Portege M400 - upgrade HARD drive protection and vibration

I think the upgrade from 80 GB to 500 GB HARD drive, but I was wondering how this affects the protection against vibration - I should get a player that has not integrated it and the new disc will have the same protection against vibrations the original - that is I presume the protection mechanism is outside the drive and just parks the drive head when it detects a movement.

... actually looks that most have detection of shock, I'll go with a Toshiba drive because it stresses peace.

Hey Buddy!

Hmm... First of all I'm not sure if a 500 GB will work in your laptop if only 80 GB HARD drive is installed. I m also asks that you need as much disk space in a laptop. For example, 160 or 250 GB is enough for me because I store most of my data on s to external HARD disk or DVD.
Let me give you a little advice: in this case I'm going to my local computer store and talk with the seller which HARD disk, it can recommend. After that, I was able to test the HARD drive in a computer store and, for example, it doesn't work, you can buy a new one. Who is really nice and it should be possible in most computer stores. ;)

Regarding your question of vibration and shock protection, I think that a new drive HARD doesn't affect this feature because they don t have such a feature built-in so it makes no difference what HARD drive you buy.

Good luck!

  • Portege M400 - new HARD drive retains the old HARD drive password?

I have a Portege M400 and I want to move my current hard drive with a new one.
My current hard drive is password protected (I know the password).
    My questions are:

If I switch to a new hard drive, a new retains the old password or not?

Can I use the old drive with an external enclosure as an external drive, or it is impossible?

I already tried to delete the password for hard drive with the methods presented on this forum by going into the BIOS, but version 3.8 has no option to remove the HDD password and I think that it is impossible to remove it.

Please answer only if you have experience in cases like this, I don't want to spend money on the new hard drive and not be able to use as primary.

    Hey Buddy

    Please check this thread:
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?MessageID=141590

You can remove the HDD password (if it s you known) in the BIOS.
In the field "User password" tab and just enter the old password. If you do want to set the new password, and then press "Enter".

    Hello

Eventually the partitions that appear on the HARD disk is corrupted.
I couldn't install the OS on my laptop because the partitions have been confues up, I don t know why, but I couldn't format the HARD drive using the recovery disk.

Finally, I took the Windows XP disc and formatted the whole HARD drive and deleted all partitions on the HARD drive. Then I installed Windows XP by using the Microsoft disk.
After that, I made the recovery disc and installed the operating system using the Toshiba disc.
Then, it was possible to reinstall the OS.

Notes; The M400 seems supported RAID and therefore, you need to install the RAID driver first!

Just telling me to uninstall the hard drive protection.
Please help me and tell me how to disable and remove

    Thank you

    > I am trying to upgrade to windows 7, but I keep coming with remove the Toshiba HDD protection control panel but I can't locate it in the control panel.

You should look in the control panel-> programs and features

Here you will find all the programs that are installed in Windows Vista. To remove an any of them click the program you want to uninstall and then click Uninstall/change, and follow the prompts.

After Toshiba HDD protection has been uninstalled, you can try to keep up with the upgrade to Windows 7.

  • I tried a number of times to upgrade to windows 10. I get c1900101 - 4000D as a mistake. Once, my entire hard drive crashed and I had to reinstall Windows 7.

I tried a number of times to upgrade to windows 10. I get c1900101 - 4000D as a mistake. Once, my entire hard drive crashed and I had to reinstall Windows 7. I am also having a problem installing Adobe Flash player. It is said that API-MS-Win-Core-Registery-l1-1-0.dll is missing but I don't know what it is. Any suggestions?

"Configuration settings" is the final phase and fault codes look like c1900101 x400xx. The most common failure here is 40017, which means we could not start. Since this is the first time start us Windows 10 with all the drivers in place, once again, drivers are usually the cause of the accident. These issues tend to be less transient than the 30018 s, then a second test is less likely to solve the problem. Yet, it never hurts to try.

    Try to upgrade manually:

    Task of pre-required

When you make significant changes to your computer for example updated operating system, you must always back up. See the links to resources on the backup by clicking the link for each version of Windows you are using: Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8/8.1

    then

    then

    • Turn off (preferably uninstall) your Antivirus utility before you perform the upgrade.
    • Reboot several times, and then try again.
    • Disable the general USB peripherals (for example - smart card reader).
    • If you are using a SCSI drive, make sure you have the drivers available for your storage on a thumdrive device and it is connected. During the installation of Windows 10, click on the advanced custom Option and use the command load driver to load the driver for the SCSI drive. If this does not work and the installer still fails, consider switching to an IDE based hard drive.
    • Perform a clean boot, restart, and then try again.
    • If you upgrade to the. ISO file, disconnect from the Internet during the installation, if you are connected in LAN (Ethernet) or wireless, disable both, then try to install.
    • If you are updated through Windows Update, when download reaches 100% disconnect from the LAN (Ethernet) Internet or Wi - Fi, then proceed with the installation.
    • If this does not work, try using the. ISO file to upgrade if possible.
    • If you are connected to a domain, go to a local account.
    • If you have an external equipment, attached to the machine, unplug them (example, game controllers, USB sticks, external hard drive, printers, peripherals not essential).

If the problem persists, try the upgrade manually, but choose the option to keep personal files only, you will have to reinstall applications.

  • HP ProtectSmart hard drive protection

    Hey guys,.

So the story is, I bought a HP Pavilion dv6-6b07tx Entertainment Notebook 2nd hand and quickly got fed up with the slow loading with the 5400 RPM HARD drive time... I upgraded to a 250 GB SSD HARD drive and Windows 8.1 at the same time (super fast loading times now), I now get the error ACPI\HPQ0004 dreaded in the Device Manager. I get that it's the stuff of HP ProtectSmart and found where to find the driver for it, but do I need? What is doing? Can I just leave it like that?

    At soon knightwolf153

That error is for the ACPI/HPQ0004 unknown devicefor spinner traditional hard drives.

HP ProtectSmart hard drive Protection software protects the hard drive of "parking the heads ' if the laptop fell accidentally, or is suddenly hit by another object.

You now have an installed electronic reader so that you can ignore the error message. Your drive has no head to the Park. If the error message really bothers you, then you can install the Hard Drive Protection HP ProtectSmart software.

  • Portege 7010CT - no hard drive recognized

    Hi all

I have a Portege 7010CT, I want to use to drive my modeltrain, because it has a RS-232 connection. The problem is however it doesnot recognize the hard drive more. I bought a new one that works fine in another laptop but when I put it in Portege said with the installation of Windows that no hard drive is detected.

Looking in the Bios, it also says that no hard drive is configured. I can't however in the Bios to change this. East - auto detection? What can I do to make the Portege recognize the hard drive? Thanks for help.

    Greetings Willem

    Hey, Willem.

As far as I know this old notebook used hard drives with IDE interface. Normally, on all hard drives with this interface, you have a rider where you can switch between Master, Slave and Cable Select.

I recommend you to check this. Set the switch to Master and try again.

  • Hard drive failed and I lost my product key?

    Hi guys,.

So my friends hard drive failed and unfortunetly he lost everything.

I replaced the broken hard drive for him and reinstalled Windows 10. However when I went to check if the OS has been activated, it showed as not been activated? I thought the machines after that Windows 8 had their licance saved in the BIOS, so we do not have this problem?

Also there is no sticker on the back or under the battery that contains the product key for Windows.

I also talked to Microsoft, but they were uable to help.

    Any help is appreciated!

    Thank you.

It's a HP Pavilion 15-p264na. It came with Windows preinstalled as an OEM licance Home 8.1. It was then upgraded to Windows 10 at a later date using the free update successfully.

Then the second option mentioned above. Didn't it actually triggered successfully after 10 win upgraded?

If so, you should be able to activate just fine without problems, IF you use the same edition of Windows. You write it housed 8.1 - you now install Win 10 Home? You mentioned 10 Pro down...

So I guess I'll with your third option and using the recovery media?

I have 2 HP drives here for Windows 10 Pro for two different HP devices. I think these are the recovery CD, it says that they cotain the client software, if that is correct? Can I use these discs Pro on a BONE at home? Or that I'd be better by following the links you provided?

Laughing out loud. I'm sorry. I am afraid that you cannot mix just DVD / CD / etc - they are for a specific model for the specific version of Win / edition. You cannot use a recovery media for HP computer to another - it will simply not work 99% of the time. You cannot mix editions of Windows (the House is for Home, Pro goes to Pro).  You want the recovery media for this unit, you need to follow the links.

However, IF you have enabled the upgrade of Windows 10 post fine, you can simply download Win 10 ISO from here:

    > > https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10/

Download the tool, it will download an ISO and burn it to a DVD or write on a USB key. Follow the on-screen instructions, skip entered the key and move on. After installation, Windows 10 HOME should activate fine using digital entitlement if 8.1 Home Win allowed initially.

I would like to know how this goes for you.

  • Upgrade hard drive HP Pavilion Sleekbook 15 to SSD

    Hello

I have a HP Pavilion Sleekbook 15 with the following product information,

Product name: HP Pavillion Sleekbook PC 15

    Product number: C6K58EA

Will it be possible for me to upgrade my hard drive with an SSD? If so, what are the limits of the SSD that I can use?

    Thanks in advance,

    ISURU.

Yes. You can upgrade the hard drive to a mobile (laptop) SSD. The SSD must conform to the following specifications.

Hard disk, without illustration material, Kit (includes hard drive support and support)
screws, cable and 2 bumpers) HP p/n 701945-001

If your laptop is also a present SSD 32 GB mSATA, he can line be used as a disk cache via the software Intel IRST.

The disadvantage is that it is that it will violate the guarantee that the hard drive is not known by HP to be part replaceable enduser. Upgrading a laptop of this type implies a disassembly.

  • Firebird 802 - upgrade hard drives - Solid State / hybrid anyone?

I'm upgrading hard drives on my Firebird 802 (the part the WEAKEST of my Firebird and the SMALLEST score on Windows Index). I replaced the drive secondary with a Seagate 500 GB SATA drive at 7200 RPM (ST950042 4AS) and REALLY improved performance (I have my file on the secondary drive).

It's now time to upgrade the MAIN disk. I'm looking at a "Hybrid" car A Seagate ST95005620AS Momentus XT 500 GB Solid State Hybrid Drive - 500 GB, 7200 RPM, SATA 3 Gb/s.

Has anyone tried upgrading the main drive of a hybrid? For a solid Sate drive?

    Thank you

    Enzo

Well WELL, @ 10:39 PM PST after FOUR and a HALF and TWO attempts of the hybrid drive WORKS as my main drive on my Firebird 802!

Using the data transfer software CMS Bounceback ($14.99 per download) the program was missing several files that were essential for the computer to boot. Once I checked the transfer journal and moved the files myself IT BOOTS!

THUS, in a few weeks, I'll post the kind of increases in speed that I experience. First comment, my drives are running @ 98 degrees F. It's HOT, so I'll have to come back a fan for the hard disk enclosure, in fact, you can put at the front of the box and jump through this background grid. Going to put in place tomorrow. Now I'm BEAT!

Thus, it CAN BE DONE on your Firebird! Solution, HERE!

    Thank you!

If my HARD drive crashes and I have to replace, can I reinstall Windows 7 on the same computer? How the product key is affected? He still believes that I am still on the old HDD?

    Yes.

    Not at all.

    N °

If you have Windows 7 with an OEM license agreement (it came pre-installed on the computer is the most likely scenario for this, but you can buy OEM copies so) or you have a license to retail (upgrade or full version) - the way your question is worded is very specific - you * can * install Windows 7 costs/clean on this same system as much as you wish.  A new hard drive won't stop you activation - well that at some point, you need to activate by phone, as opposed to over the Internet.

Now - if the motherboard is replaced and it's licensed OEM and replacement was not that of the OEM that probably set up your computer...  Then you have a problem.

Unless you happen to have a license of Windows 7 retail sales, so it is not related to the computer (motherboard).

However, the requirements for the media upgrade is that you have an operating system already eligible such as Windows XP or Vista installed to use it. Since the Windows 7 end user license agreement.

15 UPDATES. To use upgrade software, you must first be licensed for the software that is eligible for the upgrade. After the upgrade, this agreement takes the place of the agreement for the software that you upgraded. After upgrade, you can no longer use the software that you upgraded.

  • 6400 upgrade Hard Drive just SHRUNK... Once again!!!

First of all let me state that I am ready to throw my computer and TWO 2, TWO Yes upgrade hard drives out of my 2nd floor window!

OK, my wind is done, for now.

I have an Inspiron 6400 with HDD 80 GB of origin (73.1 GB space.)  I wanted to go to a Western Digital 250 GB hard drive.  I bought the drive and cloned it.  My first attempt was a purchase Norton Ghost program (after the $150 for the reader, that's another $50 for the program) I cloned it from the laptop via a USB - SATA connection.  Everything seemed fine, until I swapped hard drives.  He got through the BIOS, no problem, then started to windows.  Immediately, it projected blue and that was that.  Swap return original hard drive, everything OK.  Put old drive in the spare computer/SATA slot and realized that the reader shrunk to 73.1 GB. . the SAME SIZE as the original drive.

After days/weeks and literally probably 5 to 6 hours of troubleshooting, downloading about 4-5 programs, utilities, etc, and have EVERY single utility, test and program otherwise tell me the car was very good (less the fact that he was now 170 GB smaller) I thought that drive was simply bad then returned.  (After fighting with Tiger Direct, I had to return it directly to WD, but they at least sent me a replacement unit before that I had to return the first...  (where my 'two' drives))

So I have the new, 2nd hard drive in hand and I say to myself that I would be the clone differently, from my desktop (Dell 690) who had a few ports SATA spare on it.  I cloned it with a different program and once again, everything seems to be okay.  It showed in my office.  This time, I've set manually the new disk partitions to what I end up with.)

So I put the new, larger, cloned drive in the computer, booted and BAAM!  Exactly the same thing.  Blue screen stop...  And guess what... The drive is now 73.1 GB. . and once more, there is nothing I can do to bring back to 250 GB... any computer, software, utility, etc. I throw at it or throw it out in...

Back to Western Digital... but this time, I don't know yet what to say or how to proceed.

    My questions are:

    1. What is happening and why I can't get a 250 GB drive in the machine.  (I can't find ANYWHERE a maximum limit of hard drive)

    2. any thoughts on how to get my drive to the correct size of declaration?

I'm really steam it... I have never spent so much time on what should be a simple question in my 15 years and more and about 20 + systems of computers through my hands...

    Thanks in advance

    Blake
