Portege M400: Question on changing of JBOD RAID

I have a M400 with driver SATA/RAID KR10I.
I managed to have
(a) a disk with RAID via BIOS, running / from XP SP2
(b) a disc with JBOD via BIOS, running / from XP SP2 (available with external USB too)
c) a clone of one) on a disc with JBOD (accessible with external USB too) but not starting not not by XP (error message STOP 7 or something like that)

Not finding the important difference between a) and b) inside the registers to c) bootable too!
Any suggestions?

Hello

you know that JBOD and RAID 0/1 are not the same. As you know, JBOD means "Just a bunch of disks", which has just PARTICULARY to do with the raid, because the HDD´s are treated as simple readers on their own, and when the raid then every disc is bounded somehow another disc, without worrying whether the disk is online or not.

I think that the difference between the two modes on your laptop is, that the system doesn´t need to raid driver to run JBOD, but requires a when running on raid 0/1.

So in your case, the problem is, you have an OS that has been installed with a raid driver and the system tries to load the raid driver but can't find it because there is no active RAID.

Maybe you should read this article:

http://en.Wikipedia.org/wiki/RAID

There is no listed JBOD, but I think that if you spend more then 5 minutes of reading then you will understand my explanation.

Or simply: JBOD is not a RAID mode. It s pure and simple HARD normal mode of a disk drive.

Welcome them

  • Portege M400: How to change the size of the graphics memory 945GM?

    Hello

Is anyone know how can I limit the minimum and maximum graphics memory on 945 GM Graphics Card (M400).
My goal is to put FIXED to 128 so that I don't have freezes when video memory change. It of VERY annoying and punishes my work (Office 2007 is very eager or on video and main memory).

    Thank you
    Filipe

    Hello Filipe

It will be interesting to know what you mean under punishing work of Office 2007.

In any case AFAIK on Intel (shared memory) graphics card it is not possible to fix the graphics memory to a specific value (no BIOS settings and also no matter what setting in advanced display settings). If you want to use more RAM for the graphics I recommend you to upgrade RAM.

Sorry, but I don't see any other solution.

  • Portege M400: Installtion Windows - cannot install the RAID driver

    Hello world
I installed my original form of the system DVD Toshiba (60 GB partition).
So, I bought the second system with my notebook (Windows XP Pro OEM PL) and I want to install it on my second partition. When installing WinXP installer asked me about RAID driver on drive A: (I USB floppy drive, so it's no problem)... next step - partitioning - no problem. But when Windows starts to copy files (after select and format partition), ask again on RAID driver disk A: - and that is the problem, because my floppy drive is not present (maybe disable it windows after formatting the partition, I don't know)...
    There is also no results:
-J' tried to install Windows on USB HDD, but there are blue screen after the first reboot,.
-J' have tried to compile the RAID driver in driver.cab, this does not (or I did wrong).
Someone has an idea how to install my second system? It is OEM, and I don't want to lose him.
.. Sorry for my poor English :)...

    Hello

After installing the driver RAID you should not make any partition or format the HARD drive.
If you do this, the RAID driver is deleted and you will get an error.

So do all the changes on the HARD disk before you install the RAID driver.

  • Windows 7 can't detect the TOSHIBA Portege M400 RAID driver

I put to level my M400 tablet from Windows XP to Windows 7.

Questions of compatibility check out, all right. In research I realized I needed to upgrade the RAID driver to a version of Win7. So I downloaded which, from my external hard drive to install to Win7, and installing Win7 can't find it. I tried the same thing with a variant of Vista with no luck. Even through the installation on the hard drive itself, nothing happened. Impossible to get in the tio silent run command prompt, absolutely nothing. I'm back where I throw this computer out of my 4th story window.

    Any help please?

    Hello

Where did you download the RAID driver?
Please try to download the RAID driver on the Toshiba site directly. These drivers are pre-tested and should work on your laptop too.

The older Portege M400 taken Windows 7 isn't supported so in the worst case, you can t use it.
But normally the drivers should work on Vista so make sure you are using the correct driver.

  • Portege M400 HDD - password and drive upgrade questions

    1. How can I change the hard drive password? the Toshiba utilities allow me to change the password of the BIOS but not the hard drive password

    2. If a secondary hard drive is mounted, it is possible to run the DVD writer as an external Bay? y at - it a connector / converter available?

    3. If Toshiba RAID mirroring is enabled, this speed of disk read time? for example reading speeds could theoretically be doubled by interlacing readings on the two disks - what is the difference of real world performance?

    4. are there restrictions on the internal hard drive?
I bought a new hard drive from Toshiba (MK1234GSX / 120 GB) and mounted in secondary drive Bay, it works, I cloned the existing overall hard drive and it is even possible to boot from the secondary drive and see both drives.
However if I replace the internal drive with the new drive, I can see the drives in the bios, but blue-screens of windows at startup: error seems to be that windows does not find the disk...

When I add the original disk to the secondary drive Bay and start since I also can't get windows to recognize the new drive.
This doesn't seem to be a simple problem of windows, because windows is happy to start on the new drive in the high Bay, so I ask if there is some restrictions at the end of Windows...

5 Why have saved my Portege M400 website it says: "sorry, but this product is not available in your region."

    Thanks for any advice,
    Jonathan

1.) as far as I know the HARD drive password can be changed in the BIOS
But beware, if you forget or type the HARD drive HARD drive password will be locked and you will not be able to access the HARD disk. In this case, the HD is not more usable.

(2.) the Ultra Slim bay is a single drive bay that welcomes the reader of CD/DVD or a secondary HARD disk.
The extension utility from Toshiba Mobile allows the insertion of hot of these modules.
I found this info in the user manual and following modules can be installed in the Bay ultra slim:
-Ultra Slim adapter HARD drive Bay: this will allow you to install a HARD drive in option
-Kit ultra Slim bay DVD-ROM drive or DVD super multi drive kit
    -Disk (SATA) HARD drive kit
The adapters you will need to order of the ASP

(3.) I did not notice any differences in speed reading while the RAID has been enabled or disabled. (I used the Qosmio G20 with RAID)

4.) Please check the manual for compatible HARD drive sizes!

5.) maybe the M400 is not available in your country or region. But it s only my suggestion

  • Portege M400 - RAID driver for Windows 7

I'm doing a clean install of Windows 7 64 bit on a Toshiba Portege M400.

I have the computer with the boot CD in, by scanning my fongerprint, press a key to start from the CD, enter the country, click on install now, accept the license, select custom installation and get an empty listview, asking me where I want to install windows.

I insert a memory stick with drivers from the download page of Tosh (selection of laptop |) Portege | Portege M series | Portege M400 (3G) | PPM41E | Windows XP Tablet Edition | RAID driver, which seems to accurately describe my machine), but the installer just give you the message: no signed device not found driver. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers, and then click OK.

Can someone point me in the right direction please?

    A.

    Hello!

Drivers Windows XP don t work on Windows 7's the reason why you can t install Windows 7 successfully.

You should try it with Vista driver again. The Vista drivers are also work on Windows 7. I think that's all you can do at the moment.

    Good luck! :)

I have a Portege M100 - and the CD-ROM drive does not work.

  • Portege M400 - XP Setup cannot detect any HARD disk

    Hello world

I have everything, what I can and can't try. During the Installation of Windows XP cannot detect any HARD disk.

    PORTEGE M400 PPM40E-0DG0253I
    BIOS 3.8

Installation of Vista properly with RAID, but XP installation drivers won't work for all that. I try a lot of drivers (versions even for Vista), with integration of nLite, with SD-start 16-bit back, DriverPacks. I bought no change - disk-USB, the laptop cannot see HDD. I try also with the USB-SATA external enclosure, but this without success, but I can see the HARD drive

    Any ideas?

    Somehow you lack driver SATA.

  • Portege M400-146 slow startup performance

My 400 is significantly slow starts, compared to a lower specification laptop that this device was intended to replace. In addition to the understanding of the product, I see that there are more than 90 processes that run on this laptop more almost two times more than my previous unit and a lot more than my Small Business server that runs Win2k3/Exchange/ISA. My question is are there problems by removing the plethora of background tools that are of little use to me, specifically RAID/configfree

In addition there of the best-known problems associated slow performance/hang up with IE? There is an article that should resolve the issues of States with both software and an upgrade, but he didn't, even the last published this month made no difference.

In general, this unit is much slower than my previous spec'd base, grateful suggestions

    Hello

I agree with you. Many processes of background can slow performance of the laptop.
But it is a simple fact. Each application or function on the laptop needs a clean process.
Portoge M400 is a portable high-tech and you can not compare with a low price laptops or office that support only a common features.

The Portege M400 supports the RAID Utility, HDD Protection, Tablet PC button, utility zooming, Rotation, ConfigFree, controls, utility of fingerprints and so on and the rest.

Of course, you can just disable or remove other feature requests, but then I wonder why you use the Portege M400 with the features and tools together?

But you can try to upgrade the memory. To my knowledge the Portege M400 supports 4 GB memory max. The upgrade improves performance.
