Portege 4000 memory upgrade

I bought memory to upgrade my Portege 4000 (128 MB SDRAM SODIMM 144 pin) when I installed in the empty slot and turned on the laptop the green light at the top came on, power led but nothing started and no noise to suggest whatever it is started either!

I took this new module and leave the original in there and it starts perfectly. Does anyone know what is the problem?

Help, please!
Thanks in advance!

It s a clear man thing memory module is faulty, or you use only is not supported and not supported one!
The Portege 4000 supports max 1024MB (2x512MB) memory.
I think you should try the Toshiba recommended memory SDRAM like these modules:
PC133 512 MB (PA3108U - 1 M 51)
PC133 256 MB (PA3086U - 1 M 25)
PC133 128 MB (PA3085U - 1 M 12)

Good luck

  • Portege 2000 - memory upgrade

I am the owner of an old but good laptop Toshiba Dynabook SS 2000 (aka portege) 2000. The material is: P750 / 128 M / 20 Gb. long ago, RAM has been increased to 256 MB, but this is not enough.

Is it possible to replace with new 256 MB 128 MB module to increase the 384 MB RAM?
Or maybe the only adjust the volume as well as on the map?

Portege European 2000 can be upgraded to 512 MB. Memory module 256 MB compatible except for the number PA3158U - 1. 25 M.

I think you can use it on your Dynabook SS 2000. Check it out.

  • Slow Portege M300-> memory upgrade?

My laptop is getting quite slow - can I add more RAM to speed up the process? I am told that Norton AntiVirus slows down the computer - is this correct?

    Kristian

Of course you can upgrade memory for max 1280MB because there isn't that one expandable slot, the laptop has an internal memory of 256MB and it cannot be deleted.

You're also right with the suggestion on the Norton antivirus, I had installed this program in time there and I was disappointed. The request made my laptop OS slow like a turtle.
For several months, I use a freeware anti-virus application and I m very happy.

  • Re: Portege 4000 - Hardware upgrades

First of all, I would like to thank Toshiba to produce this a great product. This Toshiba laptop was bought in September 2001, with Windows 98 installed and runs another 10 years later! It is a great testament to the designers and developers at Toshiba.

I now have it brought in the real world with Windows XP!

I wonder if it is possible to upgrade the processor without replacing the motherboard? In addition, I bought a laptop PCMCIA USB 2.0 card. My dongle prefers the genuine USB Sockets, but is possible to catch from 1.1 to 2.0 or do I have to buy an external adapter?

    Thank you

    Hi meridius10,

Update CPU is not possible and not supported. You can read more information about this problem here:
    http://APS2.toshiba-tro.de/KB0/FAQ35006D000RR01.htm

If you have ports USB 1.0 on the laptop you can upgrade from t to USB 2.0 ports because it limited material s.

  • Can Portege 4000 - I upgrade card WLAN Draft N?

I finally decided to settle with XP and not 2000. While the performance is slightly slower, support will be better.

Noticed that the map internal wireless 802. 11 b, which is slow. Can it be replaced by a newer version (n or g?) or are there limits to the motherboard? Safer and more advisable to buy an external wireless card. This can go up to g n or alone?

Will also need to buy a USB 2.0 pc card, since it is only USB 1.1.

    Hello

You cannot use Draft N because N 2-wire antenna WLan 802.11 needs.
The old WiFi standards use 2 antenna cables and I guess this good old classic has been equipped with antenna WLan 3 son.

Only the standard WLan 802.11 G is therefore theoretically possible.

As far as I know, you need a Wlan card miniPCI 802.11 standard.
    So glasses for some options.

  • Portege 4000 1 GB memory upgrade?

    Hello!
I have an old laptop Toshiba Portege 4000.
The manual indicates a upgrade memory up to 512 MB (2x256MB) is possible. But the technical specification on toshiba-live website indicates an upgrade memory up to 1 GB (2x512MB) is possible.
I brought 2x512MB (SO-DIMM 512 MB SD RAM SDRAM PC133 PC 133 512 MB 144 PINS) ANONYMOUS memory from ebay and it does not work. The system does not start.

Now my question. Can I go up to 1 GB with the Kingston memory recommended toshiba or it just won't work in general?
Anyone here with experience on that?

    Thanks in advance.

    normally a portege 4000 is upgradeble up to 1 GB (2 x 512 MB sdram pc133, 3, 3v)

However the architecture and the number of tokens on the modules can cause an incomptability, so I guess that "misfortune."

on ebay-express you can find them for about 50 US$ (search for portege 4000; memory)

  • Portege 4000 - I would like to upgrade memory: 256 MB to 512 MB

    Hello

I have a Portege 4000 and want to upgrade the memory: 256 MB to 512 MB.
It has 98SE and the user always wants to keep this system.

Does anyone know if there is a known issue with the upgrade to 512 MB I saw a thread in 2005, by someone who had a problem?

I suppose that the memory SODIMM PC133. I ordered a 512 MB of RAM to aememory last year, but the system would have not even begun. Maybe they had sent me the wrong chip?

    Thank you

    Tim

Hmm. perhaps that the RAM modules are not 100% compatible
To my knowledge, it should be possible to upgrade the RAM up. 1 GB (2 x 512 MB)
You could also upgrade to 512 MB by using one or two 256 MB modules.

You must use the PC133 144 pin SODIMM modules and I found these modules that are compatible:
    PC133 512 MB (PA3108U - 1 M 51)
    PC133 256 MB (PA3086U - 1 M 25)

    Also on this page:
    http://www.orcalogic.co.UK/ASP/ProdType.asp?ProdType=5373&ft=m&St=3

There are a few modules that should work with the Portege 4000

  • Portege 4000 - upgrade RAM & graphic card driver installation

I'm having some trouble with my Portege 4000 for the moment. I installed XP on a disk, but will no longer have that I have 256 MB of RAM...

-Have you tried 2 manufacturers but the PC133 512 is not compatible. However, my system has an IBM of PC100 256 chip, which was bought early last year, after much trial and error, and I wonder now if the motherboard will be more suited to the PC100 and PC133 non?

-Consider the options alternative to XP, 98SE or 2000 because they are lighter operating systems. I can put it on a spare drive (test). Is it possible to set up a partition for recovery CD Rom (which has 98SE) on this subject and have little space left over to install another Linux operating system or its Manager partition crushes everything?

-J' put another post for .exe drivers related to the display/vga for 98SE and 2000.

-Just for the record, not all Linux distributions seem to go back on the size of the screen, so it takes some work...

    Thanks much for any help.

    The protégé 4000 is compatible with the PC133 modules! AFAIK, you can upgrade RAM of this notebook 1 GB (1024 MB) and you can use these modules;
    PC133 512 MB (PA3108U - 1 M 51)
    PC133 256 MB (PA3086U - 1 M 25)
    PC133 128 MB (PA3085U - 1 M 12)

You can create partitions on the HARD drive using a 3rd party like Partition Magic 8 tool. I use this tool and it's really nice.
After you create 2 or three partitions on the HARD disk, you could install different OS (operating systems).

  • Portege M780-10V upgrade questions

I'm glad my M780-10V and don't plan to change it too early, but I'd like to improve it.

I upgraded RAM 8 GB, although windows 7 32-bit recognizes only 2,9 GB - ideas?

Someone tried to move to Windows 7 64 bit, which should make more RAM available.

Has anyone swapped the drive and installed an SSD, I think also 250GB, I guess that it should be a real boost.

As for exchanging the i5 to an i7, I don't know who would be worthwhile - seems a costly change - as the i7 does not seem to add a lot by looking at different comparison sites.

    Thanks in advance.

    Simon

I upgraded RAM 8 GB, although windows 7 32-bit recognizes only 2,9 GB - ideas?

Win 7 32-bit as well as 32-bit systems recognize only 3.2 GB of RAM. This is the limit of 32-bit
Recommended to use the 64-bit system in case you have more than 3 GB of RAM
Portege M780-10V supports up to 8 GB of RAM so memory upgrade is possible.

Has anyone swapped the drive and installed an SSD, I think also 250GB, I guess that it should be a real boost.

The upgrade of the SSD HARD drive is the best move you could make... the performance gain will be noticeable. I made these updates on my Tecra laptop and am very happy with this...

In my opinion, this is not necessary and I wouldn't recommend upgrade you the processor. First of all Toshiba and other laptop manufacturers do not support these updates. No one knows if these updates would not affect the functionality of the laptop, and in the worst cases, the BIOS would not support a new processor.
At the other hand, you won't see the performance boost using new CPU... in my eyes these updates would be very useful.

  • Portege 4000 - Win 98SE want to update

I have a Portege 4000 and I'm looking to switch from Windows 98SE. The obvious alternatives are W2000, XP or Ubuntu Linux.

If I can find a full version of Windows XP Home edition, I'd be able to make a clean (rather than upgrade) installation and get drivers?
Officially, the laptop is only compatible with 98SE or 2000, but these systems are old now.

I imagine that if I update XP 98SE on it will keep all the drivers, but this is not my preferred method of installation and installs own are better.

Win98 uses Win95 Basic code, which is not compatible with NT/2000/XP. If the Win98 drivers do not work.

You must back up your documents, format C: then install fresh XP.

You can use the drivers Windows 2000 XP - sound basically the same operating system internally.
If for any reason any the Win2000 drivers do not work, you can use XP drivers from other models of same era.

  • Portege 4000 hard drive replacement

The hard drive on my portege 4000 has just crashed, can someone please provide guidance on a suitable replacement or upgrade part, where I can buy one and what does this change?

    Hello

replacing the HARD drive is not very difficult on laptops because especially HARD drive is laced at the bottom of the unit and it of only necessary to remove the cover.

To remove the HARD drive, follow the steps below:
    1. turn the computer.
    2. remove the two silver screws that attach the HARD drive cover.
    3. lift the cover of the HARD drive.
4 enter the plastic on the HARD disk tab to disconnect the system HARD drive, then pull the HARD drive.
    5. place the HARD drive on a flat pack and remove the four screws flat head.
    6. remove the HARD drive bracket.

    That s all :)

PS: I think you can use 10 GB, 20 GB and 30 GB hard drives
