do it! Can someone tell me how to boot from PXE?

Thank you very much.

I don't know Mr. but as far as I know if copy you the Windows XP CD to HARD disk and then you start from external floppy drive (it should work) you can start the installation.
Copy the XP CD to your HARD drive with a drive enclosure external DRIVE on another computer, create a boot floppy XP and start from it.
Go to the I386 folder and start the WINNT. EXE

Or you use the CD/DVD drive from another computer with the netbootdisk. I found this with Google:

Hello. I was wondering if anyone knows how to install Windows 7 Pentecost on a CD player.

I have an external HARD drive.
Is - this posibel to make an image on this one to boot from?

Hmm, I think that's not possible.
I know that it was possible to install Win XP without the disc.
You simply copied the folder integer i386 to the HARD disk and executed to the Winnt. EXE

I have no experience with Win 7 but I also didn t find details that something like that would not be possible so I guess that's not possible

    Hi michaelnachname,

Here you can already find a thread on installation of Windows XP Portege 3490CT:

As you can read, you must format the HARD drive and copy the folder the XP disc on HARD drive i386. Then, you can start Setup from the HARD drive without a CD player. :)

    Hello!

For this, you can use the Microsoft installation disc. I put t know what OS you want, but put the disc in the CD drive, boot from it and the installation begins.
After installation, you can begin to install the drivers you can download from the Toshiba site in * Archives *.
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com-online decision-making supported Downloads & => Download drivers

Maybe you can get a recovery disk Toshiba an ASP or eBay. The Toshiba Recovery disk contains factory settings and you need to download and install each driver. It does not take as long as the disc of Microsoft.

    Good bye

  • How to install Windows 7 WITHOUT EFI

First of all, the question full (long) story below.

I wish to get a complete picture of a Windows 7 operating system that I backed up on my other server. But I get the error unable to restore a system image on a computer with a different firmware "Windows. "The System Image has been created by a computer using the BIOS and this computer uses EFI.

The image has certainly taken this machine - the firmware has not changed!

What should I do to restore the image?

    Background story...

I bought a new laptop HP 255, by-installed with Windows 7 without OS install disks (I won't EVER stupid enough to do it again!).

I took a complete picture of the systems, as suggested by while I was well saved.

However, my machine has corrupted its operating systems with a few weeks. Recovery boot CD does not work (wouldn't boot). So in desperation, and because time was short I went out and bought another copy legitimate DVD of Windows 7 with a license key (so now I have 2 copies of legitimate operating system!).

I installed the new copy of Windows 7, but it was terrible, because many pilots had disappeared. Especially the missing drivers were not available on the site of HP support for this machine.

So, I created a new new version of Windows recovery disk and tried to restore using that. New boot disk loads ok, I can find the old image on my network (after loading some network drivers). But I will not install the image - which gives the above error message.

I tried to delete the EFI partition from disk (using GPARTED to reformat this partition). Who killed the Windows 7 on the machine - but always gives the same error message when I try to recreate the image on the machine.

I tried to go into the BIOS settings... HP 255 has a "legacy Mode" - which I activated, but it makes no difference at all!

I think the kind of solutions, I'm looking for might be:

    1. There is a great way of disabling EFI on my 255 so that it resembles a machine BIOS inherited, or

    2. This EFI is plugged into my new start-up recovery disk - and there is a way to create a recovery disk that doesn't use EFI

It took me about 2 weeks until now, and I'm at the point just junking this machine and Ubuntu installation!

    Hi Don,

I can certainly understand your concern and appreciate your efforts. As you mentioned you have made changes in the BIOS, you must contact the manufacturer to solve this problem (as mentioned by the previous Support Engineer).

    You are right.

You follow the manufacturer's instructions for use the recovery partition
on your hard drive. But if you completely erased the hard disk drive, which
partition disappeared, and you're out of luck. Contact the manufacturer.

  • How to install Windows Vista without an installation disk?

I want to preinstall Vista on my laptop. I have both the laptop with Win Vista license but there is no instalation disk. Now, I want to make a clear installation but I can't find a way to get a Vista disk. I am looking for the download link, but vain windows.com, I only get Service Pak 2 link. Help, please.

    Hello

There are several methods to reinstall Vista.

There is no Windows Vista downloads available from Microsoft.

You can contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send you a set of recovery disks.

They should do this for a small fee.

To reinstall Vista using their recovery disk/s, you start from the 1st recovery disk they provide and follow the manufacturer's instructions to reinstall:

You need to change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order:

How to change the Boot order in BIOS:

    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/SS/bootorderchange.htm

"How to replace Microsoft software or hardware, order service packs and replace product manuals.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/326246

And if you have never received a recovery disk when you bought your computer, there should be a recovery Partition on the hard drive to reinstall Vista on how you purchased your computer.

The recovery process can be started by pressing a particular combination of the key or keys at startup. (Power on / start)

    Maybe it's F10, F11, Alt + F10, etc., depending on the manufacturer.

Ask them to the proper key sequence.

And if you do not score a manufacturer of recovery on your hard drive, you should be able to make your own recovery from her disks to reinstall the operating system.

Go to programs > name of the manufacturer of your computer > then their system or recovery tools software topics for them, depending on how it is formulated.

If you can't find any reference to it, contact the manufacturer for advice on how to make these recovery disks.

Some manufacturers have more available Vista recovery disks.

If this happens, you may need to try this instead:

You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.

Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.

And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as 32-bit and 64-bit editions come on different DVDs

Here's how to do a clean install of Vista using a DVD of Vista from Microsoft:

"How to do a clean install and configure with a full Version of Vista '

    http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/117366-clean-install-full-version-Vista.html

And once the operating system is installed, go to your computer manufacturer's website and get the latest drivers for your particular model or laptop computer.

And phone Activation may be necessary when you use the above installation method.

  • How to install Windows XP without service pack in my new machine with a hard drive sata and sata dvd?

    Installation problem

    Hello

Not much to go here, but I'll try my best.

First of all, I hope that your PC has a floppy drive. If it isn't, this isn't the end of the world, but it will make things much more complicated.

Second, you must make sure that your motherboard BIOS is set according to your desired disk configuration. AHCI or RAID is the best but RAID is only if you want to set up a RAID. If you select IDE maybe you don't need the Setup F6 disk and the driver installation mentioned below.

You have perhaps been provided with F6 floppy by your motherboard manufacturer but, if not, download the XP driver for your SATA controller from the manufacturer's web site and create your own F6 driver diskette.

You must start your PC from the windows CD. Very shortly after the installation starting to show prompted to press F6 to another pilot. You have to hit F6 when you see this prompt. A few minutes later you will be asked to insert the Setup disk and identify your SATA controller. You should be able to continue with the installation later.

It is a simplified version of what needs to be done and only goes up to get the installation to begin.

If you want more specific help you should repost with exactly what installation problem that you are experiencing.

My friend has Windows 7 Home Premium 64 - Bit. It was re-installed and was not reactivated for 2 months (may not use either since activation period). Need to activate each time installed is not an option for him since he was a sailor and rarely have an internet connection or by phone in the middle of the sea. He took action by installing anti-virus software, but it is not enough to combat new virus. Is it possible to save at least activation? Need a quick answer.

Whenever you reinstall Windows, you will need to reactivate. The best work around is after installing Windows 7, you activate and create an image of the active installation system. So when you decide to reinstall Windows 7 in the future, you just restore the active picture.
