Portege M100 just run half the speed - 600 Mhz

Hello
I have a Portege M100 that I found very slow until I discovered it was running half speed (IE 600 mhz). I tried everything in the Bios and in Toshiba utility, but nothing to do: always clocked at 600 Mhz.

Is there something I missed? y at - it 'special' something to do to allow him to run at full speed?

I thank the of in advance to anyone who helps!

Hello

As already suggested that the firmware must be updated! This portable strange behavior happens especially if the technician forgot to update this laptop runs only at 600 MHz.

Similar questions have been described a lot of time here in the forum.

  • Portege M100 - how to replace the RTC battery?

Hello, my Portege M100 RTC battery is flat. I managed to order one of the internet, but I can't locate. I disassemble almost every part of the computer, but if someone could just guide me and give the procedure to replace, that would be great. Thanks in advance!

    Hi friend

It s easy to replace the RTC battery on your machine. I already did and I had no problem when replacing, I mean it's a bit difficult to find the batt. but I will give all that to my experience. ;)

First look at the wireless lan card, West a slot under the slot lies the minipci wlan card. Near the wireless lan card slot is somewhat on the cover, this cover must be removed (quietly). The RTC battery is located in a white insulator, but before you peel this small battery, you must disconnect the battery from the motherboard. After unplugging it, simply lift the RTC and place a new.

That's all, unfortunately I can't serve you with some photos, so you'll have to imagine yourself. ;)

    Good luck and welcome

P.s.: If you feel uncomfortable by replacing the batt, then ask some tech to help you.

  • Portege M100 stop when unplug the a/c adapter - battery problem

    Hi people,

Laptop for my wife, it's a Portege M100 3 or 4 years, which is seems a good machine, although the hard drive failed and had to be replaced recently.
However, there is also a problem with the battery charging.

The machine works very well when connected to AC power whether the battery is or not, but as soon as you remove the power cable it stops working immediately, it is to say everything, including the fan stops immediately.

The sign of the battery on the top edge of the screen/cover blinking orange.
I figured it was the battery that had given up and bought an another toshiba (IE not a compatible but the real thing) and he slotted in but still.

This problem above the hard drive has been changed also.

    Any thoughts or ideas?
    Thank you very much

    > The sign of the battery on the top edge of the screen/cover blinking orange
Are you sure that it is a LED battery?
AFAIK the battery LED indicates the State of charge of the battery.
Green: charging completely charged and orange way. But in both cases the LED does not flash/blink.
Only the power adapter LED will Flash orange if feeding malfunctions and the voltage is abnormal.

But if the battery LED flashes then I guess this code refers to the battery failure.
You should always buy a battery recommended by Toshiba and not other 3rd party products.
The manufacturer of the HARD drive is not important, but if the battery is dead so you can buy one that is part supported by Toshiba

  • Tecra M5 on Ubuntu 7.04 - running on half the speed

It's quite strange, but I just can't get all the power of my TecraM5. As I said, I mainly use Ubuntu, but the same problem is observable with Fedora, Suse or Mandriva (to cite only a few I've tried).

The performance of my system seems pretty gloomy for the 2 hearts on each run on more than 2 GHz. And when I compare the results to the Geekbench benchmarking program with the results of the same machine, but on the preinstalled WinXP, I can see the performance on Windows is approximately doubled.

I was able to find a utility called "toshset" that shows me that the processor is running in mode 'slow' on linux. But there is no way to force mode 'rapid '. And Yes, the frequency scaling works as expected. If I force the scaling to use only 1 GHz CPU, I get the matching results to the Geekbench.

This 'feature' is quite annoying - my TecraM5 with dual core 2.16 GHz on is significantly slower than TecraM3 of my colleague, both running Ubuntu 7.04

If anyone of the Toshiba tech guys can suggest a solution, I'd be the happiest.

    Good day

    JB

    Hello

Unfortunately nobody Toshiba reads our posts about despair and problems with our "babys", but I suggest you to go to the homepage of toshset and make your questions here because here not many people use feisty on M5. I have a Tecra 9100 with feisty fawn running and it works like a charm :)

Or perhaps indicating an SOS in the ubuntu forums would be useful. :)

Welcome and good luck - may the source be with you

I have a portege 7200 with the docker dock 2 dvd, no problems until this weekend, when it stopped starting.

its plugged into the power outlet and it starts the first windows 98 after the screen time, works my virus checker then the screen goes black, computer stops and the led on flashes.

ive tried to boot from a CD, using the battery, reinstall windows, all I can think about

    Thanks for your help.

    Hello

Have you tried to run the notebook without the docking station?
If this isn't the case, then try it.
Also, try to remove the battery for a while. Then try to start the unit only with the power adapter.

But generally, if the LED flashes then this means that there is a hardware malfunction.
The flash code can only be read by the authorized service partner. Guys are able to find the hardware failure.
Well well, in this case, if the procedures described above don? help I recommend you contact Toshiba service partner in your country.

    Good luck

  • My wireless laptop have double the speed of the internet than my Wired desktop pc

I just bought the Linksys E2000 and configure properly with a single office (wired connection), adapter of a phone (wired connection) and two laptops (both connected wireless).  Everything works very well - the phone works and all computers can access the internet.  However, every one of my laptops get a speed of 25 to 30 Mbps but my office (which even once, is connected by ethernet cable to the router) is only to get a speed of less than 15 Mbps.  That's nearly half the speed of laptop computers.  When the office is directly connected to the modem, it gets the same speed than laptops, about 25-30 Mbps.  If the router is somehow reducing the speed of the internet from my office by about 50%.  If a wired connection still should not be faster than a wireless?

I chat and talked with Linksys on 5 customer support representatives, tried all the settings, they have suggested, re-installed the software, but none of them could find an answer.  One of them acknowledged that this is not normal and suggested a return to the store and return the router to another.  I'm not changing it and exactly the same thing is happening then it is probably not a hardware problem.  It is a setting that needs to be configured or this router simply gives slower speeds for wired devices.  I hope it's something that I can configure.  Can anyone suggest anything?  Everyone knows this?

I just bought the Linksys router E4200 today (the new router Linksys from this date).  I tested it on my computers without changing anything (except of course re - install the new CD of Cisco Connect).  This time, my office is at normal speed (25-30 Mbps) and my laptops were still a bit faster than before.  It's certainly better that way.  It was certainly the router, something in the E2000 was slowing down the wired connection to my office at 50% of what it was supposed to be.

Note that I could have lived with the reduction in speed in my office who was originally the E2000.  15 Mbps is always suitable speed for most of the tasks of the internet.  I understand that it is a long-term feature that I use for many years.  So, I would prefer that there are no glitches at first.  My router Linksys previous lasted me 10 years and could still running even longer.  Its technology of 2001 all new computers support I have had over the years and also a VoIP phone adapter and served fine as a mobile Wi - Fi Blackberry and Droid hotspot.  So I'm looking forward to using it again for just as long if all goes well.

Moreover, the E4200 was not easy to find.  From this date, Amazon.com and Bestbuy.com do it have yet because it's so new.  Electronic no Fry did.  I got the chance to find it in a Best Buy store without an appointment.  No other Best Buy store that was in my area, this alone (maybe they are the first in my area).  I paid $149 plus tax (compared to $69 more taxes for the E2000).  After reading all the comments on this subject and my own experience, for me, it is definitely worth paying the extra for it.

  • Satellite L850 - error of cooling and slow down the speed of the CPU even when fan to 80 c

So, I have this problem that my fan stops turning when the system is under load and then turns on, starts running at the speed of 100%, an error which says error with cooling system, laptop computer back to the service.

The fan slows even when the laptop cools completely, it only returns to normal speeds once I closed the laptop.

In the last few days, which has stopped completely. Now the fan won't even middle speeds even though the CPU temperature is 80 C. Due to the bad news of cooling time score about 70 ° C, even at idle.

The laptop is almost a year. I already had this problem after a week of buying it, and they replaced my processor. I have windows 7 x 64, amd 7670 m and 2350 m i3.

I wonder if this may be a BIOS problem or I have to take for the service? How can I stop this from happening? And Yes, my power plan is on high performance.

AFAIK the cooling fan is controlled automatically if you don t have a any influence on it. Temperature sensors are placed on the motherboard and they control the cooling fan activity. That one possibility to change fan cooling activity is to change the option in the option of cooling method (advanced power settings > Toshiba saving settings).

In my opinion the best solution for you is to contact the nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help.
They have diagnostic tools that you can check all this.

  • Portege M100 does not start - power light flashes orange

    Hi all

    I have a Portege M100.
Since ysterday, the computer does not boot. When I push the power button, I hear the noise of the fan starts working, but nothing else happens. The power light continues to blink in orange.
I removed the battery and tried to turn on the computer with the AC adapter is plugged in, but nothing changes.

Any ideas on what could be the problem? I would appreciate help,
    Thanks in advance

    Yalin

    Hi mate,

could possibly be the RAM, so please check the RAM modules and remove 1 module if you have 2 of them installed.
Otherwise, I check if some another module of RAM is available and install the module of well known work. If this is not sufficient then I strongly recommend you to bring your machine to a service partner chartered for a balance of health/repair of equipment.

Please give some information about your situation...

P.S.: you can try to remove the battery and AC and leave the machine without power for about 24 hours. Maybe it helps?

    Welcome them

  • Portege M100 runs at 600 MHz after the BIOS/FRIMWARE upgrade

    Hello

I received a Portege M100, this week, installed Debian GNU/Linux (Sid) on it and almost everything was fine.
Then I upgraded to the latest BIOS/FIRMWARE (from V1.10 to V1.50) and now my Pentium M 1200 MHz running at half speed.
I can not load also cpufreq, which controls the speed of the cpu.

I see this problem is already known, then:
It will come a new BIOS/FIRMWARE fix for this?

What do you mean by "I saw that this problem is already knowna? ¦ »
Where do you find the description for a same problem?

Usually the BIOS update should not have any influence 'wrong' on the speed of the CPU!

Have you checked the BIOS option called "dynamic CPU frequency mode".

This option is also in the Toshiba HWSetup. You can also switch between 'high' and 'always low '.

Not sure if it is a problem, but the CPU runs at half the frequency. I put the high performance plan and still the same. I think it should work at full power.

I also tried to disable the CPU power option in the BIOS and nothing helped.
To monitor the use CPU - Z and Speccy.

    What you think about this?
    Is it normal?

    Hello

The Intel CPU supports the Intel Turbo Boost technology
Dynamically, this Intel Turbo Boost technology increases the frequency of the processor as needed by taking advantage of thermal and power margin to give a burst of speed when you need it and increase energy efficiency when you don t.

The CPU also supports Enhanced Intel SpeedStep technology

Enhanced Intel SpeedStep technology is a means of which allows high performance while meeting the needs of conservation of energy of advanced mobile systems. Conventional Intel SpeedStep® Technology puts both voltage and frequency in tandem between high and low levels in response to the processor load. Enhanced Intel SpeedStep® technology is based on this architecture using design strategies such as the separation between the voltage and the frequency changes and clock partitioning and recovery.

Y at - it a possibility (update of the BIOS? etc.) to fix?

    Thanks for your support!

    Hey,.

That s the speed step function and the kicks in the multiplier 5 x to save energy.

Check the BIOS if you can find the setting on the speed step and turn it off. If you do not have such an option in the BIOS choose another plan and the value 100% minimum processor state. It will always run at 2.0 GHz.

  • Portege M100 - blocked processor at 600 Mhz, have tried all BIOS versions

Just my BIOS was about 1.20 when I went to site Web from Toshiba to get the drivers to install and to found the update the BIOS so I followed instructions burn it to a disk, the last one I have and I went, but after the update, I noticed that xp says he was clocked at 600 MHz not 1 2 GHz.

So I used the cpuid to see if it is xp, but it shows as running 598,6 MHz processor and can flow to 600,4 MHz max so I went in the BIOS tried off sleep CPU max CPU and so restarted then I thought it was the xp so I reinstalled but still the same I used Suse Linux always the same.

I've reflashed the BIOS with 1.50 through the same restarted windows. I get on where and it becomes ridiculous, even, I went and found all BIOS versions on the US site of Toshiba, which dates back to version 1.10 to 1.50, so I tried all the. Nothing!

I am really puzzled that anyone can sort this is really boring and slow.
    Thank you in advance

    Hello

Just a question; the motherboard has been replaced by the past?

I know, after the replacement of the motherboard, the test & diagnosis must be performed in order to update the CPU microcode on the circuit board.
If the firmware is not updated your CPU would be stuck at 600 Mhz.

In order to update the firmware, the ASP must be contacted.

The other reason why the CPU runs only at 600 Mhz is the setting low processing CPU Toshiba power saver.
Check if the Toshiba power saver is installed on your laptop and set the options at a higher level.

    Check it out

  • Portege M100 with PM 1, 2 processors, but the only race on 598 MHz

Please help, I have 10 pcs M100 and 7 of them have no setting in the Bios to "Dynamic CPU frequency setting" (all the CPU speed, still weak, still strong, dynamic). The laptop which do not have this setting to always operate at 598 MHz I have already check with Sisoft Sandra and in windows system properties. Properties always show that computers laptops Pentium-M 1, 2 GHz 598 MHz. no different between running with the mains or battery adapter.

Other one with dynamic CPU frequency setting, can dynamically adjust processor clock. They can function normally to 1200 MHz.

    Hello

The dynamic mode of the CPU frequency is available in Toshiba HWSetup.
There you can switch between mode dynamically switchable, still high and low fashion.

    Please check!

  • Disk error when you exit the Portege M100 in standby mode

    Hello all :)

Have a Portege M100 for general use with WXP Pro installed.
Recently decided to upgrade to a DVD - rom DVD burner, then bought a Sony DW-Q250A burner.
Installed and it worked, but I continue having problems when the computer wakes from sleep, I get the message "ERROR #1 IDE", while the system reboots without additional probs in windows

The problem is, once this happens, the DVD player then disappears from the window 'my computer' and is not visible in the "Device Manager", until I remove the disc, back up and then analyze for pop. "p in Device Manager devices, it reappears as nothing has happened."
I thought it might have been a conflict with the IDE bus (ie the two - disk HARD & DVD - disks configured as master) so I put a rider on the HARD disk to make the slave drive (which looks like to mean a change of firmware on the DVD drive for this) but it just created more probs... Then I got a message "ERROR of IDE #0" extra when I did and the machine would not boot from the HARD drive.

Any thoughts would be welcome? :|

    Mark

    Hi mate,

"first of all I would like to explain the IDE #0 error: it s quite understandable given that the HARD drive is the * FIRST * player of all and must stand the * FIRST" by car, which means that you jumper shouldn´t to a slave drive. It must be a master, otherwise, as in your case, the boot of won´t machine.
    in
So you have 2 IDE channels (primary and secondary IDE channel), and each channel has a master and a slave. Apart from the HARD drive that is located on the main channel, your DVD player is naturally on the secondary channel configured as the master drive.
Here´s a bit 'image': D to explain it:

    -> Primary channel-> Master = HARD drive
    -> Slave = nothing

    -> Secondary channel-> Master = DVD
    -> Slave = nothing

    Regarding your problem:

I have no definitive solution for you, but I can give you some advice. First download the latest BIOS for your machine and upgrade to the latest version. Then download the latest drivers and install them. After that, look for an update of the firmware of your player of DVD and last but no less check the database of microsoft for known issues as any of the similar issues are known for me with drives toshiba toshiba machines.

    Would be worthy to try

    :)

  • How can I change the speed of a track (just change of tempo, but in a way that affects the field)?

I would like to be able to reproduce (essentially) the function of this feature of Audacity:

Change of speed - Wiki of Audacity

In Audacity, when I use the "change of speed", it changes the record in a way to play a tape slower or faster than normal speed (where pitch moves parallel to the speed). Hearing seems to have some tools that modify the two pitch and time both - the closer, I found to what I want to accomplish is the tool of 'Stretch and Pitch', with the stretch and Pitch Shift locked - but the end result is much worse (or at least significantly different) than what I get from Audacity.

The goal with this must be able to set up a lesson on the interaction between frequency, height and time, and the problem I have is that it doesn't seem to be a solution in one simple step, in hearing to change an audio clip in the most basic ways. I'm afraid that I'm just missing where this feature can be, because it seems disconcerting that this operation is not really there. Any help is appreciated - thanks!

That would be the obvious effect to use. How are you trying to change the pitch and speed?

There is another method you can try to use the sampling frequency interpret in the Edit menu. Put in a sampling rate double that of the rate of your original file, will read at double speed and half the sampling rate will be read half speed etc. If you want to save the result in a new file, you will need to convert rates new sample to the original sampling to help convert the Type of sample.
