Portege 4000 - how to enable the WLan using W2k

Hello

I installed the driver for Lucent Wireless LAN (6.41.1.87) for this laptop that has W2K.

However, I can't control it! I also installed a wireless keyboard shortcut, but there are no instructions on it.

This laptop was initially W98SE top, and it's a fight to get this working.

Any ideas?

Hello

The FN keys are controlled by common Modules.
Please install common Modules to obtain the essential work of the FN.
In addition, you need to install Wireless Hotkey

In addition, there are two different drivers WLan for Portege W2k. Driver Wlan Cisco and Lucent Technologies Wlan driver.
Do not forget that you are using the correct driver.

    Hello!

Your wireless network card is recognized correctly in the Device Manager, or you may notice a yellow exclamation?
Her check first because otherwise, you can get the WLAN to work.

In addition, you can activate WLAN with the material on the laptop switch which must be set on and the FN + F8 key combination.
    Check it!

After this Free Config should find your WLAN router if you are in the range of that.

  • Satellite 2410-504: how to use and how to enable the WLan

    Hi all

I'm new to this forum and trying to get help on the use of wireless LAN. I have no model for laptop Toshiba Satellite series S2410-504. PS241E-5G7U9-EN. According to the manual, I have TypeIIIA Mini-PCI Wireless LAN.

I try to use the same to connect to SKY broadband, but unable to do so. In "Network connections", I see only TWO connections:
    1. network adapter 1394 - that I guess in the forewire network
2 Ethernet LAN - which is the wired network

I also tried using the Fn + F8 key combination to see if it is enabled, but no luck. Switch on the side of the laptop is in the position "On". Any help would be grateful and thanks in advance.

    Kind regards
    -Prashant

    Hello

I think you have misunderstood something.
    > According to the manual, I should have Mini-PCI Type III a wireless LAN.

The WiFi network is an option on this laptop. This means that your laptop could be delivered with or without this WLan card.
If Device Manager does not display the minPCI LAN card, then you laptop does not support this card! He s just not installed!

At the bottom of the unit, you should find the WLan minPCI slot. It should be placed near the memory slot.
The slot must be fixed by a screw.
However, if the laptop has no installed wireless network adapter you can upgrade the unit with a compatible.

I found a compatible Wlan card. It s the (PA3212U-1MPC) wireless LAN card number

  • Portege 4000 - how to install the display driver for XP?

    Hi-

I did a clean install of XP Portege 4000. The system has been previously default 98SE.

Noticed that there is a yellow exclamation point in other devices about the video controller (VGA compatible). I downloaded the display on the Toshiba site driver (if it is the right thing?), but can't seem to install. There is no setup.exe to help me.

My XP screen covers only 3/4 or more of the screen total, so that something is wrong somewhere...

    Hello

No, Toshiba don't support Linux or Ubuntu on the Portege 4000 and you can t find drivers for it on the Toshiba page. Only Windows drivers are available.

I m not an expert in Linux, but as far as I know you don t need additional graphic driver for Ubuntu. You should only change the resolution of the screen or something in the settings of the screen. I had the same problem on the first time I used Linux and I could solve it without additional driver but I put t know how I did it :(

    Hi Justin

The wireless network card can be activated very easily!
The WLan switch on the front panel should be lit. If the switch is turned on the led WLan should be on.
In addition, he must use the FN + F8 key combination to turn on the wireless network.
Then start configuring WLan using the right SSID and the encryption on the right key.
    That s all ;)

    Hello

AFAIK the Portégé R400 supports the TPM chip, but it must first be activated.
The special BIOS upgrade is required to activate this option.

But it's a little tricky to my knowledge only the Toshiba certified maintainer can do that.
So I would recommended contacting the service guy and ask a technician for more details!

  • Satellite 3000-514: how to enable the WLan Intel 2200BG material button

    Hello.

    I have a Toshiba Satellite 3000 514 and a WLan Mini - PCI Intel Centrino card. (Provided? ? ® PRO/Wireless 2200BG) running win - XP and Ubuntu.

Is there a solution to work around the problem, the wlan software wants to push me a hardware button to turn on wireless lan, that my laptop is enough?

In a German forum, that someone talked to solve the problem by using the 'easy', a program I already downloaded from Toshiba.
But you can only choose the .exe files to be connected to a button. Is there a .exe file to make the software think that I pushed that no wlan-hardwarebutton existion?

    * sigh * Help!

delicate sounds. I have no software solution for you, but I have another solution for you.

Since you're a German guy, you can check/read this:

It s a card atheros as I have in my Tecra 9100. So, I had a lot of problems with the card intel since they require a full work centrino
platform to work and so most of these cards are 'material' switch (in your case a button) to work.

With the card atheros Don t you have these problems with switch/button since they work at all times without the need for switches or buttons.
The downside is that you can't turn off the map for energy saving purposes.

So I hope that I could help you. Would appreciate some comments. :)

    Nice weekend.

    Hello

Hmm. Win 7 drivers are not yet out, but I found some beta readers on the Toshiba page we:
    http://www.CSD.Toshiba.com/cgi-bin/TAIS/support/JSP/home.jsp

Maybe you will find some Win 7 drivers for series L500/505

Otherwise I would recommend you to check if you can activate the WLan in Device Manager-> properties-> Advanced tab Wlan card

There are a few additional options, that maybe the WiFi we / off would be there also.

    Hello

I guess the 6 LED's LED wireless card.

This LED should shine when you activate the WLan switch on the side of the laptop.
Looks like you have not activated the WLan switch.
I put t know exactly where the WLan switch, but you should check the front of the laptop near the headphone jack.

    Check it out.
Then the LED should shine and you must activate the antenna with the FN + F8 key combination.

Any help on this would be appreciated you.
