Portege M300 (PPM30A) - lost access to HARD drive recovery
Portege M300 model PPM30A-02E001.
At some point during the installation a Sony camera I lost access to my hidden partition (HDDRECOVERY) where I can make the recovery disks.I can see it in disk management tools, but the link is missing.
Is there a way I can make the link? "Brand recovery disc" icon is gone as well.
Please, I beg you.
Hello
Wait a moment, please: why you write about on the hidden partition HARD drive recovery? I think you mixed up something!
On Vista and Windows 7, there is a hidden partition, but it has nothing to do with the option HDDrecovery from Toshiba. This on the hidden partition is a feature of Windows, also called Windows recovery environment!Normally HDDrecovery files are stored on the second partition in a file of the same name. Can you access the second partition?
If this isn't the case, I think the only chance is to order a new recovery disk. Therefore, you must contact the service provider authorized in your country.

Recovery disk to a partition on Portege M300
Hello
I reinstalled my xp win since another cd of xp on portege m300 laptop and does not burn a recovery disk hard of the with windows that provided thoshiba computer, with his comments today that you burn your own backup instead of they send you an original cd of win xp. I want a cd backup/recovery cd now and I see that they compartmentalized (or what his name) a separate 2, 5 GB hd with the name "HDDRECOVERY".
This resulted in my windows has installed on E: cause it's a 2, 5 GB partioned HDspace C: windows called and I could choose E: to install win xp and I didn't erase the siloed 2, 5 GB of space. I toughed I somehow could access this file of 5 GB HD 2, but it dosen´t show in 'my conputer' in the windows disk management tools not. You can't do anything in this manegmant tool so that it can show in "my computer". I would like to access this area and burn this HDDRecoveryfile so I can get my respective windows that followed when I bought the computer from the win xp serial that is provided under this cumputer did not work with my new cd of win xp.
PS. How to install windows on C: If the installer of windows think that c is the 2, 5 GB partioned file? I don't want to delete it.
Hello Andrew
The situation with the Portege M300 is a bit complicated, but I'll try to explain. Portege M300 (I believe only in Germany) is delivered without Recovery DVD and also Tools & Utilities CD. The two of them can be created by the user, but only if the appliance is preinstalled at the factory. The unit of the factory preinstalled with original image contains a tool called Recovery Disc Creator. With this tool, you can create the two media. There is no way to do it without this tool.
Unfortunately this tool you can not find on the Toshiba download page. Because of this, you can keep that partition on the HARD drive but it has no sense at all. You have your own OS preinstalled without Recovery Disc Creator.
There are two solutions:
1. you can format entire HARD drive, create clean partitions and install own OS using all things, that you can find on the Toshiba download page.
2 contact authorized please partner in your country. They may try to order the original DVD of recovery for you. If this recovery DVDs is not available the service partner can make factory settings again but with costs. That s all I know Portege M300 and preinstalled software. If you have any other questions, please write again.
Good luck!

Other ideas that... install XP?
Hello
I put t know how you installed the drivers but I found an installation on the Toshiba site statement. It is very important that you need to install drivers in the correct order. Utility of common modules and chipset are very important.

Portege M300 - Ubuntu, bootmgr error
Hi guys,.
I hope you can help, I spent 2 days reading similar posts, but nothing seems to work.
I installed Ubuntu on an external hard drive (using my Vista machine). Can I boot Ubuntu from my Vista machine without any problem.
However, I now want to use this hard drive Ubuntu in my new NetBook (for me). (Toshiba, Portege, M300). However when I install my Ubuntu HD in this machine I get the infamous error "bootmgr is missing". I REALLY hate this error now.
So I did my research and give EACH of them thinking that I should use my Vista recovery DVDs for this problem. Why the hell do I need to use a Vista CD when it comes to pure Ubuntu installation?
Can someone give me some ideas? Computers laptop Toshiba require Bootmgr (i.e. an installation of windows?)
Please PLEASE help,
MarcPS thanks in advance...
You don't need a special boot manager, Linux should start very well after a successful installation.
Did you delete all partitions on the HARD disk before you install Linux?
It seems that the Windows boot sector is still installed.

Portege M300: Is the protection of HARD drive only for the brand of Toshiba drives?
Hello
I am trying to upgrade my Portege M300 with a hard drive bigger, as seen on the Portege forum, I posted the thread after that two hard drives from samsung does not similarly, shortly after the installation of the new.
I just want to know if the protection of Toshiba HARD drive utility is simply made for Toshiba hdd or if it can work on any other brands of hard drives of brand. As I say, I want to upgrade a 60 GB to 160 GB and 2 new hard drive failed. I've since updated my bios to the latest version and I also consider not to install this hard drive protection feature, just in case where it will cause problems once more with my 3rd HDD replacement of same nature.
I appreciate any thoughts on this.
Thank you very much
CHello
Usually it s any manufacturer is.
If the HARD disk supports the CHIP so it should be possible to use this HARD drive.
The HARD disk protection tool verifies the parameters of the HARD disk.
But the settings are configured by HDD manufacture then it might be possible that the HARD disk will not work if the tool would not choose the settings correctly. -
Portege M300 - how to install driver LAN
Hello
I got a new hard drive put in my Portege M300 and managed to get the drivers all released on except the lan and a modem.
I found the drivers here and make them, but which file do I use to install the application? ...
I have one that says "PRO network driver uninstaller connections" but nothing obvious for amd installation... no files for directions...Any help appreciated.
Thank you
How to install the LAN driver?
It is very easy, you can install it in the Device Manager.First of all, you need the correct LAN driver.
You can find the Portege M300 on the Toshiba drivers European page driver-> * Archives *.After the LAN driver has been downloaded, you must unzip this package.
Then go to Device Manager, select the unknown device (NIC) in the network adapters, select install or update the driver and follow the instructions on the screen.Welcome them

Usually, this page should be used to get the recovery for Toshiba laptops disk:
https://backupmedia.Toshiba.EU/landing.aspxBut as mentioned above, the notebooks are not supported.
You can also ask your ASP for may also drive, they might help you otherwise you'll need and real CD for Microsoft Windows and the drivers can be downloaded from the page of European of Toshiba driver!
PS: to choose Archive in the form of driver download!

Portege M300: Creating dualboot (two time Windows XP Pro)
Hello
just curious, if you have experience with the creation of dual-boot Windows XP on M300. (The reason is that I need second OS to start immediately if one goes down, what happened to me).
I failed to create stable systems. There is no problem to install separately on 2 partitions (I am aware that the BIOS has limit of 128 GB limit, so that they are 12 and 221 GB large, on the 250 GB drive). But after a couple of reboots, second partition starts to hang on the blue screen, or said "Missing Hal.dll" and so on.
I reinstalled like 15 times, tried different configurations, modified boot.ini, code mbr, windows, partitions NTFS or FAT32, managers start Recovery console, recover from Toshiba CD, installed since I386 with the windows key, but the problem is that second installation of windows finally just 2 months maximum. And then - «lack \system32\DRIVERS\psi.sys, missing \system32\DRIVERS\system missing \system\DRIVERS\hal.dll...» »
Any suggestion is welcome.
Hello
AFAIK the Portege M300 supports IDE ATA 6 HDD interface.
Since this interface supports 48-bit LBA, you should be able to serve a larger sizes of 250 GB HARD drive. In any case, have you tried to create a small partition and reinstall the OS?
Select this check box. Also I discovered that this laptop supports an internal memory.
Looks like there are 256 MB internal memory...However, I searched and bit for similar problems and the error messages like:
missing hal.dll missing \system32\DRIVERS\system or missing \system32\DRIVERS\psi.sys is mainly related to a hardware problem. might be a faulty HARD drive or defective memory causes questions too.I think of areas of defective HARD drive or something like that...

Is it possible to upgrade RAM in Portege M300
Is it possible to increase the RAM in Portege M300 laptop?
Hello
Yes, it is possible.
Especially this oldie came with 512 MB (2 x 256 MB) of RAM installed.
It should be possible to extend the RAM 1024 MB (2 x 512 MB)I think that details could be found in the user manual that you can download on the Toshiba page:

Help Portege M300 (OS) recovery required
Hi, I had a Portege M300 who served me well as a student unforunately that gave up the hard drive. I have now bought a replacement drive and had hoped to run a restore cd but I cant find it (maybe I never had one for that.
Can someone help me out here?
Otherwise it seems that I have to buy an operating system for which will cost even more money
Hello
It s unplausible that no restore cd shipped with your machine. Your machine was not one of these glorious Vista/Xp machines with a HARD drive recovery.
Thus, you can find better the CD because the only choice you have is-to pay for a new recovery by having an authorized partner
-to pay for a Windows XP tablet edition and download all the drivers
-pay nothing and try to work with linux
-to pay nothing because you have found the CDSo you can see your selection and there is not a lot. Take a handful of chance and prey that you will find the CD, otherwise, you will pay.
SRY mate...

Portege M300-101 - every 30 min I get a BSOD
I have a Portege M300-101 (Windows XP) and every 30 minutes I comes up with a blue screen with a text about 1 sec so I can't read it, then restarts and happen in 30 minutes
Hello!
It's not easy to say what are the causes of the problem, but as said Akuma, test the RAM with Memtest86.
Download the image, burn it to a disc and start from it.Automatic restart, you can also disable in Windows.
My computer-properties-Advanced online online => startup and recovery settings => remove the mark to restart automatically.Sometimes, this problem is caused by the HARD drive. You can test with the Test Drive for physical fitness.

Portege M300 - question: How can I format the HARD drive?
Hello
I saw Toshiba Portege M300 and try to format my laptop. When I try to use the CD to boot (DVD release) at the start, but I have the "CD/DVD" option, it s not poster not options 'formatting of disks', instead it goes to the login window. I have windows XP OS in my laptop.
I don't know why this problem is coming. Please let me know the possibility of fixing this issue, or the option in the form of my laptop without recovery DVD.
Thanks in advance for your time and reply.
